I only started going here last winter, when I decided I wanted a manicure with a little more pampering than what you get at one of the in-and-out quick places. I'd heard various good things about it, and figured I'd give it a try since the basic manicure was only about two dollars more than the other places. I love this place! The people are very friendly in a genuine way - I never felt like I was a stranger, or shouldn't be there. The place is small, but very pleasant, and nicely set up. I have gotten some of the best manicures here that I've ever had, and they last without chipping up to five days - which for me is a miracle! Even the basic manicure is very pampering, and when I recently tried a pedicure, it was decadent in the most wonderful way possible! Everyone there seems more than qualified. I have usually gone to Bianca, but recently had Jen do my pedicure. I can't imagine that you could go wrong with anyone who works here. read more

I was there in May with a group of girls for our friends wedding. As bridesmaids, we contacted Mi Cumbia and were able to set up a spa party for the bride to be! We were able to bring champagne and food and relax. From the moment we arrived they were so welcoming and friendly. We were a little late, but they were very kind and were still able to accommodate us. Our manicures were very well done, and they lasted for weeks! Health issues + some other personal problems have left me in a bit of a meltdown, and my cuticles alone have been needing some TLC: I chew & pick on them when I'm sad & anxious, & this week has been, pretty much, nothing BUT sad & anxious. Enter amazing sister-in-law extraordinaire with a gift-certificate to Mi Cumbia for a mani-pedi, which I oh so desperately needed. (Why yes, I DO have the best sister-in-law ever, & yes, you SHOULD be jealous...a SIL+BFF all-in-one is something not all women are lucky enough to have!) So, now, about Mi Cumbia...I LOVE everything about this place. Everything organic, most products are vegan, love the decor, love the music, & everyone who worked there was super nice. Oh, and the raw organic chocolate from Colombia? Treat yourself! Hanh did my mani-pedi & she was nothing short of phenomenal. Not only did she have to work extra crazy hard to get what might have been 4-5 coats of ridiculous glitter polish off my toes (don't ask, I'm an idiot & shouldn't be allowed to do my own nails ever), but she cleaned up my cuticles so well that you would never know that my week was full of anxiety & sadness! My fingers are a beautiful shade of pastel pink, & my toes are a complementary shade of pastel green. And all is right in the world. read more

"Mucho Gusto" is right! We sat down first so she could explain some waxing methodology. While Karina was talking to me I just wanted to say, "You are so pretty" and then, "You are so nice." But I felt that might have been weird for my first visit. Things only got better from there. Karina explains everything and tells you when to breathe. She even knows that it will take "about twelve minutes" and that you're about "8 percent" finished. This place is absolutely the best nail salon in Philadelphia. It stands out as way better than the rest. First, everyone there is so friendly, professional, and nice. They are interested in providing you with the best experience--not trying to get you in and out the door like other salons. When I first walked in someone immediately came to my assistance and actually talked to me about nail colors and my choices. She helped me picked out a color that would look great on me and go well with the season. She also offered me coffee, tea, or water. I started out with a 1/2 hr foot massage and pedicure. My nail person assessed my nails carefully, talked to me about ingrown nails, and was truly interested in nail care. She used coconut oil, coconut, and mango butter for the foot massage--it was great! I also had a manicure. Best manicure ever. I feel so relaxed and am very happy with the way my nails look. The owner even came over and talked to me to make sure I was getting a good experience. While you are there, don't forget to get the coffee--it's delicious. Go there. I've never bothered leaving a review on Yelp for anything before, but I absolutely had to after coming here! I hope that I can make it back here soon. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted with smiles and kindness. I wish I knew the name of the woman working at the front desk because she was lovely. I felt right at home. They served me tea, too! The woman who did my manicure, Valentina, was incredibly sweet and personable and I connected with her so much. She even went as far as to recommend books and restaurants to me. Before I came into the salon, I had been having a pretty rough day and was very tired, but I felt so calm and happy after my manicure. The massage was great and relieved a lot of tension that I had been building up. The experience as a whole definitely brightened up my day. I'm very picky about my nails. Purely bc of the fact that whenever I get manicures, my nail beds always peel :( no bueno. But I got the coconut shellac manicure here and I loved it. I felt no pain, and my nails are perfect. The coffee here is just amazing btw... I have half a mind to go back and get it.. But I really love this place. I've been to Tierra Mia twice and had two great experiences. I went about a year ago to get pedicures before a friend's wedding. It was a great time. The staff were all very pleasant and our services were excellent. I got the citrus pedicure and was very pleased. A lime slice between your toes feels so much better than it ought to. Today I called at 3:20 and asked if they had any remaining appointments for the day. They had a 4:00 and I went right over. My manicurist, Blanca, was so sweet and helped me choose the perfect color. The grapefruit and brown sugar scrub felt great. My hands and arms are so soft and I smell amazing now. The owner's husband, also very nice, explained the curing process which differs from the nail polish we're all used to. It feels dry to the touch, but takes 10 to 12 hours to be really set, so no water and go easy on them. But if you chip during those 10-12 hours, just head back and they'll fix them for you. It's pricey at $36 for a manicure, but it's all organic. They also knock a few bucks off if you reschedule within 4 weeks. I rescheduled while I was there and I'm not the kind of girl who usually spends money on these things. read more

Wow!! I LOVE this place!! The ladies in this place are top notch!! They are perfectionists!! Excellent manicurists with impeccable work!! I am a licensed manicurist myself & this was THE BEST manicure & pedicure I have ever had!!! From the minute you walk in the door you are greeted with a smile & treated like an old friend! I have NEVER had such an easy, painless, fast Brazilian in my entire life. The owner, Katrina, did the waxing. She was friendly, made me comfortable, was absurdly quick (like a fraction of the normal time), and was so gentle that I honestly asked, "Wait, that's it?" when she said it was done. Other total plus is that it is all organic, the waiting area was calming, they served a solid cup of Colombian coffee while I waited, and sell really cute jewelry and some Brooklyn chocolates I didn't know you could buy in Philly. This place made me want to shout it from the rooftops that everybody should be getting bikini waxes at MI CUMBIA! I went for my first experience at Mi Cumbia Organica in September 2015. Unbelievable. From the minute you walk in the door, you are transported to Colombia. The friendliness of everyone who works here is unmatched. They are very proud of their salon as they should be! The walls are decorated with coffee bean sacks and photos of Colombian culture. The music included salsa in the front of the salon and then in the back there was more traditional vallenato and cumbia music playing. I was in heaven. They offer you peppermint tea or coffee while you have your pedicure too. I was there for the coconut pedicure which included leg and foot massage as well as shredded coconut as part of the massage. I left with my toes looking better than they ever had! Did I mention I almost fell asleep during my pedicure? Truly an amazing and one of a kind experience. I will return soon. Mi Cumbia is an AMAZING salon!! I felt at home from the second I walked in the door. I have been looking for a salon that adheres to the organic lifestyle for quite some time and I couldn't be happier to have found this gem in Rittenhouse Square!! I always hated getting my eyebrows waxed because of the pain involved. Karina took the time to explain to me what she was going to use to wax my eyebrows and how she was going to help me regrow them. I was pleasantly surprised at how little pain there was as she did my eyebrows! When she was done, I was ecstatic to see how full and beautifully shaped my brows were! Before I went to the register, Karina gave me instructions on how to apply the antiseptic cream she applied to my brows after she was done waxing them. She explained to me how the antiseptic was necessary to prevent my skin from overreacting to the waxing and soothing the area to prevent irritation and breakouts. The short and sweet: You wanna feel relaxed and like a million bucks? Treat yourself to their wonderful services. After a few terribly stressful weeks of studying for the boards and only wanting to stomp my feet and pout about all the crap I can't cram into my brain, I decided I needed to chill the hell out. I searched around for a place to get a pedicure. Well, I found Tierra Mia had pedicures. And they had massages. And they had a space for me in the next hour. I walk in with my giant backpack. Check in. Am given some water. Get to pick out my color and type of pedicure. I pick the Citrus Splash (which was the best pedi I have ever ever ever had.). My masseuse was Sheenah and left me feeling like I was walking on a cloud. Can I hire you guys to live in the guest suite of the house I hopefully one day will have? This is a terrific nail salon--you won't be disappointed! Everything is soothing and serene, from the decor to the aromas, etc. I had a mani and pedi--the mani was with fresh coconut (smelled wonderful and result was terrific) and the pedi was with an orange based produced (my feet are super smooth). It would be a great place for a couple (friends or lovers) to do a joint afternoon of beauty, the pedicure chairs face one another, etc. and the salon is intimate (meaning, not that big, but in a good way). Just came back from my Bagazo del Coconut mani-pedi - which was easily the longest pampering session I've ever had. Blanca is very attentive and super sweet! I like to zone out a bit during my mani-pedis and she made the perfect amount of conversation. I'm usually not a big fan of coconut but man, their coconut oil smells AMAZING. My arms and legs smell (and feel) fantastic! I also love how they offer you Colombian chocolate and coffee - so yummy! Their polishes are water-based and need "curing" - which means you can't let water touch your nails for a minimum of 10 hours. Kind of crazy, right? But it is oh-so-worth-it in the end. Just a heads up - some of their services require a deposit, which will be deducted from your end total after the appointment. Gratuities don't have to be in cash, which is convenient. I definitely appreciate their green initiative as well - everything's organic and natural! read more

Sorry, but no. The first time I went I had a pedicure and it was fine. It smells nice and the pedicure room is quiet, which I appreciated, so I went back, despite the steep price. The second time I had to wait for 25 minutes on the uncomfortable bench where people squeeze by all the time. The person who did the pedi gave a very bored impression, the massage was weak and not very good, as opposed to the first time, and I had to work on calluses and cuticles afterwards, because that was not cleared up. The mani I had that day was similar and the person was just bad. The only good thing I could say was that she did not smudge the polish. Never going back. I can get better quality for half the cost at the other place I go to. Sadly, for me, this place did not live up to all the good reviews. read more

After reading all the reviews on here I decided to try this place out. I had a terrible experience with getting a bazillion at another place in center city that used duct tape and the woman yelled at me for being in pain. Clearly a mistake, but the place had been recommended to me by others so I went. This place was wonderful. It's a small place so if you are expecting to go into some huge salon with a large waiting room that isn't this place. It's small cozy and friendly. The staff is friendly and I was offered a drink the instant I walked in. The waxing room is very clean and she explained the whole process to me. It wasn't painless but I am a super baby when it comes to waxing, and she was great with my whining. If I continue to get these I will go nowhere else. It's clean, friendly, no double dipping, after care lotion is given and everything is explained. What more could you ask for. I can't say enough good things about this place. Mi Cumbia is one of the absolute best businesses in Philly! The atmosphere here is peaceful and I always leave feeling rejuvenated and light. Karina and the women are joyful, kind and very professional. It's so pleasant here that I get a little disappointed when my services are finished. I have been getting waxes with Karina for about 3 months (facial and body) and will not go anywhere else. The initial consultation she does made me really trust her to do a good job, which she absolutely does! She remembers what I like and don't like and makes sure that I am comfortable during the entire experience. Their prices may seem high but it is absolutely worth it to me. So, I haven't been back here in a few years because I moved out of the city. I booked a shellac mani-pedi and the place hasn't changed-- it's still amazing! The staff is friendly and so accommodating. They are great at replying to emails and are just all around really great. My manicure is probably the absolute best I've ever had. Not even the shellac- it's how beautifully my nails were shaped and cleaned up. I love them! Even my toes! My only comment is that I did book a shellac mani-pedi via email/on the phone and paid for it in advance. When I got there, my manicurista advised that I have very dry toe nails and she was worried about not only shellac, but any polish drying my nails out further. She also explained that this can eventually lead to a fungus (eeeew) and it would be best to leave my toes bare for at least two weeks. I give her an A+++ for being knowledgeable and advising on what's best for me and not just going on with the job. However, I still in the end paid the full amount and received no money back or discount. She did clean my feet up nicely, but I in the end I paid for a shellac pedicure and didn't get one (again, I know, for my own benefit). I don't think that was intentional at all- I'm sure she wasn't aware I paid in advance and I don't think the woman at the desk knew I didn't have the full shellac pedi done when I brought my tip money up, but no one checked either. Most salons I've been too will check the books or computer just to be sure everything was taken care of. But if that's the worst thing, though, I'll take it because of how great they are. Like many, I had high hopes due to the reviews. However my experience as a whole was pretty subpar and I won't be returning. I booked an appt for just a simple manicure without polish (i.e. just trimming cuticles and buffing nails). This was $26 + tip and the allotted time was 15 minutes. I was looking for a quick in/out no-frills service since I was meeting a friend right after. Pros: If the normal salon smells give you a headache (like me) you should be able to tolerate this place. This is the main reason why I booked an appt here. Cons: - Before my manicure started, I wanted to point out to my manicurist why I was here (to show the dry skin around my nails) however she started to moisturize my hands without ever glancing at my hands. This may seem insignificant, but once you start to moisturize the hands the dry patches disappear so she never addressed the reason why I came in the first place. - The actual cuticle trimming/nail filing/nail buffing part was lightning fast and the manicurist didn't do a good job. I knew my appt was only 15 minutes so I was expecting no-frills and fast. However, the first part (towel/moisturize) part took so long and at one point she looked over at the timer and panicked and took only a second on each finger. She had the "panicked" race against the clock look on her face for the rest of the time and performed the actual trimming/filing/buffing part in just a few minutes for both hands. - This place was a bit gossipy about the customer flow, appts, etc. (all in spanish). I may not look like I know Spanish, but surprise I'm actually fluent. I'd advise the owner to let all the employees know to assume that all of your clients know Spanish. There were a few times I almost jumped into their conversation to say "hey, not sure you guys should be discussing this/talking about this in front of everyone." Small talk is fine, but it shouldn't be anything customer related. - After I left the salon and all of the oils dried, my nails were filed pretty unevenly and the subpar cuticle trimming surfaced. I spent the rest of the day fixing my nails. - I don't know how exactly they clean their instruments, but I'm concerned about it. I saw tools piled up on trays. The only way you can clean tools in a mini autoclave is to have everything spaced out, whether you are autoclaving them directly on a metal tray or if you are putting them in the little autoclavable packets. If tools are touching each other they will not get cleaned. read more

Called in the day of to see if there was any availability and left a voicemail. The manager called back saying they were able to take us in for the 30 min pedis. When we got there, we were greeted by the same very friendly manager. The salon definitely has a cool, Columbian vibe. They took us in on time and we relaxed into our pedis. The nail techs really don't say much beyond hi but I guess it leads to the atmosphere. The chairs do not have a massage function but are like big comfy recliners. They offer neck warmers, coffee and water which are a nice touch. Next time I will definitely plan ahead and try to get in for their 60 or 90 min pedicures because it sounded like heaven. The pedicure area only has 2 chairs so plan accordingly. Sahar, the GM, was amazing. Very sweet and accommodating, making sure my toes were good to go before I left! read more

I wish every spa/shopping/dining experience could be like the one I had at Terra Mia. From the moment I stepped through the door, and was greeted immediately, to the follow-up emails I received after my treatments, I was impressed at the level of attention and care that the two owners of Terra Mia give to their customers. They've made me a customer for life; I'll never go to another nail salon! The salon smells wonderful when you walk in, one of the many benefits of an organic experience. They have fabulous artwork on the walls, and the furniture and wall colors contribute to a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere. Laura did my manicure first, and did a beautiful job. The coconut scrub used on my hands and forearms left my arms soft and yummy-smelling. I got a pedicure afterwards, and was surprised that the experience was even more fun than the manicure. THOSE CHAIRS! They have these lovely massage-type chairs that vibrate from the bass in music being played within the chair. I felt like I was in the future! They are the most relaxing things in the world and I want one for my house! The checkout experience was easy and the owners are a pleasure to talk to. I was really happy to see an email from them the next day, asking for feedback on my manicure and pedicure. The email also included instructions for caring for your nails. My manicure lasted a little longer than one week, and I think it would have lasted longer if I hadn't insisted on doing dishes without gloves. My pedicure lasted a month, and also probably would have lasted longer if I hadn't taken the polish off myself. The polish is a bit difficult to get off, but they warn you about that, and it's a very small price to pay for such gorgeous nails and such a great experience. Thank you, Terra Mia! read more

I'm delayed in writing this review because it's been so crazy since my wedding! Mi Cumbia delivered again with getting me ready for my big wedding day (7-7-17)! I got the coconut mani pedi and it was Divine! I was all set to get down the aisle after leaving. Of course, I accidentally scuffed one of my toes and they were on top of things like lightening! I came here for a bachelorette party and it was wonderful! It was my first experience with mani/pedis. (I've gotten my nails painted before but never really gone for a full luxurious manicure). The entire staff was friendly and sociable. I felt like they were all genuinely enjoying themselves and happy to be there with us. It was a very positive, upbeat place, but at the same time extremely relaxing. The decor is very warm and cozy with wood floors and coffee bags lining the walls. This was such an amazing place that I am looking for excuses to go back! Also its organic, a BYOB and they offer chocolate "flights" (samples of usually 3 organic chocolates) for $1. I've been coming to Mi Cumbia for nail and waxing services for a while and have nothing but good things to say about ambiance, experience, and customer service. The staff are friendly and attentive. The prices for manicure/pedicure can seem steep but I don't get my nails done regularly so I'm willing to pay more. They provide a level of cleanliness that you don't get in a typical salon and use non-toxic polishes so you don't feel like you're inhaling fumes. Vivian did the best manicure I've ever had! As for waxing, it's all single-use and again a level of cleanliness that is not always maintained at other salons. Karina, the owner, provides the waxing services and is very professional. Mi Cumbia gives you a packet of lotion to prevent infection and ingrown hair with every appointment. I've noticed they get very busy in the summer so you have to schedule your appointments accordingly! read more
