The other morning, I was headed into the office through the valley and I decided to treat my employees with donuts. I knew there was a new national chain donut shop in the valley, but couldn't remember where. When I searched Yelp to get the address, I noted that they only had a 3.5 star review, while "Mike's" had a 5 star. Trusting yelp, I headed over to the hico village and the nondescript "donuts" sign. Freaking awesome donuts are made by Mike himself with a small army of staff to support him. Two large signs warn that apple fritters are limited to 6, but there weren't any to try that morning just before 7. Old fashioned donuts, maple bars and deliciousness. I took a dozen back to the office and we all agreed (even our trained pastry chef) that the buttermilk bar was the best donut we had ever had. Go here- it is unassuming, but worth it! read more

Old school donut shop! They have some really good donuts, only sad part is that I walked in around 830 and the selection was very limited at that point. You don't have to go anywhere else in Spokane Valley for doughnuts! Not ever. Ever. You hear me? This place is fanfreakintastic! The doughnuts are fresh and oh so naughty! The ONLY ones I will buy on cheat day from now on! My hubby and I got a maple bacon bar filled with Bavarian cream as a special request and ate them in the car. Five minutes later, we went back in and got another special request of a Bavarian cream filled bar for my hubby and a blueberry filled bar with powdered sugar for me. The doughnuts have a light crisp on the outside, and are fluffy and soft on the inside. The fillings and frostings aren't so sweet you feel like your teeth are going to fall out. Donuts were fresh and tasty however they only have specialty donuts at certain times on certain days. I have went in for apple fritters twice- once not knowing they don't make them at all hours (didn't want to wait 45 minutes for them to go in the fryer) and another time they were sold out when I got there. One day a friend and I decided to go "donut tasting" around Spokane at 5am. Mike's was THE BEST out of all the shops! They have this one smallish donut that is there signature donut and it's amazing! It comes in a few different flavors: chocolate, strawberry, coconut, and vanilla (vanilla seemed weird, but it was both of our favorites!!) I absolutely loved this place. The ladies working were extremely friendly and helpful. We were making our way home from Seattle and hit here around 9am, we were hungry. We ordered a dozen and sat at one of the tables. They were so delicious. Needless to say that dozen was gone in about 5 minutes. We ordered maple and cinnamon and sugar while we were there. We ordered another dozen of maple and glazed for the next morning. They weren't as good the day after, but better than anything we can get at home. If we are ever that way while they are open we will for sure be stopping. read more

Best donuts around! Been a fan since he was on Argonne, near Mission, then out to Sprague and Bowdish and now the Hico Village. The only problem is that he is walking distance from my house, if you call that a problem. :) Mike is a great guy and has super friendly staff. He greets me by name every time I walk in the door. When he's taking a break, he's sitting at the counter with his customers and they all look like they are having a great time. The Donut Parade maple bar lives on!!! For those who grew up going to donut parade and were devastated when they shut down, worry no more. Mikes Old Fashioned Donuts carries on the tradition of making amazing maple bars and having a unique atmosphere. Located next to a gas station it's doesn't appear to be very special from the outside but is actually quite large inside and has a diverse crowd of donut lovers gathered around. As I mentioned the Maple bar is the draw for me, it's light fluffy and not to much maple frosting just like the ones DP made. The cake donuts were ok and probably much better if you can get them fresh. While it can't replace the wonderful memories I had of going to DP with my dad on Saturdays as a child, it's awfully close and well worth the drive to the valley. read more
