Indeed there was a management change at this location like a year ago I want to say? I'm glad I made it to his location since then because it sounds like it wouldn't have been some place I would have wanted to go before. I'm always a little leery about going into an auto shop (especially as a woman alone), and usually have my BS antennas up in case anyone wants to try to start selling me unnecessary things for my car that they say I need, but of the few times I've been in here over the past year I've had great experiences so far. I went in with squeaky brakes that I thought was only on one axel, and was told (and shown) that I was also dangerously close to having the same sound coming from the other axel too. I decided to have both sets changed over two trips to the shop, and got a great price with the sale on brakes they had going. The manager Jimmy seems like a good guy and I've had no drama here so far, which puts them light years ahead of many other shops. So far so good! read more

Great service! I was there today for an oil change. I called and was told to come in. I thought it was just to get me to arrive and then I'd have to wait. Much to my surprise I was seen and my oil change started immediately. During my wait I met some gentlemen that may have been or known the owners? They were really nice and we chatted. Before I knew it my vehicle was ready and I was on my way in less than an hour. 5 star service! These guys are always friendly and fast. I've had 2 oil changes and I drop my car off and take the bus home. They call me when it's done and I walk or take the bus to pick it up. Prices are fair and they do the best with their small parking lot. Midas is close to me so I chose this location and glad I did. Jamie, the front desk rep, was extremely nice and very knowledgeable! An oil change took 35 minutes and cost $40. Not as cheap as getting your oil changed out of the city, but I guess that's what the disadvantages of living in Chicago. read more

So, my car decided to start smoking from the engine just as we were getting into downtown Chicago.... we were not in the nicest section of the city and stuck in traffic. Fearing for our lives and tring not to have a full on anxiety attack, we finally got out of the traffic and pulled into a gas station parking lot. What do you do when your car starts having problems and you're lost in Chicago? Turn to Yelp obviously. I'd lost all hope until we realized that Midas was right down the road. I was a little nervous at first about dropping off my car and the keys here, but I figured since Midas is an established chain it would be alright. The car repairmen seemed really nice as well. They said they'd take a look at it for me within the next thirty minutes and then give me a call with the diagnostics if I didn't want to stick around and wait. Sure enough, just a short 15 minutes later my phone started buzzing in my pocket. The man explained what was causing the engine to smoke and then explained what they could do for me and offered some recommendations on what I should get taken care of. I made my decision and he said he'd have it fixed in a couple of hours. They let me leave my car there until right before they closed that evening. - free parking for the day! I picked it up that night then got back on the road to the suburbs of Chicago... then my engine light came on and I could feel it shaking a little bit when I was idling. Apparently you can't just have a little bad luck... So I brought the car back here the next morning and the same man was working. He remembered us and offered to take a look at everything again. It turns out some coolant had leaked down in the engine, and he cleaned it all out without any added charges! I was very impressed that he didn't even charge for labor when the leakage hadn't been due to any service they'd performed the day before! It was all taken care of in a matter of an hour and we were out of there! 5 stars for sure. My only complaint is the tiny alleyway you have to squeeze through to get to their parking lot behind their tiny building and garage. (Claustrophobia inducing). read more

I have had my oil changed here twice and my battery changed once. With both situations, I came in with no appointment. I was treated very nicely and had very fast service. Both times I was in and out under 35 minutes! Great prices too! My favorite thing is that they are close to lots of shopping, so you can get something done while you have your short wait. I am adding to this review after my third visit. I just have to say this place is amazing. I came in because a panel fell of the underside of my car. The bolted it back in and check my tire pressure. This took them probably 25 or 30 minutes, AND THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME? What the heck? That is crazy! I wish I had cash to tip them or something. The prices here are always really low, but free??? I have to say Mike and Martin are two of the nicest people I have met in the car repair industry. My camry broke down and I took it to their place. Long story short, it was expensive to fix. Not only did they help me pinpoint what was wrong for free, they also gave me a few days free of charge to figure out if I wanted to fix it. The didn't hassle me about the details and were very flexible with helping me getting my car towed. They were very respectful and it did not feel like they were trying to make money off of me. They helped me make a reasonable decision even though they were not benefitting from it. Hopefully I won't have to go back to them once I get a new car, but if I have car issues, they will be my go to! read more

This place is great. Always fast, willing to accept day of drop offs. I had a terrible break job done by another auto shop where they didn't prep the rotors correctly. I took my car here to get the other set replaced and when my car was still making noises they cleaned up the other auto shops slop and fixed the back breaks as well. Additionally I took my car in because of a terrible knocking noise. It turns out that the lug nuts on one of my tires was loose. They didn't charge me a fee for "evaluation". They fixed it and because of the minor issue there was no charge. Really a great place I recommend it to everyone. read more

Came in for brake work. They changed the price from the quoted amount right before I was about to Kay. Also, had to come back a few times because there was issues with the work they had completed. Let me start by saying that I no longer live near this Midas but continue to take my vehicle here because they always service it. So when my mom said her brakes were bad I told her we will take it to Midas. I called the day before to ask if they could see me Friday and I was told that they could. Friday comes drop the car off early in the morning I spoke to Nick in the front office, tell him that there was a dashboard light on also he told me he'll look at it and give me a call back. Call me back he tells me about a sealant and It will most likely take the light off and he's going to do brakes and rotors and quotes me a price. He told my mother three hours so she decided to wait five hours later I end up picking her up he told me we can get the car the next day. The next day comes he tells me they delivered the wrong part and it will not be ready until Monday. Monday I go to pick up the car Nick doesn't tell me about anything that went wrong so I paid and gave my mother the key and left. My mother calls me and tells me her check engine light is on. I said it might be a mistake maybe they forgot to turn something off she said no she went in and talk to them and they told her it will be $400 to fix. So I called and I speak to Nick, and I asked where was the disconnect he tells me that my mother didn't tell him the check engine light was on so they didn't fix that. I myself told him there was a light on the dashboard and he told me that he would look at it and fix it. Second you telling me what an untrained owner is telling you that's wrong with the vehicle versus your trained professional technician taking it for a test drive and finding out what's wrong with it. He tells me that his technician didn't tell him about the check engine light until last minute. That doesn't sound like my problem and even if he told you last minute you never told me any of this. Nick let me pay for a vehicle that he did not fix. I'm very disappointed in Midas and the service I received. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. They have just lost a customer. read more

I went in today for an oil change and my AC was not working. Arlington heights Ford told me the AC system was broken and it would be almost $1100 to fix it. They looked into it and informed me my freon was out and nothing was broken at all. My AC now works perfect and it was cheaper with the oil change than the diagnostics costed to find out what was supposedly wrong at Arlington Heights Ford. Thank you! read more

Fabulous. I got two new tires here- they made an appointment with me same day, which most places wont do. Everyone was super friendly when I dropped my car off even though it was a little confusing on where to pull up- standard Chicago living not Midas problem. The reason I give 5 stars is because they said they would leave the keys in my car because I was going to pick it up after they closed. I forgot to pay for the tires, (mom brain) they called me and my husband several times but we didn't have cell service. They gave me the managers cell phone number and even though it was horrible snowy weather they were willing to come back to the shop just to let me pay and get my car when they were closed. Anyone who goes above and beyond deserves to be bragged on. Great customer service, good tires- I will be back if I need anything else done. read more

I stopped in for a loose muffler and I was told I needed a complete exhaust system. I already knew I needed a rusted clamp replaced and that was it. The salesperson tried selling me a complete system that was unnecessary. Pepper think because I'm a woman I'm clueless but I worked in a shop for three years so I am not clueless people. We dropped off our car 90 minutes before closing with a flat tire. I had to drive on the flat, ruining it, because we had no spare or tools. The tire was a rare size. This shop had the correct size tire delivered to them and installed in under an hour! This saved our day since we still had a long way to drive that day. So i brought my car in to get my tires changed. Simple thing right? Nope I come to find out that they put on the wrong size tires on my Jeep. Therefore it screwed up my transforming case on my drivetrain which now is not covered by my warrant therefore i spent 4K to fix this. I'm grateful for the great service we received from Midas this morning. The lower engine pan on our car detached while my wife was driving down Lakeshore Drive this morning. She was able to pull over and call me. A quick Google search of nearby auto shops showed this Midas. I called at 7:35 a.m. and spoke to Mike, who was very nice and said that they could help, so my wife drove the car over, with the belly pan dragging on the road. Just after 8 a.m, my wife calls to say that Midas fixed the engine shield for no charge and that she was on her way. To Mike and everyone at your Midas, thanks for your help! To VW, please design an engine pan that doesn't require 15 screws to keep the thing on! read more

Had a good experience with an oil change here a few weeks back and thought I would have them look at my muffler after being told I needed a new one. Jimmy quoted me on a new muffler but explained that I could probably wait another year or so before doing any work. He explained that the cover to my air filter was open and that might be creating some of the noise I was hearing. It is so hard to find a mechanic shop where you really feel confident leaving your car. Everyone has their horror stories but fortunately there is no monster in the closet with this Midas location. I recently had a little bit of trouble with my '77 Lincoln Continental. Normally this would mean scouring the landscape to find that one little independent garage that knows all the little ins and outs of classic cars. I first went to this Midas to see about an air conditioning problem with another of my cars and I remembered being treated very well and being told the honest truth. So I decided that since it's right down the road from me, I'd take the car there. What happened since then is a lot of trial and error. When dealing with a classic car's cooling system, it can sometimes be tough to zero in on the problem. Jimmy and his team were upfront from start to finish and were very helpful. It's always nice when a mechanic shop is managed by true car people. Now the car is running great and a part is on the way to fix the faulty gauge. There may be bad mechanic shops out there but this is not one of them. Car making a weird noise? Air conditioning not cooling you down? Trust the Midas touch and bring it here! read more

ALWAYS get a second opinion if you go to Midas. You just might be getting bamboozled. Second experience with Midas where they told me my car needed hundreds of dollars in repairs just to go somewhere else and they told me my car was FINE. Came here for a car inspection, they had my car in the air for 30 minutes with my tires strewn on the ground (very sloppy), no one tells me what's going on. I have to walk onto the shop floor for an explanation. Some man comes and explains some "problem" with my brakes I obviously won't understand, quickly ushers me inside for a quote of nearly 450, and urges me to get the problem fixed right away. Hmmmmm. I go to another shop (not a Midas) the next day, no such problem, inspection passed, I'm free to go. DON'T TRUST THIS PLACE! read more

Never had major work done here so take it with a grain of salt. But if you manage to get the Groupon, it's one of the best deals downtown for an oil check. Usually pretty busy on weekends so be prepared to leave your car for a while and come back. But the service is great and they don't try to upsell you on something you probably don't need. read more
