We recently traveled to the area to visit family and decided to stop by Mi Cocina for lunch. It had been a while since our last visit, and we were happy to find that the experience was just as enjoyable as we remembered. We were greeted and seated promptly, and our friendly waiter quickly brought out our strawberry aguas frescas. The lunch menu offers a nice variety of reasonably priced options. I chose the Number 3 lunch special, which included two cheese enchiladas, while my partner ordered the Number 9 with two sunset enchiladas with chicken. Our food arrived in about 10 minutes, and everything was delicious. With 2026 upon us, I knew my first Friday evening of the new year would be spent with a mambo taxi Tajin rim in hand. I love Mi Cocina! I frequent this joint once a week for my marg fix and while I will never be the type to participate in a dry January I did wonder if I needed my usual sunset enchiladas smothered in queso order. Well, ofc I did! Service is always fantastic. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I intentionally sit at the bar or at a booth in the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If I'd change anything about this experience, it would be creating a route to the restaurant where small children don't pass through the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A girl can bike over 50miles, take a quick 5 mile walk and intentionally be catching a nice buzz off her marg but when I have to hear or see small children, it just really kills the vibe in a real way. Unfortunately, there's only one path into the main dining area so I don't foresee any improvement occurring on this front. Highly recommend the mambo taxi! After an extremely long 7+ months here, I stand ten toes this drink does its job. Met up with a couple Nancy has known for several years, Robert & Linda. We ate lunch at Mi Cocina in Plano. Nancy had the "Taco Salad"; Picadillo Beef, Romaine, Iceberg Lettuce, Aged Cheddar, Jack Cheese, Avocado, Tomato, Pico de Gallo, y Tortilla Strips. I ordered the "Tacos Habana"; Chile Adobo Chicken, Onion, Cilantro, Corn Tortillas, Pica-Pica, Avocado Ensalada, y Arroz Verde. They also provide you with fresh chips and red sauce to enjoy while there, and they refill often. We chatted for some time before ordering, while eating, and after eating. It's been a long time since they last saw each other and had a lot to catch up on. Our food arrived, and all was a beautiful presentation. Each Mexican Restaurant serves its food differently, and they did that with the Taco Salad. The Shell is filled with Picadillo Beef to the top with the rest of the goodies underneath and all around. Nancy enjoyed all that she ate, and I finished off the rest - and it was all good stuff. Nicely seasoned beef and very tasty Taco Salad. My Tacos Havana was also very good, and a good amount of everything. I ate all of mine - no leftovers here. The chips and red sauce were also really good, with just the right amount of spiciness. I recently went to Mi Cocina with family on a Friday night. We didn't have a reservation and we only had a short wait. He didn't write down things we asked for so we usually had to ask a couple times. The food was great! I usually order the chili relleno which I don't think is on the menu but man it's so good! This time I decided to try a salad. Omg! It was AMAZING! When I first got it, I was like this thing is so small but then I started eating it & it lost its shape & figured out it was huge. Our volunteer group recently chose Mi Cocina for our monthly gathering. Unfortunately, many members opted not to attend once they learned that the restaurant's parent company has a history of promoting and supporting bigotry. The organizer wasn't aware of that beforehand, but now we've all agreed we won't be supporting Mi Cocina in the future. As for the experience itself -- the waiter was absolutely amazing, very attentive and kind, so no complaints there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is beautiful with great views and a nice atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, I personally didn't want to contribute any money to a company that aligns with those kinds of values, so I only ordered water. Unfortunately, I was still charged a little over $2 for it, which was frustrating since I really didn't want to spend anything here at all. It's a shame, because the location and staff were both wonderful, but I can't in good conscience support or recommend a business that promotes bigotry. read more

If I could give them a ZERO I would. Terrible experience at Mi Cocina and zero integrity from management. My partner accidentally left her purse outside after dinner. The next morning, we returned and asked the manager to check cameras. He went to the back, came out with a waitress, and claimed the footage showed us leaving with the purse -- a complete lie. Later that day, we returned to request the footage again so we could file a police report (the purse had cash, cards, and a $2,000 bracelet(which is missing)). This time, the GM, Humberto, suddenly appeared holding the purse, saying a busboy "just found it" and it had been in the office. When we got home, we realized how blatantly we'd been lied to. We called to inform Humberto of the false story his employee gave, and his response was, "Well, you have your purse and nothing is missing." How would he even know what was in it? Then he hung up on us. The dishonesty from Humberto, the hostess Angelina, and the first manager we spoke to left a terrible taste in our mouths. Businesses should be held accountable for this kind of behavior. We will never return. We have everything recorded but can't upload because it's too long. We also emailed Corporate as well and hopefully we will hear back from them, because this type of behavior is NOT OKAY! read more

This is the second Mi Cocina spot I have been too in Dallas and this was way better than the other one. First off the ambiance was great. There was indoor and outdoor. Was seated outdoor per request and they had a small pond of water outside which was really nice the warm weather. Service was good gave us refills on their chips and salsa, which was very good. I ordered the number 10 special which was the pork tamales with rice and beans. The presentation, portion and taste were all great. First of all, I have never had ground beef in enchiladas. I will leave it at that. Let's be honest, I am surrounded by A LOT of good Mexican food but, I am also not a fan of Tex Mex. I've tried. This is my 3rd time in Dallas visiting my friend and each time I leave thinking "people like this?" I'm sorry! It's just a preference. I met a lady at the airport who even brought this place up! I don't want queso with every meal and all the queso's I've tried has been okay. I've had a better one at a restaurant in Palm Springs. The service was fantastic so I gave it 3 stars. We ate lunch at this location yesterday. This location has a great covered outdoor dining area with ceiling fans to keep you cool and plenty of shade. The patio is built overlooking a small pond with fountain and adds to the ambiance. I ordered the Tacos de Pescado (Grouper) and they were absolutely amazing! The unsweet iced tea was some of the best I have had. The queso (yellow) was good too. My husband ordered the steak fajitas and enjoyed them. Our waiter was attentive and wonderful. So my parent's and invited us for dinner and I did not know ahead of time that this is where we were going because if I had, I would have made sure that we got there much earlier than we did simply because of the fact that it was Friday night and it was going to be incredibly busy. So for table of seven, we had to wait about 30 minutes which wasn't too bad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had a couple of people that are elderly and so they definitely needed a place to sit and there was only one place to sit otherwise you would have to sit in the bar area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waitress was great, but I forgot to get her name. I used to love Mi Cocinis in Addison, Texas. Then they had a fire and may began to work with the shop at Legacy and moved to Frisco, Texas. After moving to West Plano, I thought great, can't wait to give them a try again. Well, we did, twice and both times we came an hour before closing, and they couldn't wait for us to get out of the restaurant. The service was terrible and the food was nothing get excited about to going to Gloria's although the prices are similar. Last time we were there which was last week they literally swept the floor right up in front of our booth as in not so subtle indicator that they were ready for us to leave. Unbelievable unsanitary thing to do while you're eating a meal! We won't be back, but we will be back to Gloria's in Frisco that has better food, better, Customer Service and has never put a pile of floor droppings in front of my table in the two decades that I've gone there to eat. Forget the mambo taxis they are not the same as they used to be and this establishment is not a place that I will ever support with my dollars again. If this is what they do upfront with customers, I would hate to see what their kitchen looks like. Do yourself a favor and don't go there. read more

Boy, we had great food and service this afternoon. They were packed at 4:15, surprisingly, and probably a little short handed so it wasn't fast but they made up for it with great service and food. Wow, this was the most laughable excuse o "Tex-Mex" I've ever had. All of the items on the menu seem to be oldies-but not goodies. For the HORRIBLE service to the actual drinks and the meals, this place felt like it was robbing me when I could have gotten better at a taco truck. Upon walking in, you think the atmosphere is nice and upscale, thinking it's a treat. It wasn't. My boyfriend and were the last of our party to show up for our family dinner. When we got there, his parents were already saying that they didn't like the mojitos-- that it was missing the sweet aspect of the drink. They told the server it is missing the touch of sweetness and that it is very bitter. The waiter took their drinks and said that "he'll do it himself". After he came back, the mojitos were better. Weather or not he made it himself remained unclear. Upon settling in, the boyfriend and I asked for waters and sweet teas and a salsa for us because all the salsa was eaten by our family members. The waiter said OK, and went to go get them. It took the waiter 30 minutes to bring us back water. He forgot the salsa and neglected to tell us that they didn't serve sweet tea in their restaurant-- we were disappointed so the boyfriend ordered a margarita. By the way, their salsa is like smooth red colored vinegary sauce-- there are no chunks of tomato, onion or cilantro in it. I feel like it comes from a jar. Then as we were settling in to read the menu, the boyfriends dad ordered queso and guacamole for the table. Those weren't bad. They were okay and average. But now as we are talking and eating the queso and guac, we are running out of water, and so did the boyfriends young nephew but out of Sprite. It took this waiter another 10 minutes to come back with the sprite but not the water??? Was he purposefully ignoring the boyfriend and I ?? The boyfriends mother tried to get another waiters attention, and I SWEAR he saw her, he just ignored her as our table wasn't HIS table. Next was time to order our meals. The boyfriend does not like lettuce and he said, "NO lettuce anywhere on the plate. NOT even as a garnish" as he has a mild allergy to lettuce and makes him itchy. Guess what was on the plate? A full side salad of lettuce. Could this waiter not hear us? At this point we were basically shouting because the dining room was packed. So my boyfriend and his mother switched entrees because her meal had no lettuce on it. Even my boyfriends young nephew said he hear the boyfriend say no lettuce, and he knows every time we are out to eat my boyfriend says, "Not even as garnish." to the point of little kid copy cat..... What was this waiter's deal? Going on to MY meal, I ordered tacos de camarones...... CHEWIEST shrimp I had in my life, I had to double take because normally octopus or squid is chewy. Is THIS the BEST Tex-Mex food DFW has to offer? I'd rather drive to Houston for my fix. It's laughable and I can get better shrimp tacos and salsa from a food truck. I felt bad that my boyfriends father had to pay almost $200 for our family meal, and I felt bad that my boyfriends sister and brother shelled out for a cash tip. read more

For a place that is so popular, the queso is a no. We started with the regular queso and returned it for the queso blanco. The queso is just flavorless... how does that even happen? The margaritas are okay. When our server brought out the waters and our margaritas.. it looked like she brought us 4 waters because the margs were so clear. Nonetheless, they tasted alright. I had the tortilla soup with very little chicken (I prefer it this way) and thank God because that chicken was really dry. I also asked for no tortilla chips in my soup.
