It's been quite a few years, but the experience is etched into my memory. I was remodeling my house and all the sheetrock was down. A man from Mike Howard came to look at the site before installation. My contractor had installed wiring in the wall to use for the garage door, so that the wires would not show. The Mike Howard guy assured me he'd use the wire and the installation would be neat and clean. When he installed, he completely ignored this, stapled wiring to the new, painted walls, and put the rails in crooked. When I called, a woman wouldn't let me talk to anyone with authority and argued with me--without knowing a thing about the situation. Horrible, horrible, horrible. I had hired Mike Howard to repair my garage door about two months ago and started having issues with the lock in the manual Garage door. I called and they set up an appointment the first they had available. Steve came out right on time and checked out the situation. He noted that the tension on the wires to the door knob were probably too tight and did an adjustment on the wires. The lock appears to be working well now. Thank you Steve! Stop shopping around. They are the best. Like you I probably called a bunch of people for estimates. If you really care about having a well installed door, that will last a long time, along with responsive customer service, this is your guy. Most of the other suppliers are doing a volume game and don't care how nice your door will be. Hunt around your neighborhood, find the one you want and Mike will make it happen. Everyone else is trying to push their brand, but while Mike has preferred high quality brands, he will get the one you want at the highest quality and a competitive installation price. He was. I was referred to this company by our local neighborhood app. I had multiple people suggest this company. I was seeking a second opinion. I already had another company come out. Within seconds, this man told me, he couldn't do anything for us. He basically said that we should gut the system we had and replace it with another one that would require us to remodel the garage to accommodate it. In his words, it would "cost us a fortune". I wanted a second opinion and contacted Mike Howard garage doors. Martin, the service man that came out was optimistic that he could get it fixed. It was more than a reasonable estimate. I decided to go with Mike Howard Garage Doors again, since they're notorious for doing great work, providing the best quality name brands in the industry, while delivering exceptional service. We had an old wood sectional door that was plagued with dry rot as the weather stripping below began to sag, forming a smile. We knew it was about time to replace it. It is the original door from 40 years ago, when the house was first built. The opener was a Genie Blue Max, which looked like an early -mid-90's model but began to fail about the time, I ordered my new door by Reynor, just a few months prior. Once the installation was complete, my new LiftMaster motor provides far more quieter operation than most conventional openers as I won't miss my Genie, which frequently leaked oil onto the garage floor, which I would track into the house. The new Reynor door is also 120 lbs. lighter than the wooden door, which is less stress and strain for the motor. I don't get too excited about home improvement projects, but this new garage door & opener was the best and most exciting investment I've made in years as I look forward to many more years of use out of my new garage door. read more

Garage door was stuck last time, squeaked a lot. The guy came out, lubed all the hinges, tightened every nut on the door (there must be like 80 of them on our heavy door). Got it working flawlessly. Then explains how to do it myself so I don't need to keep calling them! Reasonable $82, but it was well worth it for piece of mind, excellent courteous service. That was last year. This morning after a bonehead maneuver by moi (we wont go into details), called them out again. Less garrulous, but same excellent service. There is a reason why Mike Howard has 85% 5 STARS. They are extremely competent (certified for Liftmaster) and honest. He charged me the basic service fee for a 2 hr job. You don't find many honest and competent companies in the service businesses these days! I purchased my custom ordered CHI Carriage House Garage door from them 5 years ago. They had the best and most competitive pricing. Martin did a phenomenal job with the installation as well. He's very meticulous and attentive to detail. He installs doors like he's installing them on his own house. After 5 years, my garage door is holding up superb. No alignment issues, no balance issues and the door is operating just like the day it was installed. It has the cedar wood tone paint on the outside and after 5 years, it hasn't even faded out. I have never had to have a garage door serviced before. But I needed service now. When I went to shut my garage door, it wouldn't shut. It was patly down but not even. Grrrrrr....a big storm was coming. The last thing I needed was water coming into the garage onto my new carpet. (It's more of a pool room than a garage) I had noticed a sticker on one of my doors and called the company. I was quite happy to see the company was still around since it meant they must be doing something right. They sent two guys out and they serviced my garage door. They got the door back on track, made some little tweaks so it would work perfectly, lubricated the track and then sold me an opener that they programmed to work with both of my garage doors. I have two garages. One is a two car garage and the other one is a one car garage. They checked the one car garage door as well and lubricated the track and did some other things as well and then added that garage door to the opener as well. My house is up in the hills and they charged me a normal price and not an inflated one. I'm so happy I called them. The two guys who came out couldn't have been nicer. This is the second time in 7 years that I have called Mike Howard Garage Doors for service. Steve is the owner. His wife answered the call. She is very thorough, asked many relevant questions about the problem, and made sure Steve had the right parts when he comes the next day. Steve came promptly on time. Not only did he repaire the broken tension springs, Steve also explained how the garage door must have the right tension to float in the air without much manual effort. He also lubed the drive screws, sparyed the springs to prevent rust, and remounted the wall brackets because they were not done correctly by the house builders. Great, awesome Steve. After calling a bunch of companies, all of whom had lower bids, I decided to go with Mike Howard Garage Doors. I had a good experience with them back in 2004 but wanted to see if I could get a lower price. After a lot of research, you do realize there are a lot of unqualified companies out there selling/installing garage doors. If you don't know what you want, you need to go with a company that will give you the customer service to make the right decision. That's what Mike Howard's Garage Door does, and that's why you pay the extra money (only about 300.00 out of 3K). Your risk is getting a door you don't like. The "cheaper" companies out there: did not measure my opening correctly and had no problems with ordering the wrong door, specified a door that will be very ugly or very cheap, the receptionists are completely clueless or rude, the receptionists will play the blame game, etc... All the companies out there with the 5 star reviews with 100-300 reviews seems to be fake. I cannot imagine they would get 5 stars. Many of them are guys running the business out of their homes so good luck on any warranty. Steve gave me the guidance and options I needed. Martin installed the door and did a perfect job. Cleaned up and even helped me haul away extra junk. And that's what you pay for. SERVICE. Screwing up on a garage door choice or installation is not worth paying bargain basement. read more

We needed to replace our 20 year old Lift Master garage door opener. I wanted to go with the latest internet connected LiftMaster garage door opener. Based on Yelp research, reached out to Jennifer at MHG. I found my interactions very east and straight forward. With their inputs we selected LM 85503 WiFi connected opener with camera. Scheduled the appointment for someone to come out and install within 48 hours. Steve came out to install the new opener. He is very kind and nice. Knew his stuff really well. GreatService! As with the last garage door repair a few years ago (replaced the springs), the service was good and reasonably priced. I had asked to have the garage door opener replaced, as it was showing signs of electric motor failure. I was quoted $420 to replace it, and I was fine with that. When the technician arrived and evaluated the problem, he told me it was just a gear, left back to the office to get the part, came back and fixed it. $133! Please understand that the guy showed up with the new garage door opener on the back of his truck, knowing I agreed to have it installed based on my own (and now clearly inaccurate) assessment that the motor had died. It was a previously confirmed deal that he would replace the whole thing. He did the right thing and just replaced the broken gear. My guess is most guys would have just come out and done the replacement as per their work order or manifest. This guy saved me a lot of money, and I can't express how much this means to me as a consumer who is always looking for quality, reliable and honest contractors. Kudos to this company!! read more

The owner of Mike Howard Garage Doors (whose name is not Mike Howard as they bought the business) came out with another technician (not the one that we had trouble with) and fixed up the garage door. Since they came out months ago, it's been working great, far longer than it ever worked before without troubles. He also came out when we needed an adjustment when we renovated our garage. I have a three car garage and replaced the larger door's opener last year from Mike Howard. So when the smaller door's opener started to act up, I ordered another one. When the installer came to the house, I explained the problem, and also added that we hardly use this door. He looked at it and made some adjustments and now it worked fine.
