When traveling or visiting family my number 1 rule is... I want to try new places. Since I visit NC frequently it is a must that a new place is added every visit. So with a recommendation from a family member and confirmation that this restaurant was a new one for me. We ended up here for dinner after we landed. Upon entry I was excited about the family atmosphere and the sight of the made to order table-side guacamole cart. A party of four we were seated and started with drinks, (3 traditional Margaritas and 1 Pina Colada) and a order of the freshly made Guac from the table-side cart. The margaritas taste like orange juice more specifically watered down Tang or Sunny Delight. Very odd and less than traditional flavor, that was not well received. The cart came and the Guac was made. However, we had to season the Guac ourselves because it was bland and lacked any taste. Needless to say we should have managed our expectations from there but we pressed forward. Food was just ok, I ordered shrimp and chicken fajitas and again needed to self-season. The staff was friendly but also a bit aloof. They came by often to check on us but when asked questions or for missing items serval of the wait staff didn't have answers and left to get assistance but returned without answers (it was early evening and not busy). Overall the experience was less than memorable. Just A Note: On the day we visited (a Friday in October) a young boy was making the Guac, this added to the family managed vibe but again we needed to jazz-up the taste ourselves. read more

Service was substandard, the waitress had an attitude and rushed us from ordering until paying and didn't come back to our table to get us more drinks. Cocktails were way over priced at $15-$20. I had one of the lunch specials here and was very pleased with my meal, the service and the atmosphere. The place was busy, and I came AFTER the lunch rush, but tables were cleared quickly. Their menu is large, something for everyone, including the kids. They offer chips and salsa with your meal, and both were very good. I like that they have lunch specials and will return to try some of the other things they offer. I tried the burrito for the first visit and it was very good. The food came out quickly and was hot, which is a plus for me. They staff work well together...I have several people come by and ask if I needed anything. One person took my order, another brought it, etc. I like that, they seem to really take care of the customers and everyone was so polite and friendly. I will return here for sure. read more

Nice find on the area! Immediately upon bring seated we were served chips and salsa. The best part was that we were each served our own little bottle of salsa. It was perfectly zesty and totally hit the spot for our hungry crew. We ordered a variety of things. My sister's family brought me here for dinner (not sure if they realized that Austin, TX (where I flew in from) has just a couple places serving up TexMex & AmericanMex food. The dining outside I was immediately attracted to, though we ate inside. Modelo specials on Mon/Wed--I got lucky there tonight, but my sis and her husband ordered skinny margaritas that they enjoyed. Cute vibe and comfy atmosphere. Service was more than top-notch! I don't know how they got 5 orders out so fast, especially 2 special kids orders, but they set a record and my brother-in law says they keep beating themselves...I'll take his word for it. The kids managed to order something totally off menu (picky eaters) and were pleased. All the food was great--my carnitas were special as they pulled the meat to emmulate pulled pork, but the flavor was all carnitas--and my sis' corn on the cob...well...she couldn't stop raving about it. Sooo good! I've always heard of this restaurant because a lot of my friends love it, but this was my first time going. The atmosphere is pretty lively- the employees were kind, a lot of people were in there eating (when we went), and there are big tv screens around the restaurant. The guacamole is fantastic and as an ACP lover I discovered a dish which is even better- the tiras de pollo. The sauce for that dish (chipotle cream, cheese dip, and cilantro) was fantastic. The chips are fresh and the queso is good, but a little too runny. Other than that, this is definitely my new favorite spot for Mexican food in the area. read more

I picked this place because of the its high rating on Yelp. My wife ordered fish tacos because the server said they could be made gluten free with corn tortillas. The entree arrives in flour tortillas. The server takes it back to the kitchen and a few minutes later a different server brings the same plate back. She generally rolls with the punches when it comes to her allergies so she was content to just eat the rice and beans--the fish was breaded, too. It was too noisy to be heard to protest anyway. My go-to entree for decades has been Chori Pollo. Dry and tough chicken with smallest amount of flavorless chorizo made for a terrible meal. At least the Modelo worked. There are so many good Mexican places to go to that I can't imagine why anyone would choose the noisy inattentive restaurant. read more

This is the second time we've eaten at Mia Cancun. Both times the food was excellent, service was great, and the ambiance was fun. Tonight I had chicken relleno and chicken soup, and my wife had chimichangas. Both were delicious and we ate every bite. The chicken soup was amazing! I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was loaded with shredded chicken and veggies. The soup was really spicy, and I like a lot of spice. I could make a meal out of the soup alone. The chips and salsa are complimentary; family ordered some Cancun fajitas, enchiladas verdes, spicy chicken tacos and Enchiladas Suizas. - the tacos were dry and meat was overdone with no flavor to the Al pastor tacos. the tomatillo salsa was bitter and had bad flavor and didn't contrast it. The side was sopa de elote which had weird taste to it as well, more like Chilli powder odour and taste. - Tried the enchiladas which had no flavor to them, the veggies didn't complement them. The Cancun fajitas were decent pairing them with beer; but again, the chicken was a little dry since it's a combination of shrimp, chorizo and chicken. Fresh guacamole was also made! Items ordered: - jalapeño margarita: this could've been more flavorful. Lacked spice and tequila flavor. The glass was mainly filled with ice which was disappointing - Grilled Chile Relleno: not great but not bad either. The pepper was on the crunchy side and very cheesy for me. I wish there was a bit of spice on it, would've made it tastier in my opinion (I didn't see any hot sauce on the tables either) - Camarones Al Tequila & Chipotle: my friend ordered this and she was disappointed. All she tasted was tequila, which overpowered the flavor of the dish. Unfortunately she's been here before and was disappointed with the delivery of this dish. This place was amazing! If you check in yelp you get free queso, which is huge and delicious. They keep the chips and salsa coming, too! We ordered a watermelon margarita to share, which was a very reasonable price and was served inside a whole half a watermelon! It also seemed bottomless! My husband and I weren't sure how they could make any money off this drink, but it was beautiful and amazing. We ordered two entree to split, both things that seemed unique to this restaurant. We ordered the camarones de diablo, which were large shrimp cooked in a very spicy and delicious red sauce (almost a barbecue sauce)- warning, it is very spicy! We also ordered the Alambre, which is strips of meat (we got steak) grilled with onions, peppers, mushrooms, pineapple, bacon, chorizo and melted cheese- it was fantastic! This location is more in line with decor seen in Mexican restaurants with the main dining area with the bar running the entire length of the dining area. Then stepping up a few steps you enter another section with tables only and a beach theme. The main dining area is extremely noisy while the secondary dining area is quieter but still pretty noisy. The service is very good with attentive servers and quick food delivery considering the number of patrons. The ACP is tasty but less cheese than other places, and they add onions and a bit heavy on the green peppers. It also comes with flour tortillas which doesn't seem to consistent with other places. The Pollo ala Pina was also very good with large shrimp and 2 flattened chicken breasts. The sangria wasn't as sweet as I've tasted and maybe a little strong. But the noise level was well above the typical already noisy place. Very hard to hear the server and vice-versa. Also as expected the orders took longer than usual. The typical 5-10 min arrival of food (I joke that it's microwaved because it's so quick!) came in 40 mins! The wait time to get in was reasonable considering the crowd but 40 mins to get an order out? Either Mgmt didn't plan the kitchen staff correctly or the microwaves broke! The food was still as good as it always is when it finally came out. And the 3 batches of tortillas and salsa were good too :-) Still a recommended place for good food but think twice about coming during Cinco de Mayo... unless you just like waiting for everything :-) Since this was an unusual situation from normal days, my original rating was not changed because they are 4 stars typically. I have been here several times, with friends and family. All of us absolutely adore this place and will use almost any excuse to go! The business itself has such a fun atmosphere. The decorations, seating, and floor plan makes it easy to feel comfortable and to hold conversation with those you are with. Their margaritas are absolutely INCREDIBLE. I have only tried a few, but the ones I have tried are delicious. Their food is excellent as well. It's your standard Mexican cuisine; however, they have other options on the menu that are more traditional that I have not seen at other Mexican restaurants. The service is also good! They are polite, patient, and thoughtful. They will make sure your needs are met and you enjoy a nice meal. They always deserve a good tip for their hard work and patience! The server yelled what the f**k on our table with little children watching in shock. More details below - When ordering the entree, I asked the server to add a dash of extra sauce, he for some reason, misunderstood and brought it on side and charged $2.50. I asked a clarifying question to the server about the extra on the bill, was it really for the extra sauce... he started lecturing me about "how things work in America". He made specific comment "this is how it works in America, you pay for what you eat". I was shocked about what was the need to say all that on a table with family. Such a terrible attitude in my opinion doesn't deserve a tip which I didn't provide and he came screaming "what the f**k" scaring my children. I added a $5 to get rid of him and he continued to cuss while he walked away. I asked him for his manager and he went away ignoring. Unreal experience, certainly not going back to this place but it's amazing how the servers firstly don't understand English, expect you to speak and understand Spanish and if you have any questions about the charges, this is what you get. read more

The guacamole was excellent! Tacos were fresh, meat was tender, the quesadilla was predictably good, the Chile relleno was a tad disappointing. It was a slab of cheese in my pepper which had no real flavor. I requested grilled vegetables on my quesadilla and boy that was good! Sopapilla are fried taco chip type pastries drizzled with generic whipped topping, generic chocolate syrup and ice cream. Didn't impress. The food quality has not changed ever. It's always great quality food for a decent price. The service is always friendly and quick. Last night we went because we needed a fast dinner for 2 and we were in & out in about 45 min. They are just fast, we didn't tell them we wanted a fast dinner.
