Was visiting Northwestern last week with my daughter and a friend in SF highly recommended Mia Francesca. It was worth the drive and traffic on our way to the airport. I had the Linguine Con Vongole and my daughter had the Mafalde Bolognese. It was AMAZING!!! It was the best Vongole I ever had and it is my daughter's favorite Bolognese! While in town in Chicago, we stopped by for dinner at Mia Francesca because it was where our friends got engaged over 20 years ago. We are so happy we did because it was a lovely experience. Kyra was our server and she was great. She helped us decide on what to have because everything looked delicious. We started with cocktails. We had an Empress martini and an Espresso martini and they both were cold and strong and a great start to our dining experience. Kyra suggested as a first course the Meatballs and their Antipasti. Both were delicious and fresh. The meatballs were tender and juicy and came with a delicious pomodoro sauce and bread to mop up any extra sauce - amazing. The Antipasti came with Cippolini onions and spicy peppers and we also tried the Gigante beans. The beans were tasty and creamy and they came with artichokes and olives and the onions were soft and sweet and had the right amount of spice. For our main we split the Chicken Milanese and our daughter had the Paccheri alla Vodka e Salsiccia and we also had an order of the arugula salad - I LOVE arugula salad. The salad was crisp, and cool, with the right amount of lemon and a generous amount of cheese. They split the Milanese for us which was great. The Milanese was everything a Milanese should be, a well seasoned and breaded chicken cutlet with perfectly dressed greens and shaved parm. Perfection. The Paccheri a la Vodka was creamy and toasty with delicious meaty bits. We were stuffed but it was my daughter's birthday so we celebrated with a Sloppy Sundae and it was so yummy and enough for us all. Great service, drinks, and food. We had a lovely time at Mia Francesca and cannot wait to return. read more

Really good food. Pretty weird service. They sat us right in the door way which would make you think that our waiter couldn't miss us. But he was very hot and cold. We tried to order wine for so long. Then when we finally got his attention he was always around us for a few beats. Then we never saw him until 20 min later we finally ordered. But when we got the food it was delicious! And more than enough for leftovers which I adore. Would love to go back and see more of their space other than in front of their entrance. read more

If you're looking for authentic Italian in Chicago, look no further than Mia Francesca! My table ordered the Calamari Fritti ($18) and Polpette della Nonna ($16) to share. The calamari was breaded perfectly and the seasoning complemented the squid. The polpette was soft but robust and came with creamy ricotta cheese and tomato sauce. I ordered the bucatini ($23) and was blown away! The flavor combination of egg yolk, parmesan cheese, chives, evoo, and guanciale was absolutely perfection. I often take home leftovers, but I finished my plate. I didn't get to try my tables entrees, but everyone left happy and full. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had outdoor seating options. The servers were well informed and attentive. Had a fantastic work dinner here in the Coach House. It is the perfect space for a mid to large size group. We started our meal with the broccolini, artichokes, and burrata and prosciutto. The artichokes are a must order, so flavorful and incredibly tender! The burrata and prosciutto was also a group favorite, the burrata was creamy, and the prosciutto was salty and savory. They were also super generous with the free bread, which cones with a perfect olive oil blend and Parmesan. They also were able to bring balsamic, which created the perfect three part dip! For my main meal I had the paccheri alla vodka e salsiccia, which was outstanding. The restaurant was able to substitute sautéed chicken for the sausage which I appreciated. This dish is so creamy and rich. The pasta is perfectly tender, and the fresh cheese on top is the perfect finishing touch. You must order!! The service here was also exceptional and very polite. They were very attentive and made sure everyone's wine glasses were full, and that everyone was happy! I would 100% recommend checking this place out! read more

From the moment I walked in I felt unwelcome. We were not welcomed, we sat at the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender asked if we would be eating at the bar but never offered to take our drink order or made eye contact from that point on. Once we sat down the food was rushed out before we got our drinks. We ordered appetizers, pasta for the table and mains for the table. Everything came at one time. There was so much food on the table that the food runner spilled water everywhere trying to make room. When I asked why everything came at once I was told I should have asked for it to be coursed out. We were forced to grabbing our own plates and silverware from empty tables all night as the server was so busy with his 13 other table to bring us what we needed. Being told about the serve being over worked helped us to understand the lack of attentiveness but it is not an excuse for the establishment being woefully understaffed and the steps of service being fumbled from start to finish. The food was good but truthfully not worth going back for. read more

I came here on a Friday evening for dinner with my boyfriend. After sitting down we ordered drinks and our waitress brought out bread so fresh and hot that I had to wait to pull it apart. We also ordered the fried calamari appetizer. It was a generous portion that we enjoyed sharing. For my entree, I ordered the delicious salmon and calamari dish, while my boyfriend went with the tasty seafood linguini. We both ended up with leftovers. Our overall experience was great and we appreciated that our waitress was very knowledgeable about the entire food and wine menu. We ended the evening with dessert drinks and also some homemade limoncello which the manager surprised us with. Seating: I was happy to be seated at a table on the first floor of the restaurant. There is also a second floor seating area but it is not connected to the first floor dining area so you actually have to walk outside to get to it. It is odd and I assume that elderly folks or those with disabilities would find it impossible to make it up the tight staircase to the second floor. My previous review: After a bad first visit to Mia Francesca's, the manager called and sincerely apologized for what happened. We decided to try it again and are glad we did. read more

We celebrated Easter at Mia Francesca's. From the moment we walked in, the manager, Paisley, greeted us ( and others) with a warm Happy Easter. She made sure we liked our seating and checked on our family during our visit. Our server was very attentive and the food runner was extremely fast and so careful with placing our food. Also, the bartender seemed to have an amazing rapport with her customers and welcomed each one. The food was amazing . We loved the meatballs, mushroom salad was recommended and did not disappoint, our main meals delicious and portions big enough to share . The dessert was delicious. I would actually give this 3.5 stars. This was our first time here and since we got here at 5:30 on a Friday, we made it for happy hour. Best part about this place is happy hour is throughout the restaurant (which isn't huge but nice and cozy). We ordered the wine off the happy hour menu and the meatballs. The meatballs are YUUGGEE for a happy hour portion - nice big serving of 3 with some delicious sauce. They also serve complimentary bread which is nice and warm when they serve it, HOWEVER, when going to the bathroom I noticed the big tub of bread kept open and it's right outside both the men and women's bathroom - gross! We then shared the special seafood risotto (forgot to take a pic). No shortage of seafood in it but wasn't my absolute favorite. Lastly, we ended with the tiramisu which was delicious! I have been eating at Mia Francesca since 1995, maybe even before then. In my 20's it was my go to first date spot and now it's where I take my daughter for daddy daughter date night. The food remains very good. I used to say it was my favorite Italian spot in the city. Now I would say there are better, but it's still great, reservations are easy to get, and they have all the old school Italian favorites. If you want an excellent Spaghetti Bolognese or Short Rib Ravioli, look no further. You won't go wrong with their Tiramisu either. The staff is friendly and families are welcome, especially early on. All in all an excellent meal. Perhaps not the best in Chicago anymore, but it's fairly priced and you won't leave hungry. read more

My only complaint was that it was really loud for only half the tables full. Service 5/5: Our waitress was extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. She offered great suggestions and always refilled our waters. Food 4/5: I ordered the carbonara pasta with chicken and it was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed and it wouldn't change a thing. I did try another dish that my friend ordered and I wasn't impressed at all. He thought his was average and wish he would have ordered my dish. We have come here before. We generally like the place. Last night it was absolutely jam packed and unfortunately that took a toll on the service we received. The waiter was overwhelmed and while he was nice and tried hard, he really wasn't worth the 20% gratuity that we felt obligated to leave. The food was good though. The mixed drinks were average and when your Manhattan is mediocre, you know their bartender is less experienced. Overall I would still recommend the place, but probably not on a Friday or Saturday. I think that the price is a bit high for what you are getting and the most irritating part of the entire experience was a 3% surcharge tacked on our bill at the end. This is a nonsense charge left over from Covid and its nothing short of a money grab. Who knows what it's for except to line the owners pockets. It's not enough for us to pay $250 plus tip for dinner for four? Really!? It makes you distrust the restaurant and you should scrutinize the bill if you go here. Ask them to remove that bullshit fee. But really if they value their customers they would not even add it on there. read more

I came here with my adult daughter on Christmas Eve. This place was hopping. We enjoyed people watching and the food was yummy. Mine (pollo Milanese) was under seasoned but some added salt went a long way. The staff were great and it was fun to observe their congenial interactions. Tom was great! We had Thanksgiving dinner at Mia Francesca. We had a lovely time enjoying the beautiful, hip, urban ambiance. The service was friendly and attentive. Our appetizers and drinks came out unrecorded time and were delicious. There was a small glitch with our entrees and we ended up waiting a little longer than expected but our server and management took very good care of us. They comped our entrees and desserts ( which were all delicious). All in all this is a fun restaurant. Highly recommended. read more
