a little while ago my car started overheating and I didn't know what it was. aw geeze, what a stereotypical female. I called midas because I was too scared to drive. they were very helpful over the phone with as much info as they could give. when I finally started making my way over after work, I freaked out and had to stop in a parking lot. the gentleman on the phone was so patient and helped me with what to do until I made it over. all through my 4 or 5 phone calls. yup. 4 or 5. in a 45-minute window. this place is great. I've always hated going to any place that deals with cars because I am never sure if I'm being duped for parts I don't need or not. they're very friendly here, willing to listen, and will even help you try and save a little money for an expensive job. this place has got enough of a golden touch to keep me coming back. read more

Over two years ago I brought my car in for new breaks. When I picked my car up I drove it home and while on the road. pieces of my brakes fell to the ground we had a fender bender but not a bad one. I had it towed back to midas and they said they would pay for my repairs. Over a year later after calling the corporate office no one paid. I went to small claims court and won. They didn't even care to show up. Now two years later they still have not paid. And corporate office basically told me to get lost. They will probably contact me after this so people will think they want to help but they don't because about a year ago they said they would help but they didn't. I have also spoke to others who have filed lawsuits and Midas ignored them also. Don't bring your car to them. I was disrespected by the workers and Corporate Office. I gave them a one star but I don't think they are even worth that. read more

DO NOT GO TO MIDAS ON RENTON AVE!!! I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO MIDAS ON RENTON AVE. I took my car to Midas as my check engine light was on and when I press the gas, the car hesitates. I explained all of this to the front desk worker. After all was said, they stated that I needed a new alternator, Shaft censor and an oil change which I gave the ok to complete. The next day, Saturday, I was still experiencing problems so I called Midas and explained what was going on, and JAMES (so call manager) told me that if I bring my car back, it would be an additional $179.00 on top of the $1331.00 that I paid the day before. James was very rude and not trying to help at all. After doing further research I found 2 more people that this happened to where they took their car for repairs and had to go back a second time and James told them that it would be an additional $179.00 for a diagnostic which is what they should have done in the first place. I also talked to a former employee who stated that they actually pocket the $179.00 which is why they tell people in order for them to check, it would be an additional $179.00. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB and will be reaching out to my uncle Jessie Jones with Kiro TV. If I could give -0 stars I would!!! read more

Haven't had much time to write an update but here's the deal. My final bill at the chevy dealership (I highly recommend them) was 495 dollars. My service advisor said that it would have been under 3 but they had to clean out unburned fuel which she said could be due to the Midas techs cranking too many time and or using the gas pedal to try and keep it running. read more

Refuse to offer me an oil change even though I have more than 30 minutes before they close. Stated that if I wanted an oil change I HAD to come in before 3 pm to get one even with an apointment. For someone who works 8-5 there is no way. I have to come 3 hours before you close even with an appointment for a 20 to 25 min oil change.... Joke. read more

This place is awesome. I came in for an oil change but my car was having some problems as it had died earlier in the week. I asked them if they could look into it and they said they would. As they went to change my oil my car wouldn't even start as the fuel pump had died. I called my dealership to try and schedule an appointment to fix it that day and they said they were unable. As I was doing this Frank was calling around and not only found a shop for me a few blocks away, but found a location where I could get the part I needed and let me use one of the loaner cars to get there. I called and talked to Frank. I asked for an estimate to replace the muffler to my 1999 camry. He put me on hold for few minutes and gave me a very decent price. I know replacing a muffler is not cheap but the estimate he gave me was reasonable and cheaper than the other places i asked. So, I made an appointment and scheduled me the next day. Later that day, Frank called me back to let me know that the part for my car was there. I took my car the next day and met Frank. He is a very pleasant man and easy to talk to, and very professional. I brought my car into this place with a knocking noise. Now, before you roll your eyes and go "Ugh, womens!" hear me out. First of all, we figured out where the noise was coming from. I don't think a fan is supposed to wobble like that. Ruh roh. We discovered it seemed to stop when the air conditioner was off. Phew! No air conditioning for you! So, I dropped by here to get a quote. The older gentleman guy behind the counter (believe his name was John) looked at the car. I turned on the car and air conditioner, and within a minute it started acting up. He said it was my radiator fan assembly that needed to be replaced. Apparently it was the secondary ("overdrive" fan if you will) fan that was the culprit, and he explained that if it were to completely fall off, then it would ruin my radiator. Lovely. He also explained that it wasn't happening all the time since it was only designed to come on when the car reached a certain temperature and the having the air conditioner or idling in traffic would turn on that secondary fan. I mentioned how it didn't typically do it on the highway, and he said that was because air would move through the car and cool it down. At least what he said made sense. So he went inside to do a quote for me. He quoted me $549.95 for the part plus $138.54 (down to the penny? really? how random!) to replace it - PLUS $29.95 shop supply. Yes, I still have the quote right here in front of me. Since I'm currently unemployed, I quietly gasped for air and tried to put my eyes back in their socket. I explained my financial situation and asked if there was any way he could work with me on the price. He said he couldn't really budge too much much since the part was so expensive. He showed me a picture of the part on his screen and I asked if there was any way he could order just a replacement of only that one fan since it was really the secondary fan that was acting up. He said he doubted it, but he'd look into it and call me. He also suggested trying to call around to some local junkyards to see if I could get a used part. It all sounded fair enough. The next morning I got a call from him. He said there wasn't a way to order just that "one fan" (I figured) and I would have to order the whole thing. He said he was still looking for a cheaper part and would call me back. I asked him for the part number so I could search for it. I Googled the part number, and whadiya know, I found it on that magical, fandangled internets! *insert dramatic pause here* For less than $100 - including shipping. It wasn't just one individual location that I found it... oh no.. TONS of places had it for roughly that price! He called back that afternoon and told me he found a cheaper part for $475. I mentioned my findings to him and he just said "Oooh. Well, if you buy it you can bring it in and we can install it for you." Fat chance dude. I noticed there were several variations of the same part, so I called the dealership and gave them my VIN number so I could get the exact part number to order. They quoted me $432.18 for the whole assembly, and they mentioned I could just replace the fanblade itself for $62.26 (though my best guesses said I probably needed to replace more than the fan) and for the motor only for that one fan for $219.81. Granted, that is the price for genuine name-brand factory parts. But even the parts guys at the dealership mentioned "If this is for a used car, I got a place 5 minutes from here I could get some secondary parts from, and I could sell it to you for $150. It won't be genuine factory parts, and that doesn't necessarily mean it's not a quality part, but as you can see there is a big price difference." I also asked them if Midas orders parts from them, and he said "No, but they could be ordering genuine parts from other resources." Fair enough. I ended up ordering the *whole* part online for just under $100 including shipping. It arrived a week later (not a fun wait, but worth it), and I took it somewhere else to get it replaced. In summary, I wouldn't go here for anything beyond an oil change because they will probably gouge you - badly. Plus, really a $29.95 "shop supply" fee? Once I saw the part, I could easily see that all that was required was unscrewing some screws, taking a few parts out and putting this thing back into place. What "supplies" were you going to charge me for? Screw drivers? Look at the math: Midas: Parts: $475-549.95 Labor: $138.54 "Shop supply": $29.95 Total: $643.49-786.69 (including $68.25 taxes on the highest price) Dealership: Entire assembly fan: $432.18 Individual fan + motor (even though the Midas guy said this couldn't be done: $62.26 + $219.81 = $282.07 + ~$130 for another place to install Total: $412.07-562.18 (Obviously) Non-manufacturer parts ordered over the internet: $98.87 + 1 week ship time + ~$130 for another place to install Total: $228.87 = Win!! Midas in Renton ...my business cube van was towed in thinking it was a fuel pump..it was found out to be out of gas..204.00 bill later took it to get filled up..couldn't get it to accept gas..took it back to Midas said they pinched a line putting the tank back on..okay change the oil too I told them..once again had my manager go and pickup the delivery van once again didn't accept gas...HUh? My manager brought it back to Kevin Midas manager..said he would have to drop the gas tank again . My question is this////Didn't he and wasn't he supposed to do that already? I would not recommend Midas. Frank used to be great as the full-time manger. Kevin has no follow up. I stopped last Thursday because the oil pan that was replaced was leaking. Mind you the 3-month warranty on the part was up by quite a while, and I have only driven the car a little over 9,000 miles since the new oil pan. Is the part no good or was the mechanics? Kevin said that he would talk with the owner, Luis and he was sure we could work something out and he would have an answer no later than sometime Friday or Saturday. It is Wednesday of the following week. I had never heard a word from Kevin. I called. Kevin acted surprised that he had not called. Of course, he did not want to share what Luis said. I would pay $433.00 for the leaking gasket and he discounted the labor plus I would need to pay for the oil pan and oil change but he would authorize me paying the same price as the one before. Kevin's customer service on the phone was "Yes. Mam," repeatedly. I asked him not to do continue with the "Yes, Mam's" it was not good customer service. (It was apparent that he figured the agreement with the "Yes, Mams" would diffuse any anger. It was upset by his tactic.) If you ever go into this Midas shop, Kevin tries to defuse the discussion with his personal stories. Luis should be ashamed of himself and the customer service, parts and work that represent his business. Luis apparently has the "Midas Touch." read more

I made an appointment for just a routine oil change, I checked in and they told me I would be out in half an hour. Great, fine. I waited for over an hour before they even moved my car from the parking lot, mind you this was AFTER I had to ask about my car's status. All in all it took two hours for my oil to be changed. The wait wouldn't have bothered me as much if they hadn't pulled in several cars ahead of me that didn't have appointments or had later appointments than me. I made an appointment because I had just gotten out of work for 4 hours and now I'm late going back in. The wait was just ridiculous for an oil change. Simply put, Frank and his team are the best. I went in for a leaking freon tank right at the end of last summer that they patched . I didn't really notice anything wrong for the autumn or winter and then summer rolls around again and I've got no cooling. I took the car back in and told frank the problem. Turns out it had another hole in it in addition to the one they patched before and they were able to find it because they put in some dye the last time. Long story short, they fixed or again for free with the promise that if I have any further problems they would take care of it. Good people. read more

Howdy folks! Let me tell ya...I know that going to a car repair shop can be a daunting, even terrifying experience. Such is NOT the case with Midas of Renton. Man, does Frank take care of his customers! That guy is awesome! I rolled in there with some very iffy brakes (not "breaks" as many people type it). Frank coolly surveyed the situation and informed me that it would be easy to do the job, and to just leave my car there and he'd take care of it. Here's the kicker...Frank and the mechanics stayed 90min past closing making sure that the car was working perfectly. Talk about service! Great, great stuff. Right on budget, too. The last couple times I've been in Frank and I discussed that I was getting married this year. I backed over a curb/bush with my rental car during a recent business trip to Tukwila/Renton and I damaged my muffler and tail pipe. I called Frank at MIDAS, and even though he was not taking appointments, he told me to drive over so he could look at it. I stopped by a couple hours later and Frank and his team jumped on my rental car as if they were a NASCAR TEAM. They fixed my muffler and tail pipe within 10 minutes! Hello, my experience with Midas was exceptional (per usual). I didn't pass the emissions test b/c of a leak in one of my hoses as well as a steering wheel problem, so i immediately drove to Midas in Renton in 5 minutes flat and Luiz looked at my papers and said he could get me in first thing after work the following day. So I made it just in time the next day and the work on my car was done in a 1/2 hour at most at a reasonable price. I had a coolant leak and when I took it in Luis and his guys let me know there was a crack in the thermostat housing. He and the other mechanic (didn't get his name) allowed me to go over and check it out. They applied air pressure to the coolant container and sure enough coolant began leaking around the area where I first noticed the leak. They had it fixed in a couple hours and I was able to head to Oregon that night for a wedding with no problems. Giving 4 stars only because of the final price but it got fixed. read more

It was time to change the spark plugs on a '91 Buick. Went to Midas for a quote on the job. I was quoted $387. I asked if I supplied parts how much would labor cost me. Jesse said the job as quoted the labor was $110 per hour, 2 hours. However, they charged more per hour if I supplied the parts, $150 per hour. $300. The customer service was nice, you want to do business with them. But using your head and doing the figures, you're going to go elsewhere. Made an appointment online to have my brakes checked. Got a response within 24 hours and scheduled for the weekend. Brought my car in and got checked in by a nice gentleman and said he'd call me when they've assessed the work needed. I also asked if they could also do an oil change and said no problem. Called me about a half hour into the appointment and broke down what needed to be done and the price. He gave me a discount on the oil change. I told him about the online discount on the brakes. He put me on hold and then got back to me with a better deal and broke this down too. He then said I could pick up my car around 4-4:30pm. Good honest mechanic. Went in with squeaky brakes, totally expecting to be told I need a whole new brake system or something expensive. They took a look and said it was just some rust from the main part of the brake. Showed me my still mostly intact bake pads and sent me on my way. My brakes were fine and they told me so. They answer there phones right away, and they are so friendly and affordable! A couple days later I found out all the electrical wires under the hood were chewed up and it would cost a couple grand for a new harness. Took a car there another time for an oil change... told me they would call when finished. I waited all day and finally called them during closing time. He told me it had been ready for hours but he forgot to call. Another time, I rented a car while leaving my vehicle overnight. They said it would be done by the same day, but if anything, the next morning. I called the next morning and they had started working on it. So we went into the shop and asked an employee how we would go about changing the light bulb on a 2013 Jetta. Luis the owner started yelling at his employee telling him that he can't help us because we didn't pay. We just wanted a simple explanation on how to go about it and he freaked out on us. Luis ended up telling us that we couldn't come to his store ever again. All we did was ask how to change a simple light bulb and we got yelled at. We were traveling through Renton, moving our daughter from Seattle back to Colorado Springs (and eventually to London). We were pulling a U-Haul trailer with our higher-mileage 2003 Taurus, and I noticed some braking issues. My wife and my daughter would be driving a leg of the trip themselves without me, so I wanted to be double certain of the safety aspects of the car. I needed some work on the brakes, and my go-to store for that is Midas here at home in Colorado Springs. Naturally, I wanted Midas to check and repair these issues too, but I needed the work done without much/any notice. I called the Kent store, and he worked hard to squeeze me in, but they were booked solid that morning. They suggested I call Frank at the Renton store. Frank too was booked, but he made room for us knowing that safety was my concern, and that we were on a tight schedule. He was extremely accommodating, worked us into his busy schedule as soon as I got there, gave us a solid estimate, and completed the work on time, with professionalism and with a great attitude and smile. I've rarely run into the likes of Frank in the automotive repair business, and I want to call him out very specifically. Even the guy at Kent spoke extremely highly of Frank, having been himself taught/mentored by Frank. Please keep up the great work. And please keep gentlemen like Frank aboard! I went to this midas to get an oil change and they informed me that id have to get my brake fluid flushed. Two days later my brake light came on so I went to my normal mechanic. He informed me that the guys at Midas purposely did not screw on my cap so that the liquid could spill out...... they are a SCAM ARTIST!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Frank and Luis are awesome!! I will never bring my car or any of my kids' cars anywhere else for repairs! Yesterday my daughter brought in her car for a detail at Car Toys in Tukwila. As soon as she went to pick up her car, she noticed all her brake fluid leaked out and the car was unsafe to drive. Smell of smoke. I called Frank for advise, he ended up meeting her at Car Toys to check the car out. Turned out her brake hose was split. Frank drove back to his shop to get a couple clamps to act as a tourniquet for the hose which made it possible for her to drive it home and then back to his shop this week for repairs!! DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! My girlfriend brought her car in for a simple oil change and her check engine light came on the very next day!!! This is a car that has never had a SINGLE problem until we brought it to Midas. Now the car barely accelerates and it won't accelerate past 45mph. When we called them to simply see what could have happened, they IMMEDIATELY became defensive and claimed that there was no way their "services" could have caused the problem on the car but they would take a look at it. We then took car back in to have it checked by them again, BIG MISTAKE!!! Just to read the error code on the check engine light, they tried to take advantage of and charge my girlfriend $150!!! They then claimed to give her a "discount" of $70 for doing something that any auto place would do for free!!! They said the check engine code read that there was a transmission error and now we have to cover the damages because they won't take responsibility. Do not trust this place at all!!! If you want your car to keep working and don't want to have to pay extra money for someone to ruin your vehicle, take your business elsewhere! read more
