Will NEVER return to this restaurant. First of all, no parking. You have to park in dirt and gravel, then walk. The place is trying so hard to be an upscale restaurant, that they have completely forgotten about service. When I asked the young woman filling our water glasses what the soup of the day was, she said, "I don't know. I'm not a waiter." After our disheveled server took our order, we had to flag him down to ask for bread. We then waited over 30 minutes before he stopped by to say he was going to check on our food. During this time, no one bothered to check on us or apologize for the delay, though there were two managers on duty. At one point, the man manager came to our table and replaced the empty chair with a patio chair from outside because he wanted the nice chair for another table. Extremely tacky. It was actually over 45 minutes from the time we placed our order until we were eating. When the food finally arrived it was generally good. I had the ruben, which was soggy on the plate side but had good flavor. My finance had the chicken sandwich, and enjoyed it. The homemade chips were very good. My mom's salad was far too bitter to eat and seemed to only have oil as a dressing. After our plates were cleared, we waited again for our check. Finally my fiance got up and approached the male manager, telling him that our food took over 35 minutes and we'd like our check. He "informed" her that they are a table cloth and napkins restaurant, and that was pretty good for them. What a prick. Does he seriously think we are so stupid that we didn't see the table cloths and napkins we'd been using? All he needed do was apologize and say he'd get the check right out. I ended up having to raise my voice to the server to get his attention for the check. Extremely disappointing experience for the $36 tab. read more

This used to be our "go-to" restaurant in Santa fe but that has changed. The food quality is not the same as it was last October and this evening we went for dinner with five of our local friends to give it one more try. Big mistake! Not only is the food different and not good, but one of our party was served food with a toothpick embedded inside which was both disgusting and dangerous. When we complained about it the waitress initially took no action so we asked for the manager, who wasn't there (according to the wait staff). There was no apology, no comping the dish and instead the waitress was annoyed and then laughed about it with another server near the bussing station in plain sight. None of us will EVER eat here again or recommend it and this restaurant will likely be gone in six months due to bad, expensive food and an even worse attitude. read more

Reasons to return: this place is wonderfully cozy on a cold day, thanks to the radiant floor heat. Prices are fair (not inflated for tourists), especially given the upscale white table cloth atmosphere. We enjoyed the food and our favorite dish was the arugula salad with polenta croutons. Tomato-basil soup of the day was also memorably good. The "cup" was bowl-sized and the bowl was entree-sized. Reasons why we won't return often: the menu was extremely limited for vegetarian/vegan/environmentally friendly fare. It was a meat-based menu. There was a vegetarian sandwich that was an odd combination of grilled portobello, cream cheese, avocado, tomato and iceberg lettuce on a hamburger bun. The chef does have cooking skill, so I would hope that he would apply his creativity to a few more dishes free of animal by products. If the menu is modernized, I could come here often and with more diverse groups of people. read more

I so wanted to give this restaurant a better rating. From reading the menu beforehand my mouth was salivating and what was experienced was mediocre at best one step up from a restaurant chain. The calamari was dry and flat tasting, the tempura shrimp. They did not have the mushroom soup that was advertised. Honestly the food seemed like it was all Sysco top end frozen food. For example the polenta cake looked like a fish patty. The chairs were very nice. The table linens were nice. The service was adequate but was lacking in "superb" service that one would expect for a 500.00 meal (including 80.00 tip). Would I come back? ...... probably not after trying lots of other sante Fe restaurants. Bottom line: midtown bistro presented and marketed a very creative and appetizing menu. Very disappointing. Joined friends for brunch at 1:00 PM today. Several wanted to order the crab cakes and they were informed "we are out of crab cakes". I opted for fish and chips. Instead of of Alaskan Cod fillets, what came was a version of fish fingers that prompted my friends to ask if I had ordered from the kiddie menu. They were a cut above Mrs. Paul's, but not by much. Worse, they came with limp, greasy, soggy, French fries and a nondescript slaw. Reading a few past reviews, after the fact, I should have been forewarned about the soggy fries. So, why hasn't the management tried to correct this? Service was OK and the ambient nice, the IPA was good and so was the company, but I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit. read more

Disappointing. This was our third visit, first two times service and food were superb. Today's visit was another story. Let's start with the service, we were quickly taken to our table and seated. Our waiter was for lack of a better term, sub-optimal. Asked for a straw for our drinks, he said we don't have any, but I saw other tables with straws, didn't know we had to "BYOS", asked for bread while waiting for our meal, didn't get that either. Took an unusually long time to get our order. Once we were served we received better service from everyone other than our waiter. The busboy was more on point than our waiter. On to the meal. I had the fish and chips, unlike the first two times the fish was a little undercooked and the fries were soggy. My dad's burger came with burnt bacon and the same soggy fries. I would have said something, however, our waiter made a rare appearance and asked how our meals were after I was done. After our first two visits this came as a great disappointment. I'll think twice before returning, lots of other more consistent choices in the area. read more

Decided to spend NYE in Santa Fe and based on reviews from several sites, chose Midtown Bistro based on location and food selection and the fixed menu (we didn't have to look at several pages of options) I made a reservation for 1/31/16 at 8pm for 5 people. We arrived a little before 8pm and waited (patiently) for 40 mins for a table to clear. Which caused a domino effect with us leaving later than we wanted and in turn we were the last patrons in the dining room. We ordered the following items: Cesar salad and a plain salad, sea bass, elk, duck, steak and the mac and cheese with shrimp, 2 glasses of moscato, 1 whiskey/sprite and 1 margarita, carrot cake and chocolate bread pudding type thing. The food was good, the margarita was very strong and was not drinkable without adding water and the rest of the drinks were fine. The service was ok; I understand its NYE and everyone wants to cash out and celebrate but how about a "Thanks for joining us and Happy New Year" as we are leaving, not one person acknowledged us yet the money we spent was . Everyone "Midtown Bistro's" differently but this is not a place I will return to. read more

We have loved Midtown Bistro since it opened. The food is wonderful and the setting beautiful, both inside and outside. I would have given it 5 stars except, the last two times we have been there, the service has been very slow. Also, the outdoor tables need some kind of lighting. My husband and I had lunch at midtown. Other than waiting at the front door to be seated everything went well. We had chicken taquitos to start. My husband had the fish and chips and a bowl of the lobster bisque (only complaint on the soup is there was zero lobster in it) and I had the pork tenderloin sandwich with kettle chips. I have eaten here 3 times in 3 months. The food has not disappointed from appetizers to dessert. I will tell you that you have to move the servers along. When I go in I order my beverages and appetizers first so they can get to work on them. When they bring our beverages I will order my entrees. If I'm in a hurry I will ask for the check when they bring me my entree. Because your server doesn't come by often to check on you grab anyone that comes by the table if you need something (eg. I had to ask them to take away our appetizer plates because there is no room on a two-top for additional plates). Same way with the refills. I'm used to restaurants that have someone that does refills, takes away used plates, and checks on the table to see if you need anything additional. This place really doesn't. Waiters for our table were young and a bit unprofessional for such a nice restaurant. 2 people came to ask us for drinks, though white shirts and black pants, they looked sloppy. But all that didn't matter when the food came. Starting with 2 appetizers: tuna tartare and fried calamari, both delish and beautifully presented! Main courses: seabass, chicken, and pork tenderloin. I have enjoyed lunch at Midtown Bistro a few times, decided to try dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. Everything was on point, server was knowledgable about the wine list which helps. I ordered the halibut with a pesto risotto. My significant other ordered the steak which was cooked perfect served with an awesome scalloped potato. Been here 3 times now...first time had the fish and chips, delicious. Shared a tres leches cake, which was also fantastic. Second time, had the big burger...it was rich! Definitely not spa menu food. Latest time, had the fish dish with pearls of couscous or something...it was also very rich. Lots going on in the flavor department. I have to say, I want to give this place at least 4 stars, but find it hard to pick the right words to describe the food perfectly. The outside of the bistro is very nice, surrounded by the garden of Santa Fe Stone. The decor inside is pretty formal but also tacky. The patio is very pleasant, dimly lit. We had dinner late on a warm night and sat outside, which was great, but they were legitimately playing Kenny G from the outdoor speakers. The bad smooth jazz just killed the nice evening. The prices on the wine list are ridiculous when you consider you can find a good number of the bottles at Trader Joe's. All of the by the glass wines are overpriced duds. The saving grace is that the food is actually quite good. Flavorful crab cakes, super fresh arugula properly dressed, well cooked pasta, salmon, and a refreshing gazpacho. We were stranded in Santa Fe while our car was being fixed & decided to try this place as it was close to our hotel. The place is a delight for the eyes & the service was very good. I was amazed that on a Friday night it was nearly empty. The tables had fresh roses, & all the decor & table settings were top drawer. I ordered the Chili Relleno because it sounded quite unique. My husband ordered the lamb chops. The Chili Relleno was huge, but I soon discovered that the bulk of the dish was quinoa & not much chili peppers or cheese. It really lacked flavor & I didn't eat much. My husband's lamb was tough. We did have a lovely Fume Blanc that I hope to find again. The creme brûlée was very good. I am just puzzled by this place that is quite enchanting, but the food is just not up to snuff. We travel a lot and admittedly I'm a foodie, so this was a disappointment. Santa Fe has so many terrific dining options that I think I'll go elsewhere. read more

We have been a loyal customer since it's inception. Today, Father's Day was a disaster. We understand how difficult it has been for restaurants. But we arrived at 12 noon and at 1:30 pm, with no entree, the waiter said it would be another 30 minutes. We left. The bad part was the complete inattention and lack of caring by the staff. They got overwhelmed in the kitchen obviously. But the manager should have gone from table to table to explain, apologize and offer some concession. Instead, nothing. We asked for some bread and never got it. A 6-top next to us with a hungry small child finally asked how long it would be for their food and we heard both "I don't know but likely 30 minutes." The other table got their drink check and left at the same time we did. Assuming the restaurant got staff no-shows, it was awful table and kitchen management. Also poor training of the wait staff in not 'managing' the communications with customers. We were very disappointed. They will lose repeat customers and created a one-time customer tsunamis. read more

Sadly on my third visit Midtown let me down. Arriving for a summer lunch, we were shown to a table in the dining room. There were very few diners inside, but the patio was hopping. We waited and waited to be recognized, asked for our wait person twice. Finally a waiter came over and declared that there was some confusion as to whose station our table belonged to, "but he would help us out". Having been a waitress I can say I was never confused about where my station was, and I expected more from this restaurant. To add to this, our food took 25 minutes to be delivered to the table. This was awesome. The service was admittedly a little slow and the waitress tried to up sale me on wine, coffee, dessert, etc. Which was annoying but forgivable considering the food was amazing. I had the Salmon (normally trout, but they only had salmon) with couscous and chimichurri sauce. I washed it dow with a glass of Plungerhead Zinfandel. It was so delicious. It was our first time to visit Midtown Bistro and we absolutely loved it. After making reservation we arrived and were warmly greeted by our server. We ordered hot tea which was delightful. We decided to try the quinoa and the rib-eye steak. They were both perfectly made and the flavor was very rich and tasty. The mood in mid-town bistro was elegant and made it very romantic. At the table they had fresh roses and candles that set the mood right. The servers were on point and made the dinner altogether amazing.
