There are certain places you can go to eat and you feel just like you're home. In fact, when it comes to burgers, some places are much better than home (no offense Dad, but they just have better tools at Mike's). I was a little worried when I heard about the change in the long standing "no french fries" policy at Mike's, but I have to say that it's just fine that they have allowed the culture shift. They even tell you now why it's okay to have fries (on Fridays and the weekend). I have had both the pesto and the hickory burger and can recommend them wholeheartedly to meat eaters. The pesto burger is just the right size, just the right taste, and will leave you feeling contented and happy that you've come out to eat. It pleases me that the ownership makes it a point to use locally sourced and responsibly produced beef. The beer selection is hearty without being overwhelming. I can always find one that matches my mood -- and when I want to watch a ball game or eat while I sniff out what's happening on ESPN, this is a good place to sit. Great burgers! Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to eat here before ownership changed, but I had a good experience here last week. I was with three other people, and our orders took about 15-20 mins to come out; they weren't busy or anything, so that seemed a little slow. The waitresses took care of us though, and made sure our drinks were filled and all that, so that was great. I had the Mike Burger, which was very delicious. The bread was soft and toasty, and the meat was medium-well. Very mouthwatering. I love their menu's description for it: "We don't know why it's so good, it just is." That's so true! Too bad the macaroni salad side wasn't as good--it was a little bland, the macaroni felt undercooked, and overall it didn't seem very fresh. Mike's burgers are the best! They're about as big as your head, and you'll wish you had an extra stomach just to handle all the burger goodness that you get. These bad boy burgers come with all the traditional stuff...lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles....and they're all good and fresh. I particularly love the hickory burger. I'm not sure if it's just a vehicle for the bbq sauce that I lick off the plate, but it's pretty yummy. As sort of a holdover from the original owner, Mike's serves fries only on fridays and possibly saturdays. I'm not sure about sundays. Additionals include green salad and macaroni or potato salad, which are all fresh and delish too. This is a no-frills sorta joint. There's beer to drink while you wait because you *will* wait- the line tends to be long especially on fridays, and they don't have anything waiting under a heater. read more

Had I reviewed this before the change of ownership this might have been 4 or 5 stars, but I have to say that Mike's it is a-changing. I love fried burgers and HATE any flame or char, so Mike's caught my heart long ago. I'm also not a big fry fan. I have enjoyed the pesto burger a few times, but my favorite is the Navou. I used to order it as it's listed, but one day when we arrived I smelled carmelized onions and had an inspiration to order it with those. DEEEELLLLIIIISSSHHHH. But... the last two times we've been it took well over an hour. With 2 little kids in tow, this was NOT GOOD! A third time it was so crowded we had to skip it. I don't think that has anything to do with the size, but rather with the incredibly SLOW service. With tip it cost us nearly $50 (so I think the rating of $ is off) and that didn't even include a drink for my husband. For burgers! Maybe it's the economy, but I'm just not willing to shell out that much for burgers and grilled cheese again. So like a previous poster, I am looking for another burger place because I think we might be done with Mike's. Maybe... sometimes those burgers just call you and you've got nowhere else to go. read more

Mike's is a good burger joint. When I first went there I went with the impression that this was going to be the BEST burger I have ever had in my life. The burger was GOOD, but definitely not the BEST burger I have ever had. It definitely beats a fast food joint and is worth trying, but I just can't put it up there with the top burgers I have ever had. One more downside the Mike's (which stopped me from giving them 4 stars) is the fact that they only serve fries on the weekends (your burger usually comes with chips). I know some people think that's wonderful, but to me, burgers and fries go hand-in-hand and are an American classic. Ok PROS- good is good, large quantity and the cooks know a medium rare from a well done. Simple yet some don't. CONS- Service is lacking.... Heavily! Was there for 7-10 min before they even noticed me. The when that did they took 5 min to bring me a menu(seated my self and 3 others in my party) once we got the menu another 7 min went by, a waiter came by and asked if we wanted something to drink and before I could finish asking if they had iced tea, a guest walked in she knew and says hi and what not....RUDE. All said and done 22 min from door to table.... Then food took another 12 min. Now we are talking about 34 min! To start eating.... No! Only way I gave this place 3 stars is for the actual food. I've worked in a kitchen before and know it's not the cooks fault that the service is poor. For the cooks, keep up the good work. As for the service.... Well maybe try a little hustle.... I've been going here for years. I haven't had a terrible meal. On this occasion I got the Pesto Burger with Pepper Jack and Bacon with the potato salad with a side of pesto. The food was good, but not spectacular. The burger was beautifully cooked to medium rare, but it lacked salt and pepper. The potato salad was bland and lacked flavor. I also got a side of chili cheese fries, which were ok. The chili wasn't very meaty and had beans, and the fries came frozen out of a bag. Huge burgers and generous portions with great prices! I opted for the Nouvoo burger which was generously loaded w blue cheese. Meat was great real tasty beef. Fries were great, tasted fresh and home made. Had been here once before and remembered the burgers were good. My memory served me well because the hamburgers are the star of the show here. Cooked medium rare, exactly as ordered and served with a smile. Meat is good quality and the accessories (lettuce, onion, tomato) were fresh. The sides are just ok. Potato salad was lackluster but the garlic fries was anything but! If you love garlic, you'll love these fries. I do like garlic, don't get me wrong, but I don't like my mouth tasting like garlic two days later. I brushed and I brushed but I could have easily scared off vampires (seasonal reference). This used to be the best burger place in the area, it was definitely the go to place for a great burger and fries. I went there again a month ago. Believe me, it wasn't my idea. But, I thought "Why, not? Maybe I was too hard on them." No. I was not. In fact, I have removed a star because it was a dreadful experience. The worst part of the meal was the topping on the KRSH burger which was described as 'sauted mushrooms and onions with a zinfandel glaze." Yum. What I actually got was a pile of sauted onions and some mushrooms with little flavor (but a star for the saute) in a glob of mayonnaise. Yuk. Mayonnaise glaze? The meat was fine. Fresh with no flavor. The buns were fine, Fresh with no flavor or body. The meat was undrained as usual so it drips a lot (warning, lean forward). I wouldn't mind the drip if it had flavor. Just because it's messy, doesn't mean it's good. The lettuce on the burger and in the salad was was very fresh and not iceberg. It was the best thing on my plate. Unfortunately, the dressing rendered it weirdly and sadly inedible. I love vinagrette but Mike's version of oil & vinegar is vegetable oil and cooking vinegar. It wasn't bad or rancid, it was fresh, but it's not something you would voluntarily eat. Do they not know this? Yuk. In summ: The burgers are still big, (even if not good) and service was excellent. Left a good tip and a resolve never to return. PS RE: question @ Kids. All I can say about this quaint burger joint by the 101N. is that they HAVE THE MOST AMAZING PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM SANDWICH/BURGER... yumm... for a vegetarian dish it was incredible. On the weekends, you can order the side of FRIES. We were kinda confused as to why fries are only served on the weekends, maybe next time when we're in the area, and we decide to grab another Portobello Mushroom burger we'll ask! Extremely good burgers, and they were willing to combine their blue cheese option (I forget its name) with their wicked garlic option (more than a head of garlic piled on) --didn't have to worry about anyone invading my personal space for the rest of the afternoon! I am not the biggest fan of burgers, even when they are well done, so I do not enjoy paying over $10 for one as I don't look at them as a culinary treat. Good local burger joint for the price but the service is awful! They offer a wide range of different types of burgers you can try, but it can be hit of miss with having it cooked to order. I don't have anything awful to say about the food but it's aggravating when the place is nearly empty and the waitresses are just standing around chatting with each other at the bar and we are waiting for someone to take our order. After 10m of waiting I finally went to the bar to ask if they come to us or we are suppose to come up to the bar and order. 3 tables is not 'busy' in that place. After the 2nd time, we won't be going back. I have been coming to the restaurant with my family since I was a kid. I have lived all over the united states and traveled to Europe. So I have tried quite a few different restaurants in my 32 years of living. Mikes at the Crossroads is hands down my favorite burger place in Northern California. I just moved back to town a few months ago and have been craving it ever since. Ever since COVID hit I have been avoiding going to public places due to the awkwardness of the social distancing and mask wearing, that I totally I understand. I am a believer in social distancing and mask wearing. Anyway I'm so glad they are still in business after the whole COVID tragedy. I tried to have a delivery service pickup my order and they totally flaked on me, I was told they wouldn't be able to pick up my food. My car broke down last week so right now I'm having a hard time getting around. So I Thought about it and I just chalked it up as another L on the loss column. So I called them up and apologized and told them I would not be able to pick up the food, go ahead and keep the money and the food. They do not deliver obviously but they went out of there way and offered to bring it over free of charge. So im definitely going to be eating at this place often and again from now on and I recommend it because all the different burger choices are all so tasty. I love there potato salad, all around there food is good.Every waitress that has worked there over the years has been extremely friendly. You can see there chefs working hard every time, they put effort in everything they do. Its also a great place to have a beer or a milk shake with a date or a buddy. I've been here several times, and while the burgers taste decent, they've gone downhill a bit in taste lately. I was mildly disturbed by the 'promo' they have about their meat source, Harris Ranch. Anyone who has driven down I-5 to LA has smelled the stink of that place, and I try to avoid that quality of meat.
