The bar tender came to us exactly once with out us having to hound him. Sat down for 15 min before first order. Whenever we needed more drinks or sushi we had to ask him to wait on us. Am I am not saying we had to just nod and say "yo". It always had to be an "ummmm excuse me could we get some more drinks or food?" And the attitude we got back was immense. The restaurant itself is a bit quieter than the surrounding area, with a pretty upscale atmosphere. The food was on the pricier end, but everything was pretty good, and we left feeling satiated! We ordered 3 rolls--spicy rainbow, kamikaze, and the sapphire. The spicy rainbow was the group's favorite. We also had 2 yakitoris--pork belly and baby octopus. The octopus was delicious! MF Bar is one of best sushi restaurants I've been to in Atlanta. Although it may be a bit on the expensive side, the quality of sushi makes it well worth it. I tried their eel roll, sapphire roll, and negi salmon roll. These rolls were only about $16 each; every one was unique and each bite was a great combination of ingredients and burst of flavor. I also managed to try five of their nigiri. Every one was delicious, but if I were to rank the five, it would be Wagyu, Eel, Hamachi, Chutoro, Sake. One thing I missed out on that I will definitely try the next time I return is the Otoro. MF Bar is great for a date night; be sure to make a reservation in advance because the wait can get long. The nigiri can get pricey, so I recommend getting some rolls (still fresh and melts in your mouth) to fill up on, then ball out on some of the fancier nigiris (the Wagyu is $30 for 2 pieces). read more

The chutoro special nigiri roll is some of the best sushi I've ever had! The rich, fatty tuna with the truffle mouse was sooo good that I ordered another of it, wallet be damned. This is my second time here. The ambiance is nice and gives you fine dining but a chill vibe and you can actually eat and drink and have a conversation without a lot of noise. I shared the truffle aioli fresh salmon as an appetizer which you mostly tasted the truffle oil. I also had the avocado balls, which had spicy tuna and spicy salmon and caviar. It was one bite but lacked flavor and not worth the price and should have been bigger balls or less price for the amount. For my entree at the waiter suggestion I had the Sapphire Roll and my friend had the Spicy Tuna Crispy Box. I also had a cocktail called White Kimono. Overall I liked the restaurant but I think for the price the rolls could be bigger as I have had bigger at other places. I didn't leave full and satisfied because it was light and not as tasty but it was fresh. The food is subpar at best and people who frequent the place do so because of convenience yet the restaurant acts as if they are a NYC establishment who books 6 months in advance. What a joke. I am part of a supper club where three couple frequent different restaurants around the greater Atlanta area. Tonight, we selected MF. What a mistake! When we arrived, we were told that there weren't any available tables to accommodate 7 at that time (one couple brought their daughter). No problem, we thought. We would simply find another place nearby. However, MF said we could be added to a wait list if we agreed to provide a deposit of $85 per person (WTF)!!! We agreed only because we were sure the restaurant could accommodate us and because two of the couples had never eaten there before. When we were seated the restaurant was nearly empty and had we waited we could have saved the $85 per person deposit. But, there's a catch. It wasn't a deposit, when we finished our meal, we were told that we had spent far less than the $85 per person. Oh, and the kitchen was closed and last call had been given. What a scam! Do yourself a favor and avoid MF at the Avalon like the plague. Horrible!!! read more

Do not dine here!! Terrible and discriminatory customer service. We walked in and the restaurant was COMPLETELY EMPTY with the exception of one booth with a father and son. The hostess was immediately hostile, looked us up and down and proceeded to tell us the only available seating was outside. Best decision ever, we ended up visiting a local small business with great sushi and perfect customer service from the most endearing couple. Half of our experience was a solid 3-star and half was a solid 5-star. Environment: It was pretty empty when we went for an early weekday dinner, but I love the layout of a circular bar and tables/booths around. It feels spacious and modern inside. Menu/Service: It's overwhelming how many choices and sections there are! The waitress was very friendly and pretty good at separating them out, and also at making suggestions based on if you're looking for raw/cooked and so forth. Food: The sushi direction is a good way to go here. It's pricey, so I can't speak for it being the best value, but we got the Crunchy Roll off happy hour which felt like an appropriate price for what we tasted. I mean one piece of this just overtakes your mouth and the entire chewing experience is... well... an experience. It's just one lovely flavor all at once with a simple texture that I honestly didn't know was possible from rice. The happy hour salmon was the definition of raw fish just melting in your mouth, though I will note melt-in-my-mouth fish isn't my preference. Drinks: Not great. The MF Lychee drink comes in a martini glass and is one of few cocktail choices. The actual lychee fruit that gets infused in the drink is great! But the drink itself simply tastes like vodka and a little bit of lychee, and you can't even taste the cranberry that's supposedly part of the drink. The Sasara is a muddled berries meets champagne, but almost leaves you wishing for the same drink using a different alcohol. So decided to finally check this place out. We arrived on a Friday night and it was pretty busy as most all Avalon restaurants are. I have been to MF sushi multiple times but back when it was in Midtown years ago. I like how the bar is in the center of the restaurant. Lots of tables kind of close together because it's not a big restaurant. I decided on a glass of wine, and appetizer, and a sushi roll. The appetizer I chose was called avocado balls. It was the best thing of the night but it was so tiny. Literally it came with two balls and I could have easily fit both balls in my mouth at the same time. They were that small. My sushi roll I chose was just a normal roll, nothing fancy. The fish tasted decently fresh but did not stand out whatsoever. My biggest gripe is the prices for what you get ratio. I was just not impressed at all to be paying such high prices for such little food that was not even that great. So I was in town and my friends decided to take me out to eat and stroll around The Avalon an open mall. We went in to MF Bar since we were hungry and to try out the sushi bar. I was kinda disappointed that they didn't have no fried rice on the menu or dumplings as an appetizer. So I just went with the Edmamae as an appetizer do that my friends can taste it since they never have eaten this. I liked that it was coated with Himalayan salt. The restaurant is a bit dark, with vaulted ceilings and a bar in the middle. the bar is big and all of the tables are on the sides up against the wall, including booths and regular tables. you do not typically need a reservation here. Some of my favorites include the avocado balls appetizer. These are unique and taste so good. I wish you got more then two small balls though. My server was polite but the service we received was very slow. They had 3 servers on the floor with about 5 tables so I was expecting service to be a little faster. We ordered some toro, otoro, unagi, California rolls, salmon carpaccio, takoyaki, Hollywood and A5 wagyu beef roll. Very disappointing. I had made a reservation 5 days earlier and noted I'd like a private table/booth and was celebrating my wife's 40th birthday. They sent a text to confirm I was coming and again I reminded about the birthday and seat request. We arrived on time and I was greeted by a young lady who asked if we had a reservation and kept telling me how really booked they were and that they didn't have any tables ready. We noticed several tables that had reserved signs on them but they weren't available. I asked about how to reserve a specific table and she mentioned you had to specify that when you made your reservation. Hmm We said we would wait for a booth and to please call us when it was ready. We walked across the street to have a drink. The hostess called back in about 10 min and said the next table was ready. We returned and she tried to seat us at a tiny table right near the kitchen. There were now 3 tables open with reserved signs and 2 bar seats. When we asked about the booths she mentioned oh, those people had called and requested. I then confirmed again that I had in fact made a reservation with notes and that I was at the correct restaurant. My wife didn't feel comfortable sitting so close to other customers and told the hostess we prefer to sit at that bar. My wife asked about social distancing and the hostess said, " oh, we don't do that here'". Ok no worries. We took a seat at the bar. The placemats at the bar still had crumbs on them and there was condensation marks from the previous customers beverages. I asked if the area had been cleaned as I flicked a few crumbs away and she reassured me that it had. We were then handed menus and a prix fixe special menu that had greasy fingerprints all over it. COVID or not there is a certain ick factor to dirty menus when your about to indulge in raw finger food essentially. As we settled in and began to review the menu we were greeted by the bar tenders, both who were very attentive and professional. Pretty extensive saki menu with a little bit of every style to try. We were offered a tasting of one and settled on our selection. We ordered several apps a few rolls and some sashimi items. Here's where the disappointment begins. The sushi rice was over cooked and mushy. My wife ordered the King salmon sashimi and it was soft, mushy and you could barley pick it up with chop sticks without it falling apart. The slices were uneven and very small. The bartenders took it away and replaced it with some saketoro which was much better. I will say the soup was very delicious and authentic. We tried a few yakitori items that came to the table luke warm and frankly not good; the chicken was dried out and tough, the scallops were frozen and pumped with sodium tripolyphosphate + they arrived cold and did not have any sea salt on them as the menu suggested. Our server removed these from the table and told us she put in another order and that they would not be on our bill. The last item to come to the table was some negibeef yakitori. These were very tough, chewy and the beef was not cleaned properly it still had silverskin on the edges. One other note, the gari and wasabi were excellent. Overall the restaurant was loud and priggish without the food to back it up. My expectations from reading the website and talking to friends who had eaten at their other location was that we were going to have an exceptional experience similar to the many quaint restaurants I've experienced in Japan. This place was more like any $1 sushi joint and we left hungry and with $200 less in my pocket.
