This place is amazing. After a funeral we hastily put together a plan to eat as one large group of 15. We called and asked about being able to fit that many people in a short amount of time. They said just worry about getting here. Boom you walk in, and this is the place Olive garden is trying to mimic and failing. Beautiful soft Italian music playing, you can smell the gravy in the air. They sit us in a large room for our party and give us a few minute to order drinks, apps, and meals. The server did not get one thing wrong. Not that I would have complained with all those people. When the meals came out, perfectly cooked haddock. Drinks were always full and cold. We had a great time. I can not recommend this place highly enough. read more

Some friends and I ended up here for lunch due to a number of unforeseen circumstances. I live locally and know this restaurant from a very long time ago (before the fire, taking over by another family member/chef). I was unfortunately outvoted on restaurant selection. Not surprised that the "hostess" was too busy talking on the phone to seat us. She, annoyingly, did the "just a minute waving finger" to us because apparently talking to husband/boyfriend was more important (only know this because she said "honey" a lot). However, we went. Best I can say is that the bread is edible if you put enough butter on it and pick off the stale parts. A lot of these reviews mention portion size and, yes, ours were all huge. No matter what you order, it arrives piping hot (as in microwaved) and looks like a plate of slop with tomato sauce. Lasagna, chicken parm and linguine were all indistinguishable in form, tasting exactly the same (canned tomato sauce....metallic and slightly bitter). I am guessing most people don't mind the high prices because they can take most of it home. Personally, I couldn't even eat a small part, let alone try to eat it a second or third time. I am unable to agree with reviews that say it's authentic because it is not. Theres still a good bar crowd that will undoubtedly still be there into the evening. This was a great little find! Kaylyn was our waitress and she was very kind and informative. The food was excellent! The calamari was very lightly breaded with a delicious marinara sauce. The clam chowder was awesome! The blackened salmon I got with the salad as I'd eaten so much already so I have an excellent second meal. I have been going to the Mezza Luna since I was a little girl. A long standing establishment - the ML remains consistent in their quality, service and FOOD! We just held our fall wedding their last weekend and it could not have been more perfect. For every special occasion, my family down in Wareham visits Mezza Luna to celebrate. Over the weekend it was my sister's 27th birthday, so we all took her for dinner. We started dinner with the the stuffed mushrooms (delicious!!) and fried eggplant sticks w/ marinara sauce. I wish there were more than 4 stuffed mushrooms, as I would have rather those over the eggplant sticks (i'm not a big fan of fried food). For dinner I had the stuffed haddock (first time trying haddock!) which had minced crab and (mouth watering) bread crumbs. The fish was very light, melted in my mouth. I am so glad I had a great experience with haddock for the first time, since a bad experience with fish can throw me off for future encounters. The ONLY complaint I have is the lighting in the restaurant. There is a candle in the middle of the table, but it doesn't do the poor lighting justice. read more

She 1) forgot my sons food (claimed I didn't order it but my husband confirmed i Indeed did-) and wouldn't it be weird that I didn't order my son food? Like wouldn't you ask and double check "anything for your son?" She did bring it out fast. But then,... 2) left us sitting there for like 15 mins after we were done eating. I had to go find her to ask for the check. The place was empty. She was standing at the bar talking ? After the prices you pay here, I don't deserve to hunt down my check at all. Food great. I didn't know what to expect. This restaurant advertises that it's been open since 1937 (!!!). It's definitely old-school Italian, and the food was excellent. My party of six each ordered various "basic" dishes (because in an old-school Italian restaurant, you get things like veal parm and veggie lasagna). Each of us really enjoyed our dishes. The sauce was flavorful, not salty. The portions were enormous, and we'll have plenty left for tomorrow. We also shared the calamari appetizer, and it was very good -- not oily or greasy as that can sometimes be. The dining room was loud, but spacious. You definitely need a reservation for a Saturday night. However, the staff was wonderful. Service was quick and our waitress was very friendly. The best part, though? The owner's wife -- who appeared to be in her late 80s, perhaps -- was visiting with each table. She came and spent several minutes chatting with us, and she was lovely. She was all dressed up and was just delightful. It was such a quaint, old fashioned thing to do -- to have a hostess charming the guests -- and it really made our night. While on a four day fishing trip to the canal, I had dinner at Mezza Luna... I called for reservation and was told to just go over... The entrance foyer was full of cultural artifacts done in good taste. The hosts were very elegant and engaged in conversation immediately. Seating was my choice and they accommodated me (I like a bright spot with a view). The menus was similar to a diner menu; we have anything you can think of. I was feeling Italian, especially with Sinatra playing in the background... so I chose chicken parmigiana. As soon as I sat down, they served a basket of fresh bread and the table had olive oil on it already, next to fresh cut flowers. My wife should've been here; she would appreciate that. The dinner was fantastic, very tender and full of taste( the sauce was a little on the sweet side). The next day, I went back for more; I ordered the Wednesday special, a prime rib. And it was a disappointment... the meat was chewy, and it felt like a cheap cut of beef. I think Mezza Luna should stick with Italian dishes and leave steak to Long Horn. Have been here before and food and service are consistently great. Tonight had chicken Marsala and baked stuffed haddock. Both were very good-served hot, good flavor, large portions. I have been craving this place every second since I first ate there over the weekend. I got the most amazing and perfect Chicken Cattiatore I've ever had anywhere. My guest got the Aglio e Olio (linguini with garlic and oil) and it was plain fantastic. I also got the only Reisling they had and it was taaasty. They have an outdoor deck for the summer, which is where we ate and it was nice. The place looks fancy and the waitstaff is pretty fancy, but they didn't seem to care that we were wearing jeans or anything, it seems pretty casual. Maybe it's more formal in the evening. Also, there was no wait. It's a pretty big place. Prices were a little high (about $18 for a good plate), but don't confuse that with being "overpriced" because the food was fantastic and worth it. Plus, plates come with bread and salad (and pasta if you get chicken or veal). The italian dressing was a perfect oil & vinegar mix, loved it. It's a nice family restaurant. The food is good. Had the Alfredo which was good but there's room for improvement to match their prices. Since we arrived before they closed the kitchen, I suspect their staff were more eager to go home than eager to ensure customer satisfaction. We did not feel rushed as plenty of diners were encouraged to enjoy their meal slowly. Overall I certainly would recommend this place over a franchise Italian restaurant but I can't see myself giving this place anything more than 4 stars even if everything was excellent. Beautiful, clean restaurant. Very soft music plays in the background and the soft lighting makes for a very relaxing experience. The service is friendly but slow. Probably on keeping with the easy, laid back atmosphere. The bread came out fresh and warm and there is Olive Oil on the table if you don't want butter. I got the Chicken Parm. The chicken was nice and thin and breaded just enough to give a nice crunch when you bite into it. There was just enough cheese on top so that it wasn't overly gooey. The spaghetti was perfectly cooked and the marinara sauce was light without being watery. The portion was great for lunch. As our usual favorite place to eat, East winds seafood was closed for the day we opted to try a new place. The prices don't justify the quality and quantity of food. Eating at 4 pm it was loud from the lounge which was open to the dining area. The hostess was snooty and miserable. The waiter was pleasant. Don't think we'll be coming here again. We both ordered the baked STUFFED haddock. I guess they forgot the stuffing. I inquired to make sure that I order stuffed haddock and not the regular baked haddock. Waiter advised us that they chop it up real fine and put it on top ‍. Could not taste any seafood stuffing and the haddock also lacked flavor. The butternut squash was like they used a whole cup of brown sugar just in this small portion. The mashed potatoes were flavorless, like a baked potato mashed. Based on my before and after pictures it is obvious that I did not enjoy it. EXPENSIVE $29 for one person with small portions. We definitely will not be returning. I took all night to think about how I wanted to write thus review. I pride myself in knowing food, wine, service standards etc.,etc.. I grew up in the good and service industry. Trained by people who b me add it their very mission, to be outstanding. I take my time with this because, I really like this restaurant. From the t I'm e you walk in, the appearance and atmosphere, are exactly what you would like and what you should expect, of a good Italian eatery. My wife's excitement , was palpable. She has been before, and said, it's soooo good! Everything was great, from, prompt service, clean, capable and proficient. Jake was very personable, didn't overbear the atmosphere, and was charming and humorous. The wine selection was sparse and, predictable, but basis were covered. The general idea is there, but a bit outdated. The salad was, good, not quite the caliber I was expecting, for a price point such as it, is. But hey it's lettuce and vegetables, right. The bread, oh......! The bread was great, warm and just the right amount of crisp in the outside, soft but not chewy on the inside. Real Italian bread, my grandfather, even shouted from heaven, the house Italian, was almost, as good as Popo's. ( sorry have to stick with "Mi familia"). The sadness sunk in at the arrival of the entrees. They were bland, unseasoned and just an epic let down. Though I was sufficiently fed by now, because that breads awesome and I ate my whole salad. I was really looking forward to an incredible cacciatore gravy. My veal and pork was also over cooked in the cacciatore, the mushrooms almost bounced out of my teeth and though there were some bell peppers that hit the texture and taste mark, most were not ready yet. My wife ordered the chicken parm, and, same thing!? Bland and lacking any care or passion. The sauce was, like strait canned tomato paste or maybe sauce. There was an obvious absence of garlic to boot and no herbs whatsoever. Though I'm no longer a professional in the industry, i was formerly trained in Italian cuisine, and well my middle name is Basilio. I for one, think that Mezza Luna, has lost its way, their flare for real Italian food, and people who know it and check it daily. Maybe it's 2020 and the challenges we and especially restaurants face during these times. I don't know what it is, or maybe that's just what it's always been? But I would like to think , it's not. There's no way a restaurant has such deep tradition, and longevity, on dishes like we received last night. It should be mentioned, the bar made us great cappuccinos, too. Though, we were pretty disappointed in the main coarse of food and the Mondavi Pinot Noir. We are not deterred. We hope they can overcome this and would love to come back, and check it out again, but we will give it some time. Who knows maybe it was just a bad night, for the chef. read more

Standard Italian food menu with all the staples. Down at the National Cemetary for a service and went for lunch after. They were so accommodating, took reservations last minute. We then changed the numbers twice and they were so gracious. I had linguini with clams, white. It was very good. 3 people had chicken parm and everyone liked it. My husband had the baked haddock and said it was excellent and another friend had linguini with clams red, which he enjoyed. Our waitress was excellent and very friendly. If we didn't live so far from there we'd visit often. We'll def go back once we are down the cape again. read more

From the stuffed meatball to clams casino to famous chicken parm to the most authentic antipastos around. First the good : nice atmosphere , friendly service , complimentary thick cut Italian bread and butter Big servings .. the Calamari app was large rings very light , tasty and tender .Now the bad : in my opinion EXTREMELY overpriced fettuccini Alfredo with small shrimp and small scallops $50 REALLY. Don't look at the link for the menu on yelp it is old moderate prices now most entrees with a protein are $30 and up . The clams casino are actually just topped with bland stuffing which seems to be the exact same stuffing on the stuffed mushrooms . Cheated my friend out of a funeral meal. We expected coffee and dessert. We were honoring her husband after he died of cancer and the wait staff cheated them out of coffee and dessert. She gave her card and paid for it and had to leave to get her husbands ashes and the friends and family were not given the full meal that was promised. I would not recommend this place and I found the owner quite creepy when we brought this problem up to him over the phone he said " meet me at the bar I'm a social person" This is unprofessional and did not offer anything to make up for this large mistake. read more

Went to dinner with friends visiting from Florida tonight at Mezza Luna, called for reservations for 7 people, was told we would have two tables, but it was not clear it was going to be six feet apart over the phone. But ok, COVID rules.. but wait, minutes after we are seated at two tables, six feet apart, another party arrives and is seated right next to our TWO TABLES, but wait , all seven people in that party are seated together, at the same table! So after dinner I speak to manager to express our disappointment over not being seated together, that it was a special night for us, he claims the other table was allowed to sit together as it was an urgent situation, the reservation was for 6 people but a 7th guest arrived unexpectedly and he had no where else to seat them! LIES! Another table was empty, near the table they sat at, the whole time our party was having dinner. Very disappointed in the way the manager handle the whole situation! I won't return due to the poor customer service we received. Manager did nothing to try to make us feel better, not even an apology! read more

I'm giving the place 4 stars because my companions enjoyed their meal, as did I. My salad was good. I was very disappointed in the lack of vegetarian choices. All their tomato based sauces had meat or anchovies in it. Even the marinara sauce! Really!? Very disappointing. Because of this I probably won't go back. Tried Mezza Luna for an anniversary dinner. At the outset the staff was exceptionally frazzled turning over from a day wedding to Saturday dinner. As a former server my advice in the future is grin, bear it, and stop complaining to the customers about it because we started on a decidedly low note. After they chilled out we had a nice time. The homemade bread was a highlight as was an arancini app special; if you get the house dressing with your salad find a way to mix it unless you just want oil on your salad, all the spices consolidated on the bottom of the small carafe. The chicken Marsala was adequate; I make it better at home so I will try something different next time. Husband liked the veal Capone but wasn't overwhelmed. Finished off with amazing tiramisu. We will definitely return and try some different items on the menu. read more

I love this restaurant! Easily one of the best restaurants in the area. Mezzaluna is open year round. I am fortunate to live nearby six months of the year. Eggplant Parmesan, Shrimp Scampi and Veal Piccata are among my favorites. The menu has lots of options including excellent seafood. All yummy. Staff is awesome and the restaurant is squeaky clean.
