We were looking for Chinese takeout that tasted great but wasn't super greasy so we could take it home and have a cozy movie night, and this place was perfect. The best part of the meal was the free peppermint after my $50 meal to mask the gross taste in my mouth. I'm not sure what happened to this place but the quality definitely seemed off. We used to frequent this location about 20 years ago and it was so good! Last time we came here was probably about 6 years ago and it was good. Definitely not the experience we had the other night. The shrimp chow mein didn't taste good at all and looked like it was sitting for a while. All the fried appetizers seemed stale. Our chicken was okay. Nothing to brag about - It was edible at least .The waiter neglected to mention the soup just came off the kettle and was piping hot and burnt my tongue. It was our first time here tonight and we came for dinner. We came in with our 2 year old and 4 month old. It's hard to find family friendly spots around here that don't turn up their nose at a toddler. Our son is well behaved but of course got food on the ground. The owner of the restaurant came by and was so nice about it when we apologized! The service was wonderful and our waiter even advised us that we initially ordered too much food! Usually I feel like you get up charged all the time... We LOVED the chicken fried rice! My husband got the kung pao chicken and ordered it very spicy...beware...it's very hot! My my my. How should I describe my visit here. This is a blast from the past-a gem. It's like walking into a 70s or 80s styled Chinese restaurant. Broad menu selections and generous portion sizes. Service is great and the owner personally came around to check on us. She was full of smiles and a delight. I even saw her gently take the arm of two customers to guide them in. Truly this is a family-run business that showers warmth and care. Perhaps the biggest surprise was that the waiter deftly wrapped our entire moo shu pork dish for us with just serving tongs and a spoon- pure magic with his speed and skill. Well I finally got a chance to experience the famous Golden Dragon in Costa Mesa that has been there well over 30 years. My friend that I've worked with now for about 4 years has been wanting to take me there and we finally were able to dine there last night. We were greeted very welcomingly upon arrival and were seated immediately. I allowed my friend to order her favs and I included the bbq spare ribs because those are one of my husband and my favorite Chinese dishes; and if I didn't mention it Chinese is one of our favorite cuisines and I'm a little partial to Cantonese style Chinese. Nonetheless; we also ordered snow peas and shrimp (I love Chinese snow peas), Walnut Shrimp, the house fried rice and pork moo shu with plum sauce which was a first time try for me! They already had me at the final preparation of the moo shu at the table (I love a presentation) but I did like the onion, pork, egg, carrots and bean sprout mixture wrapped in a pancake crepe topped with plum sauce; very tasty! All the dishes were good but I will say that some of the pieces of the ribs were a little dry and not as tender as most but the sauce made up for it. I'll have to give that another try! We also ordered a couple of rounds of 7 and 7 cocktails and they were made very well and were a good compliment to the night. Other notes about my experience last night was that parking was easy and accessible, service was very attentive and it's not too often that a matriarch of the business is still visibly attentive to the business and all of the guests; yes she came around to greet everyone and she was kind enough to take a picture with me. I ordered a pepper steak to take to my husband to try with the rest of the leftovers and to say the least he and I will be returning to try some of our favorite Chinese dishes. After he ate the leftovers we agreed that it's better than our number 1 spot in Corona but the verdict is still out on our all time favorite spot from 40 yrs ago; the original Tin Sing Restaurant in Gardena that is no longer open but I did find a lot of similarities in the ambiance and overall quality of Chinese Dining! It's a blessing that this restaurant is still open and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a good family Chinese restaurant/dining experience! read more

Everything was good. What I particularly loved is that they make true eggrolls here. They are made like the way they are made in New York. Large with lots of shredded cabbage and a little meat. My girlfriend and I had just had a very hectic and sad day laying our canine companion to rest after fourteen and a half years . We hadn't eaten and needed something to fill our tummies and hopefully lighten our spirits. We actually drove several miles to get to this restaurant because their website made it look very comfortable and appetizing. We were wrong, dead wrong. The orange peel chicken was a little tiny piece of chicken with so much breading on it you had a hard time finding the meat. The war wonton soup had very little flavor, and looked like something that was ladled out of the bottom of their dishwasher. There were absolutely no condiments on the table, salt, pepper, soy sauce, or any other condiments you might expect in what is billed as an upscale Chinese restaurant. The hour and sour soup is what I usually get, it's think and savory filled to the brim with top tiergredients. The wonton soup is also amazing, the flavors are rich and the wontons are cooked to perfection. The orange peel chicken is usually a table order, a must have. I used to not be a fan of crab rangoons, but this has converted me. The filling is creamy without an cream cheese flavor, the skin is crispy and golden brown. We've eaten here twice with family friends. Both times were excellent. I've had to go gluten-free recently. They went above and beyond to modify 2 dishes that weren't gluten-free. They made the Mandarin Hot Beef without the soy (my favorite dish). We never even knew it was gone. The Aromatic Shimp was made without the breading (so yummy).
