We have eaten at a different location before and the food and service was wonderful. We came here tonight and it was about 9pm and we had to wait about 15 minutes before anyone came to seat us but she had been talking to another employee and kept looking at us and finally came and seated us. The waitress was not attentive we had to wait to get refills on drinks and the food was horrible. It was cold and had no taste. Definitely not worth the $60.00 we spent! I grew up on Tex-Mex so I don't normally go out of my way for it. But I felt like some Tacos so I decided to give Mi Cocina a shot. I did t really know what to get but my waitress Sonia made it easy for me. She said go for the brisket tacos. Glad I did. They were beefy and satisfying. We had lunch on the patio this past Saturday. There is a little pond that the patio overlooks. The service was on point. Although the location was extremely busy with the nice weather and it was around lunchtime, our server was attentive and the manager was checking on tables. I had the taco salad which was really good and not too greasy as many are. The queso wasn't my favorite but love their chips. I had a frozen drink that had sangria mixed in. The food was pretty delicious but my fajitas were not sizzling. When I asked why not I was told that there were three orders and the smoke up the place so they let mine sit. Really? The still tasted ok but not ideal fajita experience. The service was definitely sub par probably because we had a young guy who was learning. Never checked back on us. Bar service is great...for first 10 minutes. After that, expect unattentive service and nothing else unless you flag down other wait staff. Mi Cocina used to be our 'go to' place but lately the bar is under staffed and the service is slow. No sure why management thinks one bartender for the entire restaurant is adaquate; it's not. The food is consistently great (when it eventually comes and if the bartender asks and provides a menu). We used to frequent Mi Concina several times a month but we are now gun shy. Tonight, teen hostess could not even feign a pretend smile as she begrudgingly walked me to my table. Waiter took forever and the only time he visited my table was to pick up my credit card to pay. Top notch Tex Mex! I always dine at this location. The bartenders are all very attentive and know how to make an awesome handmade margarita. Pablo, Tito and Octavio. The patio is my favorite when the weather is right. My server tonight, Brianna, was wonderful. They still have all the same servers from 10 years ago with the exception of a a couple new. The Manager, Danielle, Alex and Kimber all know me by name and make a point to catch up on previous conversations or life events. This is a home away from home. We typically close our work week out on Fridays at Mi Cocina - Lakeside - on Preston (Plano). Our teen daughters always insist on a booth - so who are we to argue? Jose (he joked that there are always several Jose's at a Mexican restaurant) by far exceeds our expectations every time we are lucky enough to get him and can cure a crappy work week. To narrow him down - we were in the Bar area in a booth on 3/4/2022 around 5:30 pm. He always knows our orders, has a great sense of humor and is great with our kids - and yes, even makes our sullen teens laugh (a miracle in itself). We are always so happy to have him in our area. He is a boss - give this guy a raise and don't ever let him go. Walked into this location about 45 min ago (10 pm on Saturday night 11/26/16) and the place closes at 11. Sat at a booth near the bar and all we wanted was a couple of drinks to end the night and go home. These scumbags completely ignored us. At least 4 employees walked right past us without saying anything. No hi, no offer of a menu, nothing at all. I was curious to see how long this would go on so I said let's give this 10 min total and if no one says anything then we'll walk next door to Taverna Rossa. Of course 10 min passes and not a damn thing. Note to whatever inept jackass manages this place: if you can't get your lazy ass employees to keep from completely quitting an HOUR before closing then just close up shop early. It would be better than completely insulting customers who just want a drink and get ignored by your pack of idiots. In summary, F you. Have a good day. read more

I have been coming to this exact location since I was a young child. I have ALWAYS been satisfied with the service and food here, no complaints ever. But now that I am able to sit at the bar I must say I've never received more phenomenal service than I have from the Bartender Tito. He's is very open, friendly, and attends to every need with no room for error. My boyfriend and I LOVE Mi Cocina. We like checking out the different Mico locations so today we came to Lakeside for the first time and we were very impressed. The space is the classic Mi Cocina style but it also has a nice heated patio section as well as an outside area by the lake and fountain. Our server Rogelio was very friendly, professional and on top of his server game. Drinks and appetizers were brought out right away and the food came out faster than expected!! I got the Brisket tacos, AMAZING as always. My boyfriend got the Nachos Mi Tierra, also wonderful. Also, Daniela the manager came over to our table to make sure everything was going good and made friendly conversation. Not a huge fan of mi cocina. This location just happens to be right next to another store I was going to at lunch... This trip was nothing different. The lunches are old, boring and remind me of how uncreative the menu is.. The chips are downright awful. Taco bell has better chips than here.. In fact they remind me of the really really cheap chips you get at SAMs... or at a sporting event... You know the kind that is always coupled with that nasty nacho cheese that comes in the large "value" cans. This place is such a joke.. What's worse.. The joke is on me. The food is bland and overpriced. The menu is very expensive for what actually comes out on the plate. They need to invest in creating a better menu or recipes than on all that expensive furniture. Super loud in there. No better than Taco Bueno. Just because it looks nice, doesn't mean it tastes good. Also closes early. Be prepared to spend a small fortune if your getting drinks as well. I'd recommend Gloria's or somewhere less pretentious, or at least somewhere that you get what you pay for. BTW Taco Bueno is redoing their decor inside! Look out Mi Cocina!! read more

My husband and I used to eat at this location at least once a week...many weeks got 2 to 3 visits. We loved these people. Great managers, great staff, we felt like we were home. This went on for 12-13 years. Then about a year ago they started messing with the menu. Adding sour cream and "cheese" to fajitas, cheapening the ingredients and generally reducing the quality of the wonderful food they used to serve. They bought new mambo machines that barely freeze the drinks. Recently, they moved managers around I've gone from being on a first name, hugging hello basis with all of them to not knowing the name of a single one. The exceptional service is now limited to the bar. You will notice that the bar is almost always full. Regulars know where the employees care. These employees were trained under previous managers. Just recently we ate on the patio, which we haven't done in months, and I was reminded of why we only eat at the bar. Our waitress was very sweet, but sorely under trained. No chips and salsa (I realize that isn't her responsibility, but someone missed it, yet another issue) and she didn't notice until after our food arrived and we had to ask for some salsa for fajitas. We had to find her and prompt her for drink refills (who doesn't want to sell their customer a second Mambo?) My food was delivered to the table barely warm and she was so busy that I couldn't find her to ask that they warm it up. I basically just barely ate it. We couldn't get out of there soon enough...and this is a place we usually love hang out. Not anymore, the whole experience is too annoying. I really want to go with the flow and adapt to changes, but if the changes involve low quality food, watery drinks and bad service then I can go elsewhere for much cheaper. I was always willing to pay the Mi Cocina premium for Tex Mex because if was so fresh, but they've reduced the quality and kept and/or increased the prices. So we are sad and really wish that the powers that be would wake up and see what havoc they have wreaked on this previously wonderful restaurant. read more

I love this place! It has the best tex-mex around town and a very great bar too. This place is a more upscale restaurant, something you can get dressed up for, but for a decent price. For two people the bill is about $35, however, ordering drinks could make it pricey (but they are great and have a lot of alcohol!) My recommendations: Mama's Taco's for the entree, Mambo Taxi for the drink, and a side of queso for the FREE endless chips and salsa! The only thing kinda negative about this place is that it is super busy on Friday and Saturday night. Expect a wait because this is the place to be on a weekend night. From the time my family and I came and sat down to the moment we left we had awful service. Our waitress Patricia wasn't nice, she didn't smile, she was rude and didn't listen when we ordered. I told her I wanted 2 enchiladas, she brought 1 out. When our food came it was cold and my food had a nat on it so I sent it back. The manager was very attentive to rectify the matter, but Patricia didn't care to correct the issues. Who wants a bug on their food?? My family and had to stop at another restaurant to eat after leaving this awful dinning experience. I highly recommend that people eat somewhere else. We will not be back!!! read more

We went there yesterday and it was cool enough to eat out on the patio. Service was great, although our waiter never told us his name. I ordered the Ceviche de Camarones which was served fresh & citrus crisp with ripe bits of mango, avocado & jicama. I would give this dish & restaurant 5 stars but the shrimp had shell remnants & none of them had the intestinal vein removed. Sorry, but that is just sloppy on the chef / kitchen's part! read more

I absolutely loved this location! Easy parking, nice inside, good sized bar, great patio and fab service! I went in for lunch and the food came out hot, fresh and quickly. Our waiter kept our glasses full of water or diet coke and the chip baskets flowing. We started with queso and it came out at the perfect temp and of course more chips! We then each ordered something off the lunch menu. Portion size is perfect and if it wasnt for all the chips we ate prior to the meal we would have felt perfect to return to work(ie, didnt need an afternoon nap).
