A true North End institution! Anyone who is in the area has to stop into to Mike's and try one of their MANY dessert options. Mike's has every dessert you can dream of--cannolis, brownies, cheesecake, macaroons and the list goes on and on. The hardest part is making a decision about what you want to eat! We stopped in at 10am on a Sunday and there was no line but when we came back later that evening the line was wrapped around the block. Apparently that is very common so depending on when you stop in my determine how long you will wait. We tried a variety of cannolis--all delicious but I would recommend the espresso and hazelnut one. Oh my goodness if you have no other reason to visit this walkable city full of history, come for the Italian pastries and desserts! There's no shortage of bakeries, but Mike's Pastry should be done n your list to try. Portions are likened to belly-filling, so they f you like to have dessert at the end of a meal, leave room! The Boston cream puff- not too sweet although the chocolate glaze is heavy. Apple turnover- apple in every bite, great with tea or coffee. Walk around Boston and you're bound to see people carrying the ubiquitous "Mike's Pastry" boxes tied with a string. We had lunch nearby and our niece brought us here to get cannolis. There was a line but it moved rather quickly. There are so many flavors it can be hard to decide, and by the way, they have other items besides cannolis. There is no seating, so everything is takeout, which we did to a nearby open area. I enjoyed my amaretto cannoli but would have preferred a little bit more amaretto flavor. There wasn't a huge line at Mike's so we finally gave it a try after walking by several times. The shop is simple inside and ordering is a bit odd. One just sort of makes one's way to the counter to place their order. There is not a line or any queue system. Basically every sweet tooth fends for themselves. Mike's is always crowded and every where you look, there are people carrying Mike's boxes. Everybody told us we had try Mike's including my Yelp and IRL friend and former Bostonian Kelley B. We ordered a cannoli, a slice of Boston cream pie and the ricotta pie. Sometimes places like MIke's have trouble living up to the hype and we found that so with the cannoli. We thought the filling was very good but the shell really bland and tasteless. Maria's and Caffe Paradiso's cannolis are better in my opinion and both those places take credit cards. The Boston cream pie and the ricotta cake were very good. Service was very pleasant at Mike's. They know how to handle the masses. There are only a few small tables for limited seating. This place is EPIC. I tried 2 cannolis (Florentine and Oreo) the first time and they were the highlight of my day. My favorite flavor so far is Florentine, but Amaretto was a close second. BEST CANNOLIS!! I have been to multiple city locations for Mike's Pastry and have yet to be disappointed. They have a wide variety of desserts and no matter how crowded the service is always pretty quick. When you walk in it may not seem super organized if there are many people all over the place but they do have a system. This time I got the red velvet cupcakes . They were good but I must say my favorite is still the cannolis . They have many varieties of flavors and are all delicious. Came to Boston for the weekend and had to try out the famous Mike's Pastry. When we arrived there was no line, so we were quickly admitted and served. Just be aware that this place is cash only! Cannoli: I tried out the classic cannoli. I've had cannolis in numerous places and wanted to see how Mike's fared. There was a creamy ricotta filling inside the shell. The shell was a bit under-baked inside (it wasn't as crispy as the outside) but other than that the filling made up for it. When I come back to Boston, I have to try out other cannoli flavors. Slightly different than cannolis of Sicily, but pretty good! Red velvet whoopie pie is also great! The filling is somewhere between vanilla buttercream frosting and whipped cream. Texture is more dense than whipped cream, but flavor is of the buttercream, just lighter consistency. Delicious! read more

Holy cannoli! Don't let the hoards of people deter you. We stopped by twice while in town and loved this place. Mike's pastries are enormous. Like, one cannoli here is two normal cannoli's combined. There's a huge selection of flavors to choose from, and we tried the espresso & pistachio. The shell was nice and crispy, while the filing was smooth and creamy. We also tried the tiramisu and the napoleon, but found them a little too sweet for our liking. The shop is fairly large and quite barren. I have never loved a cannoli until I had the ones from Mike's Pastry!! They were perfectly crunchy and flaky on the outside, and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness on the inside. We got the pistachio, oreo, and florentine-- and they were all excellent. The Florentine was a bit sweeter, as the shell had more of a caramel flavor to it. But so so good! Worth the long line we waited in. We also got the boston cream pie, recommended by the cashier. However, that did not impress me-- the chocolate glaze on top tasted very artificial and the custard cream didn't have much flavor besides sweetness. read more

We were looking for an authentic experience with Boston Cream Pie. My wife did some research, and the place to go was Mike's Pastry. The staff was very friendly, although, keep in mind. When I came back, the store had a lot of people, but she promptly called me, to complete the exchange. Because of COVID, there were nowhere to eat, we had to eat outside on the sidewalk. Later we realized that a lot of people who ordered there, walked to the park where used to be a highway, where they had benches and tables. Now, to the pie itself. The pastry shop is on Hanover Street where a bunch of other restaurants are so it's really hard to find parking. Make sure to bring cash! It's around $4.50 for one cannoli and there are lots of flavors to choose from along with other pastries. The cannolis lived up to the hype! The pastry shell was crispy, the ricotta filling was fresh and the mini chocolate chips were the perfect touch. The service is a bit disorganized however. My friends and I walked in and several employees were asking us at the same time what we wanted. The store became packed really quickly because people were confused how to order and where the line was. Unlike Modern Pastry, you don't build your own cannoli at Mike's and the only decision you will have make is selecting a flavor (I counted 19 different flavors). Mike's also sell other items like ice creams, coffees, and various baked goods like lobster tails (a pastry stuffed with custard cream), cakes, brownies, cheesecakes, etc. *** Pistachio cannoli ($4.50): Wow cannoli was REALLY enormous (bigger than Modern's) and shell was also thicker! I highly suggest to split cannoli with friends or families. *** I will say this as someone who's not a Bostonian - both Mike's and Modern's are equally good and it all really depends on your personal preferences (e.g. thicker or thinner shells, crispy or less crispy shells, more options for flavors or less options, etc). During my trip to Italy, the locals ordered a cannoli for me and stared at me expectantly as I bit into it. "Do you absolutely love it?" they asked. My response? Meh.
