So after writing a whole big review a few days ago another yelp customer stacy sent me that Jen (MY FAVORITE GIRL and ONLY PERSON I GO TO FOR A BRAZILIAN WAX) is now HERE AT THIS SALON HIGHLY RECOMMEND in case you missed it: I'm writing this because I MISS JEN. I moved up to northern California and literally just came out of a 'salon'...It was the worst Brazilian I have ever had in my life...very painful and took 30 minutes...and she missed hairs...she broke hairs...when she was pulling the strip off of me she did it incorrectly that the wax and hair are still on me but you pulled my skin.....and it hurt...very horrible...never again will I go there INSTEAD I RATHER FLY HOME TO VENTURA TO HAVE JEN DO MY BRAZILIAN!!!! I love her! I first started getting them when I found Jen on groupon and been addicted ever since to having a Brazilian. Super easy to schedule with her, flexible, and efficient!!! Who wants their waxer to ask you 'did I miss any hairs?'...ummm no you should know and be able to see...and Jen just gets it done so quickly that there is no pain I'm always in and out of Jen's office within 10 min of my life! This review is just based on stylist Morgan. I wasn't gonna post anything but after reading another bad review about her I felt people needed to know its not the first time she's messed up. I'm a brunette with really dark hair, and I wanted to go completely blonde. I understand that it takes time and multiple appointments to get the desired look. I went back many times through almost 2 months, and every time she just added highlights in the same places since they would grow out during the time. There was absolutely no progress being made. She made my hair damaged, dried, and caused it to fall out. I've gotten my hair dyed many times and never had it fall out. I finally went to a different person at a different salon who gave me my desired look in a matter of hours and left my hair strong, silky, and smooth with absolutely no damage. Morgan is nice, but she just doesn't do good hair. read more

I was lucky enough to receive a gift certificate for an hour facial and glycolic peel with Colette. Let me just say, I have never been put in better hands. Not only did she discuss my concerns with me and give tips and recommendations, but she actually listened to me and tailored the products she used to my skin. My best friend had purchased the gift for me after I voiced concern over dark spots that came up on the top of each cheekbone about a year ago ( I turned 40 last month). They are already diminished. Went to get my hair and makeup done for a wedding and my assigned "stylist", Leah I believe, walked out, crying in the middle of doing my hair!!! It was horrifying and completely unprofessional. No one in management bothered to come up and talk to me or apologize for her piss-poor actions. They just went about their day wile I sat in my chair, pissed off and mortified. Poor management/ownership practice if you ask me. At least they comped the hair portion off of my bill. Kaci jumped in like a freaking super hero and saved the day finishing both my hair and makeup. I never thought I'd be a girl with a go-to hair stylist. I used to go to whatever place my mom went and took whatever stylist was free when she received her hair cut. Now, I wait until I can get Elaine in my schedule. Word of mouth is everything. I heard about Michael Kelly's and called the receptionist and asked to get a hair cut. They paired me with Elaine and feel that since day one there, I leave so happy with how my hair turns out. I've had stylists who have told me that my hair is difficult to make perfect. It's thick, straight, uncolored, and long. Elaine is such a pro making my hair always feel so much lighter and makes it flow. That right-out-of-the-salon feel and omg-why-did-I-wait-so-long-for-this-cut. Nailed. Every. Time. Parking is easy. Street or in the back. Receptionists are always friendly and reference your phone number when you call in for appointments. They're also aware of your stylists ETA once you arrive. Beginning of the appointment starts with a consultation. Hair shampooed. Then the hair cut. 45mins-1hour flies with someone so sweet and who encourages your feed back. My hair is always blow dried and styled perfectly and I never feel like I'm getting pushed to buy the products at the salon. When I need a suggestion on products I always feel like I get sincere and honest answers. Always get walked to the front and the receptionist handles the bill and tip. Card or cash. So I went ahead and got a Brazilian blowout. .. I must say I was slightly reluctant. My hair is difficult to say the least. It no longer curls - it just tangles. After Jessica (who by the way is amazing) worked her magic my hair looked brilliant as always. I decided to wait until I washed and styled my hair to write this review. I pulled out the arsenal of hair brushes and clips expecting to get my usual upper body workout just so I could have decent dried hair. I was shocked. Plain and simple- SHOCKED. It dried in half the time and looked great. Next time I'm letting it air dry! If you have curly hair and want to make life easier, this is the answer! read more

I have been going to Michael Kelly's salon for years and years and travelled to different locations in Ventura and even Camarillo at one point just to have my hair done by some great stylists. I had the same one for a long time and she's been gone now unfortunately but every time I go now, I get someone new. I have never been disappointed by any stylist at Michael Kelly's. They are always very nice and friendly and always listen to what I would like to have done. They are pricey to be honest but you get what you pay for. I just got my hair cut by Kaylene today and she was awesome. So nice and she did a great job. I recommend this salon, you will not be disappointed! read more

Jen Rutledge @ Michael Kelley (The Vagina Designer) is fantastic! Waxing is not something most of us look forward to- its sticky, painful, and usually leaves you red and swollen. I went to Jen for eyebrows- she uses a cold wax that barely left any redness and tinted my white blond eyebrows just enough to make them visible. I found my new waxing gal, Colette! I called yesterday afternoon and the receptionist was so friendly and squeezed me in for a 9am appointment today, which was a surprise since it is Mother's Day weekend. This was a huge plus for me. As soon as I walked in to check in for my appointment I was offered a coffee and a comfortable chaise. Colette was right on time and very friendly, I have never loved my eyebrows as much after a wax as i do now! She shaped my brows to perfection, I like them very natural and every time i get them done at other places they butcher them to a thin pulp. My experience was pain free and i have absolutely not irritation or redness, which is also a first for my sensitive skin. I am super picky with my hair due to past horrible experiences. I heard great things about Morgan the hairstylist so I thought I'd give her a try. She was so friendly and easy going. Amazingly mature for her age. I told her what color I wanted more and less and she picked out a great color for my skin tone and features. I have been to so many different dressers and this by far, was the best cut and color I've ever had. She cut it perfectly to frame my face and styled it just as I wanted it. Hard to find a hair dresser that listens to what you want and it comes out perfect! I left feeling beautiful and confident. I highly recommend her, you won't be disappointed. I've been thinking about getting hair extensions for a long time. I had bleached and fried my hair so much that my hair kept breaking off and not growing past my shoulders. I head about Kelsey Massarell and so I made an appointment. Not only did she give my hair new sheen and life by the color she chose, the extensions were beautiful and so natural looking, all followed by a great haircut to get rid of all the dead ends and blend my hair beautifully with my new extensions. This took all under a couple of hours. Kelsey is quick, efficient and she is so stylish, she makes you look as good as her. People come up to me all the time telling me how great I look.
