Came here on a whim for lunch! Filling and not too pricy. My mom and I came here on a weekend lunch, small line but went quickly waiter only 10 min. They have table and counter seating, relatively spacious. They specialize in noodle and dumplings, have combo and à la carte option. We share the beef noodle soup combo with spicy dumplings and passion fruit tea, also ordered cucumber in the side. Beef noodle soup (8.5/10)-did less spicy and it was perfect large portion noodles were perfectly cooked beef was tender and chunky Spicy dumplings (8/10)-for the sauce on the side glad we did since it was spicy, but dumplings were plump and large wish skin was thinner Passion fruit tea (9/10)-refreshing and fruity good on summer day Cucumber (6/10)-not very crunchy but portion is large and good deal for $5.00 We spent $35 which is a good deal for the portion. Service is fast and food is delicious! Would love to come back and try the other noodle dishes.
pros: friendly service, clean tables cons: n/a we ordered the signature beef noodle level 2 spicy, golden chicken soup, steamed egg, pickled cucumbers, and iced lemon tea the signature beef noodle soup was not spicy at all, i felt like the broth tasted watered down/plain, just wasn't reminiscent of traditional beef noodle soups i had in the past. the golden chicken soup was ok, the pulled chicken was chewy and tough. the steamed egg was also ok, it was soft and silky but the flavor was just ok the lemon tea had a strong fragrance but the flavor was lacking everything was just ok, nothing stood out to me for me to want to return, if i was shopping at the mall and didn't want to wait at marugame i'd pop in here
such a good combo deal. you get a drink, appetizer, and an entree! i got the boba milk tea, spicy beef noodle soup, and a chicken cutlet. the spicy beef noodle soup was very flavorful and the noodles have a good chewy texture. the noodles are on the thinner side but still good! the chicken cutlet was also really good and crispy! the only thing i would pass on was the boba milk tea. i'd get a different drink next time. you order on your phone and the food comes out pretty fast! will come back again!
Mian offers a really enticing combo meal option that is priced between $20-$25. I chose the $25 dollar combo with Chili oil dumplings, spicy beef noodles, and a drink. In today's economy, this is a steal! Portion is really fair and I had leftover. No complaints about the quality of the food. It's authentic and has good flavors.
Mian packs the heat and the flavor! Best appetizer: Chili Oil Chao Shou for its tender dumplings swimming in a tangy, spicy chili oil. For non-spicy starters, Shredded Tofu Skin, Seaweed Salad, and Pickled Cucumbers are nice, light, and refreshing. The Beef Roll Pancake was okay but with so many stronger dishes on the menu, it's probably not one I'd order again. Their noodles are amazing! The Golden Soup Chicken Noodle has the best broth - rich, savory, milky, and deeply comforting. The Spicy Beef Soup Noodles come loaded with tender beef. The Mapo Tofu Noodles carries silky tofu, spicy sauce, and a gentle numbing kick. The lively atmosphere, vibrant decor, and buzzing energy made me feel like I was dining in the middle of a bustling street market. Plenty of seating too - equally great for a solo noodle run or a group feast. Service was fast and efficient, though during busy rushes you may need to wave someone down for a quick reminder. Overall, a fun, flavorful spot that delivers on both atmosphere and Sichuan comfort food.
You know, it really is true when they say, "when one door closes, another opens". Because, as disappointing as it was to have our initial dinner plans foiled by the long line at Din Tai Fung (our fault for not having a reservation, but a two and a half hour wait on a weeknight?!), things didn't turn out all that terribly for us. After all, it's hard to be too upset when it led to us eating at such an awesome spot like Mian! Located on the first floor, directly underneath the perpetually busy Din Tai Fung, what prompted us to come here when we did may have been because it was the nearest alternative we saw, but I imagine we would have ended up here at some point anyways. For one, the decor and the artwork on their walls, in particular, are pretty eye-catching, but mostly, the menu is pretty enticing. Although it may not be super extensive, Mian has a solid selection of dishes to offer, from their Chili Oil Chau Shou, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and Mapo Tofu Noodles to their Thousand Year Egg with Tofu, Fried Pumpkin Pancake, and Spicy Beef Rib Noodle Soup. In short, there's plenty to choose from! -- THOUSAND YEAR EGG WITH TOFU I was super excited to try this, but, sadly, it ended up being more okay than great. The slices of tofu were decent, albeit really thin, and the eggs themselves were awesome, but the preserved vegetables on top were a bit overwhelming. -- CHILI OIL CHAO SHOU To me, the portion felt a bit light, but, to be fair, it's also because I just wanted more of this! The dumpling was perfect - the skins had just the right thickness (had a nice chew) and the filling was so meaty. Plus, the chili oil was terrific and had just a touch of heat! -- SPICY BEEF NOODLE SOUP Ehh...more solid than spectacular. The noodles were tender and the broth was decently flavorful. However, the chunks of beef felt a little inconsistent to me - some pieces were juicy while others were a bit on the chewy/tough side. -- CHENGDU ZA JIANG NOODLES While it wasn't the prettiest dish to look at, this tasted great. There was a good amount of meat and vegetables and I liked the slight kick that the sauce had. I just wish there had been more noodles to balance how much meat/veggies this had. Between how good the food is, the solid service (the workers were friendly and quick), and how convenient of an option they are, Mian is awesome spot, whether you're already going to be at South Coast or not. What's more, the prices here are relatively budget friendly as well, especially when compared to how much you might end up spending at Din Tai Fung (ignoring the fact that they're not exactly alike). Add all of that together and it makes me more than a little excited to come back whether it be here or at their outpost back home in the Bay Area!
I ordered the Combo B which comes with a drink, appetizer and a dish for $25.99. I ordered the passion fruit green tea, chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup. The passion fruit green tea was very refreshing. The chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup were both flavorful and cooked very well, but it was lacking a bit of spice. To order your food, you scan the QR code on your phone but the staff was very friendly and helpful making sure we weren't having any trouble ordering from our phones and helping us navigate the menu and giving recommendations based on our food preferences. They would clear our table of any extra empty dishes to give us more room. The service was very attentive and friendly.
4.5 stars I first tried Mian when they had their location in Las Vegas (with free mung bean soup!). I finally got a chance to try this location in South Coast Plaza. There was no wait for a party of two to be seated on a Saturday around 1:30PM. The interior is not that large but there are a good number of tables and the decorations are beautiful. Service was fine but minimal due to ordering via QR code. They have combination deals where you choose an appetizer, noodle dish, and beverage for $20-25 + tax, a pretty good deal. We tried two such combos and enjoyed the crispy cucumbers, golden soup wontons, hot and sour noodles, and spicy intestine noodles. We ordered passionfruit green tea and mung bean soup as our drinks. The food came out promptly. All of the food was tasty with generous portions. The golden soup has the tastiest broth in my opinion, and the mung bean soup was super refreshing. You can't go wrong with Mian for an affordable and tasty meal!
Came for their Combo set deal and it was very filling! The potions are great if you're looking to share between two people and don't want to get exceptionally full. If you order the combo for yourself, you will definitely feel very satisfied. Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10) Not very spicy, great noodle texture, and balanced broth. This is a great beginner beef noodle soup due to the rich flavors, tender beef pieces, and mild spice. Spicy dumping (6.5/10) Love the garlic flavor and chillies that compliment the dumplings well! However the wrapper was a tad too thick and the filling felt like it was missing something. Beef Roll Pancake (7.5/10) Great flakey texture from the pancake and wrapped tightly into a roll. I definitely enjoyed the balance of cucumber and onions. The sauce used was a tad sweet in my opinion. The service was fast and using the table QR code to check out made the experience accurate and efficient. I enjoyed that there were photos on the ordering page so you can see the dishes! I appreciated the servers for coming to check in with us frequently.
We had dinner here the other night. It is located inside South Coast Plaza on the level below Din Tai. So there is ample parking. The restaurant itself is charming and has a fun vibe. We both got the $25.99 Signature Combo. You get your choice of drink, an appetizer and one of the signature bowl of noodles. For an extra $3 you can add a dessert. We got the brown sugar ginger tea and the passionfruit green tea. Both were so refreshing and tasty. For our appetizers we got the chili oil dumplings. We loved the flavor and the heat on the dumplings. The dumplings themselves were soft and filled with pork. We got the spicy sparerib noodles. I loved the bok choy. The noodles were fresh and bouncy. The meat fell off the sparerib bones. The broth was rich, warm and delicious. For dessert we got the brown sugar rice cakes. Soft, sticky mochi texture and the brown sugar was the right amount of sweetness. The pumpkin cakes were soft and delicious. I loved the grated coconut on top. In addition to the signature combo, we added spicy cucumbers. They were crispy and just the right amount of heat. The vegetable fried rice was delicious and so flavorful that we ate all of it. We also got a cold combo with seaweed salad, wooden mushrooms and beef. It was perfect to break up some of heat from the noodles and dumplings. Wonderful service and large portions will make this your new soup noodle spot.
Combo B is such a good deal. Enough food to feed me and my preteen. Try the mung bean drink- surprisingly delicious! Service was quick, especially since you order your food on your phone. Restaurant is right underneath din tai fung and across from Uniqlo inside South Coast Plaza.
We came here with friends for lunch. Let me start with service and hospitality and that's why the four stars. The service staff, overall, are not that good and not that bad. They are not interested in making this place hospitable but perhaps just wanted to be efficient. But that is the management's choice. Food is good. If not for the service, I would have given this place five stars. All of us liked the pickled cucumber, beef rolls and their Chengdu fried rice. For dessert we ordered sesame balls, and they are delicious. We will come back again and hope the service will be a bit better.
Came here for the all you can eat for $30 OC Restaurant Week deal. True to their word, everything on the menu was fair game (except soft drinks which is $5 more). I ordered all the popular items such as Beef Roll Pancake, Shrimp Fried Rice, Mapo Tofu Noodles, Steamed Egg Pork, Pork Shrimp Fried Dumpling, etc. The dishes were delicious and my mouth had the spicy zing feeling after eating sichuan spices. My favorites were the Mapo Tofu, Fried Dumplings, and Beef Roll Pancake which were all delicious and had a premier flavor. The fried rice could've used more flavor, which is why it's best accompanied by chili oil. Great food overall for a limited time deal.
Soup noodles hit differently during winter, and I knew I wanted the spicy beef noodle soup at Mian. I have been to the location in SGV, and the food never disappoints. You order by scanning the QR code at the table which directs you to their website, where you can order through your phone. The site is surprisingly user friendly and the waiters are there to answer any questions. The soup is flavorful with mild spice, and the meat is super tender, what is there not to like? My friend got the rice noodles for the mapo tofu dish which are thicker. The restaurant is in Southcoast plaza and the interior has a modernized aesthetic with Chinese inspired decor. Beef roll: small portion, not enough cucumber and no cilantro, overall fairly underwhelming Chengdu Zajiang Noodle: good flavor and spice, nice ratio of sauce to meat to noodle, fried egg was way overcooked, would have preferred some runny yolk, overall good Chili Oil Chaoshou: our favorite dish, chili oil was flavorful and spicy, dumpling filling was delicious Pork and Sweet Corn Fried Dumpling: meat inside the dumpling had a lot of flavor, sauce on the side complemented the dumpling well with sweet and vinegary notes, corn was a nice touch but needed more of it, wrapper was crispy on one side, soft on the other- a nice balance, not too oily Service: pretty lacking, all orders are taken through a QR code, waters not refilled after asking, took awhile to be noticed at the host stand Ambiance: casual, cool, interesting, and decor suits the theme read more
The appetizers were decent, and both were spicy. The celery yuba looks innocent but definitely has a kick to it. The spicy pickled radish was really authentic and had the distinct Sichuan peppercorn "ma la" taste. The beef noodle soup was okay, but the tomato flavor was a bit overwhelming. And it could have more spice considering that Sichuan is known for its spicy foods. The clear broth noodle was a safe choice for people who don't tolerate spice well. For $16.50 a bowl, I was expecting bigger portions and more meat. I thought there would be a promotion for opening weekend, but nothing special. I'm honestly kinda disappointed from a taste standpoint. MIÀN for me has always been a pretty awesome place that satisfies my craving for a spicy Sichuan noodle dish. This location honestly is pretty okay compared to the Rowland Heights & Artesia ones. For the Food itself: Generally I'd recommend the House Beef Noodle Soup, but here it seems to be the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. * Contrary to name, it was not spicy at all even at Level 2-3 which is considered the max. * The beef pieces were cooked super inconsistently, some were super tender while many pieces were straight out dry/overcooked. * The soup itself was fine, but definitely for a Sichuan place, it was quite disappointing. The ordering system is done through QR code, you submit order through it, although they'll bring you the check itself. I really like MIÀN, so I'm hoping there's improvements the next time we come. read more

Amazing food. I had the beef rib noodles and pot stickers, both of which were amazing. I was able to use my broken Chinese to communicate with the wait staff and they were super knowledgeable about the noodle differences. The service was impeccable and the decor was modern and clean. Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 The wait to get seated felt longer than needed. The staff was not seating folks even though there were empty tables. It's somewhat self service and the waiters are not attentive. You scan a QR code to see the menu and order. Food itself was decent and comes out fast. The first thing I did not like was that you had to order on your phone and that there was no physical menus on the table you have to ask for one. The chicken noodle soup was 8 out of 10. My friend got the dumplings and they were super sweet, not spicy at all. read more

Full disclosure: we came for Din Tai Fung but the wait was over an hour. So ... we took the escalator down to this place and we were not disappointed! It's a small restaurant with several tables. Clean. It was lit bustling busy, so we were able to be seated when we walked in. We were told to scan a barcode to bring up the menu. Someone came to take our drink order and we viewed the menu on our phones. Our drink and water were brought out, and we clarified whether we were to order directly on our phones and we were told 'yes' so we ordered our food. The wait wasn't long, a little over 10 minutes. Very reasonable. My daughter ordered spicy beef noodle soup for us, fried chicken cutlet for her son, and fried rice for her other kids. She also ordered the spicy lamb appetizer on the recommendation of a waitress. (The waitress had said she doesn't care for lamb but she liked the appetizer so we were all in!). Let's just say, we were glad we listened to her! We first tried the spicy lamb appetizer - oh my goodness - DELICIOUS! The lamb was tender, perfectly spicy and just delicious! I tried the fried rice and it was yummy, without much grease which is always a plus! I didn't try the chicken cutlet but my grandson finished it so no complaints! As for my spicy beef noodle soup, I really liked it. The broth was the right amount of spicy and the beef was so tender but it didn't fall apart, it was perfect! The noodles were a little dense, but overall, it was delicious. Good food. Good service. Recommend? Yes! Return? Yes, if I'm ever in the area again. read more

I came here on a Saturday evening with my boyfriend and there was little to no weight within five minutes. Once we first sat in, we were greeted kindly by one of the servers and they let us know if it was our first time or not, and we didn't let them know it was our first time. We ordered through the server, but you can order on the phone. It is similar to ordering it on a website for any food. I ended up ordering one of the top noodles where it has no soup and you mix it in and a small order of chili oil dumplings with a side of pickled cucumbers. You get a free cold appetizer when you review just let them know. The ambience inside the restaurant is very nice cultural. There are tons of seating inside so should be pretty minimal. Parking is through the parking lot of the mall there is not much worry about parking. Since this was my first time, the numbing sensation was interesting for me and the flavor was there for all the dishes. I really enjoyed the chili oil dumplings and highly recommend trying the flavor was delicious and the dumpling was very, moist and delicious. read more

It was more than filling and everything was amazing! The soup was flavorful, the chicken was crispy and, the smoothie was perfectly sweet and had an amazingly smooth texture! When you walk into a Chinese restaurant and the patrons are mainly Chinese, you know that it's going to be good, even if it's in South Coast Plaza. We needed to find a place close to Segerstrom and my friend and I were craving a bowl of noodles. Well, we were not disappointed. The pork was tender and fatty, just like it should be. Noodles were cooked perfectly too. The lamb was tasty with the five spice seasoning, nice as a side dish. We also had the beef rolls which were a tad greasy but I really didn't mind. My friend didn't care for them as much as I did. Lastly, we had the passion fruit lime green tea. Tart and sweet. After paying they give you a coupon to entice you to come back. Loved this place, the food was authentic, delicious and quick. My daughter and I saw a long line for Din Tai Fung so we kept searching and this turned out to be a new star on my list when visiting South Coast Plaza. Not only was it tasty but the prices were reasonable. We started off with the Chili Oil dumplings, my daughter ordered the Mapo Tofu noodles both were delicious. She did say the Mapo was spicy but she can be sensitive to spice. I on the other hand love spice and noted a hint of spiciness. We ate everything so quickly that when the Beef Roll Pancake came we had to take it to go. I ate the roll the next day and it was yummy. read more

maybe it's just not my taste because some of my friends do like it here but honestly disappointing imo. tried it twice, their noodles, noodle soups, pickled cucumber and fried rice are just okay. pretty oily and never spicy at all even when it says so on the menu and i request it to be. service and atmosphere is also just okay. read more

Finally visit here for their noodles. We ordered the cucumber appetizer, zajiang noodles and beef noodles. All noodles soups have nice numbing pepper flavor. The meat sauce in the zajiang noodles is a bit on the salty side. I like their noodles texture. It has right amount of chewiness. I will come back to try their spicy dumplings and gizzard noodles. read more
