I met some longtime great friends of mine for lunch the other day at Lumberjack's in Stockton. I had had breakfast there a couple years ago and remembered the food being pretty good. My friends were driving out from the Bay Area and wanted a"Black Bear" type of meal and settled on this. I arrived first and was immediately greeted by a very friendly staffer. She gave me a choice of table or booth and sat me in a location where I could easily be seen by my arriving party. The restaurant was clean and spacious. Our waitress brought menus and took drink orders once my guests arrived. Everything on the menu sounded delicious but I had already decided I was having a chicken fried steak! It did not disappoint and it comes with two eggs any style, and choice of sides, which I had hash browns, and choice of toast. I got sliced sourdough but one of my friends got a biscuit with her corned beef hash that looked amazing! I'll definitely go that route next time! Overall, our dining experience was excellent. I used to come here as a kid every single weekend with my family. Over the years, the food has stayed consistently the same as I remembered. The service was a bit slow since it was busy on a Saturday morning, but our server was friendly and as fast as she could be. Lumberjack still looks the same with a cottage/cabin vibe when you walk in with all the wood. I recommend trying their breakfast platters as they taste really good. They also offer early bird dinners. We got the special of the day which was a breakfast steak with hash browns and eggs. My nephew got a biscuit and gravy dish and added sausage. So, I had been going to Denny's in Lodi & Stockton for years, but that restaurant chain has gone totally down the tubes... sad but true. Therefore, I thought I'd give Lumberjacks a shot. PROS - - Within 45 seconds of entering the restaurant, this young dude named Mike guided us to our table, with menus and silverware in hand, served us water and informed us that our waitress would be with us soon. (If this were Denny's, we'd be waiting forever, and when we finally got our table, it would take 10 minutes just to get menus and then another 10 minutes to order.) Our waitress Rachel was very pleasant, energetic and took our orders right away. When the folks from the booth next to us cleared, Mike was cleaning up the table within one minute of its vacancy. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT: Give Mike & Rachel raises ASAP. - While we were waiting for our meals, I was reading some of the other Yelp reviews on this venue, and was surprised to see all the negative comments. Was worried that my order might be unsatisfactory. I ordered Ribeye Steak & Eggs and it was DELICIOUS, and the food volume was large, as advertised. What was also impressive was that once the steak was done, the kitchen staff brought the piping hot plate to our table immediately. (If this were Denny's, the steak would have languished on the pick up counter for several minutes until someone had the time to bring the dish to our table.) - The restroom was clean, which also means a clean kitchen and food storage & preparation. CONS - Like Denny's, the interior temperature was cold, meaning that management is trying to cut electricity costs. If the temperature in this restaurant was warm, I'd give my review 5 stars. If you like big portions of food, this is the right place for you. The price fits for each meal. Love their seasoned fries and sweat potatoes wedges. We ordered 3 for party of four. The first server who took our order for our drinks kind of took a long time for him to serve our drinks. The second server who got our food order has to check on it and direct order him to bring it to our table. Which the lady apologize for the delay of service. Went here on a roadtrip with my family. We arrived just a little before close, we didn't check the time so I know that's frustrating and we probably wouldn't be getting the freshest they had to offer. That being said, the food was cold, everything had a very strange flavor, like cleaning product, and nothing was appetizing. Even my prime rib was very fatty, cold, and lacking flavor despite looking delicious. My niece's soda tested like straight Ajax bleach, we both agreed not to drink it. I assume since they were closing they probably had been cleaning up and we were tasting some of that. Not sure. Best thing by far was their bread and honey butter. Waitress was EXTREMELY kind though and very very sweet. Service was fine. But for the price, go somewhere else. We barely touched our food. read more

The three of us decided on Lumberjack's today. When we walked in I noticed everyone was enjoying their food and each other family style. We ordered and received really good service. Our food was really good and satisfying. My son suggested coming here because he wanted corned beef hash, my husband had the prime rib breakfast, and I had the prime rib dinner, it came with a salad bread and mashed potatoes. The reviews don't do this place justice. Had the sausage patties which were delicious along with biscuits and gravy which were also delicious. The server was quick and kind which is always appreciated. The atmosphere was nice, even though it was packed it didn't feel crowded nor overly noisy. I had a really disappointing experience at Lumberjacks in Stockton. When my family and I walked in, we were not greeted at all, even though there were at least 10 servers standing around talking. After waiting, someone finally seated us. As we were getting settled, a male server who was NOT our server kept hovering over our table, pacing back and forth, and staring at us. It was extremely uncomfortable and unnecessary. That same server--again, not our assigned server--asked for our drink order. My boyfriend ordered a mimosa but had forgotten his ID. He is clearly well over 21 with heavy facial hair. I ordered a mimosa also, and my boyfriend took a drink. Shortly after, the manager came to our table and aggressively confronted him, saying he needed to present ID if he was going to drink it. The interaction felt more like harassment than policy enforcement. We ended up canceling our order altogether. Between the lack of greeting, the hovering and staring, and the way we were treated over a drink, the whole experience felt targeted and uncomfortable. As Black customers, it was hard not to feel singled out. We will NOT be returning!! Zero Stars!! But you need to put a rating to post a review. read more

The food was great. However, our server Kaylin; who was a nice server, but after asking for only a couple mins to look over the menu we waited for almost 15 mins to order. There was no rush or a mass amount of people walking in at such time. She waited on other tables and had a habit of always looking up and making sure her head was turned so she would walk past without noticing us or make any kind of eye contact. Came to have a birthday breakfast/lunch with my son. Was asked if a table was ok but I asked if we could get one if the booths in the back. The male host told us that the back was closed, even though people were using the back area. Our server was really nice but she took too long to come back to take our order. The time to get our food was really long, but the food was hot and fresh. The BBQ sauce on the chicken sandwich was alright. Not something I will be getting again. We had lunch today and it was good comfort food as usual. The only small problem was my hash burns were not crispy as I ordered them. About this time the waiter seated a family of 3, a very large creepy obese man, his obese wife and their teenage daughter. I heard the daughter order hash burns crispy like I did. I told my wife that I bet she don't get them crispy either. When their food arrived I noticed her burns were not looking crispy either and I remarked to my wife,,,see, not crispy ! Then this teenager yelled at me to shut the F up. We were so appalled and astonished that this girl would talk like that to someone who is almost 70. Then the mother started yelling at me to shut up over and over, yelling. I tried says that I did not get crispy burns either. Then this big hillbilly looking fat slob got up and started telling to go outside and fight. Wtf did these strange derelicts come from? The waiter heard all this and just walked away. I told this slob I wasn't going to fight over hash brns and then ignored him. They were the customers from hell. Wanted to fight inside the restaurant . What a posall over some hash . The lady manager /staff apologized for this obese creatures actions. I told them it's not their fault. It's a shame psych people like this are let out in public. I never curse but this time it's called for. The daughter's horrible actions are just a reflection of her horrible parents. Took 10-15 minutes to be sat (it wasn't busy), got cut in line, then took 20 more minutes to get my order taken and another 30 to receive my food which was burnt and basically inedible, very bland. My mom & I had been wanting to try this breakfast place for a while now. Parking lot is large and was pretty packed when we arrived. We walked in and we're immediately greeted. Many tables and booths and a small bar area. We asked for a booth. My moms simple when it comes to breakfast. Her meal is always pancakes, scrambled eggs & bacon. Pancakes on a separate plate lol. Let me tell you... I've never met a lumberjack.. but if this is how they eat.. UNBELIEVABLE. My moms pancakes were huge! They also had a strong batter taste which neither of us were a fan of. She didn't order eggs this time she was full from the night before (Mothers Day we had an early dinner at her favorite place) Bacon wasn't too thick or thin and tasted good. I got a half order of biscuits and gravy & side of bacon. The gravy had like no sausage or flavor and the biscuit was really doughy.. I wouldn't order it again. We also got water and hot chocolate. I enjoyed how they had the half & half's at the table! Those are my favorite I like to sit and drink them lol. I also asked our waitress for extra bowl of them and she didn't mind giving her to us. Visited 7/20/2025 Honestly, the food just wasn't good. Our French toast was horrible, I can bet it was just dipped an egg and thrown on the grill. The bread was also not good. It was supposed to be on brioche and there's no way they served us brioche bread. I'm a baker with over 13 years of culinary experience that couldn't have been fresh bread or even bread of good quality. We ordered chicken strips as an appetizer, and they brought them out with the rest of our food. The chicken strips were so hard that we could not eat them. It tasted as if the grease was not only dirty like they dropped them for too long in the oil as well. My mother ordered country potatoes and they were burnt on one side undercooked on the other and it seemed like there were multiple people in the kitchen and staff on hand so I'm not sure why the service and food quality was so poor. Eggs and bacon were OK. As for the cleanliness , the table was dirty when they tried to seat us, the windowsill next to us was caked in dust and ketchup. A couple walked in after us and had the same experience, they weren't greeted upon entering the restaurant, waited for our staff to assist them, When they were seated, they saw how dirty it was, and noticed the lack of service and got up and left. We should've followed suit and done the same instead of wasting time and money. I think the staff and cooks need to be retrained immediately and there should be more focused on customer service and quality control than the staff talking about how tired they are from their wild weekends. Ordered the big jack skillet and was given the blandest breakfast ever. Hard unseasoned potatoes with raw bell pepper thrown all over like an after thought. The gravy has to be canned. There was no flavor. The only thing that tasted good was the sausage crumbles. The coffee is acidic and burnt to where you can't even drink it. $8 for the coffee alone. Will not be going back. I absolutely love the chicken noodle soup at lumberjack. I went there for my lunch break today because I read that they have chicken noodle soup every day so I tried it and it is really good. It actually tastes homemade. I have a feeling I'm going to be going there for soup almost at least once a week, especially when it rains. read more

I've TRIED eating here twice in the past week, and they are horrible at greeting their customers and seating them. I (singular guest) was sitting in the lobby for about 15 minutes. Waiting for a seat, a party of 4 walk in and they seat them over me. I know the staff saw me. Btw, Im dressed wearing shoes, shorts and T-shirt, and clean shaven, so no issues there. I'm disappointed this has happened twice now, I hope the owner, who I saw working back on the grill, will address this with his staff. Ok so I'll still give this place 5 stars because the food is always good. I'm writing this review because this morning along with our meals I wanted a slice of pumpkin pie. I expected it to be maybe $5 for a slice. I couldn't believe it was $10 for a slice of pumpkin pie. I could have gotten a whole pie for that price, it's CRAZY. They didn't want to adjust the price or anything I was so surprised. We ate it so yes I paid for it. My advice, don't get a slice or ask the price. We came in as a party of six, and while our waitress Gabby was friendly, apologetic, and attentive throughout the experience, one plate did not come out and after about 30-45 minutes I canceled it because everyone else at the table had already finished eating. I went to Lumberjack's and ordered steak and eggs for breakfast. I didn't want toast so I asked to swap it for two pancakes instead. I got the bill and steak, eggs, and hash browns with coffee was $28 and change. They charged me a $3 fee to swap my toast and $6 more for two pancakes!! My total was $40 and change. How did asking for pancakes take me from $28+ to just over $40? TWELVE BUCKS FOR PANCAKES?!?! What a rip-off... I'm not going back to Lumberjack's. read more
