For our Valentine's Day dinner this year, Candice and I returned to one of our longtime favorites, Michael's Gourmet Room at South Point. After yet another exceptional evening, we're reminded why this remains one of our favorite fine dining destinations in Las Vegas. From the moment you arrive, the level of hospitality is evident. The entire staff goes above and beyond to create a memorable experience, delivering the kind of attentive, personalized service that has become increasingly rare. A special shoutout to Vinny, who always keeps us entertained and adds an extra layer of warmth and personality to the evening. As always, we began with Michael's signature bread service and fresh vegetable platter, a classic start that never disappoints. For appetizers, Candice selected the Coquilles Saint-Jacques, which featured tender scallops prepared perfectly. The dish offered a delicate sweetness from the scallops balanced by a rich, buttery sauce that enhanced rather than overwhelmed the seafood. I chose the French onion soup, and it was outstanding. The broth was rich and deeply developed with a wonderful balance of savory beef notes and caramelized onion sweetness. The melted cheese and toasted bread provided the perfect texture contrast, creating a comforting and elegant version of this classic dish. Most importantly, it arrived at the perfect temperature--hot enough to enjoy fully without sacrificing the flavors. For our entrée, we shared the Chateaubriand, prepared and served tableside. The presentation alone is worth experiencing, but the flavor is what truly stands out. Cooked precisely to our requested temperature, the beef was exceptionally tender with a buttery texture that practically melted in your mouth. Each bite delivered rich beef flavor enhanced by the accompanying sauce without masking the quality of the meat. It was a masterclass in classic steakhouse preparation. And then there was dessert. Let's just say there was cake... cake... and more cake. The perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. Wife and I were lucky enough to be celebrating our 25th anniversary and when one has such a milestone to celebrate we naturally chose the OG special occasion dinner destination in Vegas - Michael's. We've lived in Vegas for 30 years and this is the third time we've celebrated here and [[HIGHLIGHT]]between the exceptional service, food quality and ambiance it's worth every penny.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Michael's is, in my opinion, the best old-school fine-dining establishment in town (the rest of the list being The Steakhouse at Circus Circus and Hugo's Cellar at the Four Queens) and highly recommended for a special meal. The first time we ate at Michael's it was still located at the Barbary Coast with the last two times being at the Southpoint. You wouldn't think the Southpoint would have this type of establishment tucked away down a side hallway (don't get me wrong - we love gambling there and it's one of our go-to casinos on a Saturday night) but when you enter that door you are immediately transported back in time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]No more loud slot machines or clouds of cigarette smoke; just a completely serene environment with oversized and overstuffed chairs and banquettes and tables with hand-sewn tablecloths.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So cool. You are doted-on by the service staff from the start - you quickly note there are runners constantly moving through the restaurant to fill water glasses, deliver bread and crudite trays and just generally taking care of everyone. Almost all of the food is prepared tableside in some manner - salads are hand-tossed, steaks receive a quick sear before plating and fish is deboned right in front of your eyes. As mentioned the food quality is excellent - large portions of high-end ingredients in every dish. We started with the crab cake, the house salad and the french onion soup - all were delicious with the soup being a real classic standout. The crab cake is loaded with lump crab meat barely being held together with any binder. For our entrees we shared the petite filet and the dover sole. One of the unique touches that I love about Michael's is that every entrée comes with a roasted tomato topped with cheesy breadcrumbs. It's so good. The fish and steak were both cooked perfectly and our side dishes (au gratin potatoes and green beans almandine) were the perfect accompaniment. We were marveling at the GIANT dessert cart being wheeled back and forth in the dining room and just had to grab a couple of to-go items and I'm so glad we did. The carrot cake was one of the best we've ever tasted and the key lime pie was a close second. They presented us with a piece of banana chocolate strawberry cake with a candle for our anniversary. Much appreciated! Dinner for two came to $471 before tax and tip (again, this is not an every-day restaurant!) but if you can swing those prices I cannot recommend it more highly as we enjoyed every minute of our experience. Came here with my parents to celebrate my birthday. It had such great ratings so we were excited to visit. The customer service is superb! Everyone was so friendly and attentive! They didn't have a cocktail menu, but shared they had a full bar. I asked if they had speciality cocktails, to which they recommended the Apple Martini and Michael's Lemonade. I got the martini, which was delicious and well balanced. For apps we ordered the crab cake, crab cocktail and the ceaser salad. The crab cocktail not only had an amazing presentation, but the lump crab was large! The crab cake I was not a fan of. It had a very interesting flavor that I could not put my finger on, so I asked the server what it was made with. Turns out it was bound with the cracker that comes when you first are seated. I personally did not care for the flavor. Though the portion size of the crabcake was great. The star of the show for majority of the meal was the Caesar salad! It's made table side from scratch, absolutely divine! For our mains, my dad got the Sea-bass, I ordered the filet, and my mom got the shrimp scampi. None of us truly enjoyed our dishes. The sea bass was kind of bland. The filet had to be one of the toughest pieces of meat I have had in a while, despite it being cooked a perfect medium rare/medium. My mom's shrimp scampi was overcooked, the shrimp were just a tad too rubbery. It says something when the salad is the star of the meal. I would say the second runner-up favorite thing we enjoyed was the ice cream with berries, whipped cream and cognac. That was a huge hit!! You can tell they make the whipped cream fresh. Getting a reservation at this premium, iconic restaurant isn't easy because of its immense popularity but a friend cracked the code and four of us had the pleasure of dining here. Let me start off by saying that [[HIGHLIGHT]]the atmosphere in Michael's is sophisticated and very old school.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is automatic and uniformly superb across drinks and food delivery. The food preparation and presentation was exceptional across our four different main course choices. One caution for prospective customers, the Michael's experience isn't cheap. Had a great experience at Michael's last night. We go once or twice a year for an only in Vegas type of energy. My lamb chops were perfectly cooked and tasty, the creamed corn was fresh and not too sweet. All of the extras are over the top from a Dom Perignone palate cleanse to chocolate covered strawberries. I was looking for a suitable site for a 35th Anniversary dinner, and Michael's appeared to fit the bill. By meal's end it was clear that the selection was very sound. Walking from the crowded and loud corridors of the South Point Casino through Michael's distinctive ornate door, and having it close behind me, was like entering a separate serene and classy environment. There are only about 15 tables and booths in the room, so it is advisable to make a reservation in advance. From the time we entered to the moment we left we received a bountiful feast of dishes--some ordered, and many not. We began with a complimentary large relish tray featuring quail eggs, olives, peppers, pickled cauliflower, tomatoes, gherkins, and more. Then about twenty large disks of Lavosh and a like number of Pumpernickel crisps with florets of butter were set before us. It was a great start, but I found myself holding back to save room for all that was still to come. Four shrimps sitting atop a lit ice bed were large and meaty, and I enjoyed mixing some horseradish into a classic Cocktail Sauce, as Diane addressed a hot appetizer of Coquille St. Jacques that featured scallops and Mashed Potatoes. She would have liked a few shrimps to have been tossed in the mix. A crock of Onion Soup Gratinee with oozing Provolone and Parmesan Cheeses, and well caramelized onions, was hot and superb. And my Spinach Salad with hot Vinegar Dressing, bacon and Red Onions laboriously prepared tableside was scrumptious. About this time I knocked a menu against my water glass. The glass left the table, pouring water and ice onto the floor and an adjoining chair, until the glass broke on the carpet. The area was quickly cleaned up by two assistant servers who were both nonjudgmental even though I knew the mishap was solely my fault. A palate cleanser of cold Lemon Sorbet was next up, followed by our entrees and sides. Diane enjoyed a large fillet of Sea Bass in Lemon Sauce with white Au Gratin Potatoes, while I addressed five large scallops of Veal Saltimbocca covered by Prosciutto, melted Cheese, and a Marsala-style Sauce, accompanied by French Green Beans Almondine. Already feeling full and looking forward to some dessert, I only finished two of the tender scallops of veal, but savored the remaining morsels two nights later at home. Before we could even see the dessert cart a large slice of decadent Chocolate and White Cake filled with a few cuts of banana and strawberries sporting a lit candle on top was brought before us. It was delicious. The dessert cart was then shown to us, stocked with great-looking sweet confections, but we of course passed on all of them. I only asked for some Vanilla Ice Cream to make the cake a la mode. This was cheerfully done, and I noted later that I was not charged for this. The dinner did not end then. For, a silver platter of several items of chocolate-covered fruit was placed before us, along with a large silver bowl of unopened fruit. The chocolate-covered fruits that I sampled were tasty, and so were the Green Grapes that I took out of the fruit bowl. As a final flourish, complimentary chocolate mints in gold foil were proffered but not eaten. Service was stellar and attentive throughout our two-hour dinner. The only downside is that I gained 5.2 pounds the next day, a record for me. Now I am in the process of working off the added weight. But the gluttonous experience was well worth it! read more

The ambiance is nice so intimate with the dim lights, and the interior decor and chairs are so old school vibe the center stained glass in the middle gives beauty and the beast vibes. Food was good steak was well cooked and seasoned, our escargot was good as well hoping it to be more salty and buttery the flaky break on top like a pot pie was something different for me but good combo. Immediately upon seating a tray of vegetables and assorted breads arrived. We ordered cocktails and Francisco insured us there was no hurry and to enjoy the evening. Our entrees were the Petit Filet Mignon, Sea Bass and we shared a baked potato. The 8 oz. filet was perfectly cooked as requested, well done and juicy and tender. The Sea Bass was a large filet and very delicious. The potato was super-size and more than enough for 2 people. We actually had some of the entrees and the potato for take home. We were also treated to a lemon sorbet pallid cleanser. Before even thinking about desert, a large piece of cake with a birthday candle arrived. We thought that was the finale but shortly thereafter a gift from chef arrived, a plate of fruits and chocolates. After another pause a large bowl of fruit appeared. This was a gastronomic dinner to be remembered. The high rating and equally high pricepoint for this steakhouse does set expectations ahead of time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You enter and the host checks you in, the door slips shut and everything becomes hushed and darkened.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The furniture with wide wingbacks and large booths are dressed in bright red velvet. It's giving vampire lair or possibly gangster mafia.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Yet, the staff heartily welcomes you with a large tray of pickled and fresh vegetable assortments accompanied by giant crackers, which are on the house (magic words that seem to sweeten the experience). Do not make my novice mistake and fill up on such a spread of appetizers. Because this is Vegas, and everything is bigger. Even the wine arrives in a generous pour, and your water glass is religiously filled. The Caesar salad is mixed tableside. The lamb comes plated at table side, where they warm up the large vegetables before serving in a basket-shaped hashbrown. The lamb is succulent, delicate, and filling. The mint jelly that accompanies the lamb is its own delight. Distantly, you might wonder how such a pairing could stand the test of time, but then dessert literally comes around and you've moved on too. Your choices are presented on a tiered cart, cakes and chocolates and sweets from all around the country. But the bananas foster for two sounds solid, and they also prepare this tableside as you watch. All in all, it is meant to be a feast. Just for a couple hours, you eat like royalty. Michael's, located with the South Point Casino, is an amazing dining experience. The atmosphere is intimate and up-scale. The service is prompt, attentive, and competent. And the food is wonderful. The menu comes in two versions: one includes the price and the other has no prices, in classic Vegas style. My Christmas wish and present was to have dinner at Michael's so we got a reservation on second Christmas Day. It was amazing. I removed my review from two years ago which was not good and I now have changed my opinion simply because I made better choices and the service was also better. We arrived ten minutes early and were seated asap. It's a nice experience as like you are royalty: you have 3 servers (one main, one assistant and second assistant / bidder). You immediately get water and a plate of all pickled vegetables and quail eggs. This with two types of crackers. I love the flowers of butter however would be great with bread. We ordered and the scampi diavolo came out fast which was heated at the table. Amazing sauce. The Caesar salad was next which is made from scratch at the table even the dressing is made right there. Amazing flavors!!! Recommended!!! Before the main the typically European palet cleanser of lemon sorbet came out which they topped off with moet Chandon. I love it, amazingly good. something common in Europe but rare here and very enjoyed! As main we got the veal saltimboca and sea bass. Both were amazing. Again, As a European I love leak which is so common with us and rare in the USA. Everything was excellent. I do not care for the tomato with breadcrumbs on at all, it's not good in my personal opinion. Super full but we got the tiramisu because I love it. However this place does not make it with mascarpone as that's the correct way. Everything else about it is on point: lady fingers, coffee and liqueurs however they use whipped cream on top. We had some drinks and were showered with the fruit basket and chocolate covered assortment and then some chocolate coins came with the check. It is super expensive but it's in the service and all the complimentary extras which makes it not unreasonable. Yes, you can get steaks as good at other high end steakhouses for less, but then you'd miss out on a superb dining experience that only Michael's and other 5 star restaurants can provide. The relish tray had what tasted like on premises.pickled cornichons, baby corn, cauliflower, mushrooms, oliives, peppers and some of the best baby beets I've had, along with fresh cucumbers and little quail eggs. Excellent! We ordered the Chateaubriand, a petite filet and a regular filet, with a Caesar salad for starters a side of gratined potatoes and a side of creamed corn. The Chateaubriand come with broccoli, asparagus,, baked, stuffed tomatoes and hash brown baskets of nixed vegetables. All steaks include the baked, stuffed tomatoes And alhough I previously said you can get as good a steak at other high end steakhouses. I think Michael's has the the best beef - bar none - of any restaurant I've been to. I think it's better than any Wagyu I've had, at least the chateaubriand my wife and I shared. Fantastic. You can spend $300 per person here, but it's worth it. They have Cherries Jubilee, Bananas Foster, Freed' cakes, including some proprietary flavors. Plan on a salad, entree, a couple of sides. I've been to Las Vegas many times. I've traveled a lot and eaten at many high end restaurants, even spent time working in the business in my younger days. That being said Michael's is at the top of the ladder. An Award Winning Fine Dining Restaurant period. It's been open in Vegas for 40 years although now off The Strip at the South Point Casino & Resort. Great story behind the family, specifically Michael who really put his heart into his namesake. Call asap as it could take months for that perfect weekend 7pm reservation. Located through an ornately decorated door in a blank wall near the casino with no windows at all. Seating for approx 50 guests in a gorgeous atmosphere of high backed chairs, an exquisite stained glass ceiling, in a quiet dining room. No diners allowed under 12 years old. This is a place to have a special event or a delicious meal without having a bother in the world.....contentment while dining. Business attire. Dinner can take a few hours with it's courses. Our party of four was given a crudites platter to get us started. We then had soups and Cesar salads. ( Cesars, de-boning of fish, and some desserts are prepared table side.) One of the best Cesars I have ever had. We had an array of appetizers.... The Coquille St. Jacques ( think a scallop souffle) and Sauteed Fresh Mushrooms à la Crème were very good. ( A LOT of cream sauce on those mushrooms) But the Baked Escargot ala Michael was superb. After the Apps came a complimentary course of lemon sorbet with mint & champagne to cleanse the palate. Perfect! Our array of Entrees were all large portions and cooked \ served simply the best way they could be. A meal fit for a king, a queen, and their court. --Double Rib Spring Lamb Chops -- Fresh Sea Bass Sauté, with Buttered Leeks and Dill -- Imported Fresh Dover Sole Meuniere All excellent and plentiful. There is a dessert cart. They prepare bananas foster & cherries jubilee table-side as well. We were given a complimentary bowl of fresh fruit as well. Also expect the very best in wines & spirits. THE best dining experience you will have! I have been coming to Michael's for well over a decade and I make it a point to share this restaurant with as many people that I know. It is so special. I love all the staff. Especially Russell is my favorite. I love him and he is the best. The food is outstanding. The service is impeccable. This was our first time at Michael's and it met all of our expectations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated promptly, the atmosphere is on the darker side with high backed chairs in the middle for a more private atmosphere and booths around the outside. Red velvet - small and intimate[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I haven't experienced this in a long time... the ladies menus had no prices and of course the men's did. We started with cocktails and wine (cocktails $30 each and wine by the glass - anywhere from $30 and up). They have a complimentary type of relish tray which had quail eggs, baby vegetables, marinated olives and a spread of some kind. They also had 2 types of bread. One couple split the shrimp appetizer (which was made tableside and they split for them), I had the crab cake ($35) which was one of the best crab cakes I have ever had. My husband had the snails (marginal). In between courses they served us a sherry glass full of sorbet and topped it off with Dom Perignon (nice). We shared a Chateaubriand ($200) which was served beautifully. The side of vegetables were some of the best I have ever eaten served in a "basket" of shredded potatoes. Another person had the sea bass ($98) and the other veal (there are a lot of veal choices). We also had au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach as sides. We ordered the dessert trolley which had a lot of tempting choices. We had creme brulee (not much you can do with that), cheesecake (excellent) and rum cake (excellent). The also brought a large fruit bowl out with grapes, apples, etc. All in all a great experience -- but be ready to pay the price (over 1K for 4 people without tip). Wow. Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was right on point. The restaurant brings you a pickled veggie platter and bread to start the night. We started with shrimp cocktail and onion soup. The shrimp cocktail presentation was amazing and the kitchen nicely split the soup we shared. We had the sea bass and the peppercorn sirloin as our entrees. We ordered au gratin and asparagus as our sides. Both entrees were melt in your mouth. We finished the night off with cherries jubilee, made at the table, and even though we were stuffed, couldn't stop eating it. And then complimentary chocolate covered fruit came our way. Amazing experience! We're seasoned servers on the strip and this place made me feel like we don't do enough at our own jobs lol .. As soon as there was a pepper stem on our plate, it was taken away with tongs. There was a moet Chandon sorbet palette cleanser between our appetizer and entree (which was so fresh you can taste the lemon peels). There was a finger bowl for us wash our fingers with at the end of our meal. Like, it all didn't feel real, the ambiance felt like we were on the titanic lol. The staff was all knowledgeable and polite; albeit I have ONE complaint. The (Filipino?) guy who greeted us literally said "ready for drinks?" without any greetings (like you're at McDonald's lol) and when I asked for a drink menu he kinda looked at me as if I should know they don't offer drink menus (he literally could've said we offer a wine list and also have a full bar but he didn't. First off, there is a dress code. Men must wear long pants. That being said, and after I borrowed a pair of track suit pants, everything was wonderful. One of best meals I have had and my wife and I have dined all over the world. In short, the Chateaubriand for two was superb. Perfectly prepared and plated with an abundance of vegetables. Sea bass was plentiful and cooked well. This particular filet was lacking typical flavor but still very nice. Salmon was more flavorful as you'd expect and we'll prepared too. Sorbet with champagne- a beautiful touch between courses. Chocolate covered strawberries, fruit basket, and chocolate mints to finish. No dessert needed! Lastly, ambiance was a bit quiet. Every time I frequent this restaurant, I am reminded of how great this special place is compared to all the other fine dining establishments. It is a classy place and hopefully not ruined by uncouth guests. Yes, the service is a rare 6 stars dining experience, especially for the value. The food quality is top notch. Some may find it bland because of their basic seasoning, but I find that I can actually taste the quality of each dish. A one in a million dining experience. An absolute must when in Vegas. Located inside of the South Point Hotel & Casino. Reservations a must. Bring your appetite or better yet, do not eat before hand. The minute you get seated by the Maître d, the servers immediately bring out cracker, bread, a huge platter of hors d'oeuvres & water. The wine list is lovely! We started w/ their famous tableside Caesar Salad, made w/ egg yolk & anchovies. The proper way & full of flavor. Afterwards, a palate cleanser of sorbet servers in fancy crystal & topped off w/ Dom Perignon compliments of the chef. Our main course was phenomenal & all sautéed tableside. The Seabass & Salmom were cooked to perfection & very tasty. The Lamb Chops were thick & juicy. The best we've ever had, served w/ mint jelly in a cored out pear. Presentation of everything was A+. Better than any Michelin restaurant. Our sides were Hollandaise over Asparagus & Potato Au Gratin. Delish! The dessert cart came out & we ordered the decadent Tiramisu. Thickest Lady Fingers I've ever seen crusted the entire dessert. We were completely full, but not one morsel of food was left. As we thought 'check' they brought us out another smorgasbord of fruit & chocolate covered fruit. We enjoyed it w/ an espresso & boxed everything left from the hors d'oeuvres & fruit up as it would go to waste due to Covid.
