I've been going to this salon since I was a sophomore in high school, and I'm now a senior in college. I recently made a random appointment here not with my usual stylist, because I was only in town for a few days and so their availability was limited. I just wanted my balayage touched up and brought up a little, and due to poor communication my hair was turned into an orange mess! I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Michael Anthony Salon!! We're new to town and my daughter had decided on a drastic change. From shoulder length hair to a pixie cut. And we wanted it quickly, because picture day was in a few days. They managed to get us in to see Alex and she was an absolute dream! My daughter and I had pulled a bunch of pictures from the web as reference and we sat down with Alex to talk particulars. Once everything was decided on they got started. Everyone at the salon was super sweet, all watching a drastic change taking place and my daughter had a smile on her face the entire time. Alex was patient and a total perfectionist. She got the texture perfect and explained to me how I'd need to shave the back of her neck so it would lay right. I discovered Michael Anthony Salon on the DevaCurl website. For curly-haired people, it's literally a breakthrough for products and now, haircuts! While waiting for Kat, I was greeted by about 5 different employees and stylists just saying good morning or complimenting my big head of blonde curls. It made me feel very comfortable and welcome. One of the people who greeted me was Michael Anthony himself, who I only found out he was the owner as I was leaving. He was very stylish and friendly and has obviously hired people who fit that persona as well. Kat is trained by DevaCurl and cut my curly hair dry and styled as I came in with it. She paid attention to each individual curl and how it laid with the other pieces and how it bounced up to make sure we didn't go too short. Then she washed and styled my hair with the DevaCurl products. It was a great experience and I'll definitely be back. It's so hard to find a salon you love, but I did with this one! read more

Michael might be a magician. I am such a huge fan of the work he has done on my hair. I moved to the bay area 3 years ago, and I have struggled finding someone who can do blond, and make it look professional and classy. I've been to the "best" salons in San Francisco, and 3 or 4 other cities in the bay area, and no one has done anything but run-of-the-mill cuts/colors for anywhere from $300-$450. One of the most expensive salons in SF DESTROYED my hair to the point where it looked like I let a 3 year old glue straw to my head while having a tantrum. It took 2 years to repair, and I still suffer from the effects it had. My beautiful and successful executive lady-boss recommended Michael, as she has the same color blond I had been trying to get these jokers to do for years. She and I both have medium brown hair, so can be tricky to pull off without looking like a try-hard, velour track-suit wearing, starbucks-toting desperate housewife or a backup booty-dancer for a Kid Rock cover band. I desperately wanted a more hip, professional look for my job. Michael did exactly what I wanted. It is a completely updated and classy blond look, shorter and with soft variations of color to give it dimension, without making me look like a skunk. The salon has the nicest, most efficient staff on the planet. Everyone one of them is a complete professional, but unlike other salons, most of the people working there seem genuinely happy and not snooty. And even though this is absolutely a high-end salon in a fancy-pants area, Michael himself makes you feel like the most important person he's ever met (no matter who you are) instead of making you feel like you are the hooker version of Julia Roberts trying to buy clothing in a stuck-up Beverly Hills boutique. It isn't uncommon for him to poke his head outside of the salon to say hello and give a hug to a passer-by he knows from the years he has spent in town. The salon itself is adorable, clean, has the latest and greatest hair products & is set in the cutest city in the bay area. I highly recommend Michael Anthony Salon for anyone. I highly recommend Ayumi! I came in for a haircut and she discussed with me what kinds of hairstyles I would be comfortable with and what type of haircut I wanted. She showed me a hairstyle that she thought we should try out, and so we went ahead with that haircut. While she was cutting my hair, she would ask me if I wanted it shorter (I expressed that I wanted a short hairstyle), which was so nice because I know that some clients must be nervous about getting their hair cut too short. The result was amazing! She gave me recommendations on how to style my hair and taught me a lot about taking care of my hair while styling it (i.e. only ceramic flat irons, use heat protectant, etc.) which was really helpful because I've never really styled my own hair that much in the past. I got so many compliments on my haircut the following days. Everyone at Michael Anthony Salon was very open, nice, and cheerful. I met Michael and some of the other hairstylists. I have left extremely satisfied after every visit. He takes his time to talk to you, ask how you are, how you have been and what you are thinking of doing to your hair. Just a few day ago I had the keratin treatment and it has been the best idea ever. I spoke to Michael before about the Brazilian blow out and he suggested the Keratin instead. This was a special experience. I called on a Friday asking for a haircut with Jesenia. She was unavailable so the receptionist put me on a cancellation list for the next day. An hour later I called to see if I could get a haircut by anyone the same day and there were still no openings. I was told that someone cancelled for a stylist named Ayumi and I could come in tomorrow. Ayumi was amazing. I came in with already washed hair (because I am allergic to a few things) and no product. We took a look at my hair and I had a short piece of hair in the back. It was about an inch shorter that the hair that was immediately surrounding and about 3inches shorter than the pieces of hair surrounding my face! I would rather have an even haircut than preserve my length so I decided to cut the 3 inches off so it all matched. After wetting my hair and cutting it I liked how much she tried to preserve my length. My only complaint is that my bangs got cut a little bit too short but I know that it will grow back out soon. I highly recommend Ayumi. She listened, talked to me the whole time and hair coloring and my hair texture, and my hair does look great even if my bangs are not how I like them. read more

I had an appt today after four months of shelter in place due to covid-19. Ayumi took excellent care of me as usual! I was very impressed with the measures that Michael Anthony has put in place to ensure our health and safety are a priority. I expected the salon to be crowded today since it just opened yesterday for appointments but was pleasantly surprised that it was not crowded. There was an employee at the front door that had customers use a pen from the clean basket to sign a waiver, check my temperature, and then proceed to Ayumi's station. All employees and customers wear face coverings and the stations/shampoo bowls/dryers are all sanitized between customers. It was a very pleasant experience! read more

FIRST, Ayumi is by far the BEST of BEST hairstylists in the universe! Jesenia, Taylor, and Karli are amazing as well. This salon is so exquisite that my daughter (7) and I can never ever go any where else. I have always been the "I don't care much for my hair" person that believed that all hair 'places' were the same. I never understood why anyone would want to sit more than an hour somewhere to get their hair highlighted or colored or cut... anything and pay crazy amounts of money for it! Well....I can tell you right now...after the experience my daughter and I had at Michael Anthony salon, I will never ever, think that way again :) My daughter was taken care of by Ayumi and her team, Jesenia, Taylor and Karli.... they did an AMAZING job keeping her in the chair for 3 hours and she finished with hair looking like a beauty queen. While she was letting her highlights/color sit, Ayumi noticed that my highlights (that I didn't care to pay too much for) about a month ago, were a bit thick in the "stripes." I looked at her highlights and asked, "are my highlights supposed to look like this?" She then sat me down and had a "real talk." I took her up on her offer to tone down the orangey-yellowish stripes I had. I never had this done before but I caved. She had me so relaxed in their most comfy chairs, inhaling the amazing smell of the best products on the planet. After she added the toner in, she blowdryed, and styled my hair and I swear, I walked out like feeling like the most pampered Queen. Since the day I got this done, I've received multiple compliments on my hair. My daughter's hair, is the perfect, subtle blend of violet and recieves more compliments than I do. Pretty good service and staff was very friendly but the haircut they gave me was the WORST i could every get. I got it from the owner of this salon and when i reached home my husband asked me "Were you not going for a haircut today?". Today I had my first appointment at Michael Anthony's salon today and I am beyond happy with my experience and final look! The salon itself is sleek, high end, and I love the huge windows that let the natural light in. The place was bustling with activity and full of energy. My stylist was Sherri and she was extraordinary! I was self conscious coming in because my hair was long, damaged, uneven, and I was embarrassed and dreading that she would comment on it (I've had stylists insult my hair before) but Sherri was great and went straight to work. I asked for a 4 inch cut and lots of layers and Sherri truly delivered! Within the hour my hair was bouncy, voluminous, and gorgeous. It was beyond my expectations! First time at Michael Anthony Salon yesterday and I loved it!! I first reached out to Pareesa to book an appointment (I know I'm crazy cause it's the holiday time and didn't have something booked in advance) - I didn't think I'd find anything this time of year but Pareesa she was SO HELPFUL and kept an eye on canceled appointments for me. She ended up finding me a spot for me with Chellia who I'm pretty sure was a best friend or sister in a past life. We did a cut and color, and I couldn't be happy with how it turned out. The best part of he experience is I felt WELCOME, I've been to so many salons where it feels like I walked into a private party uninvited...not here. My first review on Yelp and I knew it had to be for my favorite hair stylist, Pareesa! I have been going to her ever since I was 15 years old and there is no one else I will let touch my hair! Pareesa will never do more than you ask: if you want 1 inch cut she will cut 1 inch, and not 2 or 3 inches like almost all other stylists do. I modeled through college and my agency sent me to a top salon, Frederick Fekkai in LA, to get my hair colored and it was horrible! I flew up the next weekend to have Pareesa save my hair and she helped strip the color and add some back in to make it look perfect and natural just like it was before. There is no one else I will trust to come near my hair and I would highly recommend her to anyone!
