We hosted a LARGE holiday party at Midtown Bistro, and it was WONDERFUL! We had 25 people and Edmund and the team made the planning a breeze. Everyone loved their Entrees as well as the great table apps he put out. (I had the duck and it was SOO tender!) They have a very large private room that was perfect for our needs. My boss specifically requested that we have a private dining area (which is difficult to accommodate, ESPECIALLY during the holidays) and they were able. The desert was to die for. We simply had an excellent time. Also, my boss takes many of his business meetings there for lunch and is ALWAYS pleased with the service and the food. Really top notch! read more

I'm very sad to write this review because I have loved this place since the first time I ate here. But the truly bad experience I just had means I won't be going back. I and my party arrived on time for our reservation and were promptly seated. That was the end of any attention we received. In the 30 minutes that passed before we got up and left, no server approached our table, no host came to apologize, no one offered us drinks, and no one responded when we started waving our hands to get attention. The best interpretation we could put on this was that management had grossly underestimated the need for servers, even though everyone there had a reservation so they should have known. The worst interpretation is not pretty--that we were ignored because one of us had on a political t-shirt and one of us was Black. It's easy to see from this incident how people of color never really know what is going on when they get bad (or no) service, but the suspicion is always there. read more

This is by far the best place to eat in town, the food is magnificent, the service is always great, and the price is beyond lower than expected when walking in to a fancy restaurant. Went here last night while passing through Santa Fe. Ambience is very nice; perfect for a romantic evening (although I was by myself). Food quality was very good although I thought the menu was a bit pretentious and some of the items were definitely overpriced. A cup of soup is $8. While the food is very good, I don't think any soup is good enough to cost $8. Looking at the menu I'd say they're marking up their items quite a bit. But if you've got money to spend, the food is great! read more

One of the worst experiences ever. We waited close to 20 minutes before we were seated even though we had reservations. After another 20 minutes someone came over and said, "Are you ready to order?" He seemed put off when we said we wanted to order drinks first. He brought them and we ordered multiple courses. Calamari was the first, and it was mediocre at best. We never got to try any of the other food because of how long we waited (close to 40 minutes). Our server was missing the entire time. We finally decided to call it quits and ask for the check. Then the manager showed up. We we told him what the issue was, he literally said, "I don't want to hear about it!" Obviously, are are brutally understaffed, and they should adjust how many people they can handle. The real issue was how rude the manager was. Oh, one other thing: they shouldn't be storing all their wine bottles standing up. read more

First visit to this restaurant impressed me enough to go back. Second visit, never again. The over-breaded, greasy calamari accompanied by the mayonnaise flavored aioli and other tasteless dipping condiment left me contemplating the virtues of a vomitorium. I ordered the caesar salad at the waiter's suggestion; don't do that. The thick, creamy, fresh out of the bottle consistency only exacerbated the heavy, stick to every internal organ feeling of the meal. Though it's ok to be surrounded by beautiful people in a restaurant, the food better hold my focus because it's better than I can do at home, not because I'm looking at my plate hoping no one notices I'm turning green. Went for lunch with a friend. We both has mixed drinks which were very good. Service was close to excellent. I ordered the calamari, and was a little disappointed. Only 3/4 was actually "good", the rest was "acceptable" kind of like they mixed in yesterday's leftovers with today's fresh batch and hoped no one would notice. The sauces served with the calamari are heavy. One's syrupy and the other is creamy. If you want a delicious light sauce with some tasty calamari, I suggest Santa Cafe, although I haven't been there for that in ages. read more

We had a very nice dinner, and a very nice experience! The service was impeccable from the moment we walked in. We had no reservations and had been on a day trip down and back on the Turquoise Trail, and probably looked it! With no hesitation we were seated and felt immediately at home. The wine selection is limited in quantity but very nicely designed with an eye toward complimenting the menu. I see many huge wine lists with redundancies in style and very little breadth...this is nice to see on a small wine list. We enjoyed the chicken taquito appetizer and the amazingly good pork chop, prepared just as we ordered it. It is a nice combination of flavors that do not overpower the chop. The fresh bread was quite good and I know it is a little thing but I appreciate a restaurant that does not serve frozen butter! Thank you for not making me tear my bread apart! All in all, I would go back...and I recommend you do too! read more

I was here for lunch, I read the menu online before my arrival and was excited to order the meatloaf sandwich, first word out of my servers mouth was that they were out of meatloaf. Devastated, I ordered the Reuben sandwich, which I can honestly say is the best Reuben I have ever eaten! Every component of this sandwich was perfect! This came with potatoes that were perfectly cut into thin slices and fried to a golden brown and salted; the only problem is that they taste exactly like you put a lemon wedge in your mouth. My daughter liked them, my son loved them, I did not. I could not taste potato what so ever, only lemon. My daughter had calamari as an appetizer and it was a huge serving, she ate every bite, I tried two pieces and it was good considering I usually won't even try it because I flat out don't like calamari, the dipping sauces were delicious and I think that is what helped me, but like I said I don't like it but I think if you do, it is definitely worth a try. The breading was very light and tasty but it seemed to fall off just from picking it up and fell off even more to get to the dipping sauce, by then it was almost naked. The service was exceptional, water glasses were repeatedly filled, fresh bread and butter immediately placed on table, everyone was incredibly professional and made the entire meal so luxurious and pleasurable. Out of the way location. Cool, modern space. Attentive service. Terrific food. We had calamari - tender and crisp - and tuna tartar - spicy and fresh, both generously portioned, to start. A full rack of lamb arrived medium rare as requested. The chicken with polenta had Brussels sprouts - an unpleasant surprise to the diner, but his companion enjoyed their caramelized goodness. It is unusual to see reviews for a restaurant so diametric. For us the service was superb, the food tasty and the experience enormously pleasant. We had the arugula salad which was wonderful, the scallops on risotto, also wonderful, and the calamari which was adequate but not great. Good price on the wine. And a delightful key lime pie. No parking problems (paved and only a few steps to the door) and pleasing decor. We look forward to coming back. read more

I had a lovely lunch recently at this wonderful Santa Fe gem. I had heard of this place, but had never been there until this visit. All I can say is WOW! This place is truly wonderful. Hidden away in the warehouse populated area north of St. Michaels and west of St. Francis, MB is tucked beautifully along side a rock and fountain purveyor, which makes for a beautiful entrance. The restaurant itself is quite chic -- white table cloths, red leather chairs--very, very nice. The food is amazing too! Interesting menu, fresh, delightful choices, plentiful portions and good prices for Santa Fe. On this visit I had the 1/2 sandwich, salad and soup--a Reuben with gruyere which was delicious, with roasted sweet potato soup and a nice fresh salad. All wonderful. My friends loved their plates--blue corn enchiladas, a chicken sandwich, and the chipotle cream pasta special. All wonderful. We split two desserts too--the sticky toffee pudding which was really tasty and the chocolate cake, which sadly was the only disappointment--it was far too dry and crumbly. We all ended up wearing some of it because it wouldn't stay on the fork. Watching all the food pass us enrollee to other tables was quite enticing--mounds of fried calamari looked amazing, mammoth burgers, huge salads, and giant bowls of cream of green chile soup. Just ate here for the third and last time. First time had the pasta of the day which was ok but for $20 should be fantastic. Then tried lunch. Had the Arugula salad but they left off the polenta croutons. Asked for them, but they never arrived. Decided to try dinner again. Had To ask if there was any specials because she didn't offer to tell us. The waitress seemed put off because we decided not to have wine and then drive. Again had pasta because vegetarian choices are very limited here. Again ok but not great. If I want to have pasta again I will go to Andiamos. Great pasta and great prices. read more

It's a solid 3 because the staff is so friendly and wonderful. Overall, the food was okay, the setting comfortable, (though sort of strangely 80's) and the service was attentive and sweet. I think they definitely cater to the retired set---meaning the food is a bit overpriced for the small portions, perfect for folks with larger wallets and smaller appetites. Pluses were the bacon and the grilled bread and the cooks know how to make a very good omelet. The French toast could have had more "toast" and less of other ingredients, but had good flavor. Huge miss is the coffee, I am a broken record when it comes to this---Santa Fe, make better coffee!!!! If we wanted hot water, we'd just order that. Next time I'll order wine and definitely try the crab cakes! read more

I know I would never go there again. Though it is a lovely place when first you walk in with table clothes and a large mirror on the blank wall, the service was poor, very poor and uncaring. The waiter comes to ask if everything is all right and you know he really doesn't care one wit. 55 minutes from ordering until entree presented and the entree the pasta of the night was just pedestrian, a thin tasteless pesto sauce with shitake mushrooms which did not add any flavor. Three grilled shimp on top with a strange flavor. Naturally with the quality of the food and service we did not have dessert. We did have appetizers, my husband the sweet potato soup which was tasty but not served hot enough. I had a nice but plain ceasar salad but not something to write home about. read more

I have visited Midtown Bistro on multiple occasions usually leaving satisfied except for the inflated pricing of the food and especially the wine. I had dinner with a party of eight tonight. One of the members of our party ordered Taquitos only to bite into one of them and encounter a toothpick INSIDE the taquito. Fortunately the toothpick did not cause any oral damage but caused a certain degree of alarm. The issue was reported to one of the service staff and instructed to report it to the server. When the server arrived with the bill, she was unaware of the issue. Her response was a nonchalant and insincere apology. No concern was expressed about the possible personal injury that could have occurred. There was no manager present. When further challenged, she offered to remove the charge from the bill. All in all, a most unpleasant experience shared by a table of eight. Full agreement by all present NOT to return. read more

I have tried most of the lunch entrees and can recommend the salmon, the crab cakes (small), the Cobb salad and the mushroom soup (currently not on the menu). The steak in the steak salad was tough. There were only three shrimp, which very perfectly cooked, on the Nicoise salad. The salad greens remain very fresh though I have found the dressings nothing special. The fish n chips in my earlier review I tried again and they were over breaded, some of the breading fell off, they substituted sea bass without informing me, and one of the pieces was not tender. In both instances of sub par meals I was offered another choice after much of what I was served was consumed. The service remains good and courteous. I should also correct the previous review in that the building is not the old Cloud Cliff bakery; that building is next door. I should also note that finding parking at lunch time is a challenge. Final note: I have not tried the burgers. read more

Enjoyed a lovely Mothers Day brunch out on the patio. We had reservations for 10:30 am and were promptly sat. The place was packed. The inside is so elegant and very lovely as well but I love sitting outside by the rock water fountains. The owner was worried about the weather and even brought out heaters for us...so it was actually very cozy and lovely. I love supporting local restaurants and this was a great one for brunch. They have a lovely outdoor patio and great food. I enjoyed the mimosas and mascarpone fresh fruit French toast...the only bad thing was the bacon was not crispy enough. I don't like soggy bacon, and my husbands Reuben did not have thousand Island dressing on it (what kind of Rueben does not have thousand island dressing) but other than that it was yummy. The server was not that great though. He was very busy and did not come back to refill coffee and took forever to get our check. The owner was very attentive and kept going around to different tables to help. It is a lovely place, just next time we will try it when it is not so busy.
