I visit here frequently Most recent visit before posting review was in March 2015 I love diners and always will. I go here pretty frequently and the only complaint I have is about home fries. Even when I've requested them well-browned, they've come out moderately browned and very greasy. I used to eat there at least once a month for breakfast, but have begun going to a different diner for breakfast because of this. Otherwise, this is a wonderful diner! I think I've only had slow service once or twice, and that was when it was SUPER busy. Food typically comes out very fast and service is just as fast. The bill definitely won't hurt your pocket either! This isn't fancy cooking. This is your typical diner, almost home cooking type of food. It definitely hits the spot! read more

This is one of my favorite places to go, and lunch time is the best time by far, their lunch specials are always so amazing. My personal favorites are Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday they have Chicken Orzo soup that is one of the best things I've ever tasted, and on Thursday they have chicken pot pie that is really really good. I've also had their bacon cheeseburger, which is also really good and cooked the way I like it. And the prices are super cheap, with large portions, and it almost always taste good. This place is obviously a local favorite for anybody in the area. OH and if you want dessert, I highly recommend getting their carrot cake!!! Just gotta be quick, cause they don't always have it!!! But if they do it's delicious and it's not overpowering like some of the other desserts are. read more

Wanted to start heading towards home before stopping for breakfast and found this awesome spot. Had never heard of it before, but we wanted breakfast and no fast food, parking lot looked crowded so we gave it a shot. REALLY glad we did! The food was WONDERFUL, down home cooking with large portions and quick service. We had our food within 10-15 minutes of sitting down, even though the place was PACKED! Hats off to the wait staff and cooks of this place, they know what they are doing! We all tremendously enjoyed our food and if we were ever in the area again, would stop here! We went here as part of a NYC trip. We stopped and sat down, 2/4 of us had silverware and the waitress didn't come by. We had to go get someone. When she finally came she didn't introduce herself just asked what we wanted to drink. All of our food was burnt, sausages were the worst they were so burnt on one side you couldn't cut into them. Bread burnt. Home fries burnt. Pancakes crispy. Definitely not somewhere I would go back to if I got the choice. read more

Just moved back to the area. And I am disappointed to see this once good diner has fallen. I visited yesterday with a buddy. And I was excited to get some scrapple and eggs. The eggs were cold and not seasoned. The scrapple, which came out late, had a texture like it is was old and recooked. The waitress visited our table three time over the hour we were there. We decided to take a short weekend vacation to Hershey PA. We decided to stay a bit outside of the town so we are here in beautiful Carlisle PA. The hotel is fine but we wanted a close place to eat so we tried this diner. As soon as you walk in you get that diner feel in a small town. The people were very nice and the service was very nice. The food was very good. The places I eat range widely so in terms of diner food and quality this place was very good. Tried this again after more than 18 months and while the food was good along with the value, service continues to be an issue. We sat for close to 15 minutes without our ordering being taken nor our drinks being ordered. In the past, the host that sat you used to take the drink order. Finally we asked someone at the check out register if we had a server assigned, this was after someone who came in after us was already waited upon. This person appeared to be a known acquaintance of the server, Jess. When our order was taken, food arrived quickly however we noticed that Jess was constantly at this other persons' table, even stopping for several minutes to sit at his booth to chat. It took another 10-15 minutes to receive our dessert (to-go) along with our check. This person, Jess, needs retrained on how to service all customers or find a different profession. read more

Stoped threw on way home with the wife, 1st timers. Was very nice homey feeling like a diner should be .. food was very good , I had sausage gravy with biscuits.. and scrapple .. she had the chipped beef over toast... everything was lite as far as the gravy's , chip beef was on point , didn't have the corn startch/ flour taste like most , Sausage gravy was lite as well, but flavorful... biscuits were soft and flaky.. and the homemade peanut butter Oreo crust pie dessert .. Best diner in the area. Service is usually fast unless you go on a Sunday morning. Food is always good and really good for a diner! Even the salads are amazing not just breakfast. My co-worker and I had spent a day on the road and after getting a motel nearby we searched the web for a good place to sit down and have a meal served to us. At six o'clock we entered a fairly full parking lot. Once inside we were seated promptly and a waitress with a very pleasant personality greeted us. Our meals were served with a smile and both of us were quite impressed. The food was hot, very tasty, and plenty of it. Unfortunately neither of us had room for dessert, even though they all looked mighty tempting. Outstanding diner! Giant menu with anything you could want-breakfast, lunch or dinner. Multiple soup specials-had the pepper pot soup that was creamy, meaty and super tasty. Got a bowl of that! Waitress said a lot of people like that one and the Friday special of Italian wedding soup is great. I'll be there! The chicken croquette nestled on a bed of mash and gravy was just alright. Had better but still comfy food. This place was voted the best Diner in the county this year and the packed house was evidence of that. Middlesex diner one of the staple diners on the Carlisle/Harrisburg Pike, small improvements can be done at the seating area near the kitchen. the chairs are not angled correctly and one feels they may actually tip backwards. The menu has been revised down to 4 page spiral bound menu, some are clean, some look liked they needed had leftover food from customers 4 months ago with leftover food bits.the condiments trays have definitely NOT been cleaned out for a while. the sugar containers have NOT been through a dishwasher. The flatware was not shiny, old and probably was used to serve President Lincoln. Scorch marks/grease marks on the broilers are a good indicator that John Taffer and Gordon Ramsey would be screaming at the top of their lungs to shut the place down until the kitchen was scrubbed to the nth degree. The milk dispensing machine has a broken drain tray. the dessert cooler had a shelf in it that is very visible to customers that the coating on the tray has started to peel away exposing the metal to the food. There was a half glass of chocolate milk in the cooler that was uncovered left against the door. scissors left on top of the dessert cooler. i tried explaining it to waitress, OSHA violation, the waitress didn't care, so glad she is concerned for the next person who accidentally bumps the cooler and the scissors fall pointy edge into the person read more

Decent little Diner off of I81 in Pennsylvania. While traveling we try to stop at more local style restaurants, and the Middlesex Diner is just that. They have a really large menu at decent prices, and also serve breakfast all day. Overall a good stop for a bite to eat that wont break the bank while passing through the area. read more

Smalltown diner is off the hook. The chicken croquettes are delish and the country fried steak cuts like butter. Portions are generous, especially for the price. Dessert was also excellent and most of the pies are homemade. Love going to a place that knows what "extra gravy" means; I will go out of my way to come to this diner because the food can't be beat.
