Decided to try Mike's for dinner with some friends. My friends were regulars and were excited to bring us. We were eating a bit late, so when we arrived we were able to be seated right away. Oh, this was a Saturday evening and the place wasn't packed, however there were enough patrons to keep the waiters hopping. The really best part of our dinner experience was our waitress. She was very informative and had a great sense of humor. She visited the table often and each time had a comment that simply cracked us up. We ordered a small onion ring for tithe table as out appetizer and it was thinly sliced onions with a light fantast coating. When they quickly and me I mean quickly arrived at our table we were shocked to find a rather large basket full. It really made one wonder how big was the large size? For my meal I ordered the baked scallop and haddock combo. Both the scallops and haddock were backed perfectly with a cracker coating. To be honest, I felt they over did it with the cracker crumbs. For my side, I ordered a double order of butternut squash. It was also fantastic. My wife ordered the crab cakes and wasn't all the impressed. The cakes were more cake than crab meat. My friends ordered a Haddock Sandwich, which he loved and his wife ordered the coconut shrimp and she enjoyed every bite. Oh, she got the butternut squash also. Had an impromptu lunch here on a Sunday. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. With clam shack in the name, my wife and I both got the clam strip basket. There was an insane amount of clams for the price. The clams tasted like the oil they fried them in was changed 15 minutes before our order. Very happy with our choice. read more

Solely based on the clam chowder which we got for takeout: again and again and again... Thick, filled with clams and some potato. Don't know how they do it, but this is the clam chowder that going forward will be our standard for every one we ever try again. It was that good!!! read more

Very busy parking lot upon pulling in and we were told it would be a 30-40 minute wait. While they were out of the prime rib special for the night, which was mostly why we went, the food we did order was great. This place is amazing. The menu is as Hugh as the venue, the quality of the food is great, and the service is quick and friendly. Music tonight was an added bonus. Just like each restaurants in Wells, 5 star in need of a golden buzzer. First, the meal... A bowl of chowda and a 2lb lobsta.. I cant say enough. The lobsta that I saved from drowning, was extremely sweet. The clam chowder was un-beatable. Way better than that acclaimed restaurant whose initials are LS.. Now for the price, something this good could charge 25% more and I would still order. That being sait, the prices were unreal and totally reasonable... Going back every weekend in wells. read more

Honestly the food was fine. Wasn't great and wasn't bad. The prices are HIGH in my opinion for what you get. I had the clams. They were fresh but a side of fries for the $20+ would have been good. Swung in here for a light lunch. We had the Seafood Chowder, it was awesome! Light, creamy, butter..full of flavor AND seafood. Huge chunks. We got a cup and determined that was enough, a bowl would probably be too rich. My husband and I split a coconut shrimp appetizer. That was great as well. Crunchy with fresh shrimp flavor. Excellent food, my granddaughter got the bbq ribs, my daughter got the lazy man lobster and I got the lobster pie . The food was delicious although a little expensive. The desserts were yummy, chocolate mousse pie, peanut butter and chocolate pie and NY cheesecake. We got there at 5 and were seated right away but the place promptly filled soon after!! Mike's is a popular place for lunch and dinner among tourists and locals. The restaurant is MUCH bigger than it appears from the road. Its large size and enormous parking lot accommodates the crowds of people eating hear on the busy weekends and slower midweek days. When we arrived on a Monday evening, we were told there would be about a 30-45 minute wait. We were pleasantly surprised to only wait about 15 minutes, though. The restaurant is enormous inside, decorated with a nautical theme and a smattering of local history on the walls. Lots of seafood and non-seafood choices on the menu. After ordering appetizers and salads, our food began arriving within 5-10 minutes. Guests at our table ordered lobster bisque, salads, fried clams, lobster, and hamburgers. The bisque was packed with big chunks of lobster meat. Fried clams were generous. The big hamburger was perfectly cooked with crispy fries. Lobster was fresh and delicious. The busy, fast-moving wait staff was smiling, friendly, and attentive. Prices were very reasonable and we will definitely come back when we return to visit family in Wells, ME. read more

Two stars for good french onion soup, but overall I am being generous. First, went in for lunch (alone) and sat at the bar area high top to get some work done. (No Wifi FYI) Service was slow and there were only 2 others in the bar area. When I was approached, the server seemed grumpy and annoyed (this would be very apparent later). The lunch menu was ok looking and when I asked if the clam cakes were fresh, I was told they come frozen from a food delivery service (THANK YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY). I avoided that option and went for the french onion soup and a side salad. While I was waiting for my lunch, two servers were standing behind me at a station and were complaining about the schedule and other things about restaurant management - dropping several FBombs and talking very negatively about the staff. *I should have asked for a different seat at this point* My lunch arrived and the soup was very good! Rich broth and loaded with melted cheese and onions (yum). The "bread" was large salad croutons, but still good. Salad was basic, nothing you cant get at McDs. I went to the ladies rooms and once again, there were 2 employees in there, complaining and talking poorly about co-workers. At this point I was annoyed that the safety would conduct themselves in such a way in from.of patrons, I mentioned it to the manager on duty. She did t have much to say about it... We ordered from the takeout window and waited to eat outside. Maybe the restaurant sit down service is different - I definitely would not take the fried whole clams to go. Really don't understand the draw to this place. With all the fresh seafood places in the area and people come here in droves. The place is not very clean. The seafood just below average. I think the draw maybe the cost to eat here. read more

One of our two go to places for food in Wells. Never had a bad meal here and their calamari is spot on.

Really good food. It gets busy at lunchtime but it's worth the wait. The haddock is my go to and the chowder is top notch h.

Let me start by what I do for a living. I'm a Bartender and an Account Manager. 2018 Christmas Prelude weekend with the girls in Maine. We walk into Mike's Clam Shack for dinner Friday night @ roughly 5:30 p.m.. There were at least 5 employees all standing around the reception desk where an older woman with glasses was behind the desk. 3 of us walk in, they all look at us and they go back to their conversations? It was extremely awkward for not one of them to greet us...how about "hello, can we help you?" Or how about "Hi, are you here for dinner or the bar?" Nope! I said "hi, we're here for dinner" The older woman then said, after she sized us up (really wierd) said "dining room or lounge?" We opted for the lounge. Not a warm fuzzy feeling at this point. Zero customer service from the front desk. Our waitress Melissaa was awesome! Acknowledged us right away. We chatted with her about Christmas Prelude, etc. She was a bring shining star. Our appetizers were fantastic, clam chowda was superb. 2 of of got prime rib and the 3rd had baked scallops. Food was great. Melissaa was spot on with her customer service and waitress skills. She clearly turned around a rough start. Upon leaving the restaurant and going into the gift shop, we encountered the same older gray haired women with glasses....again I gave it my best shot to try and engage her. I said "thankyou everything was great" And again she just glared at the 3 of of and said nothing! We go into the gift shop and picked up a couple things. The young cashier was super friendly and we chatted with her for a few minutes. She had a jar there for a college fund, we donated and chatted about what school she wanted to attend. Another breath if fresh air. I dont know who owns Mike's Clam Shack, but to have that woman at the hostess desk is definitely doing a dis-service to the business. You need to get her out of there and replace her with someone that has some customer service skills. Would I go back? Most likely yes....in fact if I see her again, I'll just ask her why shes so miserable. read more

My family and I had a great dinner at Mike's. Lobster stews had hefty portions of lobster and the whole bellies clams were delicious. The fried baby gulf shrimp and captains platter were also great! The service was wonderful especially considering there were eleven of us. We will definitely be back with our families again next summer! read more

Good Lobster Roll Over the years we have stopped here several times for a beer, clam chowder, lobster roll, fried whole clams and the fried haddock sandwich. The lobster rolls are really good and full of lobster meat as are the whole belly clams they are outstanding. Good service friendly staff and reasonable prices. If I could I'd give this place a 100 out of 5 stars! Best whole belly clams and scallops are the best I've ever had. Service is great too. Gift shop mainly jelly lobster hats and magnets but that's an okay start. Enjoyed the food more than the beer that's how good it is. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect based on the reviews but was very happy. We arrived at 4:45 or so with 2 hungry kids and 2 adults. We were seated right away. There were already quite a lot of people here! We chose mikes because the variety on the menu. Both kids are somewhat picky and 1 is allergic to shellfish so coastal eating is a challenge. Waiter was really cool guy. However we ordered a bottle of wine and had to pour ourselves. I don't mind and I know this is a glorified clam shack but isn't it taught in waiting 101 to pour for the customer? But again we didn't really care. I had the clam strips. Perfectly fried with great breading. Clams were not chewy at all. Hubby had the seafood pie - shrimp, scallops, and lobster in a sherry cream sauce with puff pastry top. Could have used more lobster but otherwise was very tasty. They get 5 stars from me because they have become our "go - to" when dining with the kids in Wells. This is the second time that we have had a short vacation yet we ended up at Mike's twice. They had a short wait (45 minutes) for 4 people on a summer night at 6ish. They let you do "call ahead" seating when most restaurants don't / won't. We were seated as soon as we arrived. Our meal & server Susie, was great. Everyone left satiated. Mr Bethany was very pleasantly surprised by his Chicken Parm. It had a fabulously light tomato sauce, al dente linguine pasta, and a pan fried chicken cutlet the size of a Frisbee. I had a cup of their Seafood Chowder and Steak Tips. Baby Man had the Kraft Macaroni and Cheese with a side of fries ( he LIVES for carbs). Baby Girl decided to split my entree with me. 5 stars for feeding my family with no stops at Mickey D's on the way home :) **We did stop for lunch here on the 4th and my son got Mac & cheese which was less than 1/2 of what we got for dinner the next day. Way overpriced, no seasoning freshness of ingredients are questionable. For the cost of two people to eat was outrageous.

My friends and I took a road trip to Maine and stayed the night. I found out about the place on Yelp and someone from the Hampton Inn also suggested it to us. Now I've been craving for fresh seafood for months and I have to say it's not what I expected. The lobster was great don't get me wrong, but the steamers I had had too much sand in them for me even after dipping in the broth to wash them off. BACON WRAPPED SCALLOPS THOUGH!!! they were heavenly. I could have eaten a boastful of those!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND them! Nice and cozy atmosphere too! Dessert- they have a variety that varies from day to day and a ton of pies. My kid gave a 10 out 10 because the ginger cake was fluffy and not too sweet. My wife liked this place because the seafood chowder was amazing. Maybe we are spoiled by good clam chowders in Boston and Cape Cod, and we were horrified by the "award winning clam chowder" in Portland Maine. Busy, very family friendly and fresh. Don't be intimidated by the wait in the summertime; this bunch knows how to flip tables. Dining room was busy (this is not a "roadside shack," despite the name) on a summer Monday. Our party of nine walked in within 5 minutes of arrival. Menu is varied and includes fried, broiled and baked seafood, plus burgers, pastas and salads for the land lubbers. Broiled scallops were great with a baked potato and zucchini.
