I was looking through the plastic pumpkins outside the store this evening and right away, an employee was watching me from the glass doors as if I were to run with a few without paying. It's fine I get it, a lot of stuff has been happening throughout the US with people stealing. I went into the store and noticed the same sales associate following me around closely. I pay for my item and vow to never return! Unless that plastic pumpkin is worth $100 million, don't worry about me trying to steal a $9.99 pumpkin. Turns out, I got the wrong item. When I was told that I could not return something in store - receipt confirmed that I could - the very unhelpful manager was not only not helpful, but she was rude and condescending. After calling customer service as directed by Amber, the unhelpful and rude store manager, I was told that Amber was incorrect. We happened to be in the area taking care of some other chores so we stopped in for some acrylics. They had exactly what my daughter needed and the price was reasonable. Unfortunately getting and out of here was a pain, and fairly dangerous due to the parking lot and just entering off of Gilbert. As a result we would probably stop in if we happened to need something and were right here, but I doubt I'ld go out o my way to go to this particular location again when there are other less terrifying Michels locations to go to nearby. read more

Horrible experience, I went in because I needed fabric for a Christmas gift and Joann's is no longer. I get my fabric and push the button at the cutting station for someone to come cut the fabric. I pressed that button multiple times and still no one came. I was told by workers that someone was coming multiple times but after 20 minutes no one had came so I left without the fabric. Shopping at, and getting help at Michaels, regardless of the location, can range anywhere from frustrating to walking out with a smile. Often times, it is not the fault of the employees, but rather the corporation and the way they market and price things or stock a store based on local demographics which is why some stores have things others don't. Today, that was the case in the custom frame department. Working with Roxann, manager of Framing was a complete delight. She was friendly and extremely helpful and professional when purchasing just glass for existing pre-owned frames and exploring the cost of new custom frames. Though I take issues with manipulative sale pricing and deceptive advertising which both Roxann and Erica, Operations Manager, understood and agreed with my complaint, there is little to nothing they can do. I highly recommend asking for these individuals for the best service possible when visiting this store. which is why this store gets 5 stars. As for my complaint which I will be taking to corporate, evidently, the regular price you pay at Micheals for custom framing I am told is a discounted price of some amount by the manufacturer Michaels contracts with to build frames. When you use a coupon, lets say, as was the case today, 70% off, it is 70% off the un-discounted price by the manufacturer, not 70% off the normal price you would pay. The result is that with a 70% off coupon, you might only be getting only 25% off which is deceptive advertising. Next time you go to any Michaels for a custom frame, compare the non sale (discounted) price you would normally pay with price you pay with the coupon price. You likely will not see that full percentage of your coupon which is why they run 50%-70% coupons to sucker you in. But don't blame the employees, complain to corporate, esp. if you are a lawyer. They need to be hit hard for this practice. read more

$56 for helium filled balloons that didn't even last 8 hours with hi float. This would have never been the case if Party City was still open. I also had to stand there and listen to a girl talk to me about her situationship while blowing up my balloons. 21 balloons took an hour to fill. read more

This is a nice Michael's location with plenty of merchandise that is nicely organized. The store is clean and well managed. There's not a lot of clutter in the aisle-ways and I oh so appreciate that! This Michaels is great! Smaller than the other one in Chandler but also laid out very different so hard to find stuff sometimes. The staff is so nice. I didn't see alot of masks while being at this Michaels either so I didn't stay long, there's an issue with that at alot of stores lately I think people are getting comfortable again. read more

The main reason for the 5 stars is Catalina, one of this store's managers. I'd purchased an item (on a different day) that was on a high shelf and the box was too heavy for that manager to get down. She said she'd have another crew get it down the next day because she was short-handed when I was there. She was flustered and not problem-solving well. I don't remember her name. I came back in 2 days and no one knew what we were talking about! The previous manager had not marked the merchandise with my name or left any notes for anyone. I had the receipt and the manager working this time, Catalina, got it all worked out. She also got the item down from the high shelf, placed it on a cart and wheeled it out to the car! She was calm, cool and got the job done! Because of Catalina and her great customer service, I'll be back. read more

I want to give a shout out to Carol who works here. She walked around the store approaching customers to let them know the registers were having issues. She helped me with paints, then flowers and sealers... she is wonderful. I ended up coming back the following day because something was charged incorrectly on my receipt and lo and behold there she was again! She remembered me and assisted with correcting my receipts. Carol is friendly and kind...you're lucky to have her!! FYI - store was organized and clean. I only saw one stray 'Starbucks cup' in a shelf. No stray trash or misc glitter on the floors. This Michaels is clean and well organized and the staff is helpful. I was there the other day to look for some markers. They didn't have exactly what I wanted but the woman working there helped me look for things and I appreciated that. I make sure to take advantage of their 40% off one item coupons that come in the mail. That can really save a lot of money on specialty items that I just want now and then. This location is close to my work so sometimes I stop there on my lunch hour just to browse. I've also had good luck with their framing department. I was probably the first customer of the day, came in to buy last minute gingerbread houses and a few other items. There were no other customers and a lot of workers. I pulled out $100 bill for a $56 and some odd cents purchase. The girl takes it and then says, "I don't know if I have change for this". I'm puzzled because it's holiday time and stores typically have more cash and second, it wasn't a lot of dollars? So, after she is looking concerned I told her, I could just pay with a card but she says, "too late, I already entered it in the machine." She then calls a manager over. After calling twice, the manager Sara come sober and without eye contact or anything other than..."we don't have change and the banks are out of money, this is why (points to a sign) we have the sign up!". She grabs some $20s out of the backup and walks off. Now, the sign...it's a tad bit smaller than a 3rd of a piece of paper, white with black typing. I mean, with all the gazillions of signs, so sorry I missed it. Secondly, it says there is a shortage of "coins" and we would prefer debit, credit, etc. So, hmmm...says nothing about paper but coins specifically. I also did say, if it's a big deal I can pay with a card and the girl could have just cancelled the order and problem fixed. Lastly, I get people are extra during the holidays and not pleasant, I've worked retail, I get it. However, starting your day with a poopy attitude when a customer wasn't being unpleasant to begin with really just turned me off from this store. The manager is a bit of a rotten Grinch. After she stormed off I did apologize a few times to the girl but as I'm writing this I'm thinking why? This is the location I visit most often, and it's the best I've been to. The selection is huge, the store is clean, and the employees are generally friendly and helpful. I'm loving all the baking supplies they carry right now, especially the huge assortment of sprinkles available in small bags, and the new Sweet Sugarbelle cookie cutter line. Horrible customer service. Carol, the manager, lied straight to my face multiple times. I ordered something online and when I got the notification to pick it up, I went to the store. She told me the item wasn't in. I told her the inventory has always been accurate for me as I had purchased 5-6 things online for pickup in a one month period. She said the online inventory is wrong. I asked why it was showing available then. She then told me she canceled my order. I went towards the back of the store, located the item and asked for Carol so I could be checked out. She told me I had to repurchase it because she canceled the online item. So I did. Three weeks later and I have still not received a refund. While the store was a bit disheveled as we walked through it, they had some pretty awesome sales going on plus I was able to print a couple of good coupons online, so my savings were pretty fantastic. :) I usually like to walk through aisles and browse through items without having to step over piles of things or worry that item dangling from the top shelf will fall and injure me in some freak craft accident. However, the service I received both times I visited the store this week from the framing department was phenomenal! I am pretty bummed I didn't catch either of the staff member's names who assisted me as I would like to give them the proper shout-out. My spousal unit tried to find a cartridge for her CRICUT. She tried to choose several different ones but they were ALL sold out. Also it was very difficult to hunt someone down. It took about 45 minutes to find someone for assistance. The seriously need a better system. read more

I'm a pro-am pastry chef, taught scrapbooking classes, blow glass, make jewelry, paint, draw, knit, quilt, sew, decorate, and am basically just a creative chick. Oh - yea - I'm also a professional graphic designer, by trade.... So needless to say, I've frequented Michael's many a time. Tuesday, I went to this Michael's to purchase an airbrush. It was difficult to actually find someone that knew what they were actually selling - let alone if someone had keys to the "locked up" merchandise, but after hunting someone down I finally found someone who could assist. So, I found my airbrush -- to the lady to ring it up -- used a 40% off coupon (score) and the total (pre tax) was $97. After deciding I wanted a different airbrush, I gathered up my receipts and went to the store. After about 15 minutes, I asked the sales lady what was going on and she explained that "Company policy for the return on fine arts over one hundred dollars requires the general manager to be present and that she couldn't refund me my money." I asked her where that was posted and why that wasn't explained to me when I bought the airbrush - I also explained to her that the transaction, sans tax, was really only $97. She then apologized one more time, and then told me that they've had a lot of problems with fake receipts and that they weren't really sure if this was a real receipt, but if I could come back tomorrow.... No offer to take my name and number to have this resolved No offer to provide me with any other alternative than to come back to the store and talk to the general manger. When I called corporate this morning, they verified the receipt, called the store and then told me I could return it as they have validated that it was a legitimate purchase. I then called the store manager to find out if I needed her to be there for the return, and in her kindest and most trained voice she said, "NO honey, just bring it in.' I then tried to explain to her exactly what customer service is, how cost of poor quality affects the bottom line (even if the poor quality is subjective like customer service) , and how by not listening to the voice of the customer, not only has she done a disservice to that Michael's tore, but to the actual Michael's brand. And no lie, she laughed at me. So for all you crafty chicks out there, a new Hobby Lobby opened on Greenfield and Baseline (but they aren't open on Sundays). Arizona Art Supply is on Southern and McClintock for your fine arts needs. The fiber factory and tempe yarn are both in the east valley if you knit. Scrapology is on Lindsay and Chandler Boulevard if you scrapbook. If you prefer to make jewelry, then the best bead store in the world is on Priest and Southern (and it's not wholesale),if you are into soap and soap making I would suggest going to Sprouts. Frames are always a bargain at Target or Aaaron Brother's. For flower arrangements and bows, go to Joanne's. . If you like RC and models, there is a hobby shop on chandler boulevard and Gilbert, as well as Gilbert and baseline, and there is a pretty cool hobby store on Val vista and Elliot. And finally, as far as all the other kitschy stuff Michael's peddles, you can find it at the dollar store. The Dollar Store always has a ton of fun things to do - and there is a dollar store located at chandler boulevard and Val vista on the southwest corner. I have been running around town all day looking for one toy in particular for my little sisters birthday. I was only able to find it here. It was three minutes before they closed when I came in. I felt terrible doing that but who am I to deny an 8 year old of a squishy (the toy). I was still greeted with smiles and great customer service. I'm very dissatisfied with my trip to this specific location. Their coupon policy is inconsistent compared to other Michaels that share the same policies at their registers. Depending on who is the cashier, the policy is applied differently. We have gotten correct discounts on things on and off each visit. What is most concerning is that the manager on duty asked to follow us out the door so that she could half-assedly explain the reasoning for not giving us the discount that was posted in the store. Don't go here. Go to the Power and Ray location. Or any other location for that matter. Other Michaels are not as ridiculous as this place. And other Michaels certainly won't follow you out the door (like a shoplifter) in such a tacky and insulting way. read more
