Michi is my go to ramen place when I don't really want to have to wait. It hits the spot and is good enough. Might be just me but seems like the bowls are smaller than I remember them to be but it's ok cause you'll still leave decently full. My go to order still has not changed much: Michi ramen with an ajitama egg, kaedama most likely at the end. The extra noodles is the perfect amount to finish the rest of your broth with...and I happen to just like noodles...like a lot. I always go for regular thickness on the broth - don't recommend the stout as its too fatty and rich for my liking. The corn is good too if that's up your alley. What I think Michi lacks that would make it better is better pork. I like pork belly, especially in ramen and i know you got a rich broth already....but lean pork belly even with the char, soy and mirin flavor going for it just doesn't cut it when its dry. There's only one slice of it in the ramen and its actually the first thing I try to eat to get it out of the way at Michi since it just gets in the way of the noodles and broth otherwise. Mochi is a nice way to round out your meal. I personally like the Sakura ones - floral notes are great after a heavy meal of noodles and pork broth. read more

Ordered here for the first time looking for a go-to ramen place, being a newbie in town. The ramen didn't disappoint! I got the Michi ramen bowl and added the pork belly with corn, as had been suggested by a some reviewers, and it was delicious. The pork belly was a generous size and the chasu was very flavorful. Their lobby is currently closed so I did a take out order which you just pick up at their little window. I would definitely eat here again and am glad I found a spot that is close by and satisfies my ramen cravings ! read more

Went searching for a bowl of Ramen because it was cold and damp and my bones were achey. Only a hot bowl of ramen and a 100 yr egg could fix. My buddy and I came here for lunch expected to be able to sit down, but were mistaken bc they are not a sit-down and eat establiahment. Think pizza by the slice, but for Ramen. You order through a window off the sidewaln and your boxed and bagged food is handed to you. They have the longest wait ever for no line. There were zero people in line and clocked 20min wait for take-out. Not impressive, actually a big negative. I feel as though this establishment does not value their customers time. When our ramen soup finally came out it was warm. Not hot then became warm but legit warm enough to drink with both hands warm. Thats awful considering the broth needs to be hot enough to finish cooking the partially cooked al dente noodles. The noodles clumped together and had to chew through. The experience was exacerbated by the very flimsy small cutlery they provide. The pork belly is thick and tasty, plus for that. The egg is firm and yolk sweet but not runny, plus for that. The spicy bomb I added was balanced well, plus for that. The broth was not over seasoned and a little creamy, plus for that. The food is 3 stars but the warm presentation and wait absolutely killed my hopes for this ramen. I do not recommend and will not be coming back. Please note I revised my review after realizing I made a mistake thinking they advertised that they were open for sitting down. They do not have seating, ever. Take-out through the order window only. I have to agree with others here: This ramen just isn't very flavorful, unfortunately. The ingredients in mine were extremely lackluster and disappointing. No punch or zest. Nothing dynamic. And as someone else pointed out, the ramen isn't inexpensive either. As to the staff, they've always been very polite and helpful! I feel super lucky to work within the delivery route to this Michi location! How cool is it that they are doing this?! Pretty cool if you ask me. I can call and have fancy ramen delivered to my desk ... yes please! I ordered the Saporro Ramen and added a couple extra things to it. I was wondering how it would be delivered and when it arrived I was impressed by the packaging. The broth comes in a separate bowl from the noodles, veggies and meat. You pour the broth in and indulge. It worked out perfectly. It wasn't as pretty as when you go to the actually restaurant and sit down, but hey .... this was delivery and I was a happy camper! Everything tasted fresh and good just like you would get it in the restaurant. I also ordered a green tea mochi and choclate peanut butter mochi. Both of them were excellent! The green tea is always my go to favorite, but OMG I loved the chocolate peanut butter! If you live in the area I would absolutely recommend stopping in here and getting some ramen to go or if you are lucky enough to live or work in their delivery route have it brought to you! What Michi is doing is a good thing for us all and I will be ordering from them on the regular! read more

I had mixed feelings when Michi opened right up the street from me. It's a take-out/delivery ramen place, no inside seating. Kind of a strange concept but it totally works. Yes, there is Tatsu-Ya right up the road but the convenience and prices of Michi can't be beat. I've tried the Michi and Veggie with different broths. I definitely prefer the stout broth to all others. Stronger, more intense flavored. Was not a fan of the miso shiitake as is was a little bitter. I think the meat is hit or miss. Occasionally it has been dry. Not really too much in terms of add-ons if you are looking for protein, sadly. Portion size is large enough to have leftovers depending on your appetite. Definitely do as others have said and get the SPICY. Amazing side of hot chili sauce with huge slices of browned garlic. They also now sell it in bulk! It kind of makes the whole experience for me, but hey, I'm a condiment person! I always order a seaweed salad on the side as well. The broth was okay but lacked some depth, chasu a thin slice and they didn't have any ajitama available either. I live only a few minutes away, the noodles don't travel well and end up like a puck. Great the broth and noodles in the microwave to get the right temperature. The takoyaki was the saving grace of the meal, very flavorful and with all the correct toppings. read more

While I would be absolutely FLOORED if there was more than only one option of their delicious Gluten Free Bowls, as it is all I can personally enjoy, it has not yet deterred me from bringing in friends and family and overall recommending Michi Ramen ( even the pickup only setup ) to any and all looking for the best ramen in Austin, TX. Considering I can only eat one item off the menu ( with appropriate GF add-ons ), one would assume I would not be so excited by Michi Ramen, BUT - I cannot fault their attentive and energetic customer service, seemingly magical layers of flavor, a plethora of rich and earthy toppings, traditional broth selections, fresh ingredients and ample servings, and thus, I highly recommend Michi Ramen, Austin to anyone searching for a memorable ramen experience, or really anyone that is hungry and looking to be both comforted, satisfied, and WOWED! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Stay away. First time visit. While waiting for my to go order, two more first time customers walked in. That was my first red flag. Got the Miso with pork belly. I paid $13 for ramen that I could have purchased at the grocery store and heated up in the microwave. I see a lot of positive reviews for this place. That's what fooled me. The "pork belly" were two tiny strips that were laughable. Think half a strip of bacon each and just as thin. PSA: There are way better places to get ramen in Austin. All around bomb ramen to go. The broth is very flavorful and the toppings are all really good. My favorite is the Sapporo ramen because its creamy with a hint of garlic. They practice Covid guidelines & check temps & require masks when not seated. Brought my almost 1 year old and sat outside and offered him a towel with water incase he got hot. This location is set up with a pickup window as it is pickup only. Problem is there is a line of people waiting and if the order is not ready for the person at front of line they don't take the next person .. so everyone waits! They should call out names when an order is ready. In addition the ramein isn't that good and their latest version of pork belly was all fat not like it was years back. Used to be a regular of their dine in restaurant but was very disappointed in their takeout. Spent over $30 on 2 dishes and honestly I could have done better at home by adding ingredients to one of the ramein packages you can buy for $1 in the grocery store. Skip this place. Sadly, this was near inedible - the flavor wasn't terrible, but was lacking in richness and complexity. The noodles were undercooked. The bamboo was so undercooked that it was crunchy. The egg dissolved completely - white, yolk, everything. I don't know if they were just so slammed that they thought undercooking everything would save some time?? Pretty bad. They were out of gyoza. Out of potato korokke. I really don't leave reviews - much less awful ones, but this was really disappointing. Do yourself a favor and try a different ramen place. read more

I love this place and have been here several times! Really don't understand why the lower score. Awesome ramen. I love their veggie bowl, which has a flavorful thick miso broth, and my husband loves the Michi bowl. Food was good when we received it but the S. Lamar location definitely needs a better way of handling orders. I was calling and put on hold two separate times with no answer back. Ultimately drove to the location, saw 8 people outside, all had been waiting a long time. It took me 15 min to just order and another 30 to get my order. I recommend the jungle ramen. Got takeout from here for the first time tonight and it was very good. I didn't really know what I was ordering and the guy on the phone was very helpful. I got the jungle with chicken broth and chicken. It's the lemongrass one. Also had the veggie ramen with the shoyu broth. I don't like miso so I didn't want to try the miso broth but it was highly recommended. They quoted 20 minutes and I think it was ready in about 10, so that was a plus. Overall my wife and I were very happy with our first Michi experience. Two very satisfying bowls of ramen on a chilly and rainy Halloween night when we didn't feel like cooking. read more

I really want to like this place. There aren't any other Ramen options in south Austin, so I kept going back. Unfortunately, the ramen is at best mediocre. They often forget to include items I've ordered and paid for (spicy, mayu etc.) The worst part is they tend to run later than the pick-up time they tell you (sometimes you are stuck waiting for over 30 minutes past when it was supposed to be ready), and they are rude and unapologetic about it. read more

I ordered takeout from Michi the other day and was pleasantly surprised. It was all packaged thoughtfully and clean. The ramen itself was very hearty and filling. Definitely good bang for your buck. I like the ability to add on any ingredient. I got the meat lovers with their stout tonkatsu broth. It had a little more meat than my wife's, and she got the Sapporo. The broth itself was great, just a little under seasoned, but nothing a bit of salt from home couldn't fix. I'll definitely order again. read more

I recently had ramen from here for the first time. Like most Austinites, I was comparing it to ramen tatsuya. I knew it wouldn't be as good as ramen tatsuya but I wanted to try it out. I was surprisingly impressed with how tasty the ramen bowls were. I had the michi ramen with stout broth and I added garlic and the house hot oil. My girlfriend had the Sapporo ramen with light broth. The stout broth wasn't as flavorful and rich as ramen tatsuya's broth but it was still good. I like my ramen spicy and the house hot oil was a bit of a let down. I didn't think it was all that spicy. Overall, this place is in fact a good alternative to ramen tatsuya. I recommend giving it a try if you haven't already. read more

I ate at the location up North a few months back and couldn't even finish my bowl. I literally left 3/4 of my ramen uneaten and drove a few blocks away to my favorite ramen place. I chose to wait in line for 30 minutes for my ramen rather than waste the empty space in my stomach on sub-par food. Such a ramen snob. Anyways, I tried the South location with an open mind, trying not to compare it to any of the amazing ramen I've had. Once I saw it as its own product, I loved it! The dipping noodle broth is deliciously creamy and I appreciate being able to choose how thick I want the regular ramen broths to be. I ended up placing my order online and paying online, which I highly recommend, and my order was ready by the time I drove to pick it up. Ramen noodles and the ingredients are stored in one bowl, while the broth is stored in another. Overall, wasn't very satisfied with my order. The broth was lukewarm when it was given to me and the given portion was unimpressive. I ordered the Michi ramen with pork belly.
