Have tried a variety of items off of the menu and have enjoyed all of it. Stir fries, noodle bowls, salads, and my personal favorite, the Banh Mi sandwich they have on Thursdays. The ingredients are fresh and everything is cooked to order. The staff is friendly and the owner is always around and offers a smile and a wave. Great local Vietnamese place! Doan has brought a bit of his home to Mt. P. I love their Pho (noodle soup, I usually order the Pho Ga (shredded chicken) which has some jalapeños & sriracha on the side, which is great to clear the sinuses... ;-). The phô here is excellent! I always get beef phô and theirs did not disappoint. My boyfriend got the chicken phô and I can honestly say it's the first time I've really enjoyed chicken phô. We tried the London Broil pho. It was amazingly good. The broth was a deep rich color and very aromatic. The beef was cut thin and placed in the soup after just a few seconds on the cooktop. It's Pho-tastic! It's a little hole in the wall with a few tables. Place is mostly for take out but I love having my London broil pho inside. It's a huge bowl of delicious wonder with your sides to add (basil, mint, bean sprouts, lime, jalapeño, etc). It's a simple soup with amazing flavor and will warm you right up. Had heard great things about Mi Xao for several years. Finally decided to go there for dinner tonight with my wife and 4 year old boy. Food was quick and delicious, and my son had chicken fingers (as every kid wants!). The beef tips with onions, peppers, and rice was fantastic. My wife had the Chicken Pad Thai, and loved it! i'm from a family of south vietnamese immigrants and this definitely reminded me of the family pho i have at home. the pho broth is aromatic, light, and flavorful. only disappointment is the single beef offering they have, i wish they had special beef pho that comes with multiple cuts of beef. the pad thai was ok, cooked well and had the wok smoky flavor but the sauce wasn't strong. the egg rolls remind me of home cooking too! definitely will visit again. read more

I have been here several times for years. The service and food has always been very good and cheap prices. My concern is The sanitation. All hot foods look like they are prepared properly. Easy to see because this is an open kitchen environment. I have two concerns: all salads are prepared per order by hand meaning no gloves. This seems very unsanitary. I had a 10 minute drive home and the orders were still nice and warm. The servings were generous and we had enough left over for another meal. This was honestly the worst Vietnamese food I have ever had. I was visiting Charleston with my sister and we wanted to have some comfort food to remind us of home, and this did not even resemble any Vietnamese food we have tried in the past. I ordered the London broil (pho bo)- which is the most popular item on the menu. The broth was tasteless- honestly unrecognizable! I was sooo confused when I tasted the broth because it tasted like it might have been made from powder with no resemblance to pho's spices. The hoisin sauce and sriracha I added couldn't even save the broth. My sister ordered pork noodle salad and the fish sauce she got did not even look or taste like fish sauce. With this restaurant having so many wonderful reviews, we thought we would give this place a try, but we will never be coming back! I know this is harsh to say, but this restaurant is a disgrace to Vietnamese food everywhere. I am extremely disappointed! read more

My wife wants to find a different neighborhood "go to" for Takeout moving forward since it's gotten so bad. - The people running the front counter and register are flat out incompetent. This place is wonderful. I think it will be the first business to survive the practically hidden location of the center. We had Shrimp Summer Rolls--really fresh, really delicious and only $3!!!!! Also tried Wok Seared Beef Tips, delicious flavors, piping hot and perfectly cooked rice. Stir Fry Pork with Mi Xao Special Sauce and Jasmine Rice was very tasty as well. I'm actually hesitant to post this review as I'd prefer it remain a hidden gem, yet this business deserves recognition for such fresh, tasty Vietnamese food. We tried the wok seared beef tips and shrimp pho and both were simply superb and so flavorful. Service was incredibly quick, I was out the door with my take-out in 5 minutes. I am a big Vietnamese foodie, let me just start that one off. So I was excited to try a new restaurant... Although this location isn't exactly "in town" for me, I wanted to try it out anyways, not realizing it was 35 minutes away, I took the drive; and let me tell you it was definitely worth the drive. It's located in a quaint shopping area outside the busier areas of Mount Pleasant, with a small dine in area, with an open kitchen and by far the friendliest employees. The menu is long enough to have options but not too long that you get lost in the pages, which is something I feel all restaurants need to consider for the undecided ones out there like myself. On the menu, were my absolute favs, Summer Rolls and Phō. I ordered the summer roll appetizer (2 per order| Rice paper wrappers filled with cooked shrimp, rice noodles, and plenty of fresh herbs and vegetables for flavor and crunch.) and Phō (broth infused vietnamese dish with usual mix-ins of diced jalapeños, bean sprouts and basil, placed on the side to add to your likings), of course!!! There are a few different styles of Phō to chose from; John got the chicken and I ordered the London Broil. They serve the Phō to you steaming hot, as these dishes should be served. I pulled the beef off the liquid to ensure the protein didn't overcook and added my mix-ins, allowing the bean sprouts to soften and jalapeños to diffuse through the broth. I was in a complete heaven coma! Ginger flavored broth, who wouldn't be!! And can I also tell you that most Summer Rolls aren't usually achieved to Johns likings because the rice paper that its wrapped in has an unusual texture and the cooked shrimp added to that really gives a make it or break it feel. But this one was perfect!! I will definitely be visiting again soon, this time I'll make sure to have enough gas in my car!! Love it!!! Two thumbs wayyyy up! read more

Had a truly wonderful first experience at Mi Xao!!!! My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the steamed dumplings, tom yum kung noodle soup, and two iterations of a stir fry dish with rice noodles (one with tofu and red curry sauce, the other with pork and the house special sauce). The soup broth was so fragrant and intensely satisfying, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Oh, and this was hands-down the best tofu I've ever eaten--great texture and flavor! The portions are super generous, and the price point cannot be beaten. The service was excellent, as well, and the chef/owner's warm presence and kind nature really elevated our experience. It is so refreshing to have an authentic Vietnamese restaurant of this caliber deep in the Charleston community (and deep into the suburbs, no less!). We have been wanting to go to Mi Xao for a few months and every time we want to go, it's Sunday. Finally, we remembered to give Mi Xao a try and it was Saturday. We ordered the London Broil Pho, because so many people said it was great, and the Chicken Stir Fry (Ginger Teriyaki and brown rice). We had planned on eating at the restaurant, but it was very cold inside. We opted to take it to go. The food was packed well and still hot when we got home. We shared both dishes and there was enough for dinner the next day. I think one downside of ordering to go is we missed out on the big bowl that the pho is served in. The pho was a good and full of flavor. It was packed in three separate containers: the beef and broth, the noodles, and the vegetables. It included a sauce that had a bit of a kick to it. The stir fry was all in one aluminum container and was still plenty hot and plenty good. We'll go again, ready to take out this time or eat outside if it is warm enough. read more
