Decided to try this place on a whim. We were pleasantly surprised. It is a BYOB. We started with a zucchini flower, the batter was too heavy for such a delicate flower. Once I took the batter off the flower was wonderful. My hubby got the gnocchi which was extremely heavy but the sauce was excellent. I had a salmon dish that was excellent. Definitely order the homemade pasta. Duh! Lots of positive reviews for the cutlet with vodka sauce and it did not disappoint. The mushroom truffle sauce was phenomenal too. The stuffed zucchini flowers were too batter-coated and fried for my taste but good. Calamari was ok. Basic rolls (better bread would be great)! Maybe an off batch, but the meatballs were not good. They were actually watery. It's an upgraded pizzeria type atmosphere-nothing fancy, but cute and clean. Would definitely go back when in the area. Overall I really wanted to love this place Everything is an up charge - from meat to fresh pasta is extra ... entree does not come with anything ... depending on the dish the portions are on the small side. We enjoyed both dishes but the chicken franchise was slightly over cooked. The other platter came out warm not hot. The cheese at the table was like saw dust. The place was super busy and there was only 3 waiters - the two teenagers that were working - multiple times reached over us and was in our personal space throughout the entire meal. It's one of the restaurants I order from regularly on doordash because they are always consistent & their fresh homemade gnocchi is one of my favorites!! I always get it with the Chicken Vodka Burrata & that spicy vodka sauce makes me want to lick the plate clean! The breaded chicken is always perfectly done & I crave this dish on the regular. If you're dining in, this is a cozy, casual & alcohol free restaurant that doesn't allow outside beverages & has an extra fee for paying with a credit card. I do agree that everything is an up charge here, & nothing is included with their entrees. A regular bottle of water is $2 & a side salad is $6.50, but you do get a piece of bread lol. They'll try to sell you on their antioxidant juices that have no added sugar, but I always pass. Other than that, service has always been good & friendly. Lunch was very good, we ordered Italian wedding soup, meatballs with ricotta, bruschetta and a sausage, pepper, and onion sub we were happy with everything. They were busy and it was a holiday weekend we expected to wait. However, as an owner, have the courtesy to come up to us and take responsibility and apologize for a clear mistake made by the restaurant. They forgot or didn't put our appetizers and salad in. We waited over 45 minutes for an appetizer to come after we asked. Then, our entrées came while our appetizers were still on the table. Clearly by the dry crusted sauce on the rim of the plate they were under the heat lamp for quite some time. The owner stood by us multiple times, noticed we had no food, saw that we were upset, and avoided coming over. We went on Mothers Day and it was obvious they were understaffed. The initial entry was awkward when apparently a bus boy seated us with no knowledge of the menu or how to serve. He literally brought 5 bottles of water to the table.It led to confusion when our server finally arrived. The server also struggled a bit with menu questions concerning the fresh pasta choices. It was also disappointing that the menu was limited for Mothers Day. I would skip appetizers as they were over priced for what you got. The fried calamari literally had 15 rings and 2 shrimp! The brushetta board was good. The entrees saved the day. They were very good and plentiful. The pasta was cooked perfect and the burretta was a nice touch. If you choose desert, I recommend the carrot cake. The Tiramasu was mushy and the crème brûlée was nothing special. We were seated at a booth with a chair added to the end of the table which made things a little tight for 5 adults. If you are going to go for a decent dinner, you will be satisfied. I would skip the apps and desert. For some reason we were told they discontinued the antipasto board which is what attracted us the first time. Starting with the staff I will say that every staff member that we met was friendly, outgoing, warm and welcoming. It was much like arriving at a relative's house for dinner. I also have to mention that the decor added to the illusion that I was eating in a comfortable home. Now for the main reason we go to restaurants ... the food! This is where my happiness skyrocketed. The bruschetta was amazing. It tasted so good; the bread was so flavorful; the dressing was like a gift ... I could have made a meal just from the bruschetta. But I didn't. I kept going. The homemade pasta was second to none, and I have dined in the best Italian restaurants in NYC and in NJ. I opted for the jambalaya in a creamy vodka sauce with shrimp, sausage and chicken that was spectacular. The word spectacular doesn't quite reach the level I want, but it will do. Mike's has become our go to comfy Italian spot. Outstanding pasta dishes like the Fettuccine Carbonara and Crab and Shrimp Vodka sauce. Prices are very reasonable as most dishes are in the low $20 range. Specials are updated regularly and you won't get bored of this menu. There are some great appetizers like the Fried Zucchini and some of the best bruschetta we have had. Mikes is a family owned and operated restaurant that makes you feel like family when you are there. We love that it is byob and usually not a problem to get a table. What a little hidden gem! My in laws just moved to Egg Harbor so we went for Father's Day. Our server was super nice! My father in law had to go in to compliment/meet Mike because he loved it so much! All of our food was delicious! I got the tagliatelle in vodka sauce- literally licked my plate clean!
