I don't know what happened to this restaurant! It used to be a guarantee of good service and good quality food! When we arrived, the hostess was rather rude in the 10 seconds we spoke to her to ask for a table. Then the waiter (he never told us his name, but he was a Mexican man) arrived 10-15 minutes later, "acting all funny", and took our order. When the food arrived, he threw it on the table as if he were serving food to prisoners in jail! The only person who behaved professionally was the busser (Gustavo). Obviously, I'm not going back to this establishment, but it's a shame that the quality of the service and food has dropped so drastically! I recommend you go to a taco shop near your house instead, and I assure you that you'll get better food and better service! read more

The black bean and corn enchiladas contained sweet potato that could have been cooked a bit longer - still the dish, with ample rich, flavorful sauce, was successful. The waitstaff was outstanding. Miguel's is a San Diego classic. Their chips and queso are on point. The carnitas plate, burrito trio, and fajitas were quite tasty. The ultimate margarita was perfectly balanced. Service was a little bit lackluster. There was a large gap between being seated and being able to order. Their outdoor patio is nice and felt warm due to being covered/having heaters. This is a standard for trips to Coronado Island. As natives of California moving to Minnesota Mexican food is harder to come by. Miguel's is a chain that has solid Mexican fare with good drinks and the best chips and white queso which is unusual for folks on the west coast. The location in Coronado cannot be beat right across from hotel Del and you can walk your food off on the beach. I was hovering between four and five stars, so consider this a rounded up 4.5. Miguel's Coronado, to me at least, is all about happy hour. And happy hour is all about the amazing flautas. Seriously, get the flautas. No, no, SERIOUSLY... Get. The. Flautas. Oh yeah, and don't forget to partake of some of that warm cheese that comes with the chips. That is a Miguel's must! Beyond the flautas and cheese dip, the courtyard setting oozes charm, from the minute you step off of the Orange Ave. sidewalk and find your way down the pedestrian alley to the host stand. To be honest, the rest of the food is a mix of just OK and pretty darn good, but when you can sip on margaritas and munch on chips and cheese and the aforementioned flautas, who really cares about anything else. This is our go-to pre-show happy hour stop before when we have tickets to Lamb's Players Theatre across the street, and it also works really well for that. read more

I tried Miguel's Cocina during my trip to San Diego. I committed to eating Mexican food while here so I ended up getting brunch. I ordered the shrimp omelette, never had that before but this was so good! It also came with rice and beans which were surprisingly good when paired with the omelette. I also ordered 2 guava margaritas which were really good. My waiter was very nice and made sure I was fine while eating. The interior looks like a nice homey restaurant. The place was ok, they were busy and the main server guy didn't notice me or look back at the door, however one of the gentleman servers was super on top of it. Manny was our server tonight and truly made the experience great! I have been to many other Miguel's locations in San Diego but never this one. I will say it is a little hidden compared to other restaurants in Coronado but good none the less. We had walked around the Hotel Del for a couple hours to enjoy the holiday lights so we definitely worked up an appetite. I ended up going with my go to taco there which is the swordfish taco and of course had to get a side of beans and rice. My boyfriend and his sister both got these trios plates which had a trio of mini burritos and a trio of tacos which was honestly pretty cool and a great way to try out multiple different things in one plate! It was a Friday night so it was a little busy but that is too be expected with the holiday season. Overall if you go in ask for Manny! Complimentary Queso...that honestly should be enough to get you to Miguel's, but if it's not...then let me tell you a few more things! However, it can't get too much better than #freequeso. Miguel's Cocina is a part of a larger restaurant group, but the brand itself features several locations around San Diego and just up the coast in Carlsbad. This particular Miguel's is located in the courtyard of the El Cordova Hotel on Coronado. If you have trouble finding either, just look for the Hotel Del, it essentially sits across the street from it! Once you do see the signs, finding your way to Miguel's can be a little tricky, but even being mildly lost for a few moments in worth the reward! We were staying at the nearby Loews Coronado Bay Resort and were looking for some quality Mexican fare on the island and once we hit Yelp, Miguel's came to our rescue. Being from the South, I describe most Mexican food as "TexMex", however Miguel's is definitely "SoCal-Mex". While they features the standards of enchiladas, burritos, chimichangas, etc...they offer them with a more veggie-forward and local ingredient/preparation way. Since they had the queso covered for us, we decided to add to the dips and ordered the guacamole. It was chunky, yet smooth and featured serrano chile instead of jalapenos! Once we were all dipped out, we tossed in main dishes. I went with the Tamales, which featured two tamales, one pork and one cheese topped with red and green sauce. The tamales were great size, had a great masa to filling ratio and were just all around delicious! My peers went with the fajitas and a burrito. Neither of them left unhappy or anywhere near hungry! Outside of the food, a few other standouts for this location of Miguel's were the outside dining area which is a covered and decoratively lit space that has an amazing SoCal vibe to it! The service was great as well. They kept our chips, drinks and bellies full that night! Overall, Miguel's was one of the more memorable dining experiences I had on my visit to San Diego. I will forever tell folks about that one time I got complimentary queso...it's already blowing peoples mind here in the south! I look forward to returning to San Diego for a multitude of reasons, one of them now being Miguel's! read more

Food prices are on the high side, but as you would expect from any hotel restaurant on Coronado. The chips are very crunchy, could cut the roof of your mouth type crunchy. I do like that is was unsalted but I am sure many people will probably not like that. Only issue with my chips were the absurd amount of crumbs in it. It's like dumping the excess crumbs out of a couple tortilla chips bags. 1The salsa has mango in it which is cool but honestly this is the probably the worst salsa I've had. I tasted it and I just felt something was missing. I ate the trio burritos. Wasn't impressed at all. The shrimp tasted very fishy and it was clearly the kind of shrimp that was farmed in some disgusting waters in some southeast Asian country. The steak had parts that was undercooked and parts that were so overcooked it was crunchy in a gross way. My wife's salad has a bunch of gross wilted leaves, the kind you might find in an aging spring mix. I ordered the fried ice cream. The only disappointment here is it's just oil fried corn flakes attached to the sides of the ice cream and you can see oil drippings at the bottom of the plate. Service was great though. I just don't think the owners should be calling Gordon Ramsey if they don't want their food and methods critiqued. read more

So we arrived around 5ish and you can tell they had the dinner rush coming in, we needed a table for two and gave us 10-15 min wait, it was quick don't even think we waited that long which was great, I got the tres amigos, The three tacos are a big enough size, I wasn't a fan of the chicken mole. But the shrimp and pork are good, missing a bit more flavor but they definitely had a bit of a kick (spicy). Dessert we got the coconut flan and that was delicious, sweet but not too sweet which was perfect. Service over all was good. We go here a lot for retirements or some type of work celebrations because it's near work. Food is good. I wouldn't say life changing, but it's not bad. Service here is great. Servers are so nice and friendly. They have really good humor as well which would make it easy to come back here. The entrance is inside the little shopping area, not street side. The food came out on a hot plate, but was undercooked. My beef taco was refrigerator cold inside. The enchilada was barely cooked. It was disgusting to me, especially since I took a big bite of the refrigerator cold taco meat.
