Disappointing visit after COVID re-opening. MF has been our weekly spot to enjoy great sushi and delicious cocktails. I was disappointed to see they have made minor changes to improve their cleanliness and restore customer confidence as they re-open and start welcoming guests. Menus are not cleaned after each guest, no hand soap in the restrooms, same soy sauce containers guests after guests, improperly wearing a mask and poor sanitation throughout. Hope they reconsider and create a safer and inviting experience because I consider them a unique spot in Avalon. read more

My experience here was top notch mostly due to the staff. My waitress was very knowledgeable and I asked her for several suggestions and she was savvy enough to ask a few questions about what I was looking forward before making her recommendations. The Kampachi appetizer was flat out the best sushi dish I have ever had. The citrus and fresh clean taste was so good combined with the fish! Don't balk at the $20 price, just get it! She recommended a nigiri combination of Chuturo (Fatty Tuna with truffle mouse & caviar and a special Kasugodai (snapper) both superb for different reasons. My main course was the fillet and while this tasted great it seemed a little small in proportion size. I also ordered a spicy tuna roll which added some kick and i recommend it to anyone looking for a good roll with a bit of spice. Finally she brought me her favorite Nigiri of salmon with truffle mouse, pepper and caviar along with yellow tale slightly charred with pepper and a lemon twist. Superb! read more

Great place for sushi for date night! We were seeing a late movie on a Saturday night so after walking by this place, we decided to stop and try it to kill some time. Service was great! We asked for extra ginger and our server brought out a huge bowl of it! :) Food we ordered: Squid salad, O-toro nigiri, Kampachi nigiri, Hamachi nigiri, and 2 rolls ( I can't remember the names but it was so good ( I remembered to take a pic at least :) ) Glad the Avalon has a decent sushi place :) read more

My guy and I went here on Sunday night and it was good. We ordered the spicy rainbow roll, yellowtail roll and a few cocktails. We came in close to closing but the wait staff was still very kind and engaged during our entire dining experience. The location is perfect as it's away from the "large crowds" The Avalon can bring. Before dining here, make sure you go ahead and make a reservation especially if you're planning a dinner date on a weekend! The ambiance and aesthetic of the restaurant is very pleasing. There's a range of different seatings -- booths, tables, and high chairs circling around the bar that sit right in the center of the high ceiling room. To be honest, I don't think you can really go wrong with anything on their menu. The fish is very fresh and from the sip I have, their drinks are good as well. I tried a vodka and lychee drink that was tangy and not overwhelmingly sweet.. I'm not sure if they always have this, but during the second time I visited, there was a 3 course option for $45. I have been coming here twice a week for a long time. Always felt comfortable sitting at the bar with my wife UNTIL tonight. The bar was mostly empty, but too drunk guys came in to find there wallet they left earlier. They asked in slurred words if they could get a beer. They began swearing, eff this eff that and eff everything - and one seat over from my Wife - stuck a camera in her face and asking if we felt above them to live "here" and we don't. They were the absolutely rudest and crudest. Asking if living around here gave us privilege??? and management refused to call security After repeated calls to call them by us. We had to move to a booth to get our already ordered food. Management was totally ineffective against the drunk guys. Please do yourself a favor and try their original salmon sashimi, it is not on the menu for whatever reason but it might've been in my opinion better than the wagyu beef nigiri I tried. Salmon sashimi - 5/5 Wagyu beef nigiri - 4/5 for the price, not sure if it's worth it. Got 2 pieces for $24. Probably would not do again. Kamikaze roll - 4.5/5 only because it was on the spicier side. Their fish is definitely spicier than normal and even the waitress mentioned this! Snow crab California maki - 3/5, would skip. Thought the snow crab was imitation crab at first. The special rolls/nigiri/sashimi is definitely worth trying instead. Service was great and the bar has a large area for you to spread all your plates around. Really I'd give this one 3.5 of 5, but rounding up to 4 as it's brand new - just 5 weeks old! Based on the handful of reviews MF Bar has received so far, I knew heading into my lunch it would be hit-or-miss. (Some of these reviews though... y'all. Look at the menu before you sit down and pitch a fit that the only thing your kid can eat is a $30 steak. Jeez.) Anyway, the restaurant itself is definitely still in that soft opening stage. It's only been a few weeks since the first service so I imagine it's been slow and steady progress since then... We made an OpenTable reservation but definitely did not need one. Not only did we get to pick our own table upon entering the place, but it was mostly empty during the whole lunch "rush." Oh well. The decor is modern and comfortable. The restaurant isn't large but is wide-open with sky-high ceilings and sparse furnishings that actually make it seem larger, somehow. There is a really attractive horseshoe-shaped bar in the center of the room that is just crying for a good happy hour crowd. No outdoor dining spaces (at least for now). They were playing fun, realaxing music - Frank Sinatra I think. The menu is extensive and the sole waiter updated us on what was freshest, kitchen-recommended, etc. They're obviously still having some issues (more timing-related than service-based). While our server was very knowledgeable, most of the dishes took quite a bit of time to come out of the kitchen. Our lunch took about an hour and a half, maybe 1:45. One star off for this. Service was great; when you dine at a specialty restaurant of any kind, some menu guidance will ensure that you have the best meal possible. Speaking of the menu, beware, frugal diners! The prices here are not for the faint of heart! I use to like this place but my last visit was the last straw. Made reservations and was not seated until 40 minutes after reservation time with tables clearly open and available. Server took 30 minutes to come by our table but 3 minutes for the family seated beside us that just walked in. Half of our food came. Incredible sushi experience! Started with a signature MF Lychee martini, followed by spicy tuna tartar and the avocado roll. The avocado roll is a perfect bite and flavor explosion. Then we had the Avalon Roll and the Hollywood Roll, both of which were delicious but the Avalon Roll really shined. Then our server suggested some sashimi, and really continued the dining adventure with chef selected bites. I just feel bad for my significant other b/c he eats way more than I do and usually 3 rolls suffice for us. But not this place, I'd say 2 additional rolls and $30 more out of our pockets and then we'd be full and happy. First time here and it didn't disappoint! Our service was top-notch, and everything we ordered was amazing. We had the o-toro nigiri (wow) and the spicy yellowtail appetizer. Both were sooo good. O-toro was a bit pricy, but worth every penny. Do not put soy sauce on it- it's delicious just how it comes. Also had the spicy rainbow roll, fireball roll, and spicy yellowtail roll. All were SO good!! Fireball was super spicy, FYI. The wine and cocktail menu is also great. We had buffalo trace whiskey and a glass of Sancerre. The ambiance was also really nice. However on this particular occasion, I noticed there were several tables that needed cleaning and there was only one waiter servicing the entire restaurant, in addition to bussing the tables. I don't even think we ordered off the menu, but our server would bring out two different plates of sushi at one time with enough pieces for everyone at the table to have a piece of each.
