I just left Michael's Store in Irvine, Woodbridge Plaza. I was Assisted voluntarily at the register by their associate, Lena. Lena kindly offered me (!!!) to actually help me check out so I would not have to use the automated system there. I thanked her for the personal touch. She was wonderful, kind and very bubbly. While we were going through the process, a very rude customer came up and interrupted our transaction - twice... this rude customer was not just rude directly to Lena - but exceedingly condescending to her as well. Lena VERY professionally maintained her cool and addressed that customer appropriately - while continuing to work with me. I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYBODY THAT RUDE IN MY LIFE. This 'lady' was so catastrophically beyond off the chart she should be in an institution as she appeared very dangerous and unhinged. After Lena check me out and I was getting ready to head out, I felt bad that Lena had been so abused and bullied. I turned directly to that rude person and told her exactly what I thought of her rudeness and condescending entitled BS.. Of course, things did not go well - nor did I expect them to as I am accustomed to ADDRESS such rude, bullying & grievously, abusive people (there is no excuse for her type of behavior - ever!). This ultra-entitled foreigner was a horrible person overall. Lena elegantly worked to deflate the situation and did a great job. Lena deserves five gold stars AND deserves acknowledgment by Michael's for being the most professional staff member I have met IN ANY retail operation. Thank you, dear Lena! My bf was buying two frames I needed for a Christmas present. They both had to be custom made due to their size. He said a young man, an art student I think was helping him and was really good. He had to go to lunch when I arrived. Sabrina took over. She was the ultimate professional! I had a time trying to decide on the color of the mat and what size frame. At no time did she seem frustrated with my indecisiveness. She was friendly, offered suggestions and let us know about discounts we would be eligible for. We saved 20% which really helps, especially this time of year. We feel it was a good value for both of the frames we purchased. They assured me that they only release a package with a valid id, but nobody with my id picked it up, and the signature is not mine. I just finished shopping at the Michaels at the Woodbury area. I had to make an exchange and use my rewards points with additional coupons. An employee named Guilles was so kind and helpful to me. Hi Michaels, I visited your location yesterday and I tried to use my code received by email it shows not valid because it is issue on 9/2 it is expired and I forgot my wallet this day. The employee offer help for scanning but not proceed the code. I think its a good idea to proceeding the code since it is remain in the same month right! Over the years, the service level has definitely dropped. Now the workers are often like Walmart workers, avoiding eye contact in an effort not to assist you when you need help the most. Sometimes we'll get those who are really interested in helping, but that is actually fairly rare these days. We've also utilize the online order option, and despite always getting the notification, we rarely find it actually placed in the bin as it should be despite our after notification. Also due to their holiday delays, we've even attempted to bring the item that we needed to purchase to the counter to close out the sale and while sometimes they allow us to complete the transaction, other times they do not. I have long lasting fond memories of Michael's and I really do try to give them my business, especially because I don't agree with a lot of the philosophy of Hobby lobby, but sometimes it seems so hard to give them my business. They speak to people like they are on this higher level that I just don't understand. Almost every time I have been in there the associates have made mistakes and have to apologize. If there was a way to give a lower star than 1, i would. I had the most awful experience picking up a UPS package at this michaels location. Store # 1317. The store manager Milo had the worst attitude and customer service skills when trying to explain the Michaels and UPS pickup policy. Avoid this store if possible. Want to see what we went through? Try this yourself and you'll know exactly when im feeling: Go to this store while utilizing the UPS access point and ask "Milo" the store manager about the UPS and Michaels pickup policy. (Once you go through these steps, youll unlock an easter egg that sets off the store manager's temper.) Watch as Milo's eyes lights up & widen, then have the most unprofessional power trip about how they know the policy and they will enforce it, but when asked to show the policy, they will state: "you can look it up yourself, thats the Michael's policy." When asked for assistance locating the policy online, the response will be "im not a professional at michaels.com, you can look that up yourself. But that is the store policy." I don't understand someone who has such poor temper and customer service skills is a manager at this establishment. I've raised several complaints to 1-800-Michael. I almost forgot for a moment why I never step foot in a Michael's store. I had to go in to get a UPS package that was dropped off by UPS. There was a UPS store right next to them but for some reason the drop off is at Michael's. I am a regular at UPS and I pick up all my packages and ship them there. so I went to Michael's and I was told to wait in the back of the store next to these two black doors. No one came and I went and found someone named Sabina. I handed her the slip and she told me she would need my license before she could give me the package. I understood and went back to my car to get my license because most men don't have a purse to carry everything. I came back in the store with my license and this time when I handed her the slip, she told me that it was not going to be available until tomorrow. I asked her if she could've let me know that the first time before I went back to the car, and she just ignored me and continued to look down. Absolute nightmare service I will never step foot back in that store, and I will require UPS to make future deliveries directly to my home. DO NOT GO HERE FOR BALLOONS!! Party City in our area closed, so Michael's started a balloon service. I arrived with balloons for my sons 8th birthday party. Asked how this new process works, the woman helping me said she'd get to them right away...easy as that. Except I waited an hour and she hadn't even started. Then she advised me it would be better to come back another day, that way the balloons would last longer. So I scheduled a pickup at 11am the day of my sons party, which started at 1pm. I showed up at 11:30am to pick the balloons up, they hadn't even started airing them up yet. After much frustration and some attitude from the store manager that "they were only one person" (there were 3 people behind the counter, 2 were airing up balloons, so im not sure what she meant by "one person"), they finally started my order at 11:45am. This is a great location that always has what I'm looking for. There aren't that many staff members around, but their selection is well stocked and organized, they have everything I am looking for, so I've never found that to be a problem. Their check out system is self-check out, so you can literally walk in and out of here without interacting with anyone at all. So perfect when I'm on a work call and need to run in to grab something for my kid's school project. Oh, and I always use the app and the weekly coupons to get a good deal :) read more

The 1 star is a gift. Today, I placed an online order for balloons between two stores because neither store had all the balloons I needed. After placing the order, I called the first store and asked if they could have the balloons ready first thing in the morning. This store was so polite and helpful. Then I tried doing the same with the Irvine store. Over a 35-minute time span, I tried calling 7 times with no answer, so I called the other store back to see if they had an internal number to call the store. They tried calling that store with and internal number while I waited on hold. No one ever answered for them as well. The person I was speaking with said this wasn't unusual for this store to not answer the phone. In my opinion it's time for a shake up starting at the management level on down. This is one of the smaller locations, so they don't have as much inventory. I went to buy a latch hook kit, and they don't carry them. The store itself seems a bit dreary and warehouse like. Probably because it's not bright and white like other Michael's stores. But more importantly, it's nearly impossible to find someone to help you. Everyone is busy on the registers, and you have to circle the store to try to find someone. Amazing how many people seem to be cleaning out the shelves of dye for tie-dye and upcycling projects during this time. When Jo-Ann's in Irvine didn't have the Rit Dye I wanted in stock (despite the site saying otherwise), I checked Michael's online to see what they had in stock. This location had the red dye and the color stay fixative I wanted and offered free in-store pickup. I placed my order online and got several texts and e-mails when my order was received, when it was being packed, and when it was ready for pickup. It is in the same plaza as The Home Depot and Trader Joe's. Parking was very hard to find on Sunday early afternoon and often people are driving faster than they should or they back out quickly without warning. Definitely drive slowly and be careful to avoid an accident. I did find a spot with a short walking distance. During this time, they have a line outside the store with taped areas to indicate the 2M/6FT distance between people. Some patrons ignored that, despite wearing masks. They were letting in a few people at a time, which makes sense why the line was long outside. I do wish they had clear or more visible signs to indicate where the curbside and in-store pickups can go, versus those who wish to browse. I waited in line for about 2 minutes when I saw the sign taped to an info booth with a small button you press to get attention. I stepped out of the line and pressed it. The guy working the booth asked for the last 4 digits of my order number and told me to wait. He radioed someone inside and I waited with another customer. It took about 3 more minutes, then a girl came out with two bags. The guy asked if she got my order as she was passing over the other customer's order. She held up my bag and told me to have a good day. The dye bottles were in a plastic bag with the receipt. Everything looked to be in order. The girl who gave my order was pleasant and she was working hard. The guy at the booth seemed either worn or out of it - I thought he was a little rude to his co-worker when asking if she grabbed my order too. Overall I'm pleased with Michaels and their online ordering process. As for this location, I may pass on coming back. read more

I bought several beads the price on the shelf was lower but when I went to register I paid more than the price of advertising on shelves minus 50% which ended up being more. You need to pay attention to prices on shelves and what you are paying at the cash register. Took about 40 minutes and 2 trips to get some extra money back. False advertising is illegal. read more

This Michaels seems smaller to me. Like another Yelper said, maybe its just perspective... it seems to be just a rectangular shaped space. Everything is very clean... I always get lost in Michaels. Always. I was looking for Sharpie paint pens, which seemed to be a few different places in the store, which is confusing to me. I was also looking for paint brushes, rocks, modge podge, and acrylic paint. I found everything without asking except the modge podge. Probably could have if I knew what it looked like. Halloween decorations are already starting to arrive, and take up about a good 1/4 of the store so far. I had to force myself to bypass the area. This Michael's location has all of the great standard product but is the smaller side so they run low on inventory. Regardless, it's still has the great staff and product. Michels is my strongest arguments for keeping retail stores around. There is a feeling you get when you walk into Michaels that online cannot mimic. Here on a Saturday afternoon for a Michaels class. Slime! The kids are in heaven. This event is free today and they are super stoked to have the room pretty empty and to themselves. This Michaels is a pretty big store and is neat and tidy. The room is pretty spacious (bigger than Tustin location). They do lots of programs during school holidays and summer.
