DO NOT RECOMMEND this place at all.. Been here twice and both times the experiences were just trash really. The first time: the prices were completely wrong, they lie to you about the base price and then they also tell you that you're going to get tartar sauce and ranch and Mount vinegar free with your order. Turns out you don't any charges for all of it. You pay a dollar for a big tartar sauce. That's probably only 1/4 full? He says he makes it himself and it's pretty obvious that he does because it's absolutely disgusting. Walmart brand tartar sauce is a thousand times better. The ranch comes in a thimble sized container that literally only covers three fries and they charge you for that. The malt vinegar, which I don't even know how you screw that up. He must have made himself too because it was absolutely disgusting and ruining the flavor of the meal. The fish was big but way way. Way too much oil to wear. It was almost that shiny translucent color and just tasted like oil. The fries tasted like oil too and they didn't put salt. 2nd time: I never usually judge a place by just one time unless it was absolutely absolutely absolutely miserable. Well now I know I can give the right review. This time I came prepared, brought my own tartar sauce, my own ranch, and my own malt vinegar. I asked them for it to not be cooked as long in the oil cuz last time it was so greasy and fried it tasted horrible. He said he would do it, and I don't know exactly what he did but not only when the fish came out. Was it completely different size from the first one? Like almost like he ran out and went to the Dollar tree in the same shopping center and bought the fish fillets there. They were extremely soggy and it's like he barely cooked them and then he dunked them one last time in the oil. It was just all wet. The fries came out completely limp and soggy with no salt on them whatsoever. I could have asked to just have them fried more but I just decided to deal with it because once I saw how crappy that fish looked and it was obviously store bought. I didn't even eat at the store at that point. I just asked for it to go bag and I mentioned the fish was store-bought and completely different from the other one and he decided to make up for it by giving me a cream cheese wonton that had like no cheese in it So yeah for the price that you pay and for what you get.. save your money. read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk in but they have great food at great prices. All the food is made fresh when you order. The fish is nicely portioned and crispy when it comes out. I'd rather go here than Gordon Ramsey's fish and chips. The tartar sauce is huge for only .50 cents I dunno what people are complaining about lol. If you're really hurting on .50 cents for sauce for a meal less than 10 bucks just stay home. read more

Service: really great guy taking my order, actually seems thrilled to see me walk in. Fired up the deep fryer and made my fish n chips fresh and quickly. 5 stars. Fish: thick coating of batter which was fried crispy on the outside but soft and spongy on the inside. Smallish portions, definitely not the traditional cod, when I asked I was told it's whitefish. Just okay, 2.5 stars. Fries: 2 stars meh. Tartar Sauce: Tasted like somebody took miracle whip and mixed in pickle relish. And he has the nerve to charge extra for this goop?? 2 stars. Inside: a small dive, didn't seem overly dirty but clearly better to order one's food to go. I frequently enjoy hole-in-the-wall places, so this isn't a negative for me, but said dive MUST serve better-than-average food or no repeat visit. We stumbled on this little place the other day and figured we'd give it a shot. My husband got the fish and chips. He said it was okay, but he said everything had the same oily taste. Had to pay extra for tartar sauce which definitely wasn't worth the .50. I tried the orange chicken. It was battered, fried chicken fat. Terrible. I ate two pieces and couldn't eat any more. My husband tried it and agreed with me. Just terrible. The cream cheese wontons were very good. I'm kicking in an extra star for them. My son and I went there for dinner and wanted to try some fish and chips. While there we ordered a three piece meal, an order of clam strips and orange chicken with the fried rice. The fish was OK nothing special and was not breaded with tempura like we like so no big deal but the fries were soggy which is kind of strange as we waited to dine in. The orange chicken with fried rice was the worst my son and I ever had, there weren't any chicken in the battered and very few pieces with a peachy like sauce that didn't come close to orange. Then came the clam strips which again a lot of battered and mostly burnt. I always give these mom and pop places a chance but this isn't one of it. read more

It seems like this little hole in the wall has been here forever because I remember coming here like 12 years ago......Michael's Kitchen it was, and it still is...even the signs on the window and the furniture, counter and display cases are still as it was...we wanted lunch and yes, the guy behind the counter welcomed us in and is probably very happy to see a customer. The lovely missus ordered the two fish on a plate with chips (French fries). I was hesitating cause I wanted to explore his Chinese foods menu on the wall. Well, this guy didn't give me much of a chance so I got two fish on a plate of fried rice with Cole slaw and the tartare sauce he was pushing. He also got me to order a side of fried zucchini. With two drinks this came just shy of a twenty!..the fish, although not a super size, was fine because of the good batter. Probably same batter is used on the zucchini because it was aok, just not enough pieces, we got 4 pieces. I would not order the fried rice again, I ate it after mixing it up with the Cole slaw to give it a palatable taste. Well, I don't like to give so so reviews as I know this owner most likely is working his tail off to pay the lease. Not that good. Most of what we ordered was strangely flavored. The only good things were fried. The fried shrimp and fried chicken strips were both decent. Even the cheese won tons weren't good. Michaels is one of those places that if you're from the area you know has been around for a very long time, but you may never have stopped in. That was the case for me.Actually I have stopped in before,but I think it was still an H Salt fish and chips location at the time. Anyway I digress. Michael's fish and chips is a very plain little place in a large Strip Center. The man behind the counter, who I assumed was not named Michael, was very friendly. I ordered the 3-piece fish and chips and a can soda. The total came up to $11 and change. I watched him as he hand-battered the fish. I didn't ask what kind but I assumed it was cod. We talked as the fish and chips were frying. He told me he uses only peanut oil which I know is a excellent oil for frying, and cooks at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. I took my order to go and was a little surprised that I had to pay $0.50 for tartar sauce oh, but what the heck he's a small businessman, at least packets of malt vinegar were free. As I walked out I realized I had forgotten to ask for ketchup but seeing that the cook had disappeared to a spot behind the counter I decided to walk into the Del Taco next door and pretend I forgot to get ketchup for my drive-thru order. It always works. I drove to a nearby shaded spot to enjoy my lunch. The fish and chips were good at best but nothing to really write home about. The texture of the batter was more like that of a corn dog then I was expecting and the fries although golden brown didn't really seem to have that crispiness I was looking for. The bottom line is if you have a real Jones for fish and chips are in the in the area it's worth a try but I'm not making a second visit read more

I usually go to Alaskan fish and chips on Westminster blvd (formerly H Salt) but came here after visiting grocery warehouse. the fish and chips were ok. portion was about 10% smaller. there are not a lot of chippies in the area so this place suffices. they also have Chinese food. owner is nice. one positive is that after eating at h salt I get overwhelmed by the oil intake. The. Best. Fish and chips. Ever. I really cannot explain it...I've been to so many overpriced places that aren't even half as good as this. A small, cute little shop that has a man that truly cares about his customers. The way that the fish is cooked is so wonderful because of how well the tartar sauce compliments the fresh crunchy outside of the fish. I also love love love the clam chowder here. I agree with the other reviewer. Everything costs extra. So we pretty much go the fish and chips and that's it. Tartar sauce was extra (WTF). I think it would do well for them if they gave the sauce free cuz it would enhance the taste of the fish hence making ppl enjoy the food more hence the returning customers. The fish, however, was great. The outside was crispy and the inside melted in your mouth. Prices are kind of high, probably to even out the nights where they get little business. Omg! The reviews for this place from others are pretty harsh. They're a small hole in the wall place but have awesome food!!! It needs an update but very well kept and clean. Who cares if sodas are sold in a can. It comes with Ice in a cup. That's all that matters. Great food, excellent service! Best fish and chips around town. I agree with Sherrill. It was late and my husband and I were the only ones in the place. We placed our fish and chips order and the guy turned on his stove to fry the battered fish. It wasn't greasy or soggy or overcooked. It was freshly fried batter that was still tasty when we got home. Drinks are soda cans. Fish and chips sign caught my attention, so decided to stop by and have lunch with my kids. I ordered the special, which included 1x fish x1 shrimp 2x scallops 1x zucchini and fries. The fish and zucchini were great! Too bad i cant say the same for the rest. The scallops tasted very fishy, the shrimp had no flavor and the fried were just over cooked. My kids ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl, let's just say that they just ate the white rice. So if your looking for good fish and chips, this is a good stop. I should've been wary of a $3 special... but I was lazy and didn't want to drive anywhere so I ordered up. It was ok... a little below average I think. I've been driving by this place for years and always say I'm going to try it out... I finally did and I'm beyond happy and wish I would have a long time ago. The dude working the counter is very happy. You walk in, he immediately greets you in an upbeat way. The fish and chips is obviously the go-to thing here. Hands down, best fish and chips I've had in... well... ever! They also make their own tarter sauce. Heaven in my mouth. Doing a cheat dinner and picking up the "bucket" of 15 fish and chips combo with coleslaw and a side of zucchini slices, no one will be disappointed. The coleslaw is so good! When they say zucchini, don't expect spears. They're 4 large zucchini coins pretty much. Good nonetheless and goes out-of-this-world well with the tarter sauce. Top this bomb ass fish with some sriracha and you'll never know what you've been doing with your life. Reel me in because I'm hooked! read more

When you're in the mood for some good 'ole fish & chips, this is the place to go! Every time I've ordered the fish it is very crispy and fresh. The owner is so friendly and always very enthusiastic when you come in, you can tell he is very gratefully for his customers. He cooks to order, so expect to sit down and wait a few minutes for your food, but I believe you can call it in if you're in a rush. Absolutely the best fried fish I've ever had. The meat to batter ratio was great, the fish was quite large, not very oily, and the temperature was spot on. Warm enough to hold, but still hot on the inside. I found the tartar sauce to be tasty, but one of the more mayo-strong ones out there. The chips/fries were crispy, but bland. I'm not sure if that's by design or not to encourage dipping in ketchup, tartar, or vinegar. The coleslaw was fresh and delicious as well. The downside: This place gets expensive fast and I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but they asked if I wanted coleslaw and rang me up for a regular size without asking what size I wanted (a small would have been fine for just me) and charged $0.50 for the tartar sauce. So basically don't presume anything is included. The owner/manager(?) is energetic and nice, but finding out my total went from $5 to $8.50 at the register without much of a head's up annoyed me a little. Definitely try the place, but be prepared to spend closer to $10 than $5 read more

My girlfriend has been coming here since she was little and introduced me to this place. I love the fish and chips they are really good the batter they use is delicious. I have never gotten "food poisoning" from this place. The guy is so nice and friendly it makes this place that much better. Haven't tried the Chinese food so I can't say anything about that, but if your craving so good homemade like fish chips this is the place to go. read more

I am a pretty regular customer and that's for a reason, this place is great. The owner works very hard and is super cheerful and happy, he remembers all of his customers. Seeing his smile will instantly brighten your day, the best service anyone could ask for. The food is amazing, it's filling and delicious and even though it's fried it isn't heavy. The food sits well and does not leave you with an upset stomach like most fried and greasy food. Overall this place is amazing. Would highly recommend you check it out. read more

Find somewhere else for your fish & chip fix. I happened to be coming out of Harbor Frieght and I remembered seeing the fish & chip place next door. Sounded ok for a late lunch. Mistake. The big sign in the front window advertised 3 piece fish & chips for $6.38. I ordered for eat in. Tarter sauce is extra! Also, the cole slaw was extra. I didn't order a canned soda. TOTAL = $10.26!! I didn't bother to argue about the price. The fish was precut, because they were exactly the same size. Thin slices of fish for each portion. My fries were a small portion of leftover ends. None was longer than about 1/2 inch. Chewy, not crisp. I'll give it a 2 because the fish was edible, but not good. read more
