Mija BBQ is set inside a beautifully remodeled frame house that immediately gives it a warm, inviting feel. It's not your typical BBQ joint, and that's part of the appeal. There's a huge yard out back with plenty of picnic tables, which makes it perfect for hanging out when the weather's nice. Inside, the space is small, comfy, and neat. It feels well put together without trying too hard. There's even a fireplace that adds a nice touch--no idea if it's actually working, but it fits the vibe. The staff here really stands out. Super friendly, very polite, and they keep things simple--you order at the corner, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Easy and efficient. I went with the brisket taco, and it delivers. This isn't a tiny street taco--it's loaded. You get brisket, salsa negra, avocado crema, and pickled onions. The balance works really well. The salsa brings some acidity to cut through the fat, while the crema smooths everything out. Every bite comes together nicely. As for the brisket itself, the seasoning is solid but not overly aggressive. Personally, I'd like a bit more bark--it was a little thin for my taste. That said, the smoke ring is very prominent, and you can taste that deeper smoke flavor. Texture-wise, it was very tender--easily cut with a plastic fork. I did catch it later in the afternoon, and the lean slices were just a bit on the dry side for me. Overall, the vibe here is awesome and the tacos are legit. This is a spot I'll definitely be coming back to--looking forward to giving the brisket another shot, plus trying the pork ribs and some sides. read more

I have been on a mission to collect barbecue joints all over greater DFW, and on a beautiful day we decided to take a drive to Cedar Hill, a charming little hamlet we had never explored before. I was genuinely excited to try this spot. When we arrived around 1 pm on a Thursday, the place was empty. They mentioned that we had just missed the lunch rush. There is a large field out back with lots of picnic tables, so I can absolutely imagine this place getting busy and lively. It just was not bustling while we were there. We ordered a two meat plate with ribs and brisket, along with elote and mac and cheese. We also added hot honey wings and tallow fries. I really wanted to love it more than I did. The sides were barely warm, the brisket was a bit too tough for my taste, the fries were too skinny (also barely warm) and the wing skin was softer than I prefer- he wings have potential - I would have loved them crisped up before being sauced. Overall, the food landed in the middle for me. That said, the interior is super cute and has a welcoming vibe, and the guy working the register was very friendly. Came here for a too good to go order but saw they had smoked wings on the menu so I had to check those out. The too good to go order was two random sides. Small parking lot but love they have plenty of outdoor seating as well as seating on the inside. Can't wait to check out the outdoor seating in the summer. The young lady at the front was very welcoming and friendly as soon as I walked in. The ambiance is a southern down home type feel. Very relaxed, good music and gives the Texas vibe. Now - the star of the show: the food! Smoked wings 7/10: a little undercooked for my preference but nice smoke flavor. I did get the hot honey sauce on the side but not a fan of the flavor. Maybe I'll try these with the sauce next time because it may help add flavor to the wings. The ranch was homemade - which was good. Elote 8/10: this was really good and hard for me not to eat the entire thing! Great flavor and nice portion size. Baked beans 6/10: not my fav side and I'm used to slightly sweeter baked beans. I feel like a stumbled upon a secret gem!!!! Hurtados has always been the Texas standard for TexMex BBQ, but I would pick this over Hurtados everyday. There is seating but it's very limited inside. Tons of picnic tables in the back for outdoor seating. Impressive menu, there are a variety of items to chose from, something for everyone from BBQ, to wings, to tacos to burgers. Another yelper mentioned not to skip out of the sides and I'm glad I took their advice. I had the brisket grilled cheese with a side of Mac and cheese. Husband went with two tacos and elote. My Mac and cheese was cream with a little spice. It was a very filling side and I loved it so much I prioritized finishing that over my sandwich. This is the kind of Mac and cheese you want to share with your family! Brisket grilled cheese was delicious and grilled perfectly. We've been eyeing this place for a while. We hopped on their website and read about them and decided to give them a try. There's not much in Cedar Hill, although we are from the area we usually go to Dallas for a bite. Well, we're impressed and excited to have something this good! The Siegler family definitely has some great food! Service was good. The two gentlemen we encountered were friendly. My husband and I are pretty sure the owner was in the back cooking. LOVE! Very cute and cozy inside. The air was blasting nice and cool. My husband and I just wanted something small so we decided on the Chilaquiles (initially we thought they had migas but Chilaquiles are just as great!). We really didn't expect for the serving to be much, but the bowl was pretty loaded and satisfying. Impressive. They do not skimp out on the food. I ordered mine spicy and my husband ordered mild. The chile is very homemade and delicious. True to the spice! I want to add that I've never been to any restaurant where they ask "do you want your eggs over easy" and actually deliver over easy. My eggs were runny just how I love them! My only complaint is the the food was a little cool around the top BUT, I think it was from the AC. I didn't mind it as much because the food was just delicious. We'll be back with friends to try out other dishes. ;) read more

Please enjoy all the meats. However, brisket and burnt ends were sold out each time my son and hubby have attempted to place an order. We love Mija! We made the mistake of arriving too late on a Saturday night & they were out of brisket & some other items. We appreciated that we were given an order of jalapeño mac & cheese as a substitute for the coleslaw that went on a Sweaty Pig sandwich & they were out of. That was excellent customer service. I can't wait to return for brisket birria. Honestly, everything here is great. We're so glad that they have a following. Cedar Hill has limited food options & we're ecstatic that they are here. The guys working are very nice and the place is clean. The brisket and turkey I got was a lil dry like it was yesterday's meat. I should have known with the storm that it would prob be this way. This is a great little hole in the wall restaurant with amazing food and service. It's a very cute, refurbished house with a great picnic area in the back. We first heard of Mija BBQ in a local Cedar Hill coffee shop that serves their breakfast tacos. They said that Mija served their BBQ in a brewery (that I also hadn't heard of) over in another part of old Cedar Hill called Ash and Ember Brewing Company. I found a Groupon for Mija and we showed up really with no expectations. We opened up the front door to an all tables occupied dining room around 5 on a weekday. It was already hot back in May, so nobody was out on the sunshiney umbrella-less patio. You have to figure out what to do when you walk in. Food orders are taken in the far corner of the room at the counter along with beverages. We needed time to look over the menu; but you have to stand at the counter to do it and honestly, I was trying to decide if we wanted to just get it to go or come back another time. It's a small place with tall tables and backless stools except for one table for six at a regular height. I couldn't see the specials chalkboard through the people sitting in front of it. I waivered. We decided to stay. Two people left a tiny table in the middle of the room and we hung out there. At some point, the large party left the normal height table and I just sat down, dirty or not. I had ordered the Street Taco Plate - two sides, Elote and Charro Beans with Cochinita Pibil, Brisket and Pulled Pork tacos with two wonderful savory salsas. My husband ordered the Chile Relleno Sausage Link ($10), Smashed Burger ($9), and two Street Tacos - Pulled Pork and Barbacoa ($3 ea.) I was disappointed that they didn't have any Birria; but most everything was delicious except the sausage which turned out to be dry and crumbly and the hamburger which was way overdone for my husband's taste. The seating turned out to be the most unsatisfactory part. Once past that, we had an enjoyable time and the tacos with Red and Green salsas were terrific. The elote and charro bean sides were very good. Mija Barbecue is not inexpensive of course. What BBQ place isn't pricey? I did notice that since May they have raised their Street Tacos to $4, while Regular Tacos remain $6. They had half price Taco Tuesdays when we were there; but I see that they are closed on Tuesdays, now, and instead have a Hump Day Special: 1/2 off Sausage, Brisket, & Pulled Pork Sandwich Plates. Service was limited when we were there that weekday in May. One person to take food orders at the counter; but they did bring it to you. Someone else took beer orders. I can't speak for any other time. So the experience was a mixed bag for me. I definitely didn't like a room full of large tall boxy wooden tables and stools. It's just cramped and uncomfortable. But the Unisex bathrooms were spacious and clean. Glassed views of the brewery were pretty cool. And those tacos are absolutely delicious. read more

They're a food truck located outside Ash and Ember Brewing Company, we stopped here after hearing about it on a YouTube video. We were happy there was food available so we order after grabbing a few beers. We ordered brisket tacos and sides and everything was good for the most part but the mac and cheese was dry, no gooey, creamy, cheesey goodness that we all crave... but sadly that wasn't the case here. The Dallas style brisket taco was good, the salsa on it had a good balance of spice and acidity while the pickled onions added a tangy punch to each bite.
