My wife and I split a margherita omelette, which I had never had this type of omelette, but my wife did on a previous visit, and it comes with a side of pancakes (3). She ordered a side of turkey sausage, and we both had coffee. So for this, we walked out full, and the food came before I got halfway on my first cup. I really enjoyed the roasted herb tomatoes and the basil; it was almost pizza-like, but that is not a bad thing. I liked blueberry more because you could taste both the blueberry and lavendar, but my fiancé liked the lemonade one more. The sweet tart was just sugar. A bit too sickly sweet for us. The blood orange was okay. Tasted as you'd expect. The midtown was a classic but nothing special. The raspberry limeade was okay. You could taste the raspberry but not so much the limeade. Peach mojito tasted like a peach bellini, so that one was really good - my fiancé's favorite. He ordered the meat and cheese omelette with turkey sausage. It was a lot of meat, maybe even too much. It was more meat than egg. Then, the egg itself was lackluster. It wasn't fluffy either. Cheese was fine. Overall would not get again. But the pancakes were pretty good. It made up for the omelette. I ordered the shrimp and grits. Grits were loose in a good way. You could imagine warming them up later would be fine since they didn't start off so thick. The shrimp was okay. Overcooked but carried the whole dish to be better than it was without it. The bacon bits threw me off for some reason so didn't like that, and the cheese was fine. I have been to Midtown many times because I want to like it and I have given the staff many opportunities however you get mediocre service at best. UPDATE: I had the chance to enjoy a meal here at Midtown Cafe & Dessertery to celebrate my mother's birthday recently. They were pretty hoppin' busy with weekend traffic but we were able to walk in and nab a quick seat in a booth in the seating area. Our server checked in with us and got our drink orders going pretty quickly. We checked out the menu and they have breakfast anytime selections as well as salad/sandwich/soup options for lunch time. I opted for the Crabcakes & Grits which appealed to me with the description of "three delicious house-made crab cakes, bacon, sharp white cheddar cheese, remoulade, and green onions over stone-ground grits." I did ask for the remoulade sauce on the side however it came on the dish instead but that was not a big dealbreaker for me. The generously portioned dish was pretty tasty with just enough spice and flavor in the remoulade to wake up the dish without being too spicy. My folks decided on getting chicken and rice soup with a grilled cheese (my father was especially satisfied and pleased with this choice). My meal was pretty satisfying but we decided the occasion called for dessert. I went with their long known favorite here, the 5 Flavored Pound Cake. The menu description states "Our best seller for 35 years! The flavors are a secret." I usually prefer my pound cake sans icing but this time I chose to get their variation that had cream cheese icing. This slab (definitely large than a slice/piece!) of cake was the perfect ending to a good meal, with just enough moisture to it so it was not dried out, nice pound cake flavor, and the icing very creamy. My friend and I met here, for the first time, and snagged an outside table. The patio seating is lovely. She started with the Midtown Maple Latte and I had the Toasted Marshmallow Latte. Both were good but I was expecting the marshmallows to be toasted. They were actually tiny, dry marshmallows (think Swiss Miss) on top of whipped cream. The Spicy Grit Skillet was absolutely delicious and I love that they don't stir everything together. The andouille sausage was in pieces not ground and they cooked it perfectly. This also comes with 2 over easy eggs, a small dollop of pimento cheese and green onions. The pimento cheese was very good but I held the green onions. They may have applied them and removed them before serving because I could smell them. It didn't affect the taste and I was thrilled with the meal. My friend got the Western Omelet with a side of grits. She said everything was delicious. We split a small side order of pancakes, just to try them. In fact, you get 25 points for just signing up for the rewards. You earn one point for every dollar spent, so your points add up quickly. The pancakes (they brought three) were fluffy and tasted good. And the has browns, we cooked properly and had good flavor. I have no complains about my breakfast. Carolyn blew my mind when she ordered Crabcakes and Grits! The grits were creamy and had just the right amount of butter and salt. The crabcakes were pan seared and placed in the grits and drizzled with a sauce. They were tasty and the presentation was top quality. Our server was prompt, check back regularly, kept the water glasses full, and was pleasant to deal with. We had several good laughs together. So, was our friend accurate? Most definitely, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. My only negative comment concerns the price. While not outrageous, it was on the high side. Our check was just over $30 with only water to drink. We have several favorite places that would have been about $21 for a similar meal. The do offer several "out of the box" items you won't find just anywhere. So, do we recommend Midtown, yes - as long as you don't mind the price.
