We've been to Midgley's a few times, but this time service wasn't the best. I think they only had one waitress and bus boy on a Wednesday night. Our waitress came by and dropped off water then we didn't see her again for about 5-10 mins. She came back and took our drink orders and said she would bring bread another 10-15 we got drinks no bread. Finally she came back and took our food orders after we had been already sitting for 45 mins. Honestly I was ready to go to another restaurant in the area because I've never waited this long. We hadn't been to Midgley's since the management/ownership change a while back. We had had poor service experiences here before. We thought we'd give it a new chance, had high hopes , and were looking forward to dinner on Friday. New management, same poor hospitality. We won't ever be back. Made reservations 3 weeks in advance through Open Table. Stated that this was a date night and that we had a show to see after dinner. Arrived at 5:15pm for our 5:30 reservation. As I opened the door for my wife to enter the restaurant, a female employee came barreling out of the door with a plate of food in her hand, without saying a word. My wife had to jump out of the way to avoid being run into. As I approached the hostess station, the same employee came running back through - between me and the hostess station, again without a word. We thought, maybe she'll apologize for her rude behavior. Nope. No acknowledgment of our physical presence, no apology, no "excuse me", no "I'm sorry" - nothing. As I turned back to the hostess station, I overheard the hostess speak to another couple saying, "I know that you said that you'd prefer a table away from the door but this is the only table that I have available . . " (As she motioned toward the booth facing the front door, which is also next to the kitchen door). The other couple said that they'd wait. I assumed that that table was open for walk-ins. I confidently approached the hostess and stated that we had reservations for 5:30. The hostess then motioned to the same table that the couple before us had rejected, and said, "This is all that I have available. Will that be ok?" I said, "No, it's not ok. How long for a better table?" "40 minutes at least. Will that be ok?" "No, it's not ok. We have dinner reservations for a special occasion, and a show time to make downtown. We'll take our business elsewhere, where it will be appreciated." We came on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, towards the end of the lunch rush. But the restaurant must have been severely short handed. We were sat immediately, but it took our server about 15 minutes to take our order and roughly 45 minutes to get our food. Our table of 4 ordered 2 burgers, a wrap and I ordered their garden salad. My side salad was delivered last. My salad was good, but had a bit too much onion and unfortunately, the onions were on the strong side. I shared some bites of my fiancé's burger, and it was delicious. While I really enjoyed his burger, I don't think we'll be coming back any time soon just because it took so long to be served. But it became apparent quickly that the staff was stretched thin. Empty tables on the patio from prior guests still had plates and cups on them waiting to be bussed. Our server was trying to be attentive while managing her other duties, but our order wasn't taken until 15 minutes after being seated. It took another 35-40 minutes before our food was served (we all had burgers). The food was great. The burger was big, tasty, served with crispy fries. I would 100% order it again. Overall, the burger was great, but the speed of service was subpar. The staff was friendly and were working hard, but they needed another 2-3 people working this shift. Midgley's is an older restaurant now, and it shows on their hardcover menus which are quite worn. We went to Midgely's Public House on December 23rd to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant is located in Lincoln Village in Stockton and the entire area was beautifully decorated for Christmas. I booked a reservation through Open Table and check-in was simple and easy. The lady who checked us in also wished us a Happy Anniversary which was nice! The hostess took us to a table that wasn't clean, but we stood by waiting while she quickly bussed and cleaned it. This was a little strange since the restaurant was empty and there were plenty of booths and tables available. Our server, was great - very attentive and friendly. My husband and I ordered a dozen oysters which were superb, flavorful and good sized. I had a Bailey's coffee and my husband ordered a crisp Savignon Blanc. We shared a French Onion soup (perfection) and each ordered the house ribeye steaks which were nicely done. For dessert, we split a creme brulee which was delicious. Can't stop thinking about that chicken bacon ranch wrap with a side of chowder!! I've gotten the chance to stop by a couple times and Everytime I get the same thing because it's so good, I don't want to have anything else. I seriously crave for more a week later I always come specifically for Midgleys but there are so many other things near that make it easy to stop by on the way which is always convenient. Parking is easy with a private lot and the area is nice. I have actually never eaten inside as they have a great outdoor seating area - and when I've gone inside it seems kinda dark. I've always wanted to go to Midgley's , heard so much about it. Got my chance a few weeks ago- went to lunch there with one of my friends - who had dined there before. It was a Friday, I ordered clam chowder -New England style and Fish and chips . My order arrived, the clam chowder did not look right- the color looked like grey dishwater, I tasted it-not good ! So thick and lumpy , almost like it could be cut with a KNIFE. Took two bites - that was it. The Fish and Chips - weren't CHIPS , it was a while fish the size of a rainbow trout or a whole salmon- encased - in a thick fried batter. I chopped away the batter to get to the actual fish , probably cod - nothing memorable about it, nothing bad -eaten to satisfy hunger pains. The chips - lots and lots , like huge super serving - and nondescript. Besides the fish , removed from the batter shell and a few of the chips, I hardly ate any of this order. And, to add to the bad experience, the check almost totaled $40. with tip, for a meal of just a few bites, The service- the first waitress did'n't act like that was her regular job, definitely not a professional - she wasn't rude -just not really into it. The second waitress was excellent. Lastly , the ambiance - rather loud, so as to be distracting. Yes, I know it's a pub , but we weren't at the bar, we were seated in booths. On March 13, 2025 around 3:30pm, me and my husband stop by to grab a late lunch. We order an SJM Burger and a Cheeseburger and a appetizer which was prime rib, sliders, we were waiting for our order. My husband was falling asleep by the time it was 5 o'clock that's where we got our burgers mine did not come with caramelize onions. Our food did not feel like it was fresh felt like it was under a warm lamp for a while now. We have been here for a very long time and the food was taking forever (45 mins) to get its kind of ridiculous. I never went to a place where my burgers were gourmet and it took at least 5-10 minutes long not a whole hour. Mind you it wasn't busy at 3pm so I have no idea what's going on? Is it the cooks fault or is it the waiter fault? Our waiter Devin; was okay he was more distracted talking to his table behind us maybe it's the way we were dress like we didn't have money to pay for 2 burgers and a sliders or I maybe wrong but he was chatting it up with them for at least more then 15- 20 minutes. By this time my husband was getting sleepy and just lost his appetite for his food. I lost mines way long ago when I found out we been there for more than an hour for a burger!! Mind you the couple behind us was seated after us and got their food before us. The food quality did not match the prices. The ahi poke nachos had way too much sauce--so much that it felt like it was covering up a fishy smell rather than enhancing the dish. I've had better steak at places like BJ's, Outback, and Texas Roadhouse for a lower price. The vegetables were also better elsewhere. The mashed potatoes were watery and didn't taste like they were made from fresh potatoes--they came off as powdered, or at least very low quality. Garlic fries were decent. Chicken wings were okay. Sweet potatoes were nothing special--you can get the same quality elsewhere, even from a chef store. For fish and chips, I'd recommend going to a place that specializes in it if that's what you're craving. Same with burgers--better to go to a dedicated burger restaurant. One person didn't like any of the two reds and wanted a white wine instead but based on how the server replied and seems they're a bit stingy, we didn't bother asking to try a sample and just got a glass of the white instead without trying it. Appetizer: the asparagus wrapped things were not good. They had zero flavor and totally bland. And the sweet chili dipping sauce was just an odd choice. An aioli would've been better. 1/5 stars. My ribeye was delicious (5/5) and cooked how I wanted. Last time I didn't like the potatoes it came with so this time I asked to swap for mashed potatoes. Much better ! A few of us didn't finish our dinner and another server asked if I wanted him to box it for me. I said sure. I opened the box before we left to ensure my steak was in there. All good. I didn't see my mashed potatoes or aspargus and figured they were under the steak. When I got home, no mashed potatoes or asparagus so, that tells me they were tossed. This was quite disappointing. I asked our server if they did anything for birthdays like an ice cream scoop or something. They will bring you complimentary bread and butter to start off. I'd been following their IG, so we decided to share the scrumptious Tomahawk, knowing full well their portions are HUGE! It was more than enough, and we couldn't even finish it, lol. We each had a good portion of leftovers to take with us. This ribeye was absolutely perfect in every way. It was cooked medium, just as we requested, and the presentation was glorious! They'll even cut it up for you upon request! The drinks were on point, with just the right amount of alcohol. The prices here are amazing, and I'm already sad knowing that they will probably increase by the time I come back. Darn inevitable inflation! =( They also offer specials, so check those out, too. stopped by during a weekday for a (not so) little girl dinner with my friend. our server was very friendly & attentive. we started off our meal with some cocktails. i got the huckleberry lemon drop, which i highly recommend for those who enjoy something on the sweeter side. i chose the ribeye for my entree, which comes with garlic roasted red potatoes & vegetables. i opted out of the vegetables and got a caesar salad instead, and was surprised by how much it came with. i got my steak cooked medium and was pleased with how it came out. the portions of the entrees themselves were huge and could easily be enough to feed two. my friend and i both ended up taking leftovers home because we were so full. midgley's is definitely on the pricier side, but i'd definitely recommend it if you're in the mood to treat yourself. their tomahawk steak is also delish and worth a try.
