An OK sushi place, we substituted the rice for imitation crab meat and it was an extra 6 dollars per bowl, we have also substituted the rice with crab meat for salmon skin handrolls and that was an extra 3 dollars per roll. Honestly not worth the money. The quality of the fish was OK. I had way better sushi than this place. read more

I was looking for a Sushi restaurant within a 2 mile radius of my office and there were so many to choose from. I narrowed my search down to search for high quality sushi and I was led here to Mika Sushi. While going southbound the light did not allow a u-turn so I actually had to turn left and then make a u-turn in order to turn into the plaza. To make it more irritating, parking is very limited. When I finally arrived at Mika Sushi, the interior was very small with about 8 tables of 4 people max, and the tables were very close together. I do not recommend coming here for large groups. Since I was craving Salmon, I ordered a Salmon Killer ($12.95). This roll came with avocado spicy tuna and shrimp tempura in the center and the exterior was topped with salmon, jalapeno and crunchy onion bits. Honestly in theory this roll composes of many items that I like but the execution fell sport. The shrimp tempura was on the soggy side and the salmon was not the freshest. You can look at my picture and see for yourself. Zoom into the top left hand corner and you'll even see that the plate is chipped. I'm not saying their sushi is bad but simply that this place is AVERAGE... Average sushi at an average price.... I resent all the people raving about their quality because it really led me astray. And also, they do not provide miso soup, a salad or any edamame with the meal. That is extra. I actually considered getting their Baked Green Mussels but I was warned that they take a long time to prep. To their credit, service was nice... nice but awfully inefficient. I was halfway through my 'just okay' roll when I was finally able to FLAG DOWN my waitress for some ginger and wasabi. Then I had to FLAG DOWN a different waitress to get my check since I was unable to get ahold of my own waitress. When I first arrived I mentioned being new to the area and my waitress said that means I will be seeing her often... To answer this-- No!! No way!! If the sushi was delicious and soooooo fresh, I would consider the inconvenient turns to get here... But it was as mediocre as it gets. Also, service is too inconvenient while I am on a lunch run. And so I am still on a search for a go-to sushi spot during my lunch hour. Let me know if you guys have any recommendations... but keep in mind I will put you on FULL BLAST if you lead me astray. read more

Still nice fresh sushi. But the half price Sushi Happy Hour which made Mika Sushi so attractive is no longer. Literally their sushi prices just doubled. We've been long time customers. Happy Hour special pricing is no longer. Still clean and nice. Just, we went for that and had to turn around and go elsewhere now because the prices functionally doubled. read more

Heading to Rubios next door to find this sushi place next door. Honestly I wouldn't walked in if I didn't see those great yelp reviews. Came in around 5pm and they were serving their happy hrs. I must say that the quality of dish served to the price paid is very reasonable. Ordered all the standard rolls in addition to two premium ones. They were all good. My favorite was crunchy shrimp tempura roll and California roll. I will definitely come here again read more

I tried Mika sushi 3 years ago. I was so glad I had another chance to enjoy beautiful food journey with chef Jeff today. Every pieces of fish is valuable and fresh. Good vibes and friendly service. *NOT FOOD ALLERGY FRIENDLY* Clearly the person who runs this place doesn't have a food allergy protocol in place. In this instance it's not the employees fault but managements fault for not educating their employees. Also any person with proper management training would know the basic laws and regulations on handling food allergies. read more

Good happy hour! Service was standard nothing to race about, but nothing to complain about either. The fish was pretty fresh and tasty. Out of all the things we got we loved the sapparo roll the most. Was delicious and well balanced. Our least favorite was the happy salmon roll and tuna roll. My second time coming here i thought i would try Mika sushi again since I usually frequent other sushi places closer to my house. Got a miso soup, Salmon Killer Roll and a Tuna Love roll. Both rolls were perfect and fresh and what made them perfect for me was Miko doesnt stuff the sushi rolls with fake crab and mayonnaise they stuffed my rolls with fresh raw fish. Forgot to write my review on my visit so I'll do it now. Friendly service and the waitress was very attentive at all times. I didn't have to wait long to put my order in and get served. I will always come back to eat at Mika Sushi. Owners and staff are very attentive and you will always get the best customer service. The restaurant is always clean including the restroo The food is on point! Nothing but the best, fresh, and incredibly delicious! We drive a pretty long way to eat here at least one or twice a month. This is our go to sushi spot if we wanna sit and chill at a restaurant. It's located in a small strip mall, with a Subway and Rubio's right next to them. The place is a bit small but not too crowded. They have two TV's for entertainment, 1 bathroom. The servers, chefs are all mega friendly -- there have been a couple instances where they share a small sample sushi on the house! So sweet! Service here is amazing -- super attentive, and makes sure you are enjoying yourself. We have ordered most of everything it feels! There's always new sushi on the board left of the sushi station. They have happy hour from 3-7 Monday Thru Saturday. Thank you so much for having us! read more

Stripmall sushi? Are you kidding me? It is not some hidden gem of a sushi bar where the Omakase will blow your socks off. It is a solid option for rolls and basic nigiri at a decent value. If you are looking for something different for lunch or dinner when you are at CHOC, or leaving the mall, or just driving past, it is worth a go. The place itself is small with no sushi bar, just about 10 tables and 2 TVs. Most of the regular rolls are based on either California Rolls or spicey tuna rolls, so there isn't a ton of variety, but you can easily get a couple that will satisfy your cravings. Plus they have beer and sake. My favorites are the Tuna Love Roll, In&Out Roll and Sump Roll. I have not tried the baked or tempura roll, but the veggie tempura itself is good. read more

As a neighborhood sushi joint, Mika Sushi is pretty good. The fish is fresh, service is polite, and they have some inventive items on the menu. The happy hour pricing is quite good. I have been in a couple times now with my kids for happy hour. We have gotten a few different items. Both times we really over ordered. You can get a two item or three item happy hour special. The two item is enough for me because the rolls are big - well, maybe two rolls and a couple pieces of nigiri to supplement. Three items is too much for me. Everything has been tasty. I would not hesitate to go to Mika Sushi for lunch or dinner. read more

I can understand how business owners, managers, servers, and customers are all caught within the vicious fluctuations of markets and so on. However, what I was recently served at Kaizen Shabu last week was, to my mind, an egregious example of a restaurant offering well below the bare minimum of what should be expected for the prices listed (and my photos will show this, I believe). At the outset, I want to say I have no grievances with the servers. Our server was kind, attentive, and was elegantly multitasking. Bravo. Now, the food: we ordered the salmon "sashimi" plate, and what we were handed was a platter of the thinnest, grainiest, obviously-thawed and poorly sliced salmon I've ever eaten in my life. I was a bit shocked. At Cal Shabu Shabu (and other shabu places I tend to frequent more often), sashimi is... sashimi. It *looks* like sashimi because it IS sashimi: a piece of salmon purchased by the restaurant and knife-cut into appropriate portions depending on what portion size the customer has ordered. It is sashimi that gleans in the light, where the striations of fat and tissue are visible to the naked eye on the fish itself. As you can see from my photos, we were served paper-thin salmon that I could barely peel off of the plate with my chopsticks without ripping the fish into smaller, grainier pieces. It was all but inedible, in my opinion. This is not sashimi, and to serve such a thing for the price listed is beyond atrocious: it is an outright deception. Now, onto the side of veggies and noodles that come with every order of meat or fish. Perhaps the cooks could not be bothered, but what I received was broken tendrils of 2-inch udon haphazardly thrown into a bowl. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the chefs, with a dwindling supply of food nearer the end of the night, or if this restaurant truly does not care about the quality of what they are serving customers. Again, I think my pictures speak for themselves. I used to love coming here as the atmosphere was chic, and the servers are so kind. After my last dining experience, however, I cannot justify the price of my bill in the face of the quality of the food I am being served. I won't be returning, sadly. I hope the manager has an opportunity to look at these photos and perhaps reassess what can be done to improve what they are serving their customers.

The seasoning was just right, and you could really taste the depth of flavor that comes from the time put into making it. The service was really nice as well. They checked in to see if we had any questions and told us about the skewers of the day. It is a bit pricey, but I guess that comes with the quality of the ingredients they use. On top of slow service, the AYCE format felt stressful...like I had to binge eat under a time limit rather than enjoying a meal. While you certainly won't leave hungry, it feels like the focus has shifted from quality to quantity. Really disappointed to see a former favorite take this direction.

The highlight was definitely the shrimp tempura--it was huge, crispy, and nicely fried. Service was okay overall. If you're coming here, I'd recommend being patient and trying the tempura.

I came here on a friday lunch & man did it not disappoint me. My date and i came here for the amazing rolls that the owner jeff makes. First it was the tuna and salmon avocado tar tar which is on the special menu on the wall. It was worth every penny they charged. the mixture of the sauce and the freshness of the fish were on point! Second, we had a lobster rock & roll which consisted with crawfish and scallop on top of a bake sauce (which is amazing) it was different to other sushi restaurants we've been to because they actually use the bake sauce which is hard to find. Lastly, we had one of their kitchen stuff, im such a meat lover, the chicken teriyaki & beef teriyaki tnt combo was really cheap compared to the amount of food they gave us. A family owned business! They keep everything clean :) I come here often enough that they remember me and every time they greet me with a smile. Food is ready promptly 10-15 min. If they are busy it would take around 20-25 min! Fish always taste fresh and the presentation is amazing. Their chirashi is super cheap compared to other places.
