This wildly popular spot really rides on it's long standing in the area vs. the actual food they present. We have been occasional customers for years and left the restaurant this week disappointed. We both ordered fish tacos, a favorite of mine wherever I go for Tex-Mex. The plate here ranks last in flavor and presentation. It is just plain small portion of tilapia with no seasoning grilled and placed in a corn tortilla with a few shreds of cabbage. No flavor. That's it. Compare that to a competitor who presents the same dish with fresh tropical salsa and veggies. A real treat with mango included in the fresh salsa. I just loaded my tacos up with the salsa on the table for the chips to add something to the dish. Next time you are there I suggest you pay attention to what you are really eating. I have mixed feelings about our experience here. We just relocated to Texas so maybe my expectations for Mexican food were too high. Wonderful ambience, great location (the Star), mediocre food and service. I'm careful not to judge service too much due to covid and the fact the place was crazy busy since we went on Cinco de Mayo. The server just seemed to want to rush our order and us out the door. If you are worried about Covid I'd skip this place on busy days the servers all had masks but this place was jam packed so no social distancing. The chips were bland and tasted old...not my favorite. One of the few times I didn't want a chips refill at a Mexican restaurant. We shared brisket tacos and the fajitas along w queso dip. I will say I enjoyed the brisket tacos and the presentation looked nice. Chicken for fajitas was dry and some of the rice was hard..The food was decent nothing too memorable to excite for a return visit. If your looking for a basic fix this will do. read more

We had a marvelous experience at Mi Cocina!! It was my first time visiting and Anthony Smith was our server. He was speedy, polite, and very knowledgeable of what to order on the menu. He checked on us without hovering and shared stories of some of the famous people who frequent the restaurant. The atmosphere, location, and energy were everything for me! When we walked in, we thought 2 things: 1) We are under-dressed 2) We can't afford this place We were wrong! This place is very nice and gives you the feel of a "fancy" restaurant and the staff doesn't disappoint. The food is great and my wife and I enjoyed lunch for a total $25. Mambo Taxi is my go to drink here! It's a frozen Margarita and it tastes so good you won't just ask for one! This location is at The Star in Frisco, be t to the Dallas Cowboys Headquarters. Plenty of parking space. My favorite dish is their Tacos "De Brisket" Which you have Your choice of Flour or Corn Tortillas with Slow roasted Shredded Brisket, Jack Cheese, Onions and Poblanos served with Arroz Verde and Sliced Avocado Ensalada. I came from California, arrived grumpy after a bad flight. After the food here, I was very happy. Nuff sed. I learned Tex Mex is very different from Mexican food that I'm used to in Cali. Now, if I could leave NO stars I would. Love how corporate will respond and say and an email to the address and tell in detail what happened. Then you do, taking time out of your day, and hear NOTHING! Then you send a 2nd email, even verifying it was the email they said to send it to and AGAIN NOTHING. I have heard great things about the Mi Cocina's "swirly" drink so I had to give them a try. We all started with the Mambo Taxi which is a frozen sangria margarita swirl. Wow! This drink is so refreshing and delicious however beware because it will certainly creep up on you! Dinner items ordered were the beef taco with a side of refried beans, and the chicken and and cheese enchiladas, you have a choice of protein, veggie or cheese, that also comes with rice and beans. The enchiladas were oh so tasty! Plenty of sauce and cheese which is exactly how I like it! I loved the drinks and food so much so that I went to try another location the next day! read more

Let me start this review off by saying this location DOES NOT HAVE HAPPY HOUR. AT ALL. They don't offer it, so that's depressing but okay. We asked the hostess if we could sit at the bar but it looks like the actual bar top was closed so they seated us at the high top tables in the bar area. We were seated for a about five minutes before other tables started being seated, about 5 of them. Only then did servers start coming out to greet people and they went to every other table first before making their way over to us. That's when we found out they don't offer happy hour. We were just looking for a quick snack and a drink anyway so didn't stay too long. Salsa and queso blanco are delish but come on, we need a happy hour! read more

The area over here has just a plethora of selection of new restaurants now. Mi Cocina is a very fancy looking Mexican food eatery. It is elegant from the moment you walk in. With is chic decor, upscale lighting, large space and all I really expected something over the top. Slightly disappointed.... the menu was basic... nothing really interesting or exciting... really just mostly normal Mexican food. The salsa and chips that they brought out were pretty good... salsa seemed fresh and the chips were crunchy and not too thin. I ordered the chicken nachos which are stated as prepared by the individual chip... this is how I like them. This way I get toppings on each chip and bite. The nachos were good... but kind of bland... the chicken wasn't pulled, shredded, or even chopped up... it was just one large piece per chip. Really the presentation was a bit lacking to me. It tasted good but the presentation fell short of the atmosphere of the venue. It wasn't expensive... really fair pricing... the food was ok.... and service was fine.... I guess with how nice the place looked I was expecting something truly inspiring... like I said... disappointing. read more

A group of co-workers and I went for lunch today and were highly disappointed with our experience. We were seated in a half booth half table near the kitchen, but they were busy so it was ok. What we didn't know was apparently they have a ridiculous system for to go orders, so throughout our meal we had multiple random people standing near us while waiting for staff was coming out of the kitchen trying to dodge them and around us. Our waitress was nice but she was not attentive and had to flag her down to take our order and for our check. When our food came out one dish was wrong and had to be taken back for a quick correction, but two other dishes were lukewarm. We asked our server if our food could be warmed and she said no, she offered to remake it but then started the kitchen was really backed up so it would take a while. She clearly didn't want to have it remade and at this point we just wanted to be done so we ate our lukewarm food and paid (online because it took so long for her to return) and left. We typically go to the location in Grandscape and will be driving there instead of this location. read more

We just left this restaurant after being seated by the hostess on the patio and waiting 20 minutes to be served only for no one to even acknowledge our party of four. We went in to remind them twice, and finally left. This incredibly poor service at 4:00 PM when they were not at all busy but well staffed was also accompanied by a tray with dirty plates being dropped right behind us a few minutes after a sat down; pieces of plates hit my 8 YO and no one even apologized or checked on us. Mi Cocina is a local chain here in North Texas. This review is for the Frisco location at The Star. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor dining along with curbside pickup and delivery through one of the apps. We visited on a Saturday night in late August 2020. We did not have reservations and only had to wait about 10 minutes. The food quality is always top notch and the mambo taxi was superb on a hot night in Texas. We only gave 4 stars because we were slightly disappointed with the waiter service. I chalk it up to a busy Saturday night with a light staff due to the current covid business climate. We will definitely be back and recommend this location for quality Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine. read more

One of Frisco's best! Great location, fantastic service, and delicious food. We took the kids for dinner on a Thursday around 6pm and had an exceptional experience. Wait staff was extremely friendly, and perfectly attentive. We ordered margaritas, brisket queso, the brisket tacos, the Cocina Chinga, and a salad - would recommend all of them!
