I've tried a lot of the menu at Orange Square over my visits, but this time around I went with the teriyaki and the ji pai (fried chicken cutlet) bentos. Both were really good and tasty! I love that their bentos have such a good variety so you aren't just eating one thing the whole time. They also include a great mix of vegetables, which gives you a nice balance with all the heavier fried stuff. I would get the ji pai again. I also grabbed two of their tea drinks with boba this time. It had the right amount of sweetness, but honestly, I wouldn't get it again--it just tasted like a normal tea I could easily make myself at home. It wasn't too busy when I went, so it was a quick and easy stop, with parking easy for me at the time, but I can imagine during peak periods parking would be hard to navigate there. read more

Worst take-out experience I've ever had in my entire life and that includes the time I got food poisoning and kept on vomiting until there were no solids in my body anymore. I think I would prefer to get food poisoning again than ever have to dine here again. If someone offered me a plate of vomit someone else hurled from food poisoning - or having to eat here again, I would pick the vomit. To start, I don't have a particularly long time for lunch because it's a busy day and so I decide to get take-out lunch. So I punch in an order at 11:20 AM and show up at around 11:55 because the pickup time is 11:50 and I'd rather not wait around. I arrive, they tell me my order will be a bit longer (which is fine), and so I wait around. By 12:45, I notice that other customers who ordered long after me were getting their food first. I try to flag them down several times asking if there's any status. and they give noncommittal mumbling and walk away, but you presume they're just checking that it's in the queue or being made. By 1:05, I've made several attempts to flag them down again and some other customers I've talked to are also surmising that they may be prioritizing certain orders over other orders for whatever reason, because people with 12:45 pickup times were starting to get their orders. Eventually, they kind of just shrug and give me "my order", which appears to be just some random meal that's been left there for a while. Because not only is it cold (clearly something somebody just didn't pick up) - it wasn't EVEN THE CORRECT ORDER. They obviously just stapled my order receipt which they had been apparently ignoring for an hour and a half I can't even begin to theorize what is going on, but I suspect a mixture of both understaffing and incompetent staffing, because while waiting around, it seemed like almost every third order had a mistake that someone picking up had to correct them on (multiple times). I would be somewhat sympathetic if there was some sort of reason (maybe it's someone's first day? okay - any statement that goes with "sorry, but-" is fine), but they clearly just didn't care, didn't really respond in anything but shrugs or mumbles, and obviously seemed to just treat customers wondering where their food was as an annoyance to be ignored. I don't have particularly high standards for service, but they truly just managed to maximally do everything in the worst way possible, like Panglossian customer service but in the opposite. Quite frankly, the flavor of the food is irrelevant because I just threw out their cold leftovers out of principle. It doesn't matter what they serve and it could even be for free - I would under no circumstances ever eat here again. If I had a choice between eating here and simply not eating anything at all - I would pick to not eat anything at all and at this point, I'm probably not going to eat take-out lunches anymore in the Bay Area. read more

The Wednesday lunch deal definitely piqued our interest and was the primary reason why Orange Square came up as an option. The chicken leg deal was certainly a fair shake as it came with two hearty chicken legs alongside the typical offerings. We also ordered the beef brisket/tendon box and in celebration for Mother's Day, they also offered a special that gave us a free kids meals for any entree we purchased at full price. We got the teriyaki chicken kids bowl and it was a hefty meal for our little ones. The flavor for all the dishes were great and portions were decent. The beef brisket definitely seemed light compared to the chicken legs but the pieces were tender and stewed with a good mix of vegetables. The meal itself was still very filling. We also ordered a couple drinks, a tiger Thai/milk tea and a lychee snow. The Thai milk tea combo was tasty and they allowed you to customize sugar and ice, so naturally, I went with no sugar and no ice. I was able to taste the tea flavor and appreciated the fact that condensed milk was not required for this Thai tea variation. The lychee snow was not my cup of tea, literally and figuratively. The staff were extremely helpful - we had originally received the wrong bag of orders and upon discovery, they fixed it up and gave us an extra drink for the trouble. Great first impression for me! Overall, Orange Square is a no frills kind of place that will feed you with some solid meals at a respectable value. You'll get some classic tastes typically requiring hours of preparation and cooking like their pork belly and beef brisket - the tenderness of their meats are perfect. We can always count on orange square for a fairly healthy meal. Every entree comes with veggies. Quality is consistent.

The family decided do dine in option. Order was still by kiosk. The options in meals or bento boxes weren't really clear what was required and what was optional. There are tables and a high top communal table inside. It looked clean. There were no napkins anywhere on the tables or by the pick up counter. We had to ask for some but the staff were happy to go get for us. The food came out fast after we ordered. Although we ordered for dine in, our entire meal was still boxed and bagged for take out. The golden taro balls were really good. The runny yolk inside was slightly sweet and the taro was fried well. The beef bowl came part of a meal special and it was pretty good. We decided to come to Orange Square here on a Wednesday. We got their grilled chicken leg square bento special after receiving an email promotion sometime ago about it. $9.99 for the grilled chicken leg square bento box. Not bad right? So here we are, inside. The décor is fairly basic. I don't think they were made in a way to signify appeal but more for their utility purpose. It's pretty plain but the point here is clearly portrayed to be the food and nothing else. You order from the kiosk or in person, everything is pretty straight forward. Someone will bring you the food in a to go bento format and it includes the to go type utensils or chopsticks. You can choose to eat it here or take it to go. We decided to eat here. This spot got really crowded after we sat down, I mean I can't blame them. $9.99 is a steal compared to other fast food places these days. Maybe I'm a dinosaur but I sometimes think of the old days where this would have costed less. The grilled chicken leg square bento was pretty delicious itself, you can tell that it was pre-marinated and they have the sauce down. The flavoring is more or less a combination of soy sauce, sugar, and bbq sauce? It has a little hint of sesame on top of it which makes it a great chicken for most people. Everyone enjoyed the boxes. I had opted for a bowl and drink combo but felt like the bowl could have used a little more dishes and less rice, but it was still very tasty. We really liked the fried mushrooms so fast forward a few weeks to this past weekend when it was time for another family takeout lunch and we opted for OS again. That was perfect timing so I could get the anniversary deal of grill chicken leg box, appetizer and a drink to get the cup that allows for unlimited refills this summer. I was a little confused where my drink was that I ordered when I was picking up but thought maybe I was supposed to open my cup and ask them to fill it. They are a Tawainese snacks, bento, and Tea place. It's a clean, modern shop. Order via kiosk and/or cashier. The service is nice and friendly. They offer small tables mostly with one long table. Though, the smaller ones can be put together to form a long table if they are all available. Basil S&P Popcorn Chicken (4/5). The chicken leg was super flavorful and juicy, and was very tender. I hardly needed to use a knife! However, the sides that came with the bento weren't my favorite, and felt a little thrown together. The cauliflower with edamame and luncheon meat especially were a little under seasoned and didn't really fit with the dish. The tofu and cucumber salad were great, though I wish there was an option for spice. These sides were different from what I saw in the in the online menu, so be warned if you're expecting specific sides, as you don't get to choose. Saturday morning was pack though the wait wasn't very long I chose a braised Taiwanese chopped pork rice bowl for a price of $10.49 (minced pork belly braised in soy sauce and shallots on top of a steamed rice very nutritious along with a regular size cup of Thai iced milk tea 100% ice 30% less sugar for a price of $4.89 a great deal. This is a great place for lunch. Taiwanese bentos are the best when it comes to a balanced and healthy meal. At least I like to think so. You have your bases covered with carbs, veggies, protein and side dishes. I've never actually ate here but ordered to go plenty of times. The braised pork bowl was a little small (we ordered Deluxe!) but tasty. It came with eggs and broccoli. The pork was super tender and juicy. The beef brisket square included a generous portion of beef brisket with carrots and radishes. The bento box also came with rice, veggies and a meatball. We also ordered Green Tea with cheese foam and it was surprisingly good! I typically don't order boba at a non-boba store, but theirs was a different level. The cheese foam was slightly salty, and the green tea was refreshing and balanced well with the cheese. Ordering can be done in person or via QR code, which is quite convenient. My friend told about this place and found out that it recently opened. It is very quiet inside and seemingly most people do takeout orders. This is actually my first time trying Taiwanese food besides the hot pot one I went. I really like the food here and prices are reasonable. When I ordered the pot roasted beef brisket, the serving was huge that I ate almost half of it. Also the bento, funny how they gave me a small single piece of spaghetti meatball. Everything else is fresh especially the vegetables. Beef brisket is easily pulled off and quite chewy. I also just want to try the classic boba since I want to get a taste of how their boba tastes like. I am also surprised that the service is fast because I thought that beef brisket takes a while to prepare, but wow, they got it done, which is way more than I expected. Glad to see the new branch on Milpitas. The location is near to 880 highway. I had the popular popcorn chicken $9 and Szechuan crispy chicken legs $7. Popcorn chicken is awesome like the branch in Santa Clara except it's lacking of the pepper salt taste, we asked for more pepper salt powder. Crispy chicken legs is not crispy at all, it's a normal soy sauced chicken leg with a bit of mala powder, not my favorite. We ordered the salmon and soy sauce chicken bentos along with fried mushroom and giant squid snacks to go. My favorite was the chicken; there were one large chicken and one small chicken leg for protein - perfect for sharing. The veggies on the bentos, however, were not memorable. I did like the crunchy cucumbers though. The salmon appeared to be pan-fried - which tasted dry when I had my bento two days later. The mushrooms were unfortunately oily, and the squid didn't have that charcoal taste. I If I go back, I would get the soy sauce chicken again. I've tried the location in Santa Clara once and super loved it! So, I knew I had to come visit this new location, and especially since it's pretty close to home! We ordered the fried tofu and golden taro salted egg yolk balls! Both super yummy and hot out the oven or stove. The egg yolk balls were only half cooked though and the yolk inside was too runny instead of hardened. :( Service took a bit long too, which almost made us late to picking up my son from school. When this spot was in construction I thought another Filipino restaurant is coming. Literally was here a few weeks wash my giant comforter Low and behold it's a taiwanese Boba with bento box. I decided to stop by and grab a bento. And it turns out there is promotion for free Boba tea. The bento packaging looks sharp. Got 4 banchan as well. Portions are ok. Not as much as the others a couple blocks away. Still o think this place is more focus on the drinks. That's higher margins. The bento was good. I'm not a Boba guy but hey its free, so it's damn good. The place was packed today. Saturday around 1pm. I think I will stop by and try the other bento. The side dishes were so so; a bunch of vegetarian items; sauteed cabbage with ham (not a huge fan of mushy ham chunks), broccoli, raw daikon slices (weird since it wasn't pickled), and this strange yellow pickled vegetable.
