I've consistently had great service here, which is why today stood out so much. There's usually a woman at the front who takes orders and is thorough and easy to communicate with. Today, it was a younger guy who spoke so fast it felt like he was just scanning for keywords rather than actually listening. I clearly requested three services for my truck, and only one of them was completed. I understand it was busy because of the oil change special, but that doesn't excuse basic attention to detail. My service sticker wasn't even updated, which makes me question what else may have been overlooked. Was the oil plug properly tightened? Were the other requested items even checked? I originally requested an appointment for 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Midas called and asked to reschedule for 7:30 a.m. the next day because the store would be closing at 5:30 p.m. I agreed and arrived at 7:30 a.m., only to find the lights off and no employees on site. Around 7:40-7:45, the lights came on and the garage doors were slightly opened, but the front door remained locked. I walked around to the garage area and greeted an employee with a "good morning," asking if they were open. He replied "no," pointed to a wall, and said they open at 8 a.m. This experience reflected a disappointing level of customer service. Showed up on Monday at 710 because their open at 730. I was the first person there and then other showed up. We all waited and waited. Fast forward to 840. The person with the key showed up and opened the door. Once in I informed him that I needed 4 wheel balance and an alignment. I sat down and then 15 min later I am told they don't have the specifications for a 2023 4 runner for alignment. All in total I wasted 1 hr and 45 min to be told they don't have the capability to do the work. These negative reviews are astounding me. Car service isn't something to go "cheap" on, for your safety. They ran the error codes on my check engine light and gave me the option- fix with them for X amount of dollars, or to take the codes to the dealership. No pressured sales pitch, just good service. But when my car got broken into while in their care, my cars window was broken into and my car stereo stolen. I wish they were as quick to fix the damage from the theft like the quickness they had when they asked for my money before the original reason for repairs even started. At first they said they would take care of everything. I believed them since this type of businesses should be insured for this types of incidents. My car was there for 10 months. Window was fixed but the excuse they were using was a car stereo harness that they couldn't find. That should a took to a shop that specializes on installing stereos. NO ONE SHOULD EVER TAKE THEIR CAR HERE!!! They severely damaged my vehicle and are not willing to help us repair it. I had them replace a motor in our Jag after 3 other quotes. They offered the best price and timeline. 3 weeks to 1 month is what I was told. Over 4 months later, after continuous lies weekly, my vehicle was returned scratched to the metal in multiple places on the hood and all the way down the driver's side of the vehicle. I took the car back immediately and told them they scratched 25% of the vehicle. The interior was covered in oil and grease as well. The managers there lie consistently. Not my opinion but verified. They are not willing to help us repair our car in a timely manner so it still sits in my driveway undriven. The car also broke down on my way home after their repair and had to be towed back to their shop. DO NOT EVER USE THE MIDAS ON 281 NORTH. YOU WILL BE LIED TO AND SCAMMED. On the morning of Saturday, November 12th I visited the Midas located 281 N. in San Antonio, Tx for a full synthetic oil change that I had purchased on Groupon prior to arrival and requested to have my tires rotated and balanced. I was greeted by a clerk with a terrible attitude, who made it obvious he was not happy I had a Groupon. He stated their machine for balancing tires was not in service, and that the rotation would cost an additional $20. I was never told how long it would take for the services to be completed, but told the man I would be back after running some errands. Around two hours later, I received a phone call from the clerk claiming their were "issues" with my vehicle that needed to be addressed prior to having my oil changed. I arrived back at Midas and had my wife follow me to the back of the shop as an additional witness to hear what the clerk had to say about my Honda Accord. The clerk stated that the vehicle needed the valve cover gasket replaced and there was an oil leak taking place that potentially was leaking into my spark plugs, which also needed to be replaced. The clerk refused to change my oil unless I paid the $500 for the gasket plus spark plug replacement and claimed it wasn't worth his time because I walked in with a Groupon and it was going to be a liability. His references raised suspicion from my wife and I. It ultimately wasted our time since no services were provided. I politely declined to pay the $500 for a gasket that didn't need to be replaced and spark plugs that didn't need to be changed out. As I was leaving the clerk met me at the front with my vehicle and the original work order paper which had my Walmart oil sticker mileage. When I got home, I took a closer look at some of the notes written down on the work order and was absolutely floored by what was written down. "Don't have to rotate, make it look like it." This triggered me to call Midas and start a claim for this inexcusable act of unprofessionalism. What's most concerning, is the idea that an untold number of people have been duped entrusting this company to a service falsely provided. The only reason I know is because they were caught. I've called the Midas corporate office to file a complaint, followed up several times, and it's treated with no urgency. I've gotten one email from a regional manager stating he would "comp" my next visit instead of looking further into this unacceptable problem. Decided to show up at opening the following day. Still waited an hour. Only to be refused the Groupon. I even showed him where it had the location listed and everything. They charged him almost 100.00. Didn't even try to rectify the situation after refusing the Groupon. Just stuck it to me for the complete price. This location has been consistently good with oil changes. Over the last 2 years I've brought in 3 household vehicles and have had no issues. It can get busy and the wait time can be a couple hours but if you make an appointment or drop off the vehicle and pick it up later you can avoid waiting around. They are always running specials. This last visit I got a full synthetic oil change on my Lincoln for $39. Semi synthetic was $17.95. Some of the other reviews mention upselling but I haven't encountered that at all. I go here for inspections and oil changes because it's the closest to me and it's mainly more for the convenience than the customer service... Last time my husband called, we learned the inspector doesn't come in until around 11:00 am so we didn't go in until then. Dropped off my car right at 11 and they said they would call once it's ready. Hours pass and still no call. We ended up calling close to 4:00 pm and they said my car had been ready... thanks for the phone call! We now know when we drop off our cars to call to check if they're ready or not, because they will NOT call you. All the services we've had on our cars here are great; however, the customer service can be worked on. Brought my car in to fix an exhaust leak. Dropped it off, got a call they recommended replacing the gaskets which is what I was expecting, the price was a bit more then I was expecting but agreed because it needed to be fixed. When to pick up the car and they tell me the manifold is leaking too. Very curious as to why this wasn't noticed in the 1st place. They even had the audacity to say it's still leaking but sounds better then it did before. It sounds exactly the same, and makes me wonder if they even did any work at all. As soon as they lifted the car (I was standing there) they noticed the trap door had not been replaced and on inspection of drain plug (with finger) saw the Allen key hole was completely stripped round. The manager, Johnny, charged me $365 to change out two front turn signal bulbs. Of course he did not give me this price when I asked to have them changed out along with some other stuff they were doing on my car. I wondered why it was so expensive but didn't make a huge deal of it until I looked at the receipt. When I looked at my receipt I noticed that he had put "replaced two front headlamp assembly's". I questioned him about why this was on there and he said "we don't have a line item for turn signal bulbs but that is the price it gave me." I told him there was absolutely no way I would have ever authorized them to change out my TURN SIGNAL BULBS for $365! He seemed as if he had been caught doing something he knew was unethical, because he offered me $200 back on my CC. Then, as I was leaving, he offered me a free oil change as well. I thought this was nice but seemed suspicious at the same time. Fast forward 5 weeks and 2 calls later. I am STILL waiting on the $200 credit on my cc. He has told me 2 different times "Oh. You still haven't received that credit? I'll make sure and get it to you today." **Update - The previous was from my experience in early June. They also did not add coolant to the vehicle, and my car overheated as a result. I took it to the Midas off of Broadway and the owner of that Midas (really nice guy named John) told me I had zero coolant in the vehicle. I then called the owner of this Midas, Jude Crane, and he then told me he would refund my entire purchase for my horrible experience. This was on June 9. I waited until late June to reach back out and he said his operations manager would be reaching out to me. I heard nothing back for 2 weeks so I reached out again...crickets. So yesterday I sent him a text stating how disappointed I was in his lack of professionalism. Why say you would refund my purchase if you weren't going to? I wasn't expecting a full refund but why would you even state that unless that was your intent? He proceeded to tell me through text that I misrepresented information to him, which was extremely insulting. We got into it and I will never go back here. I am a business professional and I am not looking for handouts. However, I am 100% adamant about doing what you say you are going to do. Jude is not a man of his word. I don't think I've ever been to an auto-shop as horrible as this one. I came in to simply get my brakes repaired, got my car back with a crack on the windshield. I told the employees that my car never had a crack on the windshield and that this was their fault. They told me that it was always there and that they will not repair their own mistake? I told them I needed to see security camera footage and they denied completely. If you want a store that fails to take accountability for any of their actions, then feel free to go to the Midas on US-281! I'm a very patient person when it comes to waiting. I have use Midas before but at another location and did just fine. This is the first time I used this location for an oil change. I set up which I thought was an appointment online for an oil change for 12:30pm. I get there at that time and was told it would be about 45-1hr wait which is fine. Over an hour and a half went by and my car never left the parking spot. When it finally went into to the bay and got my oil changed I didn't leave until 3pm. I understand that things take time but if you know for a fact it will be a longer wait at least let your customers know. Don't tell them it will be an hour and ends up being way longer than that. I sat in the waiting room and no one kept a me updated on the status. I didn't even get an apology for the long wait. Customer service sucks!!! read more

This Midas location charges an additional $3 shop fee for State Inspections. The State of Texas does not allow this and I have filed a complaint with Texas DPS. They will be investigating. When I confronted the Manager Derek about the charge, he told me DPS visits them twice a year and they are OK with it. We will see if that is true once DPS investigates. read more
