Mighty Fine's 100th review! Woo-hoo! 2.5 stars it is. Two makes the experience seem worse than it was. Three makes it seem better. I'll round up because they were giving away free milkshakes today (red, white and blue ... strawberry, vanilla and blueberry, natch) to celebrate Independence Day. I'll also round up because, well, I have to. Damn Yelp's inability to record half-stars! The place was pretty crowded because of the promo, but it wasn't too bad. There's a retro, family-friendly vibe here, and the long picnic tables covered in checkered tablecloths make Mighty Fine as close to eating outdoors as you'll get and still enjoy cold air conditioning. The food? The burgers and fries are exactly what was served in my grade school cafeteria, only the meat patties are larger. That is to say they aren't bad, but I could make better at home, even without a grill. The biggest strike against the burgers is they aren't cooked to order. Even Chili's gets that part right (though medium is as pink as they'll go with their ground beef). My burger would have tasted better if it hadn't been cooked all the way through (i.e. overcooked). One burger and a side of fries came to $7.50. Those Bluebell milkshakes were good, though. A little too sweet for me, but I imagine most people would like them. read more

This place runs a TIGHT ship. The guy running the kitchen was constantly on his toes, telling everyone what to do, making sure that anyone, I mean anyone, standing for any amount of time was taken care of. I love the decor in here....like an old cafeteria setup...lots of light, super clean, and all of their backstock used as "decorations". This was my first time at a Mighty Fine and I was not disappointed. We got the burgers to go and by the time we got back to the office, they were still hot....cheese oozing out everywhere....and one of the thickest patties I've ever seen on a burger. It was amazing. The fries are probably better if you eat them immediately (as most are), but they were still pretty freaking delicious. read more

It's just not that good. Everyone seems to think it's special because it... well i can't remember why because to me nothing really stands out. I can count on at least 1 hand if not both the burger places in austin that I like better than mighty fine. They Do serve burgers and fries, they do that and if someone says they do that, I'll agree. Checked this place out after craving a burger for 2 days now. The place is clean, bright and welcoming. I got in line and prepared to order. Simple menu, with good selection of options. I opted for a bacon, cheddar burger, red, white and yeller with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. I also order a junior/younster/??? fry and a soft drink. The fries were good, not the best, but better than many I've had. A small crinkle cut. The burger had a good flavor, but the meat was not flattened enough and left a perimeter of bun exposed. It also seemed not quite the most tender. The bun also seemed a little denser than what I was hoping for. I was hoping the bun would steam in it's wrapper, but even after driving home, the bun seemed a little dry and dense to me. I'll be back, but probably out of convenience more than desire. Also, not sure why it has a $ rating on yelp. My 1/4 lb. burger, junior fry and a small coke ran me $10+. A regular burger and fry would have added $2 more! read more

Ive been going to MF for more than 11 years... Today, I went with my kids to have lunch. After lunch my kids wanted milk shakes (as always). Once again, for 11 years we have been buying 'strawberry-lemonade' milkshake there and they love it. And we have never been charged extra for any reason, on the contrary, employees suggested this specific mixed flavor all the time. Today, they told us that there was an extra charge due to... blah blah blah... both managers gave different reasons: new management, an added garnish, they don't make these milkshakes anymore, its two ingredients instead of one, etc. When I saw the ticket it said "strawberry syrup"... as an extra charge. I asked a refund for that... later when I got home I saw that both 12 oz milkshakes were charged @ $4.99 each instead of $3.99 that is the published price for any 12 oz milkshake. (Check their website and menu... and you see I am right) What? So I got charged $2 more without noticing it and then on top of that, a charge for 'syrup'...? I checked their website and the menu displayed in the restaurant. I can't find any specific note or information about $1 more for 12oz milkshakes. If they do this with every client, not only are they not honoring the published prices but they are taking advantage of the fact that almost nobody checks the prices on the ticket and don't complain. What can I add that hasn't been commented upon in over 100 reviews?! I like this place - it's probably my favorite burger place in town. I like the simple menu - the "mighty fine" greeting and the fast assembly-line precision that foods is prepared and delivered. The strawberry lemonade and hand-dipped shakes are great too. One downside - if you're a vegetarian - you're going to be stuck eating fries only. On the bright side - there're other places that have veggie burgers. All-in-all - I think it's just "mighty fine." read more

Now I know why Zagat rated this joint No. 1 in Austin. Their version of regular burger is 1/2 pound! The meat is the best burger one I have ever had. Nuff said. I tasted mom's seasonal blueberry shake. It was awesome. Ithen had to finish my godson's vanilla shake. It befits their motto: 'We make shakes better again.' The Burger - A bun, meat, some vegetables and ground beef formed into a patty. A simple definition with a million variables. Being a Native Texan, I take this subject very seriously, Athen's Texas being the birthplace (God bless Texas). Mighty Fine does a great job at one of these variables. They provide a fresh ground patty, fresh tasting vegetables, melted American cheese, the right amount of sauce and a non-obtrusive soft bun. A great burger to me concentrates on the meat and works it's way out from there; fresh veggies are next and bun is last. The bun should be good, but minimal, the meat should be king and that's what Mighty Fine does correctly. The place is very clean, set up similar to a Rudy's BBQ (same company). They have bottled soft drinks on ice in line and fresh produce boxes full of potatoes and tomatoes help control the line flow (note should be taken for fresh produce purists, they do not refrigerate their tomatoes thereby increasing the flavor). Other condiments line the walls on shelves and they have the typical Rudy's signage and hand washing machine. The men's room is worth a trip with it's full length one way mirrors lining the wall, fun for adults and kids alike. The menu is reminiscent of In-n-Out Burgers of California; very simple, very basic, very straightforward. They grind the beef fresh and crinkle-cut the fries in house. They also buy the pickles whole and put them through the crinkle cutter as well. I got the Jr. Cheeseburger, fries and a strawberry lemonaid. The burger was two small patties equaling 1/4 pound and very filling and big, the fries were crisp and fresh and the lemonaid was ok and not worth the $1.99 it cost! Overall I would recommend this place as a way above average burger in a fast food type atmosphere and prices. With places like this around we will never have to eat at crappy Mcdonaldsburgerkingwendysjackinthebox again, although Whataburger still rocks. I am on a venture to try all the new burger joints in town and will report on those and possible revisit this one later. read more

I have had good burgers and chili dogs here but I have also had burgers that I felt like could have been better, less soggy. My latest trip my business was turned away bc they were "in the weeds". I can understand being backed up, but being turned away combined with my last few trips becoming increasingly mediocre I'll be going somewhere else for the foreseeable future. read more

Mighty Fine has a very simple menu born from the Rudy's tradition. I appreciate the service model and the communal seating. Plus they use quality ingredients which you will see displayed around the restaurant. Pros (besides the ones listed above): Fast Service, Quality Food. Good Portion Sizes, I have never had an issue with the fries as some have mentioned. Reusable Cups, I love this, plus you can recycle them or bring them back next time and save money on your drink. Awesome Milkshakes and Lemonade. Cons: A bit on the pricey side but as the old adage goes you get what you pay for. I just feel like the burgers are about $1 too expensive (personal preference) but in a city that has Dan's and P. Terry's I am spoiled by cheap delicious burgers. To the people who want to compare it to In-n-Out that is not what they are trying to be, if I was going to compare any place to In-n-Out it would be P. Terry's and I feel like that is a very favorable comparison. Bonus: I love the hand jacuzzi, (hand washing system), if I am ever rich to a ridiculous level I will have one of these. read more

Used to love this place specifically because I'm gluten free and they had a lot of solid options to cater to gluten free folks with actual delicious GF buns (not lettuce wraps), gf fryer for fries, etc. however they recently changed their gluten free buns and they are so much worse now. I can no longer justify getting a $12 cheeseburger here and adding on another $2 just for the bun. read more

Ordered three burgers and fries & onion rings last week and well....the fries were extremely undercooked and cold however my husband and daughter said the onion rings were off the chain and they loved their cheeseburgers. My hamburger was soggy; maybe it just wasn't my night as both of my items were not the best. For the record, their cheese burgers and onion rings were a huge hit! Its the place with its own license plate. Great menu for a burger place - burgers, fries, rings, chicken sandwich and a hot dog. Huge burgers ground fresh. Very big but lacks seasoning. Decent bun. Solid with mustard. The fries are exception. Fresh cut and thin. Really the star. Big place with long tables. Nice staff as well. Its order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. The food came out quick..like always. This time the cook was a bit too much in love with the pepper but our entire order was gone within minutes. I do like the fries but I don't like the tiny pieces. Every once in a while ketchup on the fingers is fine but not with every bit. I didn't know the lemonade didn't come with refills. I wish they had said something or put it up on the board. My little one was disappointed when he got turned down. MFB is in a very convenient location. There is always plenty of seating inside. Absolutely the best burger in Austin. We drove all the way from Lee county just to have a Mighty Fine. We braved Austin traffic for over an hour, not to mention the long commute from out east. It was definitely worth it. Worth the money, worth the trip. The burgers were so huge we couldn't hardly bite into them. They come out looking just like the advertised picture. This is a review based on a to go order. If this was the only restaurant open in all of Austin, I'd go and eat and probably feel good. But other than that I likely won't be ordering again. Came here off a reddit that said this place was good so wanted to try it out. Could have been because I got this delivered but I did not think this was a THE BEST burger in Austin like others have said. Perhaps I need to go and eat there vs delivered? "Austin, we have a problem." This Mighty Fine has friendly, fast service; cold drinks; outstanding fries; great buns and fixin's. The problem lies in the burger patties themselves. It says on the menu, "All burgers cooked medium well." Well, thanks, Nanny. Mine happened to be cooked medium nucular fusion. We're talking dark brown with visible burnt edges. Since Mighty Fine is a place that grinds its own patties daily and wouldn't have to worry about stuff like e. coli, you'd think they could maybe tone down the flames just a few hundred degrees? Naw, they know what's best for you. Except there was no juice in our burgers, save what might have soaked in from the mustard and Tabasco, or dripped off the very nice tomatoes. Really, folks. Surprisingly I really liked this place. Some of my friends actually said it wasn't all that but i was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food here. I would actually prefer this place over 5 Guys. Maybe its because I'm a bang for the buck type guy who loads his 5 guys burgers over the top but the simple 1/4 pounder here is very well crafted, balanced flavors and fresh meat. They say they do fresh cut fries, but I couldn't tell the difference too much between that and any other frozen crinkle cut fry actually but the star attraction is the fact the chili cheese fries are devastating. Wow. They pile on the chili and cheese. Fountain drinks are standard but they also do some mighty fine shakes. I like the vanilla or strawberry. Place is clean and fits a lot of people if you have a large party. They also have the cool hand washer (I think this is owned by the same people as Rudy's, which would explain why). try it out yourself for the I want clean hands experience. read more

Mighty fine, mighty fine. I really love to come here to dine! For a quick burger, this place is my go-to. They make it just how you want, except they do it a bit different. Instead of asking for ketchup, mayo or mustard, they say, "Do you want red, white and yellow?" The first time I went there, I was so confused, but quickly caught on. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because their fries are good, but sometimes they are soggy. I'm a big fan of soggy fries....said no one ever. Okay okay you got me, the mighty fine burgers are just delicious and pretty bomb. I am from New York and I am a die hard shake shack fan. So admitting that there are better burgers out there is just crazy. Or maybe not. At first I was very skeptical about this place, I mean "mighty fine burgers & fries" ..yeah okay. The meat patties were really fresh and I can't believe how juicy their patties were. You can actually see their patties (not frozen) in their glassed refrigerator.
