Randomly fpund this place on our way home after an appt that ended late at night. This place is amazing. At first glance, it looks like any other small Japanese joint. But the food is amazing! The owner of this place used used to be a chef in Japan. The garlic edamame was a good indicator of how the rest of the food was going to be... it was steamed just right Their sashimi is so fresh and thick. Yellow tail collar is cooked just right... crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The sauce in their salads is the perfect combination of sweet, sour and smooth. (Most places, its too sour). Add to that, the friendly and quick service, the City of Orange is lucky to have this restaurant =) Thanks for a great random dinner with the kids! Just stopped for a quick lunch here at Mika sushi and it was fantastic! We ordered the lunch special, three-piece Bento box, where you get to pick and choose the items that you want. The chicken teriyaki is one of the best I've ever had! And I feel like I'm kind of a chicken teriyaki snob. :) It had that really nice charcoal grill flavour and char that you don't often find. I had to order extra salad dressing, too, because it was so darn good. The spicy tuna roll was also yummy! Honestly I like this place, not due to the quality but the price. Their happy hour is extremely amazing as some of the options are lower than 7 bucks. Which is extremely affordable for sushi as I lived in Japan for many years. What makes good sushi is the rice. Sushi literally means vinegar rice, but it seems theres a huge lack of quality put into their rice. The biggest thing that separates an Authentic Sushi restaurant is the Rice and this is extremely noticeable at Mika Sushi. Often times a roll will fall apart, and separate I have had it happen many times. The rice isn't really seasoned at all to be honest however a lot of the rolls do taste pretty decent. I would eat here more often If I lived closer just because of how well this place is priced. If you're a sushi connoisseur this place is not the place you want to go. But if you're a Californian sushi eater than this is sufficient enough, cheap, taste good, and has decent ingredients. I would only really ever go here during happy hour and needed a cheap fix. read more

Nice little sushi restaurant that's perfect for lunch. They have a happy hour sushi menu, half off certain rolls that goes from around 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. We got the spicy tuna roll which was very good and the California roll. Everything taste fresh and has good flavor. Since the place is kind of small I noticed a lot of people ordering to go or picking up orders. LOVE TRYING OUT NEW SUSHI RESTAURANTS! As much as I adore my "home base" sushi restaurant (Crazy Rockin Sushi), seeing what else is out there, is always fun! When driving back from San Diego, we stopped at this tiny sushi joint right off the 5 and we pleasantly surprised with the offerings, that were also at fair price! My fiancé ordered two salmon rolls, which came out rather quickly, and looked thick and juicy. He also ordered the Lobster Rock N Roll, which he described as GOOD but he also felt like he was just shoving spoonfuls of mayo into his face. For someone who doesn't care that much about eating healthfully, he did in fact bring up that he felt like he ate 1600 calories... So maybe if you want this roll, you ask for LIGHT ON THE MAYO. Ha! However, if you're trying to eat healthier, you may want to nix this option entirely and order what I got... 5 salmon skin hand rolls without and rice, sauce or vegetables, were shoved in my face in next to no time... And they were VERY VERY GOOD! Typically new sushi joints I go to get a little confused with my order but this place didn't flinch when I ordered my modified rolls and presented me with EXACTLY what I wanted... The skin was crisped to perfection and paired amazingly (as usual) with ginger! I also ordered the hamachi kama, which was also tasty! Initially I was sad by how small it was, but honestly, when I was done with all my food, I felt pleasantly full, not thanksgiving full, so in reality the kama was of perfect size! And hey, at least they HAD IT! All to often I hit up restaurants run out of kama so good for them for having some in stock! Delicious sushi, and worth getting off the 5 for! My fiancé and I will be driving back and forth to San Diego a lot over the course of the next few months, so I have a feeling we will stop here again! read more

It's a hole in the wall sushi place in a strip mall, very low maintenance feel. There's a handful of seats, probably fits about 25 total. So don't expect a high end Japanese restaurant with rice paper dividers and banzai plants sprouting out from every corner :P The sushi itself is pretty good given reasonable happy hour prices. Drop by from 4:30-7:30 (M thru Sa). You can get some specialty rolls for about $6.50 each. They also have 2 piece nigiri for $3, although just your typical cuts like yellowtail, salmon, tuna, etc. Their Mexican roll, spicy tuna with avocado topped with a drop of hot sauce, had a nice kick to it. Also loved the spicy tuna tempura roll, which is basically a deep fried spicy tuna roll. Who doesn't love fatty deep friedness?? Yea, we got two of those haha. The one roll we would have skipped was the In & Out roll, which was super peppery and for some strange reason, tasted like ham...like Thanksgiving day smoked ham, which was weird to have for sushi...pass... This little gem is located right across the street from Main Place Mall in the same plaza as the Starbucks and Subway. The ownership has changed a couple of times in this building, but this time, it is for the better! When looking at the menu, you can get overwhelmed by the selection and the prices, but don't let it fool you! The rolls are large portions with amazing flavor. Food (5 Stars): We ordered the Popcorn Lobster Roll, Salmon Lover Roll, and another Salmon Roll. All had large portions and tasted wonderful! There was plenty of sauce and they do not skimp out on tiny rolls, these were packed rolls with all of the fixings. If you really love salmon, definitely get the Salmon Lover roll because they top it with poke that tastes fresh along with onions and cilantro. Order the Melon Cream Soda, a Japanese soda that is really yummy. No alcohol is served at this place thought. Service (5 Stars): The waitress, owner, and sushi chef were so courteous and nice. They frequently checked up on us and even gave us a complimentary miso soup on the house! Love it! Final Thoughts: I would definitely come back here again, but I'm bringing friends. A very convenient sushi restaurant in the neighborhood. A very warm and friendly staff, great menu items, great prices during happy hour and some very adventurous rolls to choose from. Happy hour items are limited, but seems to have enough to choose from to make most people happy. Because of the discounted price, the sushi rolls tend to be smaller in quantity compared to the full priced (non-HH) preparations. We found the candied dressings of the avocado/eel roll and spicy tuna tempura roll a little over the top for our liking but I'm sure it's pleasing to some patrons. read more
