Best slaw I've ever had. Not the best clams though I'm pretty picky about that. They were very good clams though, a bit chewier and not as big bellied as I'd hoped but they were extremely tasty. This place won me over enough that I even enjoyed the gift shop -- that's saying something. I think. This was the second stop on my New England tour for fried clams. I was a bit surprised that it in fact is not a clam shack at all but rather a clam church. The place is huge and you might expect any day now that its parking lot may take absorb any other establishment anywhere near it -- like the blob, only a parking lot. Anyway, the service was great, the food was top notch -- loved the clams, loved the lobster and the slaw... oh my, the slaw... The interior was a little overly-homogenized. I was expecting a quaint place with a nice view and some local color but instead got a family chain restaurant vibe. But the food and the 20 something ounce Allagash white in a glass literally the shape of a football more than made up for any of these appearance qualms. Arrived on Sunday afternoon of February opening weekend, thinking that by 2pm the lunch crowd would be thinning. Hah! It was a 30 minute wait for a two-top! The place was packed. We moseyed into the bar, though, and as luck would have it found a table right away. Our waitress was a total sweetheart & very friendly, although not the most visible person, i.e. she disappeared for what seemed like loooooong periods of time. It was busy, though, so I guess that's life. Along the same lines, the food seemed to take quite a while. But again, it was busy and it was opening weekend, too, so... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here. Food was a little hit or miss. Great, classic clam chowder and a properly sized portion for such a decadent calorie bomb. Lobsters were good (how can they not be?), but the steamed clams were a little iffy (not bad, just not, well, great, plus REALLY gritty), french fries on the other hand were PERFECT. Nice, light fry. We guzzled a number of seasonal beers from the tap which were definitely fresh. All in all, a perfectly fine experience. Don't know that I'd rush back, given the slow service and the average food experience. But for the time, it worked perfectly for us and what we wanted. Service was great! We ordered the seafood chowder and that was delicious!!! Lots of fresh tasting morsels of all sorts of seafood and it was not as thick as clam chowder so I LOVE IT! My friend orderd the 1 1/8lb lobster while the kiddo had the fish and chips (where we subsituted the chips for peas-she only ate 3 of it and refused to eat the rest but she loved the fish) I had the lobster pot pie for abt $22!! I was a bit dissapointed how small it was for the price being paid- palm size- and my palm is very small but it came with my requested order of chips and it was good enough a portion to fill me up. The pot pie was filled with claw parts and lots of butter and a lovely crust. I will not order the pot pie again (too pricey) but I may go back for the Monday dinner lobster special. read more

Food was excellent, and service was very good but strained due to a rush! Every server was polite, knowledgable, and helpful. I had Haddock & Chips a decent portion, nearly as much Haddock as chips! It was delicious, lightly battered and perfectly seasoned. Also, cooked just right moist and cooked through, nicely done. Every meal came out together and was correct in a party of 9! A local at the lighthouse in York told us that this place had the best clams in Maine, so we stopped by on our way north. We came in mid-afternoon so happy hour was going on (free wings and pizza and discounts on draft beer and well drinks). We ordered clam chowder, which they brought out the seafood one by mistake, friend clams and a lobster dinner special. The clams and chowder were ok, especially considering that we rarely eat fried food. The lobster dinner consisted of a lobster and fries - the lobster was fresh and delicious, overall a good deal. Stopped here with Marcia today for an early dinner. Seating was quick and waitress was very attentive. We ordered the mussels to split for an appetizer and the all u can eat haddock and clam strips as our entrees. The mussels were divine. Sautéed in garlicky butter and wine. We sopped up the juice with our crusty bread and loved it. When the waitress came with the dinners we were bowled over. Huge portions! Each came with cole slaw and French fries. The haddock was fresh white and juicy inside and crisp on the outside. Clam strips were tender and tasty. Served with lemon and tarter sauce. We could not finish our dinners. Waitress brought us extra rolls and free refills on iced tea. Everything was great. Will be back. read more

I have been here a few times during the summer visits to Maine and always had a good experience overall. I remember enjoying haddock, lobster, as well a few other dishes. I have never had anything but seafood here. Overall, very good. I wouldn't stay outstanding, but certainly a worthy place. The clam chowder, on the other hand, was amazing! I get it for my appetizer every time I go. There are so many choices for food around here but for the money, I have found Mike's to the best bang for the buck. The place is large and very comfortable. Servers have always been excellent. We has whole belly clams, mussels and seafood chowder. All was good but nothing great like smaller places we have been in Maine. Been coming to the area for a few years now AND why I hadn't tried Mike's Clam Shack is beyond me! Came for lunch with my Mom and Sister. I had the coconut shrimp with Onion Rings and my Mom had the fried clam strips with sweet potato fries. We shared the meals AND the clam strips were VERY light not saturated in old oil you could tell they changed the oil often same for the onion rings. The sweet potato fries were not frozen from a bag they too were fresh. My sister had the steamers and she said they were excellent. They weren't sandy and she had a small portion and was given quite a bit. I would definitely come back here again. Great place for adults to go - tough on families because of the long wait to be seated. We went for dinner around 7pm, sat in the pub area and after about a 10 minute wait a table opened up. The food was excellent, stuffed sole with lobster and scallops and steamers...no complaints out of either of us. We hung out and listened to the band, had great company at the tables around us and our waitress was friggin amazing!~! We saw so many wait stuff running around and she was on her money, always looking for eye contact, never missed a beat, laughed with us, joked around at us having 7 kids (lord help us) and even gave us pointers on things to do and see while we were there (including other places to try to eat - kudos to her!). I recommend this place to anyone, absolute must and the cost is very doable! read more

We came in a Monday afternoon 3:30pm, place was empty and the first thing that it called my attention is that when we asked our server to move us to a bigger table since we have people join us, she said not, but the place was still empty, doesn't make sense. We order lobster rolls and haddock, drinks and food came out fast but for our disappointment fish and lobster was frozen, not fresh as advertised, what a disappointment, the last think we expected was to get frozen lobster in Maine :(. But we did. I gave the three stars just because the food came fast and it would've been just about ok if we didn't know better, still doesn't make it right the fact that you advertise fresh sea food and serve frozen, just a thought. read more

Every spoonful has the perfect blend of small chopped clams, small chopped potatoes and the perfect balance of flavor that is rich without being too rich. Came here on a Saturday night, so it was expected to be busy. There was a take out window which was nice. I came with two other people. I got a clam chowder, which was good. My friend ordered the fish chowder but it was cold when it came out, and not a chowder consistency. She ordered coleslaw (a side). Never received it. Super large facility and my expectations based upon this were low but actually exceeded my expectations. Excellent clam chowder...one of the best. I ordered fried clams and the portion was super large. Large clams were very meaty, would have enjoyed more if I had placed them on a napkin to remove excess oils...this is just a thing I have with any fried food and it would have made them more enjoyable. Wife got the lobster roll and even though we've had larger ones the lobster was sweet and tender. I recommend and I'd also recommend the much friendlier sports bar side as well. After visiting several well-rated restaurants along the coast and being sorely disappointed, we decided to try a lobster market. Mike's Fish Market and Lobster Pound is adjacent to Mike's Clam Shack. We purchased claw and tail meat, stuffed clam, scallop, and crab, and a bit of yellowfin. The prepared foods were cooked to perfection and as tender and tasty as can be. Waited 45 minutes for a table. When we came in to see how much longer, we find out that we could have sat in the pub with no wait.
