I've seen reviews and heard about MVG from several people over the years. We were hesitant to try it because it HAD been around so long, we thought it would be dated. How wrong we were. WOW. What a beautiful, clean and modern space. The other nice part is it still has an drop ceiling so you can hear everything! The hostess was so nice and the bar seemed full of locals on a Friday evening. We were seated in the dining room (that has real cloth tablecloths!) and greeted by our waiter. Menu was extensive and they also had specials. Drinks were well pored and arrived quickly. We had mussels to start and they were delicious, presented in a saffron broth with pancetta. For our main courses, we went with a wedge salad and lamb lollypops for my husband. HE LOVES lamb lollypops and really enjoyed these. Four of a good size and grilled to perfection. I had a steak salad that was very large and very tasty. The service was outstanding and we will be going again and again. So glad we tried it! read more

We dined here on the recommendation of friends. The wait staff was excellent and attentive. My cocktail was perfect. Thank you. The menu is lacking in vegetarian choices so we settled for seafood. As recommended by our server we shared the delicious beet salad. I chose the stuffed shrimp wrapped in prosciutto. I was totally taken back when the shrimp were presented with their tail shells still on. Just picture me in a fine dining restaurant pulling off tail shells with my fingers!! Come on, chef!! I found the prosciutto as thick as a slice of ham and horribly overcooked to the point of my jaw hurting because of so much chewing! The rice pilaf was a very flavorful risotto. We just had dinner here. Food was fine. Server was amazing. Neighboring table was treating server terribly and we spoke up for her kindly. Server thanked us. An hour later after we paid our bill, we went to the bar and were surprisingly approached by the owner who kicked us out. He said we shouldn't have spoke to his customers. They owe us a huge apology. Michael's provides ordinary fare at extraordinary prices. The "chef" makes his rounds of the restaurant tables dressed in all of his chef regalia. This is supposed to add value to your menu selection. It does not. At the end of the night you have paid twice for the same or better available at another restaurant. Been a customer of Michael's for over 20 years! Food is always fantastic BUT since the new ownership, it's fallen off quite a bit! Very noisy bar with bartender carrying on with guys with ballcaps on backwards; had to ask for a menu and a waiter; waiter didn't describe the appetizer I ordered which happened to be quite spicy; waiter did not come back to ask if I wanted coffee or dessert or anything else! Needless to say, no tip here! Glad that Michael and Priscilla are enjoying their retirement . . . I won't be back to Michael's again . . . read more

Our food was great, w the exception of my wife's filet being cooked a little oddly- but our server noticed before we said anything, and offered to have it redone. First time here, we've driven by and it's tucked away in a quiet little plaza. Greeted and seated promptly. Adam our waiter took our drink orders and promptly seated us. BF got his usual cranberry and vodka, I chose a pomegranate martini from their specialty drink list. Drinks arrived promptly and were delicious! Mine tasted like candy and went down way too easily. Adam was on it and had another one for me really got away. Nice decor, low lighting (but enough to read the menu) and an overall pleasant atmosphere. Warm bread was served with a roasted red pepper spread which was delicious and I'm hoping a bit healthier than butter (I love butter though). Dinner was delicious! BF got the cowboy steak (coffee rub did NOT taste like coffee; was spicy, not hot, and flavorful) and. Had the flatiron stead salad. Both of us cleaned our plates and shared dessert. Such a great spot - I come back again and again. On family night out everyone always begs to come to Michael's. And date night- same deal. Staff is friendly and attentive, vibe is classy but not stuffy and always well-priced, and while I have a soft spot in my heart for that classic chicken French, my eye is often turned by the thoughtful and mouth-watering specials. Michael's has been around for years and on the few occasions that I've gone it's never been a disappointment for me. Located in the "strip mall" on Penfield Road (between Linden Ave. and 441) the location at times can be somewhat of a pain since you can only go one way on that part of the street (hence the 4-Stars) but when talking about the quality of food and service- this restaurant is sure not to been of any disappointment! Their food always seems to have a homemade vibe with a touch of sophistication and elegance- which also shows the time, effort and detail that goes into making each and every meal. I've enjoyed their broiled haddock, which is served with Panko breadcrumbs on top and a light lemony taste- simply delicious! I've also had the steak and seafood special; which was a petite filet and shrimp special, delicious as well. The service is top notch and the decor and lighting inside is beautiful. You'll feel at home as soon as you walk in. The menu prices can be a little more expensive, but for a nice night out it is worth every penny spent. If your planning a nice night out I'd suggest making a reservation at Michael's and giving them a try! read more

I'd prefer to give it zero stars. What a terrible experience. We arrived and they wanted to sit us at a table the size of a jigsaw puzzle. I said we'd like to sit @ booth, since it was empty anyways. It was a Monday and a loved ones' birthday. Everything is " ala carte". The bread/water girl brought us "bread" which was more like croutoned bread. You could hammer a nail with it. And instead of butter, we got chunky tomato sauce. I asked for butter and the butter must have been where the salad dish was (keep reading) I asked the waiter for 2 sodas. I do this because in most restaurants they fill the glass up with ice, so you're actually getting 1/4 glass of soda. I also want to save them time and a trip for my 2nd soda. For whatever reason, he only brought me 1 soda, which was filled with ice. Out comes my salad. The plate was taken out of their freezer. I have never in my life had an ice cold salad bowl. I tried warming the plate with some heat. It didn't help. The salad and dressing was good though. As an appetizer, they brought out cauliflower dipped in ritz crackers with a buffalo wings sauce, It was delicious. The issue was both the bread girl and waiter kept wanting to take it away and wrap it up several times. I finally said "For crying out loud, leave our appetizer alone. You guys keep trying to take it away. At the end of my meal I will let you know if I want it wrapped." I asked bread girl for another soda. She said "I can't do that". If I was a bread girl not allowed to get someone a soda, I'd say "I'll let the waiter know." The waiter said they had a vegetarian dish with vegetables over pasta. Waow. It was like onion soup. I had to literally strain about a cup of water into another little plate, then I had to pick out about a bag of onions from my dish and put them with the strained pasta water. It was my friends birthday, so as a surprise they brought her a little bowl of those Hostess brand little donuts you get from a machine or a 7-11. They were cinnamon sugar. I said "are we having breakfast now?" I usually am the best tipper around. I can prove this. The bill was for $73 dollars and some cents. I left $75 and we left. The waiter came out and rudely asked if I wanted my change back. What a class act. I said "No, you earned it" and left. I will eat food thrown on the road and run over by a car before I ever eat there again. I'm curious if there's been a change of management/ownership. read more

This place is was such an amazing surprise. My wife and I were out at Home Depot with our son. We were planning on going back to Webster to eat but decided to pull up yelp and see if there was anything in the area that caught the eye. Michaels Valley Grill popped up and the reviews were positive. I gave them a call to see if we could be seated, it was 5:20 on a Friday so I knew the chances were slim. Hostess said they she could if we could be there by 5:30. We were then in minutes and this place just continued to impress and surprise. Michaels Valley Grill in in this little strip mall but the outside is very cute but the inside decor blew us away. It was so cute and friendly. Tons of natural light and the staff was super friendly when we walked in. My wife started wit ha house salad and I had a cup of clam chowder. It was amazing. My wife's main course was the panko crusted Romano and mine was a special, fillet with three grilled stuffed shrimp and a side. Both were amazing. This place was a total last minute spur of the moment decision. We had no clue this place existed but now that we know it does it will be on our regular rotation for date night. Went there on Thursday evening w a party of 3! Food was great but was literally shocked at the price of two glasses of wine for $40.00! One was a name brand (Kendall Jackson Chardonnay) and one was the house brand of Merlot. That was very excessive at $20.00 per glass for a 6 Oz pour! This restaurant is nice but they are charging NYC prices for a glass of wine! Michael & Priscilla (former owners) never charged those prices for wine! These new owners are greedy! read more

Super underrated restaurant in the Rochester area. I would argue that they have top 3 or 4 best steaks in the area. Cool and fun vibe in the restaurant, and a fun bar with quality drinks.
