This place seems like an institution here in Newport Beach. Interesting entrance, as you walk up a few stairs immediately. Small space, large menu. We got the lunch special. Ho sum combo chicken salad & fried rice with shrimp. The salad was huge. Tasted good. Service was great.

my favorite meal in the world i will name my first born child "lunch combo with ho sum salad and pork fried rice"

Came here with my uncle in law who has been coming to this spot for over 20 years. He raves about the chicken salad. I tried a bit of it and the salad and salad dressing were delightful. My husband and I ordered the Califoriental Lo mein and the orange glazed citrus chicken. The flavors were fresh, there were plenty of vegetables, and it wasn't greasy like so many other Asian restaurants. The portions were also generous. Overall, a good and reasonable spot on the peninsula.

Combo salad. 1/2 of the "Half order"

No dedicated parking lot so you have to find street parking. Not sure if there's any free daytime parking nearby, but there's metered parking around the corner that becomes free after 6PM. The menu states that it's healthier oriental cuisine and no items contain MSG which kinda tells you already how flavorful the items will be. Food - Combo Salad: Maybe it's my fault for assuming this would taste good since it's on the menu, but I have some regret ordering and wish I got one of the other salads. The flavor was okay, but it did feel like imbalanced flavors colliding with with each other. The other salads probably have a more solid flavor. Other people weren't joking when they said this salad was huge. The waitress asked me if I was splitting the salad with my partner and the salad was prepared in two bowls which was nice and convenient. Half of the 1/2 order is definitely enough for 1 person. Service - Service was great here. No wait around 6PM on a Friday. Order was taken promptly and food was quick to come out.

My friend suggested we should try this place for lunch today per recommendation by someone else. I ordered the combo salad & my friend had the lunch special soup & salad (wonton soup & ho sum salad). The combo salad was nothing spectacular but I was pretty impressed by how everything in the salad blended evenly well. The dressing was flavorful too. Their portion for the half size was huge! I wasn't able to finish it so I took it home. The downfall was there was hardly any chicken in the salad but shout out to our server Bernice! She was very kind enough to offer me extra chicken to take home at no charge. I would've initially rated this place a 3.5 stars but I give it 4stars for the extended service & the generous pour of wine. My friend enjoyed her salad & the wonton soup & devoured it. The ambiance was inviting & the art drawings on the wall were cute.

I really wish I could do half stars - I think they deserve 3.5. I love that the lunch special is only $12.99 and even extends until Saturday. You get either soup & salad, salad & fried rice or soup & fried rice. It's a good amount of food too! I got the hot & sour soup with the salad. The salad was amazing! All the right mouth feels - a little sweet, a little tangy & has a balance of soft & crunchy. The soup was not like a hot & sour soup I've ever seen. It wasn't the deep brown color - it was the color of egg drop soup? It wasn't tangy at all. I didn't like this & didn't end up eating it. We got the potstickers which were tasty! The service was great and we never needed anything and our waters were always topped up. The ambiance is casual and cozy.

The only thing I have ordered, the only thing I will continue to order. I'm not a huge salad fan if I'm being honest. I have to really be in the mood for a salad, and most are not filling at all and I'm still hungry afterwards. Everything about this chicken salad HITS. Amazing flavor, the combination of their house chili sauce and the hot mustard is just chefs kiss. Filling, refreshing, good prices, friendly staff, awesome location. Next time you're craving a salad. Stop by and give it a shot!

4/2025 coconut shrimp (generous portions/candied coconut texture made this a favorable appetizer to try)

I felt like I should clarify: FIVE STARS FOR SERVICE & PORTIONS Service has always been excellent. Staff are welcoming and friendly each visit. Portions are generous, even allowing you all the sauces I could need. It's just the flavors are falling short for our family. For the popularity and the Yelp status, I just hoped for more. Baffling for me only- the lack of flavors on some familiar items I've tried per yelp and locals' recommendations, just my impression so far so please don't hate me - if you're a fan of authentic Chinese flavors, this won't be your cup of tea is my guess. Not sure yet if I am a fan at all... I've tried the recommended combo salad and their crab wontons- the "hit" so far are their condiments- the sweet pineapple-like sauce for their crab wontons were delicious, and portions are generous. I didn't snap any pics on this visit as there are ample images here and it wasn't anything outstanding this round- The "miss" may be the combination salad flavor wasn't my preference, but I'll give it another try with just the standard salad next time. In my opinion, the Asian chicken salad anywhere else has more flavors, but that's just my first impression thus far. I wasn't a fan of the red/ginger, more vinegar-y flavor profile the combo salad had. I keep being recommended this place by some locals so I'll try it again. So...yep I've tried it two more times since this first draft of my review here. Went with the chicken potstickers. The coconut shrimp? And the honey spicy chicken. Their portions are very generous. Takeout presentation is nice and organized. The only item I would consider trying again, maybe the coconut shrimp and that's a stretch for me. It's really bland in my opinion- but the sauces, maybe that's what I was missing. I didn't add any condiments other than the marmalade and the sesame sauce that came with my items. The honey spicy chicken was far from anything I've ever tasted: it had no hint of honey for me, it was sour like lemon for some reason, and the steamed rice was even a bit soggy and a softer unfavorable texture- maybe from the sauce maybe not, as the rice isn't drowning in any sauce (just giving it the benefit of the doubt it's not the sauce). I really wanted to enjoy this place as I am in this area often. The flavors are nothing like anything "Chinese" for me, but again, I may not be using the right condiments/spices or maybe I'm just not ordering the right items. Really wanted to be a fan though.

Fast, huge, and so so good. I love the salads and fried rice. Service is fast and nice. Cute little spot on a busy street so parking can be difficult but this place is definitely worth it!! Will have leftovers.

We had a sectioned off space in the back and the place is literally falling apart. We were warned about the loose/missing tiles on the floor. That experience also took way longer, despite having a preset menu ordered in advance. Again, the place seemed very short staffed and they weren't very busy in the main dining area. It feels like a younger team is running things now, making the service more efficient, while you'll still recognize some of the longtime employees that have been here for years. It's nice to see the tradition continue without losing what made this place special. Parking can be hectic since it's in a busy plaza, so I highly recommend arriving before 9:30 AM on weekends. The restaurant fills up fast, and the energy is always lively. Seating can be a little close for comfort at times, and you may end up dining right next to another party, but that's all part of the classic dim sum experience. The dining room is spacious and can easily accommodate parties of any size--from a table for one to large family gatherings of 20+. One change I noticed is there are fewer dim sum carts roaming around now. Instead, you can order most items directly from your server, which honestly makes it easier to get exactly what you're craving. The beverage cart still comes around with fresh fruit drinks, coffee, tea, and yes... even beer at 9 in the morning if that's your thing! If you want both dim sum and their lunch menu, plan to arrive around 10:30 AM. Lunch isn't served until 11:00 when the kitchen shifts over, so you can enjoy both in one visit. Our table was filled with all the classics. Such as har gow, siu mai, rice porridge with Chinese donut, and plenty more (definitely ordered more than we could finish). Don't forget to order the almond drink with the puff pastry as soon as you sit down because it takes about 30 minutes to prepare and is absolutely worth the wait. We also tried their newer weekend special, the fried tofu skin with shrimp, which my husband really enjoyed. One last tip: don't forget to check in on Yelp to save on wait time! Great service, authentic dim sum, and flavors that have stayed consistent for years. Seafood Cove 2 never disappoints and will always be my go-to spot whenever I'm craving dim sum.

That had my name already on their waitlist kiosk when I walked in. Salvador was our server and he was simply amazing! Very professional and courteous. We decided on a pot of chrysanthemum tea while we browsed their menu with beautiful pictures that helped me easily locate the Steamed Jiaozi Combo and identified the stuffing for each color. The interior is very nice. I also like the place settings with a nice sized bowl for sauces. I also enjoyed watching them make the dumplings. There were 4 people: one to portion the dough, one to roll out the dough into perfect circles, one to fill and make the dumplings, and one to steam the dumplings. Quite an operation! We decided to order: * Steamed Jiaozi Combo - 2 orders because there were 4 of us and we wanted to try all the dumplings but also share. The white dumpling was shrimp and scallop. Since I'm allergic to shellfish, I skipped that one. Salvador made note of my allergy and to be sure to point out any dishes that might have shellfish. (What a guy!) This is a good way to try most of their dumplings. I didn't really have a favorite. They were all good. I do like their sauce choices on the table so you can mix your own in your saucer and personalize your spice level. * Brussels Sprouts w/ Seasoned Dressing - This was so good!! The sprouts were cooked perfectly and the dressing was nothing I've had before. So flavorful and well-balanced. * Chicken Chow Mein - looks simple but it was so delicious! * Plums Braised Pork Belly - tender and flavorful. This was probably my favorite dish from everything we ordered. * Stir-Fried Green Beans w/ XO Sauce - the beans were crisp and the sauce was perfect. We ordered 3 desserts because we couldn't decide: * Black Sesame Steamed Jiaozi - yummy black sesame flavor. I've never had it in a dumpling. * Fried Rice Cakes - Ooey, gooey and heaven for your tastebuds especially if you love condensed milk. * Italian Ice Cream with Kumquat Sauce - Ohemgeee!!! Can we talk about that kumquat sauce? That was the perfect flavor to complement the ice cream. As I write this review, I realize that there were so many dishes I wish I tried. I need to come back!!

This helped us get a table much faster than we would have than if we had just shown up and waited. We ordered the large family meal, and there were 12 of us. We also ordered the Newport Lobster, fish fillet with black bean sauce, and an extra shrimp fried rice. Overall, I think the food was good, and the prices are reasonable (except the lobster, which was pricey, as you might expect from anything listed as "market price"). Most of us in the group thought the fish fillet with black bean sauce was the best. I thought it was very good, but not necessarily fantastic. (There are other Chinese restaurants that do it a little better.) The sauce was very good, but the fish wasn't quite as tender as it can be. Definitely a solid 4 stars. Other dishes were good. I think the scallop soup could have been great for some people, but my wife and I both hate cilantro, and there was a ton of cilantro. The pork was also good, and my friends thought the clams were also really good. I found the fried rice a bit bland. And for both the lobster and the crab, they could have made them a little easier to eat by cracking the shells a bit more for us. I hate fighting with my food ... And there was a fair amount of fighting on these 2 dishes. The lobster cost almost much as all the other dishes combined. It certainly looked amazing. And the sauce was very good. But I found most of it a bit overcooked. Maybe it was our fault for asking for a big one. Maybe a smaller lobster might have been cooked a little less. The great sauce (along with the fighting with the shell) might have covered up the fact that the meat was actually a bit tough and rubbery. I don't think I'd order this again. The service was very friendly and pretty fast. And, again, other than the lobster, the pieces were pretty reasonable.

Our servers were attentive and friendly. I think it helped that my friend was a familiar customer. We came on a Monday afternoon around 11:30 and It was early enough where parking was still available. We ordered the classic dishes, including salt and pepper fried pork chopsand salt and pepper fried shrimp, but the taste this time around left a lot to be desired. These two dishes lacked the crunchiness and flavors that these fried entrees are supposed to showcase. We found the pork chops to be dry and tough, as if it was prepared a while ago and sitting out for some time before it made its way to our table. The shrimp was not impressive either. At least the shaking beef or bo luc lac was good. The beef chunks were tender, and the flavors were on point. Bonus points for the broth that is complimentary during lunch. Also the complimentary orange slices were a nice touch to end our meal. We'd still return for the lobster and noodle when the occasion comes up.

Stopped in for a quick dinner with friends. I do like the ability to order from the table vs…read moreordering at the front. It was a little tricky for my friends who sat at the same table because when they each scanned the QR code to order, it ended up putting them all together and any edits made actually affected the other people's orders. I was not involved in that thankfully as I used a different QR code at the tables we all sat at. From order to receiving our meal, everything was delicious, don't be like me and not realize how big those pan fried bao are... I ended up having so much left over to take back and share with other friends I was meeting up with that evening. The bao were absolutely delicious! Stuffed to the brim of filling and perfectly toasted on the bottom. The mapo tofu was so comforting as it's a dish I typically make at home. The cheese corn was so cheesy, but didn't have as much corn as I thought, but none the less also amazing! The star was the braised pork belly. Absolutely loved it and could easily eat those all the time. Definitely worth checking out

She got a bento box with katsu chicken, rice, etc. Ordered egg rolls as side too. Sadly she didn't seem impressed. Barely ate half of the box, one egg roll, and then said she is ready to step away. I didn't try any of it, but it looked simple and good. I got the egg fried rice and beef chow mein. I was quite happy with my plates. Good mix of flavors, perfect texture to both. The portions were larger than I anticipated, so I had some to take home and it all reheated well. Service was good. The young folks working were very attentive, checked up on us regularly, and kept our water dispensing bottle full... This little strip of small businesses is in a nice area, very close to the 55 freeway. Easy to access, decent amount of parking, and has an "active" security guard walking the grounds regularly.
