It was a beautiful chilly Saturday and I was craving Shrimp tempura. So I headed to my usual Momiji spot to find they are now closed on Saturday afternoon. Panic set in as I tried to find a replacement lunch location with Tempura. As usual Yelp found me a solution. I have been meaning to try Midori Sushi and this was a perfect time. Finding the place with ease and a parking space in front of the door. It is a small intimate dining space with wall dividers separating the booths. the décor was not too cheesy like some places. It was quite empty so service was very attentive. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Bento box. Within minutes my soup and salad were brought to the table. The miso soup was good with plenty of tofu, seaweed, and green onions in it. The ginger dressing was just the right amount and tasty. When the Bento box arrived, I was almost full from the soup and salad. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the dipping sauce...OMG so good. The rest in the box is, of course, rice, and lots of sushi. After finishing the shrimp, I asked for a To Go box. Dinner that night was sushi. Unfortunately the sushi didn't taste so fresh but it could be my fault for waiting. So I will give them another try on sushi when I can eat it in the restaurant. The Lunch Special price on Bento boxes were good for weekends also. So far about 10 bucks I had a very satisfying lunch and dinner. read more

Second time coming and yess midori does not dissappoint! The Dynamite Roll killed me at the end! For two people 3 rolls will get you really full! I love how they give you 10% with a yelp review too! I recommend this place for people that want high quality sushi. All the employees are super nice and even though they were packed when i came in, they quickly cleaned up a table for us so we waited only like 5 min! read more

Being born and Raised from "Hawai'i" this place always hits a home run. Hawai'i has so much food diversity it's not even funny! By I'm so thankful for Midori Sushi my whole family loves this place. Back here after several years and this spot is still excellent. Great service friendly and fast. Chef staff are also friendly so sit at the bar! Today it's traditional and Saba and anago with Ankimo. Yum ! read more

It was my mom and I's first time here and when we walked we were immediately taken by the atmosphere; it took us right back to Japan (my brother lives in Japan so my mom and I will try different sushi spots and tell him about it.) The whole restaurant is lit by tatami lamps and with the added decor it was just beautiful. Service was wonderful as well, our waitress was so sweet, and the food was amazing. I had the gyoza, miso soup, and shrimp tempura bento box. What I loved about this place is you can tell the chefs enjoy their artistry and have taken time to craft these pieces well. I'll definitely be recommending this place to friends and family, telling my brother about this experience, and coming back soon! read more

I love that they offer a salmon combo during lunch rush. When that time of the month arrives and I need a boost in my iron, I head here on my lunch break and feel much better after ordering this meal! I am not sorry for introducing my office to this place. I now have coworkers driving all the way from east Austin to eat here with their families! I am also in love with the diverse seating option. There are booths, tables, and tatami seating options! Because I love all three, it doesn't matter where I get seated here. read more

This is my favorite sushi restaurant. I have travelled 1000 miles on multiple occasions to eat here. The staff is always friendly, every year they continue to be super friendly on your entrance and departure! The quality and quantity of food is amazing. I love their Midori sauce so much. I've been coming here over 5 years. My last visit was just as wonderful, but my good friends need to make some improvements! The booth seats have started to tear. I don't remmeber them being too worn last year, but they do need replacement. Along with their little shelves that hold their soy sauce on the wall. The wood is swollen and worn out. None of this effects the food or really the experience but is a bit of an eye sore read more

I go there bi-weekly? They've consistently served me good sushi; Their lunch specials are great. I love their spicy tuna rolls. They messed up my order once, but they fixed it no problem and gave me a bit extra. I've basically been going there for years, it's that good. Typical Japanese restaurant. When you enter you are greeted in traditional jolly manner by the staff. At the front of the house you have table setup. On the side you have individual booths and in the back is the sushi bar. The staff is very nice and provide prompt and efficient service with a big smile. I decided to sit at the bar and had a plate of sashimi. The fish is very high quality and the chef took great effort to make the presentation a priority. I really enjoyed my time dining at this establishment. read more

We do love the food here but we have bad multiple experiences now with one server. My husband works a job where when hes busy I dont see him or have any contact with him so when we have 20 minutes 30 minutes 2 hours together we find the time and fun ways to spend it. We love this place we do. But this one male server we keep getting lately makes us so uncomfortable. We like to share Sake while we have some apps and chat. My husband enjoys a couple beers for himself while we dine as well. Sometimes we are on more of a time crunch. Everytime we go we enjoy a few things of sake split. This server has made it a point to humiliate us for drinking and to tell us he is counting what we drink and not okay with it! I have worked in the service industry for many many years and TABC certified over and over again. I can promise you this is NOT normal or okay. Customers should never be shamed especially if they are not acting out of hand. We will sadly not be going back here, read more

Oh Midori! I have such a deep love for you! As I've said before, I am a self proclaimed sushi snob.. and this place makes me very, very happy! In my opinion, this is where you will find some of the very best sushi in Austin. The staff is always quick to greet you, seat you, and take care of your needs. Marilyn Monroe Roll - Out of this world! Any lunchtime bento box - Incredible! Honestly... every single roll I've ever had is absolutely delicious. This restaurant is the one that converted my non-sushi-liking husband into one that now suggests Midori for lunch! Prices at lunch are great if you get a special. Between $8 and $14 depending on what you get. By far, the bento box is a deal and there are several choices, along with the sushi that comes with. I usually get the Dragon Roll or Rainbow Roll combo and it's never a disappointment. Please never change. I would be horribly disappointed if I couldn't come and eat some of the best sushi I've ever tasted! read more

Love this place, the portions are big, you don't feel like you are getting tiny pieces of sushi at expensive prices. The tuna tower is amazing and huge. Loved the Candy Cane roll as well as all the classics. It's been my go-to place since my Asian barber shop girl told me it was the best in town. read more

Amazing food. Amazing service. Always. Try the Red Dragon Roll and their Calamari. You will NOT be disappointed. Even during this Covid crap they're surviving and that makes me happy. I'd hate for them to succumb financially. Whenever I go in there for take out now they always seem to have many, many orders waiting for other people. Stay strong Midori! Things will get back to normal...eventually. read more

Meh. Not impressed with Midori Sushi. Average sushi, mid range presentation, service was a mess. I'd put in same level as sushi you get at HEB. Very expensive, contrary to other reviews, it was not a good deal. Thumbs down for me. read more

The sushi rolls are HUGE here!! I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants, and I have to say this is my favorite sushi restaurant in Austin. Temptation roll is my favorite here! Portion size is huge; it literally takes 2-3 bites to finish one piece of roll. Fish are all fresh and juicy, especially salmon. I highly recommend the salmon hand roll! There's a lot of salmon inside the roll so it's worth your money. Service is phenomenal, nothing to complain about. I love how there are traditional oriental tables available where you can sit on the floor. This is the perfect place to come with a group of friends or even with your significant other! Amazingly good, top-quality sushi. I got the chirashi, which at $29 was a bit pricier than I'm accustomed to, but it turned out to be worth every penny in both the freshness and quality of every piece of sashimi and the generosity of the portions. You know how sometimes memories are better than the actual experience when you revisit someplace? Not at Midori. I was in the area after work and decided to stop in for old times' sake. Midori continues to be a place that I measure new sushi experiences to. For example, I forgot how generous the portions are. Waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. I came around the witching hour between afternoon and evening rush and never waited for anything. The spacious booth was a glorious transition between a busy day and my evening. Will start off by saying we love the sushi here. With that out of the way, we noticed that 2 orders ago they raised the price of our normal $35 order to $43. OK, COVID and all that. Then when we get home there are things missing from the order. And my wife's favorite chef salad was about 2/3 the usual size and didn't taste fresh. Tried to call, no answer, and not running back up to get the missing sauces. Midori, if your reading this suggest stepping it up. The missing items/smaller servings along with the price hike have caused us to start looking around for alternatives. read more

It is often what you serve on "cheap" night. Airport hotels offer it as the "free dinner" for tired travellers. The curry sauce itself here is standard issue. But they serve it with a Pork Katsu the size of Williamson county. And it is a very good Pork Katsu. That Katsu was good from Liberty Hill to Thrall and from Hester's Crossing to Jarrell. b) My carnivorous partner's Fireball Udon with Shellfish blew him away. Sometimes when this happens there is an ownership change (or there is an owner who swaps out the management and cooking team to put in new blood.) However, things got fixed, they got fixed. c) Miyo's yakitori is apparently still not where it needs to be. I am not a huge Yakitori fan. If your broiled meat on a stick is not $80 an ounce Wagyu, Or amazing organ meats grilled in the Caucasus Barded with lamb fat and with farm fresh vegetables On another skewer for serious taste contrast ... If you are not at that high level, I don't want to pay for meat on a skewer. There are people who DO like Yakitori. I have no idea what the people rating this place above 2 stars are thinking. This place is TERRIBAD. It looks like a typical sushi place when you walk in and has cool private booths you can sit at, but everything else about this place is a joke. We ordered 2 plates of sashimi and a couple rolls. When we ordered, we asked the waitress if she got that we wanted 2xSashimi plates + 2 rolls, and she assured us she understood our order. I also ordered a beer and my girlfriend ordered a glass of white wine. The food came out and sure enough, only 1 plate of sashimi. We had just driven in from Houston and really just wanted to eat some good food, so didn't even care that we would have to wait for it, we just wanted to get some more food on the table. We asked our waitress if there was another plate coming out and she whipped out her order notebook in a panicked manner and pointed at our order stating "you no order!! you no order!! yo only order THIS!" I should have tried to food before ordering more, because if I had know how bad it was I wouldn't have bothered. Besides being cut way too thick, the sashimi was FROZEN inside! Not completely frozen, but there were definitely ice crystals inside my food. Fail. We ordered a couple rolls as well and both were soggy with no texture and covered in eel sauce that tasted like it was about to go bad. I guess we scared the waitress off when we ordered more food (????) because we never saw her again. The next time I saw someone was when I flagged another passing waiter down for the check. No refills on water, no refills on my beer or my girlfriend's wine. Frozen sushi. Soggy rolls. No one ever checked on us at all. Terrible service. read more

My first experience at Midori was on my 2nd date with my now husband almost 4 years ago! For the next year we ate at Midori every weekend until, sadly we had to move away from Austin. Now we live in Dallas and we come back to Austin at least once a year specifically for Midori Sushi! We cannot get enough! Every time we are there we BEG them to open up a 2nd restaurant (or just move this one) to Dallas! Even though it's in a strip mall with an abandoned Albertson's, once inside you are transported to the wonderful world of delicious sushi and wonderful atmosphere. You will forget that it's located in a strip mall once inside. The Midori Boca Raton roll and the Texas Roll are literally the #1 and #2 things I have EVER eaten. This is not only the best sushi in Austin, but it would have to be some of the best sushi in Texas if not America. We have tried for the past 2.5 years to find a place that is as good in Dallas, but we cannot do it. Midori has no competition, I have not eaten anything (sushi or anything else) that comes close to the deliciousness of this place. Everyone is so friendly, and I love the intimacy that is created inside. I LOVE THIS PLACE. It is worth the drive no matter where you are. I am having a wonderful lunch at this cute little restaurant three minutes from my house. I am trading my seven-year-old granddaughter to a Wonderful and amazing $14 Bento Box lunch. What A bargain. Grocery store sushi cost almost the same price and certainly Doesn't he have the variety of this wonderful feast. I try to eat here at least once a week and usually it's what I do times a week. It is my pleasure is my treat to myself. It is the A Bento box call has five compartments each with a different treat. It's really pretty cool to look at. So mine includes gone: of tempura dhrimp, sushi, salmon roll, California rolls, PLUS, they also serve you miso soup and a Wonderful vinegar/Sweet salad. Are usually have to carry a take-home box. In summer It is in a perfect location, at 183 and Anderson Mill Road - - right next to the big golds gym. Tons of parking. In summary this is one of my favorite restaurants on. Some people might criticize me for getting "stuck "ordering only this particular tempura Bento box when there are hundreds of other items and options, but I am a creature of delicious habits. Updated Review I'm a reasonable person so I'm going to update this review. Chris did eventually refund my money and asked me to update my review. The bottom line is that the reviews on the place are bought and therefore skewed. This is not high quality sushi. If you're looking for that this would not be my recommendation. I can not in good conscious recommend this place to anyone. If you're looking for sub par sushi that's slightly over priced then go here. I just can't get behind misrepresentation. I know owning a restaurant is not easy, but if you're not passionate about it then do something else...... Midori if you want to win at the sushi game done try to out smart your customer. Provide them quality food at a fair price. Initial Review: They give 10% off for people to review them. Uni, EBI, octopus all bad. The first time a friend invited me to go out for sushi I was a little bit wary. We went to Midori Shushi and I've become a regular. There is a common misconception that all sushi is raw. This is not the case. Many of the items are cooked. One day I got adventurous and tried one of their specials of the day, live scallops, well almost live. They sliced 'em up just before they serve them. Mmmm good. What is really cool is when you sit at the sushi bar. They recognize you and even give you some special samples. Last Christmas my wife and I got some fancy chop sticks as a gift. We keep leaving them at home in our china cabinet. I think we need to move them to the glove box now. If someone in your party does not want to be so adventurous they can still get some regular Chinese food. I've tried many sushi bars around town, in Hawaii and on a cruise ship. My girlfriend and I like to go here a lot. She always gets the teriyaki chicken and it is cooked to perfection. I mostly stick to the cooked sushi as I am not a big fan of sashimi (raw sushi). The server always makes sure that I get what I want whether I do not like cucumbers or avocado. The chefs and everyone always greet us when we come in and it makes for a very warm environment. Price-wise, it is a sushi restaurant so of course it is a little pricey but I would say you get what you pay for here. read more

Definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, I can't believe I've never noticed this place! I ordered the sushi combo and it was very fresh and tasty even though it was only an hour before close! Tempura appetizer plate was flavorful and perfectly fried, and the yakisoba platter was amazing as well. Fantastic way to start the week! The ambience is inviting with beautiful 3D artwork decorating the walls. The semi-enclosed seating is comfy and intimate. Also I've never been served cooked scallop at a sushi restaurant, generally it's slightly torched or dressed in some creamy mayo type based. The scallop handroll caught me off guard bc it was cooked and chewy. By the 4th roll I literally couldn't eat anymore bc of how much fish was served in each hand roll which generally should be a plus but because the fish seemed not as fresh, it was hard to enjoy. The girls I was with ordered several nigiri which also had noticeable large portions of fish but most of them were covered in additional toppings/sauces which help offset the fishiness.
