I'm so disappointed in my experience with Michael's . I brought in my needlepoint artwork that I spent months on to be framed. I paid them 180.00 up front. I went to pick it up and it's gone. Disappeared Hours and hours of needlepointing and that's it. It's gone. I am getting a refund. I'm writing this so people are aware that they are irresponsible with your treasured artwork read more

I used to avoid this Michael's because of lack of customer service when you could find it. I expected the same shitty service that I have experienced many times in the past but was happily surprised with Michael's this time around. This Halloween season (2013) I needed fabric paint and fabric brushes. I called ahead of time to ask if they had the items I needed and the lady on the other end was friendly and very polite. She let me know that they had my items in-store before I made the trek in. While at the store after but a few minutes a sales woman noticed me wandering about and guided me to the correct aisle. Not only did I get what I needed, I ended up saving myself a trip to another store when I came across black v-neck tee's ($2.99) and long sleeves ($2.99) that were well priced for the same project. Checking out use to be a process, never enough cashiers and they'd leave there posts at the busiest of times, never made sense to me. Ladies in line would usually get fussy and I always hated getting stuck in that scenario. This visit was entirely different, there were two cashiers- they were fast, efficient and super friendly doing so. I departed Michaels West Hills with an entirely different experience. From my initial phone call down to checkout, everything worked out. Kudos on these new changes, Michaels. I won't think twice about shopping here next time around. read more

Let's get it together, Michael's craft store employees! Seriously, I've been coming here for years & the quality of employees never changes. They're either miserable or completely impersonal people. They know nothing of crafting, so don't come to share ideas or expect some kind of creative genius to help you with whatever you're coming in for. I recently shopped here for poster supplies in memory of an important figure of our town, Canoga Park. I specifically asked for particular items & they told me they did not exist or were not available.... with what little time I had, I did a little hunting, found what I needed. I then waited in a line for 10 mins to check out with my 3 items. The sweet elderly couple in front of me, had been in line since I began shopping... & had moved about 5 feet from where I left them while I searched for the items this store "didn't carry." I made a call to the store this afternoon asking for some rainbow colored ribbon (& safety pins) to use in prideful celebration of National Coming Out Day today... Well, the woman who answered the phone informed me that they have "all kinds of ribbon" & although I detected she had a piss poor attitude about my request, I made myself more specific & asked if there was anything similar to or that of "half-inch-thick ribbon to cut & pin on for awareness -like the pink ones used for breast cancer awareness month"... She said I "would have to be put on hold for a person in stock to check"... I replied, "no problem!"....*12mins later*... I hung up. I called back 4 times!!!! Each time, I was hung up on! This store is not close or "on the way" which is why I called in the first place! & hanging up on calling customers is so rude & disgusting. I never received the help I needed, nor was I able to purchase the ribbons for the fear of walking into this store and raising hell on the entire staff, because of my horrible experiences with them. I've been miserable walking out of this store TOO many times & it's just better to stay away from here. Train your staff to be more customer service oriented! The woman who was working in the frame department on April 6th at 9 am annoyed me. The place was empty, I had a print that I needed to cut so I could buy an appropriate frame for it. It was a picture of my parents house that I wanted to give them to hang in the retirement home they are moving to. I just needed two inches cut off each side and then I was going to buy a frame. When I asked her if she could cut it she said no. I asked why and she said she had other orders to work on. It would have taken her less than a minute. The place was empty. She took more time explaining why she can't do it than it would have taken to cut it. I didn't push the issue, I just left without buying a frame and then came here to tattle on her. I will never go to a Michael's again, which I'm sure they don't care about but maybe someone will read this and talk to their employees about customer service. Or maybe not. I came here to look for some cross stitch kits but they didn't have a very big selection to choose from, so I passed. But I did enjoy browsing all the baking and cake decorating stuff and made a mental note to come back here for all my baking needs in the future. I also couldn't find little pocket calendars in the front section of the store. I dunno if they carry them anymore, but I used to like buying them every two years in the Torrance store on PCH. Hopefully they'll have them next month, but well see. The great thing about this location is that it's located in a giant strip mall that also has lots of other retail stores and restaurants--and even an AMC movie theater, so it's a really great place to come for lots of shopping and entertainment. read more

I love Michael's obviously if you shop here you probably do too but I come to this location frequently and the staff are always helpful and knowledgable about the store inventory and products. They're always busy doing something but will help you out for whatever. This evening i came in (Black Friday weekend) and they were busy with tons of orders (including my online order i was too excited about). My order wasn't quite ready yet and i was expecting them to tell me i just would have to come back when it was because they were backed up or something - but she told me if i had a few minutes she could pack it up for me since I was already there and had been waiting (after looking up the order, confirming items etc.). I was so happy and shopped around a little longer. She found me in the store and told me it was almost ready. I waited in front with my 2 year old son and she maintained her cool and stayed composed the whole time i was there even with other customers literally chasing after her for questions and help as she was packing up my order along with many others (I think she may have been manager). She was quick, calm, and kind and it may seem simple but service like this is not common !! Great experience all the time but especially today. Happy holidays read more

I put in an order for store pickup a couple of days ago and when I call this store to ask about my order they get very rude and tell me that it is not ready. When I ask them if they know when it might be ready they give me no information and just tell me to wait. All of the items I ordered were eligible for same day pickup at this store, showing that the items were in stock as well. read more

Kimberley was great! I was really frustrated when I lost a few diploma and picture frames due to shoddy hanging (on my part). I took the problem pieces to Michael's at the Falbrook Mall and was extremely satisfied. Kimberley was pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. She found a solution for 4 of my frames and I'll be heading back for 2 more frames. A reasonable price and I am quite satisfied. read more

Whenever I go here, I regret it. It takes me at least 10 minutes to find an employee who usually is busy with another client and then I have to wait another 5 minutes. When they finally are free , they give you a vague direction as to where you might find what you are looking for If you are in a hurry, I can tell you that on average it would take you 20-30 min to buy what you need at this store unless you already know where it is read more

I've shopped at this location for a long time since it's super close to where I live and normally I just find whatever I need, make a quick purchase, and carry on to whatever I'm trying to do. I ran into Sam while shopping and I just wanted to say she is so kind and honestly made my night. Normally the customer service here is whatever but Sam really kicked it up a notch. She helped me find exactly what I needed and gave me some pretty good tips for the painting project I'm currently working on. So thank you so much!! I placed an order for curbside pickup and came too close to 6 yesterday and when I tried to check in, the app said curbside was unavailable and only available between 9 and 6. Fair. Today I came after work again, twenty minutes to 6, app says curbside is unavailable. I called the store and was informed that curbside ends at 5 because it's getting dark earlier. Corporate or local store management needs to update the curbside hours so customers don't make wasted trips. read more

This is the worst store I have ever been too. I went in there on Labor day. I was looking to purchase some yarn. I picked out three sets of yarns, there are also a sign that if you bought a yarn the second was going to be half off. I took it to the register, I told the cashier and he tells me well you need to go back and take a picture to prove that it is on sale because our register is never wrong. I just looked at him and said shouldn't that be your job to do that? I am a customer and shouldn't have to prove anything. I went back and took a picture and came back, he was helping someone else and I was told to go to another register. I asked to speak to manager, a young guy named Ron comes to the register and he I tell him that it is not right that as a customer I have to prove by going back and taking a picture to prove a price. He just looks at me completely lost and says so what do you want me to do? I told him apparently I can't teach you customer service so nothing. He says that deal had expired and I was going to honor it but now I am not going to. I just looked at him and told him I was just ready to spend $300.00 in your store buying yarn and now I am not going to do that either. If your promotions expired then they signs need to be taken down. I left everything at the register and walked out. someone needs to retrain all their employee's in customer service. My review is regarding the Framing Department at Michaels. Quite simply, the folks who work here are some of the kindest, most helpful people I've ever met. I had a bunch of pictures that needed framed, so they helped me with everything from custom framing, to choosing pre-existing frames for some pieces, to selecting and custom-cutting various mattes. Their work was always top-notch, and they were always so patient and helpful. If you ever need any framing done, no matter the job, this particular Michaels store is the place to go. Wow, I am truly in shock with my experience I just had at Michael's. I walked in looking for a sample of leather that matched my sweater I wanted to repair. I walk up to ask the lady near the entrance (middle aged, dark complexion and short black hair), doesn't even look up and just points to the aisle right next to where she was working. I find a ziploc bag filled with random pieces of leather. It was literally just a ziplock sealed up with no price on it but a label. I opened it up to look and see if there was the color I needed. The lady sees me, rolls her eyes and says "can I help you?", takes the bag from my hands and goes up to the register. I was confused and followed her to ask if I can go through it. She tells me I couldn't unless I was going to buy it. So I asked how much it was and if I could buy it. She then tells me no and that it wasn't supposed to be out. I've worked most of my life in the customer service industry and managed many stores so I would like to let management know this is not ok. Be careful if you have to return something. I returned $18 worth of product and was inadvertently double billed during that return time. I've spent multiple hours on the phone trying to get the issue resolved and my account credited. I was told a credit was issued seven days ago but it could take up to 30 days to get to my account. If their system can charge my bank within seconds before I even leave the store why do they have a system that takes 30 days to return a customers money? This is unacceptable business practices and I will not be shopping there again. read more

I go to Michael's all the time not expecting much from the service. So today was no different but today I was being assisted by the assistant store manager at the registers. I expected more I guess since he has the title right on his name badge! No he was worse than the others. Service was indifferent, he could not be bothered . He was not interested. He dropped the receipt into my hands, no thank you and no eye contact, he said next... I was still standing there. I went in looking for a particular Halloween decoration today that their website said this store had in stock. I looked through the store and I couldn't find it. I asked a young lady worker to help me find the item. She looked up the code number but it didn't show any in stock. She asked her manager about it and he said they do t have any yet. They get them every year, but it should come shortly. He did say he saw some st another store. I called the other store, but they didn't have any in stock. I called three other stores, but no luck. One store had the real expensive $250 range item, but that's a little too pricey for me. read more

I am a craft person... so I have to like Michaels... but having worked here for many many many years...I have to say I hate this location. It could be great... but honestly, the management and corporate office is so POORLY run, this is just a waste of space. If Michaels had any real competition, this place would be out of business in less than a year. Honestly and very seriously! Someone needs to step it up in the craft store game! The current manager of this store, Michelle, is the worst manager I have ever seen in a retail place. She's incompetent, mean-spirited and just the most horrible person I have ever met. Honestly. What manager takes a smoke break every 5 minutes...and walks around the store idly doing nothing. I've never seen that...ever...making comments like "she doesn't do that". I know retail... no one is working their butts off since it's not their company... but she's the worst. I've seen sooo many other lame managers... but she is the WORST WORST WORST. Let me tell you... there's always a long line...and no one will ever check anything for you...so you really shouldn't bother calling for a "stock check". They'll just tell you it's on hold.. or that they have it... but when you drive from wherever you live... it'll be no where to be found. Aside from that, there's so much "office politics" going on in this store.. that there's really no time for customers or customer service. I mean, I have seen the manager on numerous occasions yell at customers and tell them that she doesn't have time for them. hahaha! To which I laugh. I am so glad that I don't have stock in this company. They're always out of everything...and the people at night, do not do a good job of recovery. I think it's because they want to get the hell out of there... which who could blame them... but in all fairness, the corporate office doesn't allocate the hours correctly to run this store. Also, this store is filthy. They never clean the restrooms (please don't go near those toilets) and they rarely sweep the floors. When I worked here, I always went next door...or somewhere else... because seriously, you could catch something in there. It's disgusting! This store needs to be better run...and while the management at this particular store is atrocious.. it's also a corporate issue. A while back, this company was a public company... but had to become a private one to avoid going bankrupt...and quite honestly, I'm not sure if it's doing any better. One last thing, that totally blows my mind. This is a craft store people! It's supposed to be happy and fun and a place for exploring creativity... not stifling it. I don't know who's bright idea it was to make the uniform black and khaki. I don't know any more uncreative colors... because that's as uncreative as it gets. You can't decorate your name tag either? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of this place? Also, doing away with the classes they once offered was just bizarre. So many people took classes and purchased supplies they needed here. That just doesn't make sense... by offering classes, you are instilling a new hobby in people...one where they will most likely spend money on...at your business! It's just weird...and it's not like they were paying the teachers a lot. They made minimum wage with a bonus after having 4-5 or more students...so it really wasn't worth it for them. Great store to get any kind of art and baking supplies. Michael's, almost always, has some kind of a coupon online or off a smartphone app, sometimes even 50% Off! This location, however, needs to really work on their customer service. I come to this store every other week for my business. Almost every time that I come here, there is a huge line for checkout and only one or two registers open. Meanwhile you can see at least 3-4 employees either wondering around or doing tasks that can definitely wait for later when there isn't a fifteen-person line. (Trust me because I have been a manager myself of a very busy retail store and I know the difference between tasks that can wait and the ones that can't) On top of that you occasionally see the employees just chatting with each other or with employees that are off the clock, even the manager (At least he seemed to me to be the manager) UPDATE 10/30/17: No more waiting in line as much as before! :) read more

I have been coming to this Michael's arts and craft store for years. The store is always fully stocked and clean. The organization of arts and crafts items is also easily accessible. You will be items such as gifts, imitation flowers, stickers, scrapbooks, paint supplies, photo albums, baking supplies, toys, posters, frames, arts and craft tools, markers, yarns, baskets and the list goes on and on. The customer service at this location is also really good. The staff has always been helpful to me when I am not able to locate an item. Check the newspaper or online for coupons. Went here today, I needed some canvas and unfortunately the canvas that I needed was up there in the ceiling and needed some help. LITERALLY THERE WAS NO STAFF to ask for help. I literally looked everywhere and then I finally asked the Caucasian OLD LADY that works in the florists who was obviously TOO LAZY to ask for another staff to get the item for me but instead she told me to go to the Frame station which again, NO STAFF to be found. I love me some Michaels. This store located in the Fallbrook Center. There is a lot of parking but the place is typically pretty crowded unless you visit early in the day. The store itself is large and well-organized. I like the layout of this one and have not had problems finding anything. There is one line that you queue up in and available cashiers call you up when they're ready. The line can get long and it can take a while to check out. I don't particularly like their register layout as it appears tight and you can't always see the cashier that's ready to help you while you're waiting in line, but the cashiers have always been friendly and helpful, whether I'm there for a purchase or to return something. read more

Believe me, I like the Michael's chain as much as the next arts-and-crafter here, but I have a valid reason for the 2 shaka review. Two words: LINE LOGISTICS. Not that complicated, people, I'm telling ya. Everytime I go in there, there is a long-azz, mutha-flubbin' line. And EVERY TIME, they manage to screw it up and piss off everyone who is already IN line. Every time the line gets beyond the 10th person, whoever is at the "Customer Service" desk register will come out from behind the counter and hijack the person asking where the end of the line is. They proceed to take the hijacked person over to the "Customer Service" line, telling them that they can "help them right over here". After that, they call over their shoulder to the rest of us suckers still in line, "Folks, there are TWO lines - we need you to make two lines." OK, maybe this is just me, but when you open up the second checkout line, did you ever think of taking the person who was next in line? Or did you deliberately take the person who just arrived at the checkstand just to annoy everyone else in line? Answer me that, Michaels. Now, on to the reasons they are getting 2 stars (and not zero): -Always well-stocked -Large store and (seemingly) always clean -Good parking lot Eh...2 shakas at best. I really enjoy going to Michaels. Usually we go here for picture frames, but just walking up and down the isles you see so many fun projects to work on... bird houses, beads, jewelry, painting, cooking, home decor etc. The possibilities are endless! As far as checking out, the line moves slow. The place is usually not busy, but they often times have just one clerk checking customers out. Not a huge deal, but something to note. BEWARE of this Michael's store, especially their framing department! Although I usually frame my good artwork at Aaron Brothers, I had to go to Michael's because they had a particular mat I needed. I brought an original, one-of-a-kind piece of artwork, valued at over $2500. I chose my mats and frame, paid for the service, and two weeks later went to pick up my finished and framed art. Much to my horror, the store had lost my artwork. The staff of the framing department just shrugged me off--and It took three calls to the store manager who finally gave me the telephone number of Michael's insurance company. And that's when I started on an 8 month nightmare of having to track down the artist, get an updated certificate of value, and struggled to get the insurance company to even answer my telephone calls or emails. When all the paperwork finally met their approval, they finally told me the maximum liability for Michael's was only $250. The invoice they make you sign at the store limits the amount they will pay out, regardless of the cost of the original artwork. Don't trust Michael's with your precious artwork or photos. They can damage, destroy or lose your property, and leave you no options for reimbursement for the actual cost of your property. AND STAY AWAY FROM THE WEST HILLS STORE! This particular Michael's store is dirty, poorly run, has lousy help and NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Their framing staff obviously threw away or stole my artwork with no consequences. Because Michael's dominates the craft market, there is no incentive to put their customers first. Two sets of managers, as well as the head of customer service at their corporate headquarters assured me that this matter would be resolved completely to my satisfaction, all the while knowing knowing that I would be taking a $2,250. loss (not to mention the loss of original artwork perfect for our home...) Only when customers stand up and boycott stores for bad products and services will retailers get the message to take their customers needs far more seriously. read more

I don't know why I keep coming back here. It's always so disappointing when it comes to the supplies I need for my crafts. I mean, compared to the Joann's store in Porter Ranch this place is a sad muffin sprinkled with a puppies despair and children's tears. Their yarn selection leaves much to be desired and they never seem to have any sales or special deals. Its so annoying to see such a tiny selection of yarn and then I go over 1 row and see everything you might need for curtains... and for making wreaths for some reason. I guess this places strong point is all of the kids Crafts that they have. I admit that some of those little kits for making jewelry and other silly crafts temp me. They are very pricey though so. So I guess if your looking for kid crafts this is your place. Otherwise its really up to you if you think this place is worth it. For me not so much. read more

Super expensive! I spent $22 on what should have been less than half that amount! "Winton" is student grade Winsor & Newton oil paint. A small tube of raw umber, one of the cheapest pigments there is, normally goes for $3.50. A small bottle of W&N linseed oil goes for less than $5. At the Fallbrook Center Michaels they classify Winton as the ARTIST grade paint, not the cheaper STUDENT grade paint that it is. I was in a hurry so I accepted the prices, but instead of spending $8.50 for those two items I was charged $22. Never again! read more

During the summer, I teach hula dance at an art camp..THANK GOD for an art camp that goes beyond ceramics and watercolors! DANCING IS ART, PEOPLE! However, holding the attention of 16 hyperactive girls between the ages of 6 and 12 for an entire hour is hard work. Hula can be a frustrating dance! So thank God for beach-themed picture frame crafts and making flower clips! Courtesy of this Michael's, which never seems to run out of the supplies I need, even as my trips to this place double, triple, quadruple in the eight weeks of summer that I hold classes. My two greatest issues with this place are staff courtesy and store cleanliness. It's difficult enough to find an employee in this grandiose cathedral/Costco-sized store...when you find them, they have appeared rather condescending or annoyed that you came to even bother to ask them a question. Except for the guys at framing . YOU ROCK! Second is cleanliness. I understand it's an art store and that there is such thing as freedom of expression. But the floors aren't splattered with paint or abstract works of Cubism. I find lots of oddly misplaced items, and the floors look so dirty I feel uncomfortable walking on them WITH my shoes. on. In any case though, these things can be changed. What is most important to me is the quantity and quality of the products they carry, which thus far has pleased me as I carry out my mission of aloha for my students. read more
