CB is a go-to for us; lots of choices, hubby a meatloaf guy and he likes CBs meatloaf, I avoid cooked green peppers so it was a "no" for me. Son in Law - also very predictable - orders sirloin rare and always gets a very rare very thick steak . I order sirloin "very very rare, still mooing", and got a thinner cut, pinkish, darn it. Then my know-it -ll hubby says I should only order very rare at a steakhouse. yeah yeah but that doesn't always work either. My sadly discontinued faves were the chicken salad salad - a large green salad with a scoop of chicken salad and a hunk of blueberry muffin, and grilled (or was it broiled? haddock. I lie the grits at most CBs but they tend to be watery in Carlisle. The house salad, an up-graded side, is huge, crisp, and delicious, highly recommend. I also love love the broccoli cheese casserole, but at the CB in Mechanicsburg it was mostly cracker topping. We used o always sit family for Thanksgiving but that is no longer possible so we've bee can do without their stuffing and I need far far more grave and cranberry sauce. And please ditch the horrible overcooked green beans! Im sure they are popular, but I won't touch green beans unless they are obviously thin French beans, barely steamed so they are still bright green. Went in around 1230pm and ordered the meat loaf w one side lunch special for $8.99. The slice of meat loaf was approx 3" x 4" and about a 1/4" thick, luke-warm, rubbery and tasteless indicating to me it had been microwaved. The steak fries side was not crispy or fresh but bone hard on the tips and edges, mushy in the centers. Overall, a true waste of money and time. On 8/31/26, my husband and I went to the Carlisle Cracker Barrel restaurant around 6:15 pm for dinner. There was nobody at the host's stand to greet us or seat us for quite some time. The only staff person we saw was the cashier. We felt invisible for quite some time while standing there. Finally, a host appeared and seated us. We sat at the table for well over 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging that we were there--again, feeling quite invisible. The restaurant was not full for it being around the dinner hour, but there were a few people that had already been seated around us. I could see that many of the wait-staff workers were huddled in the kitchen, looking at their phones, laughing, and not paying attention . . . .ahhemmmm. . . .not working. Needless to say, since we felt invisible and since no one had come to our table at all during the time that we waited--over 15 minutes--WE LEFT! It's been awhile since going to a Cracker Barrel. We stopped by this location on our way home. The restaurant itself is the same as any other Cracker Barrel. The part that made this different was our waitress Shana. She was attentive, professional and probably one of the best waitresses we've had in a long time. We went a a slower time but I think this is how she is all the time. Nothing else about the restaurant stood out. It's the same decor, casual dining with good food. When my daughter was a child, road trips meant breakfast in Cracker Barrel. As a born and bred Yankee living in the south, I was delighted with the chain's flakey biscuits and creamy grits. We didn't have this up north. Well, the novelty's over and I'm ready to move on. Today's breakfast was eh. Cracker Barrel's coffee is weak. It always was. Grits were grainy -- which is good -- but hard and tasteless (which isn't so good.) Biscuits were dense, cold and what I'd expect from a day-old store. Eggs easy over were over hard, but they were readily replaced. On the plus side, pancakes are pretty good. Since I was disappointed with my breakfast (and I don't suffer in silence) my husband shared his with me, hoping it would shut me up. (It didn't.) The staff is very nice in Carlisle. I have to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Cracker Barrel, but my husband is!!! But we stopped for dinner after a doctor appointment on the area and had a very pleasant experience. Our server was very friendly and accommodating and the food was served hot and was very good. The chicken tenders were actually very meaty and not all breading, my husband said his roast beef melted in his mouth. Quiet atmosphere yesterday as we beat the dinner crowd. For my dinner here, the night before running a 12 hour race, my friend and I decided to check out this Cracker Barrel restaurant, which was basically next-door to my hotel, the Sleep Inn. It was an interesting experience to say the least, because my friend was a vegetarian, and she orders things specifically off the menu, and somehow the server botched it completely, and had to ask for the manager to correct it. That's the long short gist of the story that happened. I was glad that it got resolved quite rapidly so it doesn't look that awkward. And so, we entered this establishment around 7 PM on a brisk Friday evening after a whirlwind arrival from Harrisburg international airport to this hotel via Uber. We enter through the entrance and forgot that cracker barrel also, has a mini store before entering the restaurant. So we had to ask where is the restaurant and the staff pointed to the right direction and we ended up having to wait a couple minutes before being shown to our table by a friend, the waitress, who looks to be maybe 17 maybe. Our entire experience took about maybe an hour and a half, including the mishap that occurred. I ended up having some thing pretty delicious and very appetizing. I'm not sure what I had but I need to go through the photos. I even ended up having to purchase breakfast for the next day because nobody was up to serve us anyway, since we had to be out the door before 7 AM for the 12 hour running race event as mentioned above. The heart of the mishap centered around my friend, ordering separate items that was miss handled as being a combo meal of some sort, and was charged extra money as a result. The waitress wanted to save her some money, but ended up being charged extra for something that was supposedly not supposed included or something after of few minutes, talking to the waitress, The manager was called and he straighten everything out and I just said the ticket. It was all fine and dandy, but we needed to be back in the hotel sleeping and getting enough rest for the big day the next da. It was OK though. The overall experience here at this cracker barrel, country restaurant was decent and OK, but I could be better, especially with not the mishap and all that other stuff. The food was pretty good and enjoyable. It was simple enough to where I did not have disagreements with my stomach, after the fact, or the next day, which was a plus in my book anyway. The service could be better, but obviously it was just a misunderstanding of some sort for my friend. Service for me personally, it was good, because since I ordered what I ordered and did not have any problems. The restaurant was clean as quite cozy for a southern hospitality type of restaurant. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. Only thing is we had to bring out our check from the restaurant side and pay on the shop side, which is weird and interesting. Still, it was the only restaurant that was walkable from the hotel since my friend and I had to do Ubers instead of a rental car because of a snafu. I was glad that there was something close or else we'd be screwed. At least one way or another. There is parking available for people to park and dine. Not sure if there is public transportation here in Carlisle and / or connects with Harrisburg. For myself though, it was an interesting affair to see my friend complain to management about her order and the subsequent billing. Awkward but necessary I think. Getting significantly overcharged sucks. While my experience was okay, I suppose I can still justify the recommendation to come here to dine if you are staying nearby. SMH We go to CB often bc the calories are clear in the menu. It makes decisions easier. However, this is the first time that we have been to this location...not overly impressed. Service was slow. Cracker Barrel is a chain restaurant located off most major highways. This one happened to be a bit of a longer drive than what I am used to however, we still decided to go with it for our lunch enroute home from our trip. We were seated fairly quickly. We had a very attentive waiter. I decided to go with grilled chicken tenders along with a side of vegetable soup and carrots. My husband had the 4 vegetable plate entree. He did offer us a choice of biscuits or corn bread. I chose the former. The front of the restaurant is basically a country store where you can purchase anything from clothing to foods to cards and even body cream. They always have certain merchandise exclusive to the area you are visiting. On the table is the famous solitaire pegboard game and a checkerboard for two sits near the fireplace on a barrel. We got the entire meal at once. The vegetable soup was hot and had the right amount of vegetables to it. I enjoyed the grilled chicken tenders, They weren't too heavy a meal and was just enough for me. My husband always enjoys the country vegetable plate so he can pick out his favorites. I decided to pick up an Amish hand cream and paid for it when we went up to the registers in the country store. All forms of payments are accepted. Grocery stores sell gift cards to the business which you can use at any location. This Cracker Barrel is located near the Carlisle exit of the PA turnpike near Harrisburg. Friendly and warm service. My husband and I had a mixed experience durIng a weekday lunch at this restaurant. Food. I ordered a lunch special for $7.99 that allowed you to choose two items out of the four offered. I selected a salad with grilled chicken, and a loaded potato. It would be accompanied by a pair of corn muffins. My husband ordered chicken pot pie from the lunch menu, which included two buttermilk biscuits. ($9.99). My food was great (5/5) once the waitress finally got the order right. First, my salad was served with a vinegarette although I had ordered the dill ranch dressing. Second, she brought buttermilk biscuits for both of us, although I had ordered the corn muffins. Finally, my salad with grilled chicken was served without ANY chicken. My husband's order was correct. He rated his meal as a 3/5. Okay but nothing special. The best part was the crust; he characterized the filling as bland. Service. (2/5). Our server was pleasant, but wasn't particularly attentive to us. In addition, as mentioned above, there were many errors in my order. Ambiance. (4/5). Decor was as expected for this chain, with a country store as you enter the establishment. Fantastic location! I am always disappointed by the location near where I live, so I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at the Carlisle location while traveling through. 9/10/24: We've loved Cracker Barrel in the past when dining in. We were very disappointed in our pick-up order tonight. The Meatloaf was bland, both "loaded baked potatoes" were neither cooked (had to cook in our microwave) nor loaded. Barely a forkful of cheese, a sprinkle of bacon, no sour cream and no butter. And we paid an extra $2.72 each for the privilege of choosing them as one of our sides. The Smoky Southern Grilled Chicken was flavorless and rubbery. It looked delicious, but was awful. I'll never order that again. The cornbread muffins had a bad aftertaste and were dry. No butter was provided. Only saving grace was the delicious Mac & Cheese sides. Not to mention tables of dirty dishes. Then when we checked out, we were not even asked how everything was. The entire staff seemed to be bothered that they were even working. I have been to quite a few and this was the first time I did not enjoy an eat in experience and buying wonderful items I don't need from their genera store (thanks Covid-19 for ruining yet another culinary experience). For the delivery order I got a combination of breakfast and dinner delights. The meal was hit and miss. I really enjoyed the meatloaf. The sides of corn and broccoli were good too. The chicken and dumplings were a definite miss; ditto for the fried okra. The pancakes and eggs were solid - as expected. My experience overall was just fine, but not spectacular. Perhaps if I got to shop and also play the little peg game on the table to see if I am an ignoramus or not this would have been a 4-star experience. We ordered takeout in Carlisle, PA while we were driving bc we were traveling with our dog and couldn't leave her in the car. The GrubHub site was simple enough but it still got my order wrong. I ordered a meat and two sides, a four sides vegetable plate, and extra side and two ice teas. We were given a half hour window of when the order would be ready. I went inside and told them I was there. I asked twice how much longer before the food was ready and was told, "They're working on it now. Was excited to see catfish back on the menu when we arrived for dinner last night. My husband and I both had the catfish with coleslaw. I mentioned it wasn't as good as before and the coleslaw tasted sour. Within 2 hours of leaving the restaurant, my husband was violently ill. He was sick with food poisoning all night. I became sick during the night, same thing. This morning I called the Cracker Barrel and told the manager what happened. He was very quiet. She didn't say she was sorry to hear it, didn't offer a manager to speak with, absolutely NOTHING. So when I got home, I called to speak with a manager. I was put on hold, sat through 3 1/2 songs blasting through my phone, and still nobody answered. I hung up. Why should I sit on hold for another 45 minutes and wait? We placed our order within 5 minutes and we did not recieve our food for 20 minutes. Which was a long time to wait. He said the chicken was juicy but, it was very thin. He also stated that the bacon lacked flavor and was really thin almost paper like. His Sourdough bread was had been two seconds from being burnt. The edges were really crispy. I was told by my family members that there Chicken Fried Steak did not taste like steak and it was not crispy which goes with being fried. It had baked on crust on the steak. Her Mac and cheese side was not all it was cracked up to be. It was very beige in color which is different because Mac and cheese is usually orange. The service was not all that great. The waitress did not come to check up on as as waitresses usually do. They forgot two of thw sides to my family members meals. When we did get the side it was due to them asking for the side and this was sad because they had eaten 85% of there food already. I had never in my life seen or heard of a Cracker Barrel until I decided I was driving across the country a few weeks ago, and started seeing them everywhere after getting out of California. I had a hard time deciding on breakfast or all the fried dinner plates. I was so set on breakfast food, but then got a big ass Fried Shrimp dinner instead. My Fried Shrimp dinner came with a shitload of food, and was so good. It came with shrimp, some fried bread ball things, ( I can't remember what they're called, lol!) mac n cheese, fried apples, mashed potatoes, corn bread, and biscuits! I was starving when we got there, but yea no way I could eat all of that. I had plenty left over for dinner somewhere else along the road. All of the waitresses were super nice, and the store is super cute. I didn't buy anything in the store, but it looked fun. There was lots of candy and other goodies to chose from, lol. It's basically like a southern Denny's which is decent food at all hours of the day family style, and in this case Southern style. Absolutely superb! I had the chicken steak which came with not 1, nor 2 but 3, 3 veggie sides. Pluse biscuits n cornbread for the table. I never had chicken steak before but it was freakin good! A lil chewy but overall really really good. On of my sides was steak fries which were just perfect. Mash potatoes just perfect and dumplings which took me back to grama's home cooked dumplings. With the nostalgic feel of the interior and exterior of this resturant and the GREAT food here at Cracker Barrel, it is a must eat. I will most definitely be back for more. read more

Normally I avoid chain restaurants because, quite frankly, I don't like overly processed food and I'd rather support small businesses. Also, my kids can't get enough of the gourmet food known as chicken nuggets and I'm always in the drive throughs. Ugh. We met some extended family here for breakfast the other day and I have to say that it was excellent. I'd eaten here before but I finally decided it was worth posting a review. We had an eclectic bunch of eaters - the kids did pancakes (with various fruit toppings of which the blackberry was to die for). I did the low carb dish with eggs, double bacon and tomatoes. One person ordered an entree with biscuits and gravy. One ordered cereal. One ordered eggs, sausage, and grits. All of the food was good. The coffee was always served hot and it was pretty decent. The best part is that we were able to feed 9 people with different breakfast favorites and nobody had to cook and slave over the stove at 8:30 in the morning. The service left something to be desired - some things were overlooked - but I don't usually ding a place on their wait staff - unless it was completely offensive. I have never encountered a more disrespectful and rude manager than I have when dealing with Steve at this location. We waited over an hour for our food. When we asked to speak to a manager, he brought the food out and when pressed about the situation, he said "some times things like this happen". We kept pressing that others that were sat much later than us already had their food, he never took ownership or acknowledged our issue. Instead, he walked away from our table while I was pleading our case. Walked away. While I was speaking. I have never been treated like this even by my worst enemy. Upon reviewing our food, it was cold. We did not touch our food. At this point, we needed our four year old to eat. The manager came back, asked if we needed anything else, drinks, etc. He still didn't apologize or offer a solution. The waiter, Christian, came over to apologize. We made it clear we were not willing to pay for the untouched cold food, but would pay for what our son ate. He brought a revised check.
