I was at Optimist Hall and stopped here for lunch - I love Mediterranean food so was excited to eat here. Upon walking in the staff just stared at me, which was awkward. It was 30 minutes after opening. The staff who made my bowl was friendlier. The bowl was ok, the falafel was dry but the dressing was good. It is very expensive for what you get and the lacking customer service. Came into Mezeh at Camp North End on Saturday 12/27 just before 8pm and apparently committed the crime of...ordering food. The three girls working the counter were unfriendly, walked away while I was asking questions, and made it very clear I was inconveniencing them by existing. What was not fine: one of them loudly yelling "HIJO DE LA GRAN PUTA!" behind the counter..loud enough for me to hear. And yes, I speak Spanish, so no translation needed. This was my first time ever at any Mezeh, but needless to say my first time was wildly unprofessional and uncomfortable. The food was ok, but frankly there's plenty of bowl spots in Charlotte that I can order from with friendlier service. Can't say I'll ever be back. read more

Mediterranean food inside Optimist Hall, let's try it! After walking around trying to see what I would like to eat, Optimist Hall has pretty much every type of food and desserts you would want, I found myself coming back to Mezeh. I love Mediterranean food and this is my first time in Optimist Hall. For starters, I loved that it was a bit away from the crowded areas and not a big line. The place looked very clean and it has a big open space inside. The service was great and the staff was very helpful. I asked if the chicken was spicy. They have two options, one is spicy which apparently is the favorite. One is not. I asked to try the non spicy chicken and they gave me a lid with a small piece of chicken. I went for the non spicy one. She did mention the spicy is very spicy, so unless you like hot, stay away or ask for a sample. I did try a bit of everything so it was a bit pricey but the food was delicious. Totally recommend, just know the more add ons you get, the more you pay. read more

Here's the thing, I like Mezeh in theory, but not as much in practice. I had a BYO salad and some of the toppings didn't seem fresh. I also had a tough piece of skin mixed in with my pickled beets. It has potential if they were more consistent. read more

I ordered through Door Dash - had I been in house I would have asked for a refund. The bulgar pilaf was not prepared with enough liquid, making it very crunchy (still raw). You go up to a counter, pick an item and move along down the line, kind of cafeteria/Chipotle style, The final product I ordered had chicken in it that was unrecognizable. We are visiting from out of town and ordered delivery to our hotel. Two veggie bowls with falafel as well as an extra side of falafel and pita. Of all of the falafel only two were edible the rest appeared to have been sitting around all day in oil and were hard. The pita was cold and hard as well. Don't waste your money. read more

We ordered catering for a large team lunch earlier today and everything was so delicious! We had ordered last year and because the food was such a hit we repeated. Great place for lunch or supper. The "bowls" are delicious. The counter staff was very helpful in helping me choose which ingredients. The portions were huge and they use eco friendly products. Decent seating and great lighting however I think they were short staffed as the tables were dirty and the high chairs were kind of nasty. That would NOT by any means stop me from coming back. I placed an online order for pickup while we were hanging out at Optimist Hall. It had a ready order time, and I went in at the ready order time. Unfortunately they had not even started my order - which I get if you are slammed, but there was only one other patron in their food hall. Luckily they grabbed my ticket and started my order right away - they did apologize for the wait. We got the spicy meat Mediterranean Pizza which has spicy feta, mozzarella & feta, steak shawarma, lamb kefta, roasted corn, pickled onions, tzatziki drizzle, olive oil. This was amazing, I'd definitely get this again. Side note - it was clear the staff member making my pizza had not done one before as she was asking for help along the way - glad she wanted it done right. Unfortunately she only cut it once - it's a long flatbread type pizza, so there were two massive ends with the way it was cut. It is supposed to be cut into smaller slices. I didn't notice this until I had gone to the patio seating, and had to go back in for utensils to cut it in order to eat it. So this is just a note to check to make sure it's cut properly before you leave or make sure to get utensils. Definitely recommend as one of the spots in Optimist Hall, just need to perfect service a little bit to get to 5 stars. read more

Let me start by saying that despite what you're about to read, the food at Mezeh is fine. If there weren't a Mediterranean bowl/salad place at Optimist Hall, it would feel like something's missing. Both times I've been there, it's because I've walked by other restaurants that I really like, but which just weren't what I wanted at the time. And you get to Mezeh and think, this looks good, and there's no line! Bingo! Their location in the back corner -- away from a lot of foot traffic -- explains part of that, but I have to believe other people have been disappointed as well. This time I got the Mezeh Greek salad. Problem 1: The chicken wasn't just "spicy," it was on fire. (I assume it was the chicken, but maybe some of the other ingredients had been soaking in hot sauce all day.) I'm sitting here now with the bottom of my bowl still covered in chicken. This is doubly bad because... Problem 2 (and this is the main one): The salad is just too small. They use the same brown pressed cardboard bowls that you can find all over the city. But you could lay a piece of paper over the top and then easily put it back in the printer - pristine. Definitely a difference from the appetizingly full bowls pictured in their menu. I half suspect management has told them to skimp on ingredients as a way of cutting costs amid disappointing revenues. This is the second time I've been to Mezeh, and I'm afraid it's "Two strikes and you're out." YMMV, but there's just too much competition at Optimist for me to give them another try, and if I want this kind of food... well, there are several other chains around town that have never disappointed me. read more

The drink machine is all high-calorie garbage except for 1 spout of fake diet coke (also garbage IMO), so I ended up paying $3 for water out of the soda machine. I'm only giving this location three stars because the food is excellent. I live just around the corner, and I've been here twice, and the staff were so awful to deal with. They give off the vibe that they hate being there. So depressing! I would rather drive to the Sardis Road location than return to the Optimust Hall location. Both times I've been there, Mezeh has been empty, while Optimus Hall is packed to the rafters. That tells you all you need to know right there. I made it a point to be kind to the staff while they were preparing my bowl, but it was so uncomfortable that my friend, who joined me, decided to eat elsewhere at another vendor in Optimus Hall. We ate out in the hall and spent our money on drinks at another vendor. Again, I want to say the food is excellent at both places, but I could literally walk to Optimus Hall from my house, and I will never spend any more money in that location, when the staff is just so unpleasant to be around, it was so depressing. I will start with the most important thing I encountered at this place: the server behind the counter needs a lot of training, literally has no idea what she is doing, looks like she does not want to work there for sure. She answered many of my questions wrong, and only after I pressed her to do so. Just like the other reviews on Yelp, employees there are going to run this restaurant to the ground. I asked her if they have garlic sauce and she said this: "we don't have anything garlic" by the time I got the sauce side, I saw garlic sauce, and when I mentioned it to her, she acted like nothing happened :) the reason I put 4 stars is that I understand there is a labor shortage and the food is surprisingly good! Just opened inside Optimist hall! Concept is chipotle / yafo / cava style where you go down the line and tell them what you want in your bowl. The food was great! Quality food for a quality price. I got the chicken skewers and it was $12 with as much food as you can fit inside the bowl. There are also good options for food such as eggplant and a bunch of different hummuses. The sauces were also standard but warning that the shug sauce, while very bold and flavorful, is very spicy.
