This week while spending some time outdoors, I smelled someone cooking with the distinct smell of spices and oils. That put me in the mood for Szechuan, so we decided on trying Mian. It was on BiteSquad, our go-to delivery app when we don't feel like running out. We ordered a number of different dishes and shared. We tried the spicy noodles with beef, pork dumplings with the oil dipping sauce, and the cold potato appetizer. Everything arrived hot; the flavor was out of this world with the strong oils latching onto the tongue and staying there for a few days after. I loved the different textures and temperatures. Our only disappointment was we ordered the shrimp fried rice as well, but they were out and it was canceled and refunded. We are definitely looking forward to our next visit here and hop to try that dish among others. read more

I first visited Mian in LA and was hooked on their spices and house noodles so I knew I had to make a stop here at the Honolulu location. this little shop is tucked away in the residential neighborhoods with one little door hiding behind the fence (a hidden gem!). we came around 7pm on a Tuesday and it was basically empty, so I'm glad we didn't have to wait like I did in LA. the QR code menu makes it super easy to order. the Chengdu ZaJiang noodles are a favorite for good reason, and I like that you can make a large variety of adjustments to your liking. plus, an additional portion of noodles is free of charge! we got two of those, one at "little spice" and the other regular spice - that was a little confusing, the menu gives off the impression that there are only options for no spice, little spice, or very spicy, but if you don't select any at all I THINK that's regular spice? anyway, the noodles and sauce were fantastic and they brought back the bok choy instead of the lettuce topping. the pork dumplings were also amazing. there's a hint of sweetness that balances out the spice from the chili sauce and it's soooo tasty when you let the dumpling skins soak in the sauce for a bit before eating. I would prefer a filling that wasn't just pork (maybe mixed with green onions or mushrooms) but it's still overall a great app. you can also request their mung bean tea that does some kind of flavor magic to take off some of the heat of the spice! pretty cool effect, and it tastes good as a tea on its own. next time I'll be back to try other varieties of their noodles. can't wait! read more

No frills spot with very limited parking- I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want to wait longer for a table The hot and sour noodles are SLAP YOU IN THE FACE flavorful and before I had finished my first bite I know this place is a new all time favorite. Complex flavors, super rich broths, DELICIOUS sour seschuan chili . Had the beef noodle too and absolutely loved how rich it was- with a touch of five spice. Their specialty pork dumplings are also to die for and the sauce is an explosively flavorful combo of seschuan, garlic, and sweetness. Small restaurant, sit and go service but so very worth the hassle to park. We will be back time and time again. Parking: There's parking in the building but I usually just park way in the back of Walmart's lot and walk over. I usually stop at Walmart before or after anyway. Lunch: Came here with my niece. She didn't care for her beef noodle soup and didn't finish. I got the Spare ribs noodle soup and it was OK. We shared the beef pancake and half order wonton dumpling. I think the pancake is better eaten as soon as you get it because the pancake is more crispy. The wonton wrapper was too thick for my liking. I don't know what to say, I've been here quite a few times already and just really love their food here. I first came here a few years ago when they had changed from Chengdu to Mian. There was only noodles that they had offered then. Fast forward some time and revisiting this place and their menu had changed, some items were still there and then a whole lot of other things. What actually got me coming here more was my bf really loves their cold noodles. I never tried their cold noodles until I went with my bf and I can't stop ordering that! Besides the cold noodles I would also get the bone broth noodles. Those are my go to items and their pork dumplings is so good! I recently came here for dinner after work because I was too tired to cook when I get home, I tried ordering take earlier in the week but their kitchen had already closed around 8:45. So I was like ok another night if I get off later. Sure enough I finished work late again and got into town wanting to just eat dinner and then go home. I knew it was still early enough to dine in. So I had gotten the cold noodles with no spice with extra noodles and the marinated chicken gizzards. It was so good!! It was the first time trying the marinated gizzards, I've had their spicy gizzard as a add on with my noodles before but I definitely prefer the marinated one because it isn't spicy and I could actually taste it! Then of course I didn't get enough of this place and had gone back the following night to order take out for me and my bf. I got him the cold noodles and I had gotten the bone broth noodles with extra noodles. I also order the mini pork dumplings and the gizzards again but unfortunately that night they were sold out of the gizzards so I opt for the pigs ear instead! Food was yummy and tasty as always. Definitely doesn't beat dining in and eating it fresh when it comes out. But it was still really good and my bf and I enjoyed it very much!! I will definitely be coming back here and also because the bf loves this place as well! If you haven't tried this place before, I would definitely recommend. I walked into Mian, a clean and bright restaurant. A few people dining, while others were lining at the counter service. Spicy foods here. Special tomato pork dish was a little too spicy for my mom's palate, but I liked it. Noodles, al dente, in soup was delicious. Stir fried vegetables hit the spot. Our meal ended with a cool, parfait. It was a mix of beans, ice cream, fruits on ice. Street parking was taken so we parked in the building's parking for a few bucks in the rotary elevator. The menu features many different types of noodles and sides such as their House Beef Noodles, Pork dumplings, and Rice bowls. My favorites are the Spare Rib Noodles, House beef noodle, Pickles, and Pork Dumplings. They also have Cold Mung Bean Soup which can help a lot if you're not good at eating spicy food. One awesome thing to note are you can get an extra 100g of noodles for free, just click the option when you order. The cost is reasonable as one bowl of noodles cost $11.99 to $15.99 and the dumplings cost $6.99 for a mini or $13.99 for a full order. Service was average and the restaurant was clean. If youre not a huge eater, my suggestion is getting one noodle bowl with extra noodles, house dumplings and Chengdu pickles to share between two people. We always have too much food if each person orders their own noodles and a regular size of dumplings. My main problems with this place were 1. The online menu system is confusing and hard to use if multiple people do it at the same time. It would be best for one person to handle. 2. The rice noodle option was not very good. We ordered the spare ribs noodle, Pork dumplings, house pancake beef rolls, and zajiang beef noodles. The dumplings were so good! The sauce was sweet with a hint of spicy taste. The beef roll pancakes was good but not as crispy when we got home with the takeout. I love the spareribs noodle. The noodles were chewy and soft. The soup was flavored well but even though I asked for mild spicy it tasted really hot. The spare rib was really soft. I was really full and saved half of the noodles for the my next day lunch. Finally an authentic noodles place. I love the convenience of just ordering via wechat. You can even customize the types of noodles you have, the spice level, the extra toppings to add, if you want added extra noodles for free! After you are done. You can pay for it as well and then just head over to pick up. We ordered a few dishes, the spicy cucumbers were pretty good. Crunchy with a good kick of spicy. My fav dish is the dumplings. It comes in 2 sizes and one small order is already pretty filling for me with 6 dumplings. Conveniently located spot specialized in Sichuan noodles. I've both dined in and gotten takeout from Mian and the experience is consistently good - this place stands out with their flavoring. Spicy beef noodles is their house specialty and one of my go-tos. I've recently tried intestines sweet potato noodles and Zhajiang noodles, both solid. I'm not a fan of most of their pork dishes - the likes of spare ribs noodles and chili oil chaoshou. Pork doesn't taste good, it probably has something to do with the pork they use. Mian is a chain and I remember the first time I had it, I was hooked. How did they make their signature chili oil sauce spicy, but yet sweet at the same time? I have been here multiple times as well as another chain outside of Oahu. Ordering is through the mobile phone so there is not much interaction with the staff. We have been here when it's completely empty and also when it's super crowded. It's alarming that the service is underwhelming no matter what time you go. The servers seem really short staffed, would congregate with each other, thus not really paying attention to the patrons. Later, they frantically give refills and serve food without much dialogue. Our server would bang the bowls on the table in such a rush. Im not asking to be treated like royalty, but I will say that I wasn't the only one that noticed. My partner who is quite happy go lucky said the same thing. Unfortunately, not all chains are the same--I had better service at a different chain out of state. Other than that, the food still tastes spot on. My favorite items are the pork dumplings and the chengdu zajiang noodles. The fill the dumpling to the brim with a succulent pork filling. The outer layer of the dumpling is thin and soft. The chengdu zajiang noodles are aldente and the chili oil is what keeps us coming back. The portions are also quite large and shareable. My familiarity with Asian soup noodles is limited to local style Saimin, Ramen & Pho...as well as instant noods, of course. Pretty enthusiastic to finally try authentic Chinese noodle soup...Zippy's Wun Tun Min doesn't count, right?! The House Beef Noodle is a popular item, so I ordered online along with Pork Dumplings. I dropped by a bit early and waited outside. There are a couple of benches & tables at the corner of the building...fronting two other eateries. The former was good. I requested it less spicy and it was right at my threshold of spice/heat tolerance. Winter is over during the day in Honolulu, so I was sweating like a pig. It is Sichuan cuisine after all. Noodles were firm and chewy; al dente is my preference. The broth was light and pieces of beef were included along with some Won Bok. Noodles and broth can be ordered separately. Delicious and a little spicier than I thought haha. I got less spicy I think but the Szechuan flavor is no joke- for the house beef noodles at least. The less spicy tasted great for the dumplings! I think I liked the dumplings the most! They are much huger than I thought and they give soo much. I was thinking it was a side dish but it was pretty much a whole entree. The sauce is like nothing I've had before- it was sweet. The house beef noodles were good but we got chopped cabbage on top instead of bok choy (I think that's what was in the menu pic?) I think this place is solid. We ordered the House Beef Noodles with extra noodles, Chengdu Zajiang Noodles with extra noods, pork belly skewers, chili oil wontons, and the house beef pancake. I personally likes the house beef noodles but my family preferred the chengdu. The chengdu noodles have a sesame oil flavor to them whereas the house beef noodles have more of a stew like flavor. We ordered them normal spice level as we were worried about it being too spicy but it ended up not being spicy at all. The star of the show was definitely the chili oil wontons. Sichuan is a province in China known for their spicy foods. So if you like spicy foods you would love this place. This restaurant is relatively modern, in both the decor and the online ordering system. The online ordering is self explanatory and easy to use. First you pick the dish, then you add extra items such as gizzards, eggs, choy sum, etc. you also get to choose ingredients that you don't want, such as "no green onion", "no ginger". Make sure you choose little spicy or none spicy if you can't handle spicy foods. They have pictures next to each item so you know what you are ordering. You could pay online or pay at the store when you pick up. I ordered spare ribs noodles to go. They packed the soup and noodles separately, smart. I took a sip of the soup to taste and immediately the fragrance of sichuan peppercorn gushed out of the soup inside my mouth. Then one sip after another I just couldn't stop. It was definitely the essence of the dish. Noodles were al dante chewy and meat was tender. The whole dish was so flavorful and perfectly executed. Xie xie! This restaurant is located at 808 Center across the street from Walmart. Their store front is on Rycroft St but parking entrance is on Sheridan St. Parking is valet only so I'd suggest to park on the street and walk over. Remember that you could always order something not spicy. However if your order one of their dishes with spice, the "mild" spice level is not for the faint of heart. I do love how they have different types of noodles and add ons you can order if you want something extra. I use to love this place, I would come every other month, it is sad to see the quality go down so much. The price went up, the portions got smaller and the quality went down. There is barely meat in the house noodles and I got one leaf of bok choy, how disappointing. The broth was still not too bad, still flavorful, but the noodles had no bite, very overcooked. I use to love getting their pickled vegetables, but this time it was only daikon. And it was barely pickled, had no crunch, or sourness to them. Just tasted like soggy water daikon. 真好吃! Very tasty! This is Chinese food done right! I've been here once a few years ago and I think they've improved and out done themselves. Yelp BFF and I were searching far and wide for a place open Sunday night and stumbled on this place. The server informed us that the new menu was available via QR code and started us off with some delicious mung bean water. We ordered the steamed egg and pork starter, egg and tomato mian, and pork dumplings. The egg and tomato mian wasn't spicy and tasted like a watered down pasta sauce, but tangy like ketchup. I really enjoyed it. The absolute must get dish is the pork dumplings. It was sweet, spicy, juicy, and delicious. We've had food from here before but never dine-in so we decided to take my mom here for Mother's Day lunch. It's located at 808 Sheridan, across Walmart. We found street parking (it was Sunday) easy enough. They do have paid valet parking (validated for 1 hour) but most people park on the street or park at Walmart and walk across. We love the noodles here- al dente and bouncy. The broths are good too. I ordered the bone broth noodles. There are options to choose the type of noodles, how you want the broth ( spice levels, saltiness) and add-ons. So you get a free small bowl of extra noodles too! Don't get too greedy though because the noodle bowls are filling to begin with. Hubby ordered the braised pork belly on rice which came with cut up seasoned pieces of pork belly. He loved it! We also ordered the beef pancake rolls-the beef was soft and really nicely seasoned, the outside was light and crunchy. We got a side of the won ton in bone broth because my mom wanted and none of the noodles came with won tons. I'm glad we got them because they weren't the ordinary soup won tons you get at the local Cantonese chinese restaurants. The stuffing had a hint of different seasoning and flavor. I can't tell you what is was but it really added to the taste. And hubby had to get the plum drink. Sweet but with a bit of tang. BTW, ordering is by phone, no paper menus. You scan the QR code at your table and order off of that. Choose what you want, submit and your food will be brought out when it's ready. Can't go wrong with this spot. The first time I tried this was in Vegas and it was good! This place didn't disappoint as well. There's a QR code for the menu and you order and pay on your phone. I love that there's no interactions with the employee. The fried pork belly skewers was sooo delicious!! Also can't go wrong with a beef pancake roll. LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS PLACE. We had walked by a few times and always wanted to try it. So glad we did! I had the Mapo tofu with house made noodles. Comes with baby bok choi and a fried egg. Amazingly flavorful. Definitely recommend it. We also had the chilli oil wonton, I don't think I've ever had wonton so tasty. The house pancake beef roll, was another huge delicious plate we got. Now I know your thinking, maybe you were just hungry, maybe you are exaggerating. So we went again. And took friends. We all loved it. We got the same things. Same delicious-ness all round. Go!! Sichuan first timer here! I was pleasantly surprised to finally get around to trying this biz out. Even in times of COVID, it was interesting and definitely fascinating to see how forward thinking and "innovative" this business is. First off this place doesn't really have anyone to take your order. Immediately as you walk in you're prompted to put your name on their waiting list--from there once you're seated everything is contactless. There are QR codes for you to scan that lead you to the business' website, from there you order everything that you want, once you hit submit and place your order it's sent to the kitchen to be processed. The only time you ever come into contact with someone from the business is when they bring you water or your meal. Second, where have I been hiding... Sichuan food is absolutely delish--a little too oily for my liking but delicious nonetheless. My favorite thing here was definitely the steamed egg. **insert slightly embarrassed face. Aside from that the boyfriend and I ordered a few entrées and don't underestimate this place because their portions are huge. Another favorite thing about this place is instead of water, they serve you a sweet tea in these cute ceramic mugs. All in all, I have nothing to really compare this place to but I had a great time. It may not be always crowded but it's definitely a place to go when you want something heart warming. My go to order is always a bowl of noodles, pork dumplings, and the mung bean soup (called soup but it's an iced drink). Their house made pork dumplings are so good, definitely can't leave without ordering them. One thing I noticed was that when we ordered the extra noodles on my last trip, the noodles were just plain and didn't include extra soup as it used to so when eating the extra noodles, there wasn't much soup broth left. I would really appreciate it if the extra noodles could come with the soup again :) read more
