A huge SHOUT OUT to Mike's Appliance in El Sobrante! I discovered my upright freezer had died last night as I was unloading a delivery of meats and fish. I got online this morning and couldn't find any place that would deliver before the end of the week. No working freezer would mean a loss of nearly $3,000 of meat and fish. I drove to Mike's Appliance and purchased a freezer. They would be able to deliver on Monday afternoon. They were able to direct me to some dry ice so I could make it through the weekend. As I was walking out to my car, completely satisfied, Mike called my name and offered to drop off the freezer after the store closed today! It is 4:16 PM and my new freezer is installed and cooling in my garage! I will move the meats and fish to their new home in a couple of hours. After I purchased two appliances from Mike's, I discovered the next day that all the big box stores were selling the identical makes and models each for $221 less than I paid Mike's. That is a total of $442 I overpaid. When I brought this to Mike's attention, they refused to make any concessions whatsoever. Not even a discount coupon on a future purchase. I had expected to pay a small premium to this local, independent retailer in return for exceptional care and attention with the installation. Instead, the installation was just adequate. Adam was my sales rep. He is knowledgeable and friendly. The store is clean. No bells and whistles. Used appliances are clean. Old appliances of course will show wear depending upon the previous owners, but there are many that look close to new. There are some appliance stores (new and used) who are less than honest. After months of trying to make a decision, I found this business to be both forthright and honest. Appliance inventory is very low nationwide so selecting a temporary affordable option is one I am taking until supplies open up again. The new range I wanted is back ordered for a year with no guarantee that it won't be longer. They have quick delivery and reasonable warranties. In my opinion, they have something for every budget. They do not stock dishwashers. considering these are used appliances. Finding the place was tricky but kept trying. read more

I ordered a kitchenaid wall oven from bestbuy and after waiting a month they came over and said they couldn't install it in our cabinet. I decided to stop by mikes appliances, the staff there is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She let me know which units match my specs and coincidentally one of them was the same kitchenaid wall oven I had ordered. I told her if they can make it fit I'll take it, she assured me they can make it work and the owner himself (not some sub contractor) visited our house. This is a company that actually wants to make it work and they deliver. Their line of products are high quality and the knowledge and customer service can not be matched by the big stores. BEWARE OF MIKE'S APPLIANCE. I purchased a new refrigerator in Jan. 2023. After it was delivered and they left I noticed the lower door wouldn't close properly and had a small chip on it. They came back and repositioned the door and told me that they would order a new door. The worker also noticed an inside tray would not pull out properly, and a new one would be ordered. That might take two months. When the new door arrived it was the small upper door. Another order. Never came. After three more requests in 2023, by phone, I never got the repairs. I went into the store in December, 2023, to speak to the owner in person. He wondered why I was so concerned. He said, "The refrigerator runs, doesn't it?" He later called me and said both parts would arrive in January, 2024. It's now been 15 months and I am still waiting. Did they sell me a used refrigerator and try to get away with it? I'm 83 years old and first joked that maybe that maybe they are waiting for me to die. Now, it's no joke. I'll update this in a month, if I don't get blocked. read more

It's very hard to find a large upright freezer in stock. I e-mailed Mike's Appliances and they had a large upright freezer in stock. I went down the next day and bought it. It was so easy and quick. I was so fortunate to find one. All the big box stores and larger appliance outlets had no stock. It was delivered the following Tuesday with the old unit recycled. I was in need of a new refrigerator! Most of the big box places don't deliver for at least 5 days! I went to Mike's on a Saturday and they said they could deliver on Monday! People were very nice! My only problem, there is a nasty, rusty gouge on the corner of the frig. Also, there was a tag on top that you could barely read and looked like it had been soaked! Not sure where they store the appliances ! I wiped the inside of the freezer and it was filthy! The delivery men were very, very nice! The gouge did not happen by them as it was rusty! I will have to touch up the gouge which I shouldn't have to do. I like to support local business and Mike's was recommended by a friend! Mike's Appliances is the way to go. When the old dishwasher stopped working, I called Mike's based on a neighbor's referral. Kathy took the time to review various new dishwasher models available. Two days later, Darin installed the new dishwasher, putting in extra effort to relocate an electrical socket and make sure the new dishwasher slid back to the wall. Now my new dishwasher not only works, but the front of it is flush with the countertop. I didn't know that this level of service was possible. This is the advantage of doing business with a local company. I will be calling Mike's again for my future appliance needs. read more

Mike's level of service is why I choose locally owned businesses. I had a washer and dryer repaired on a Friday afternoon. Friday evening the dryer still wasn't working right. I called at 4:45p and was told Mike would show up on Saturday. Sure enough, Mike came by -- on his day off -- and had a look. Turned out, my homespun version of the lint collector was the problem, too much back pressure. Mike was good-humored about the whole thing as I stood with a bit of egg on my face. Trust this guy.
