I always go to this place with my mom after grocery shopping at the ABC supermarket next door. I typically get the braised duck noodle soup which is usually pretty delicious. The prices here are also pretty cheap. I get my bowl for around $7.50 and it's usually pretty filling. The soup is very flavorful and they gave me extra duck the last time I came here. They also have very good customer service. The lady that serves us is always very nice and personal which makes me feel at home and not uncomfortable like at other places where you can clearly tell people are being fake in an attempt to get your money. This is a good place to go to when you are craving egg noodles and are too lazy to drive when you are already in the market plaza. The place seems pretty dingy, but the food is decent. Just make sure you clean all your utensils and table top to be on the safe side. I like to order the bbq pork, bbq duck, or wonton noodle soup. Be sure to put in some of the veggies they give you to make your meal tastier and more nutritious. I don't know if it was an off day or something but the service was absolutely terrible. We literally only got the noodle soup but the drinks and Chinese doughnut never came out, they never came to check up on us either. The food was okay, their chashu is soft and damn good but their duck seemed old and was tough. Though I've been here multiple times, I always find myself ordering the same couple of noodle soup dishes - seeing as that is their specialty, I find no reason to order anything else. Both the regular pork broth and the duckling (Mi Vit Tim) broth are rich and savory, if not slightly oily, but I like it this way. The duckling broth has a subtle Chinese herbal flavor that reminds me of "Bak Kuh Teh." Their noodles are cooked a nice al dente, giving them a toothy bite. Flavor-wise, they aren't as "eggy" as I normally like in this type of noodle soup. However, I really enjoy the overall package and look forward to my visits. They have a REALLY good house hot sauce that goes well with the meats, as well as the fried crullers you can order. I would avoid ordering their drinks - I've tried their Thai tea as well as Ca Phe Sua Da (Vietnamese iced coffee) and both were kinda *bleh*. Also, be aware that the menu prices you see on the table under the plastic covers are no longer the actual prices - everything is about $1 more. Food: The noodles are to die for. You can smell the broth from the door and it smells amazing. The bbq duck noodles or the dac biet (everything) bowl are good picks. The broth is sweet and flavorful. The duck melts in your mouth. The other meats are tougher as their flavors have seeped into the broth but you don't care. You finish everything, even the soup, and walk out of the restaurant smelling like broth but you don't care. It was that good. Service: Typical. They come take your order. We tried Kim Ky in El Monte and didn't like it. Btw, Mee pok is essentially the Singaporean/Malaysian version of mi kho. After doing some research, we decided this place as our first stop. Not quite the mee pok equivalent that we expected. We ordered the BBQ pork and Fried chicken leg. Both with dried egg noodles and soup on the side. Some lettuce and surprisingly small pieces of pork fat. We like to think that maybe very small amount of lard was used. Trust me, lard adds a different dimension to a bowl of mee pok. The BBQ pork was ok but the chicken leg quite dry and tough. Imagine over-frying it and leave it under the heat lamp. Not returning though. read more

I eat here all the time. I have always gotten the special, mi la cay dac biet and it is really fulfilling for its price. It comes with a bowl of nicely balanced taste soup as a side because the noodles's texture can be slightly hard to swallow, but that is what makes it good. Sometimes I wish they would put a little more lettuce, but the bean sprouts offered and the variety of meat, including pork, shrimp, and chicken, makes up for it. There are also times where they don't put enough of their sauce in the noodle bowl. If you ask them, they'll hand you the bottle if you want to add more flavor to your meal. I have always enjoyed eating here and the service is nice and pretty quick, the price is cheap too so give it a shot and you won't be disappointed. :) read more

One of the OG noodle places in Little Saigon. I remember eating there as a teen about 20+ years ago. It was pretty good in my memory. Recently decided to try it again and it was, sad to say, bad. The house special noodle did not contain the same flavorful toppings as in years before. The mi vit tiem broth also did not have any distinct herbal flavor. The included duck leg has no brown color so I question whether it was simmered in the broth at all. No bok choy given, only lettuce. The final straw was when I finished and walked to the car, the MSG effect came and hit me like a ton of brick. My usual MSG symptoms are hot/cold feelings down my spine and tightness near the sternum. I cook with small amounts of MSG at home to enhance flavor and I have no adverse reactions. So when I get these MSG symptoms I KNOW the restaurant went overboard with it. One positive is the BBQ roasted duck meat was juicy and tender. Most restaurants in Little Saigon now charge $11-13/bowl of noodle because of inflation. MLC is priced at $9/bowl. Now I kow why. I wish they would go back to the old recipe, use quality toppings, and increase price as needed, instead of trying to keep low prices but use MSG and subpar ingredients. The ladies that served us were nice. I sincerely hope MLC return to its old glory days of delicious noodles. read more

This place is my go to for roasted duck and egg noodles. It needed more sauce/flavor, but it's good for the price since you are getting a good amount of duck. I remember coming here since the early 90's. Not much has changed except for the smaller portions of meat. The place isn't much to look at, but they make a damn good bowl of soup. One of my favorite egg noodle places in Little Saigon. It's egg noodles topped with your choice of meats and then you can either have it in a soup stock or dry with oyster sauce. Both are good but I prefer the soup. I dunno how many times I've been here... mostly by myself because I'm addicted to it. There are many other places but I really enjoy their soup. It's fantastic. Salty with tons of garlic bits so good and probably good for a hangover too. The noodles here are al dente with a good crisp snap and chew. You don't get as much meat here compared to places such as Trieu Chau but their noodles and broth are trump cards for me. I'll take good noodles and broth over the meat any day. read more

This is my favorite Mi La Cay place. I've been going here for years. After many years, this place still excites my tongue. Finally, I had their ech, yep, frog legs..and com chay. So Yummy 4 my tummy! The owner was real nice. I met the owners' sister. She gave me a Chinese cd music they were playing. I am not Chinese, but their cd played such beautiful sounds, I requested to buy it from them....but she gave it as souvenir gift...Great food and free gift!! Lol. 2.6 stars. This was my first time here, and I'm going to be honest. I didn't really like it. I'm Chinese. I love noodle soups and can always devour a good bowl of noodles, always in the mood for it. Trieu Chau is my main place for all my noodle soup needs. Sometimes, they're a hit or miss, but I could finish their bowls at least. I was under the impression that Mi La Cay and TC served the same type of soup with their own variations. I was wrong. I couldn't finish MLC's soup at all or their noodles. MLC's soup is a lot deeper than Trieu Chau, but truthfully, I couldn't really taste the flavor of their soup throughout. You could smell it, lightly taste the presence, but there was something else that I can't name. A flavor that I didn't like, MSG maybe? It didn't taste natural. I got the house special with egg noodles and the yiao tieu (Chinese donuts), which really didn't taste like anything but oil. The egg noodles were undercooked, and my teeth experienced a workout trying to chew them so I could swallow. I couldn't finish the bowl in the end. As for customer service, I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to shitty service. It's whatevers. Service isn't the most important thing to me when I sit in a restaurant because I'm there to eat. And well, I just wanted to note the lady who served me forgot my condiments: lemon and vegetables. I thought they didn't serve the bean sprouts and lemon at first like other noodle places until I looked around at other patrons and saw that they DO serve them. I had to flag her down. Bear in mind, the restaurant was relatively quiet. Maybe about 3 other people other than me. The only thing I liked about the food that they also serve popcorn shrimp in the soup. I recommend the mi lay cay dac biet, their special noodles, dry. it comes with some char siu, fried shrimpies and other goodies with a side of broth that's good for sippin'. My only complaint is I wish the shrimpies were bigger with a better batter , but, at $5 for a bowl of delicious noodles that's a minor drawback I can deal with. Egg noodles were a little undercooked but I guess that's better than overcooked for trieu chau noodles. I don't like it when the noodles are seasoned with oyster sauce. It tastes like cheating. Meatballs were a little stinky. There was a sweetness in the noodles, the soup, jalapeno sauce and the meatballs which I did not like. Their one saving grace was the BBQ chicken and chakway. BBQ chicken was soft and tender yet the skin was super crisp. Maybe my favorite fried chicken ever. The donuts was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I have been coming here for the last 18 years and it has not changed one bit. Not the menu, not the food, not the outdated decor. The service just like any other Vietnamese restaurant in the area (aka not fabulous) and yes if it makes you feel better you should wipe down your utensils with some hot tea/water. But I wouldn't have it any other way! This is how good Vietnamese/Chinese food restaurants should be and not try too hard like Brodard Chateau (overpriced and gross). Maybe there are other better places for egg noodle soup but what can I say, old habits die hard and Mi La Cay is one of my favorite habits when I am in the mood for some hot and hearty noodle soup. The interior is simple and pretty rundown with no frills but who cares? I think it adds to the authenticity of the place. I am an egg noodle soup girl through and through and although I am Vietnamese I could really care less for pho (blasphemous, i know). I have always ordered the Mi Tom Chien. It's basically just egg noodles, broth, and battered fried shrimp. It is extremely simple but the best comfort food ever. I have tasted the other special bowls with pork and duck, also very good but again like I said I am a creature of habit. The broth is very rich and I can see how it can get salty and overbearing if you try to drink the whole bowl, which I never do, but it goes with the meat/noodles so well. The noodles are that golden dense yellow hue that I look for in egg noodles and come out more on the al dente side, which I prefer but if you let it sit in the broth for a bit longer they will cook more if that is your preference. There is always the option of getting your noodles dry with the broth on the side, which my dad always does as well. Probably a better option if it's a hot day outside. read more
